We really wanted to like it because we need a good Thai in the area but unfortunately our experience tonight was disappointing. We ordered beef and chicken satay and chicken wings with the house sauce as well as a papaya salad and a Penang curry. The satays were just OK. Not a lot of flavor at all. The wings were good but there could have been more for the price. The papaya salad was not good. There was a funky quality to it that just did not sit well. The curry was the best thing overall and if we decide to try again we'll focus on the curries and the noodle dishes. read more

I decided to try this new Thai/Lao place today and was not satisfied with the dishes I ordered. Mok Pa was very watery. Lack of dill flavor. Kappoon was a little on the sweet side. Roti came with a very small dipping curry sauce. Roasted egg plant and fish did not even tasted like what I can make. The stuffed chicken was the only thing I liked but price for two is outrageous. $15. I say go to Vientiane cafe if you want authentic Laotian food and price for an entree is reasonable. read more

We stopped by yesterday for an impromptu lunch and was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted @ the door and seated near the window. We had the Party Wings, Beef & Broccoli, and Chicken Pad Thai. SL Kitchen complemented us with Thai Tea and Roti with Curry Sauce ( thin pancake that was very light & delightful). The food was tasty and flavorful as we like to travel globally through our tastebuds currently during CoVid19, no passport needed. Everything came out piping hot and delicious. We discovered this gem a few months back and have been here multiple times. Service and food is incredible and we are always treated well. This has got to be one of the worst Thai food we had. It was not authentic at all. We got a fried chicken fried rice and the rice was super dry and hard. I am pretty sure it was old rice. The tum yum soup had way too much onions and what looked like fried garlic pieces. It's as if the chef decided to toss what's leftover in the kitchen because it was the end of the night. I love this place. My go to is the pad Thai. I actually have only tried one other dish (the pineapple fried rice) which was also good but I just keep going back to the pad Thai. It's so yummy. I did a pick up order. One pad Thai and mango chicken. The food was very average. Nothing exceptional and dry food. But what really turned me off was their customer service. I called and placed my order. Since I don't eat pork, I wanted to confirm that I food I ordered had no pork or pork products. So I asked them that. The lady answering my call didn't understand me for 10 mins then handed the call the to someone else. The man was condescending and rude. Then I could hear the lady laughing in the background. I got: -beef pad Se-ew (the noodles are so thick and yummy) -sampler (Laos sausage, papaya salad, money bags, egg rolls) -roti with curry (my son loved it) -nam Kao (so crunchy and delicious!) -Thai tea (great tea taste and not too sweet) Service is great. Parking is good. However this is a NEW place so they are still working on service and preparation. I was craving for Thai food yesterday and found SL Kitchen with 4.5 stars in San Leandro. My husband drive 30 minutes there to satisfy my craving and really looking forward to some good Thai food. The restaurant was not busy and we got seated right away. The ambiance was pretty zen, the waitresses were very courteous and helpful. Service was good and quick. So far everything is 4.5 stars. We ordered Tom Yum soup with shrimps, Angel stuffed chicken wings, satay chicken, yellow curry chicken, basil egg plant with beef and crab fried rice. Everything came quite quickly. The most disappointed part is they don't taste like authentic Thai food. The Tom Yum soup and yellow curry were very sweet. The crab fried rice and the basil egg plant were bland no where closed to Thai food at all. If you are looking for a true authentic Thai restaurant. Skip this one. Is not worth the money. read more

At last, a local-within-easy-walking-distance from home restaurant that we enjoy! We live in the surrounding neighborhood that has seen restaurants come and go along MacArthur Boulevard. There hasn't been a nearby dine-in restaurant that we have enjoyed along this commercial row since Creasian closed many years ago. SL Kitchen is perfect for when we simply don't feel like cooking, want to dine-in or take out, and it isn't a complete budget buster. We tried SL Kitchen during their soft opening a few months ago and weren't impressed. Two weeks ago, we decided to try it again and are glad we did. Since then, we have returned twice and enjoyed Pad Thai, Lad Nah, fish filet, spring rolls, green curry, money bags, rice and a sticky rice with mango dish for dessert. Everything was just fine for the location, price point, atmosphere and casual dining. A San Leandro couple own this business -- another plus. At the end of our meal today, the husband came to our table to thank us for coming in again. We learned that he worked for Creasian when it was our around-the-corner favorite restaurant. If you are a "local" who has not wanted to try SL Kitchen because the location has had too many "meh" restaurants, SL Kitchen is well worth a try. We are pretty lucky because our neighborhood now has a burger joint that our son-in-law and grandson love. We also have a more upscale eatery within a mile for splurge nights and a celebratory drink. Hope this place is here for years to come. MacArthur Boulevard doesn't offer an entertainment center and there aren't large office centers with many employees nearby. So, SL Kitchen lacks a ready made clientele. There is abundant on street parking, but the adjacent lot is tiny. The large back dining area could be a banquet room for a small crowd. They don't yet offer beer and wine but intend to do so. As mentioned, the food earns high marks for the price point, atmosphere and casual dining setting. read more

I spent six weeks in Thailand a few years back and have not found anything comparable to authentic Thai food until I tried SL kitchen. We've ordered from them several times and have never been disappointed. I'm an adventurous eater and would highly recommend trying things on their menu that challenge your palette! Regarding takeout, I wouldn't suggest ordering through a delivery service as the food looses a lot of its luster sitting in warm containers. Had the drunken noodles and you get to pick your choice of protein . We chose beef and also had a side of white rice . I shared this with one other person and it honestly was the perfect portion were you weren't left hungry nor to full it was just right.
