Went to this bar with friends for a Saturday afternoon drink. There is a single stall in the women's restroom we were not aware of. Myself and two friends walked into what was labeled as a woman's restroom at 5:30pm at a dead bar and an older male ripped the bathroom door open after us 45 seconds later. One of the women had their pants down and he screamed at us that there was a sign on the inside of the door that said "1 at a time" 2 of the 3 girls left immediately. He continued to harass all the women saying he's the owner and that he "didn't see any of our body parts". Instead of knocking on the door or giving any apology everyone around him hid their faced while he continued to talk down to us while sitting at a bar table drinking. Said we were blind, and idiots. Not sure if he was an owner, a regular, a bartender, but kicking in a door and talking down to people while they are using a restroom was completely inappropriate. We will not be back. read more

My buddy and I were visiting Columbus and walked in here after some drinking and did not find out until close to last call that this was in fact, a gay bar. I was wondering why so many dudes were asking with incredulity if I was straight. Oops! They didn't seem to take offense to two straight guys crashing the party though. Everyone was super friendly. Bartender was very cool and outgoing. Drinks were well priced and they had a really great patio area and a jukebox. Just a very chill bar. I guess all of the gay gentlemen there should have clued me into the fact that it was a gay bar but the establishment didn't otherwise seem to be advertised as such. In LA, they generally have rainbow flags and what not to denote that classification. Must have missed that rainbow on the back awning from the picture. Oh well. Had a great time, met some cool people, and was thankful that the regulars did not seem to take offense or insult to our being there. read more

Dive gay bars... it's so interesting to me how one connects with you and how others don't. It's not that something is wrong--it's kinda like that awful JCPenney slogan: When it fits, you feel it. And that's the Tremont for me. Its a great little dive; it's just not my go-to spot. They have cheap and strong drinks, fun drag shows, and scandalous strippers. What's not to love, right? The crowd is a little bit of everyone--from the older generation to young whipper snappers. It's not about being seen; it's just about having a good time. The only thing older in Columbus than The Tremont is Georgia Jackson, which explains why she hosts a show there. This is the divest of diver bars, but it is pretty laid back, easy location that is not too far from the city, but away from the hustle and bustle of the Short North. Would I make this my regular bar? No, but if I wanted to hang out with some friends occasionally and not deal with those crazy homos this would be a good contender as to where to go. If Cher could "turn back time" at the Tremont I think she would tell them to not have put the faux wood paneling up on the walls since it is apparent they have kept the same decor for the 100 years that they have been opened. A little Martha Stewart paint is $30 a gallon at HOME DEPOT.... spruce this place up and it could be 10x better!!!!! But all in all, the staff is friendly and the "talent" is amusing: although the stage is placed at a strange location and is not really easy for the patrons to go to the restrooms or patio (one of the highlights of this place is the large, partially covered, patio). So all in all this isn't going to be the place for everyone, but I think that everyone should give this place a chance at least once, you might be surprised with what Columbus has to offer as far as gay nightlife other than in the Short North. read more

I was in town Friday/Saturday evening for a convention for work and stayed at the nearby Comfort Inn. Friday evening my coworker, who previously has visited Le Tremont, and I stopped in for a few drinks. I was actually surprised to find a neighborhood gay bar right near the German Village. I will admit I am not familiar with Columbus, but generally understand that the more mainstream gay nightlife is in the Short North or its vicinity. I found Tremont to be quite comfortable. Yes, the clientele is generally older but with that is a lack of pretension and generally a friendlier atmosphere. The bar, I was told, is the oldest gay bar in Columbus. I don't know if that really is true, but I would believe it. The physical bar was old and had nice details in the wood. There was also a pool table, dart board and Internet juke box. In the back there was a nice sized patio with covered seating, a trellis, and speakers playing the same music as inside. Signs inside announced karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There is also no draught beer. If I find myself in Columbus again and in the area I know I could walk in to Tremont and feel welcome and not judged. I will not say that it's without its drama, but it's more amusing when it's older guys instead of younger twink newbies dealing with drunk boyfriends, ignored phone calls, and life's other dilemmas. Drinks were also reasonably priced and pretty strong at that. I also played Little Boots' "Remedy" on the juke box and it was well received so that's a plus too. Nothing is more charming than a die-hard Tim McGraw fan straight from the concert that evening proudly showing off his new belt buckle dancing to Euro-dance--it warms my heart. read more

This is a good dive bar to go to for a round of drinks before going out to dinner in The Short North or German Village. The clientele is diverse in age but everyone intermingles well. The staff is friendly and pour some heavy handed drinks for a good price. They have a nice outdoor patio. I have visited Tremont Lounge 3 times now, over the past year, and I would definitely consider this to be my "home" should I relocate back to Columbus as I plan to do. This is one friendly place, nicely laid out, with an outside patio area that is nice, and comfy. The five stars I rate it is due to the friendly staff and clientele, which I find very refreshing.
