My husband and I live fairly close to this restaurant, and tonight we decided to visit them again. Food was very good, thoughtfully prepared and presented. We ordered angel wings, red curry with chicken, and pork pad se ew. Really good. With one glass of white wine and some hot tea, our bill came to $85, including tip. We have enough left over for another meal tomorrow so we really could have ordered a little less still been quite satisfied. So many restaurants come and go. Finally got to check out SL Kitchen in San Leandro. Had the tum yum glass noodle soup and basil eggplant, both with beef, and a side of sticky rice. Incredibly delicious! Sorry it took me so long to try it, definitely will be back. Got there just after the lunch rush around 2:00. Service was equally good. Highly recommend! P.S. Eggplant was cooked perfectly. I live in the area and I'm very happy to have such a delicious Thai restaurant so close by! I have lunch here often and it never disappoints. Although it's spacious and clean, I sometimes prefer to order for pick up and the service for that is excellent. The food tastes great and the portions are reasonable. Ahhhhh the food here was excellent! Incredibly delicious and all the flavors you could imagine. We had the Roti, Tom yah soup, and the shrimp pad Thai. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice. We stopped here for lunch, and were very, very pleasantly surprised at how good the service the food & atmosphere are. I had the best red pork curry I've had since I was in Thailand. My husband had the best yellow curry with chicken that he said he's ever had in his life. One of the owners came over and chatted with us while. It was very pleasant to talk with him. Let's start off with the ambiance here. For starters, it's located in the corner of a small little strip retail area with somewhat limited parking. I think there was a parking lot, but I could be wrong as it may belong to residential only. The parking was a little weird for me, but it's okay I found parking. Walking into the restaurant you meet the cashier right away. The entrance way is really small. Especially if you are wanting to distance yourself, the most amount of people in that little section is about.. 2-3 people before you're kinda in everyone's space. If you don't care, it won't matter. The seating area is a big space though, you do have enough space to be comfortable. I ordered to go at 12PM. I didn't get my food until 30-40 minutes later. I came before a party of two who sat there, and got their food first. I guess I understand the "priority" of things, but I was rather unhappy with the wait as it is definitely not first in, first out. To be a little more understanding, they have also DoorDash and GrubHub deliveries as well, but to be honest their turn around timeframe was not satisfying for me. The customer service was amazing, and it makes me sad that I wasn't happy with the turnaround. The ladies there were so nice and polite. The food was pretty good, for the most part. 1. Nam Khao - The Nam was really crispy, but its a little more on the sour side. And the veggies were somewhat mixed in with the nam. I prefer veggies on the side so that I can get a bit of everything to top off my lettuce. I'd give this about 3/5. 2. Beef Laap Salad with Tripe - Made with ground beef and tripe. Seasoning was a little on the lessor side of flavors that I'm used to. It had a pinch of bitterness. Overall it's decent. I'd give it a 3/5. 3. Pad See Ew - This was probably my favorite of what I've ordered. It had a little bit of sweetness to it, but I added some dry peppers, and it wasn't too shabby. I'd totally go back for the Pad See Ew. 5/5! Overall, I find it to be decent. But it doesn't completely wow me. I think in the event I can't make it to Oakland, this is a nice alternative. read more

We ordered for delivery and we were quite pleased with the speed of service and the accuracy of our order. The Thai food was nicely prepared and the veggies were not over cooked. The delivery guy didn't stay long enough to see if we received everything we ordered but luckily we didn't have any issues. The spring rolls were veggie and we enjoyed them too. We were pretty excited to see a new Thai spot opening up in SL and waited a few months for them to work out their new opening kinks before trying them. We ordered the pad se ew, calamari (the lady kept warning me over the phone that it wasn't normal fried calamari and was "Thai style"), basil eggplant, yum nuer, and kasoy. First off, the pricing is pretty high for the standard dish, but if the food was great, it wouldn't be a big deal. The "Thai style" calamari meant that they were pieces of calamari steaks and fried broccoli. My friend that ordered it said it was definitely not Thai style. It was fried pretty well, but it consisted of mostly broccoli and some calamari pieces only. For $15, not worth it. Everything else had pretty good flavors; the yum nuer's beef pieces were over cooked, but that's not uncommon at Asian restaurants; the pad se ew had great seasoning and flavors, but the noodles were over cooked and broke apart in chunks/lumps. If prices were lower, we'd probably order from them in a pinch because they're close by, but with the going prices, we'll stick to our usual spots in Oakland and San Lorenzo/Hayward. read more

This Thai place has just about everything. I got the crab curry, (which you have to call ahead for) and the Tod Pla are extremely fresh. You can't go wrong with any dish from SL Kitchen, the quality is impeccable and the flavor is absolutely amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Was passing through SL and happened upon this unique Thai restaurant. So glad we did! We tried classic appetizers like the stuffed angel wings which were crispy, moist, and a great size. Also tried the money bag appetizer which was super tasty - crispy and generously filled. We also tried a couple of special order dishes on recommendation from the owner. They were the roasted lamb chops and the crab curry. The lamb chops were the most tender I've ever had. You could bite through without a knife. The crab curry was nicely seasoned, slightly spicy, and went really well with rice. The owner mentioned because these were special menu items, that we should call ahead if we wanted to get them again next time. Definitely recommend trying them. Inside was clean and spacious. Called for reservations for 3 said we didn't need any so we arrived at about 6pm, no waiting the server showed us to our table and menus came right after. We quickly got glasses of water and we ordered some hot tea (kept coming all evening) we love tea. Our server took our order within minutes of seating, 4 dishes of their signature appetizers, salad Pad Thai w Chicken, Cat Fish, Deep Fried Pompeno (yummy sauce), Kapoun Noodle Soup and lastly Mango Sticky Rice dessert. We have been to many Thai restaurants but this was the first time for Thai/Laos food... food came hot and nothing was too spicy (everything mild). Finally, a great Thai spot near San Lorenzo. I have been on the look out for a great tasting and affordable Thai restaurant for a while. I ordered from here for Mother's Day. We had pad thai, pad kee mao, pad se ew, basil eggplant, green bean chicken, mango sticky rice, and fresh spring rolls. All of the food was really good. The peanut sauce for the fresh spring rolls wasn't the best but it wasn't too bad. I need the peanut sauce for spring rolls so I probably won't order those again. One thing to note is that medium is actually pretty spicy. I am pretty average with spice and my mouth was on fire immediately the moment the noodle touched my tongue but it was still great! Next time some of us who ordered medium will order mild though ahha. By the time I remembered to take photos it was too late, but I will be back so I will add photos then. I want to try the shrimp tempura, one off the curries, and pad thai (I didn't get a chance to taste it). read more

Eh. More like 2 1/2 stars but I'll round up because they're new. So this place was recommended by a friend so we decided to give it a shot. We knew that the previous restaurants in this same spot were not that great but we hoped that this one would be different. This is what we ordered for takeout: Thai fried rice Tempura shrimp Pad Thai We're pretty sure we ordered the fried chicken and fried rice combo but for some reason only the Thai fried rice was made. Anyway, the fried rice was probably the best item but it wasn't anything special. The pad thai was more or less mediocre at best and the tempura shrimp was a joke. In no way shape or form did it resemble shrimp tempura - it was heavily breaded regular old shrimp and they added a bunch of fried broccoli for some reason. I'd even say that most of the dish was fried broccoli. So we'll give it another chance but not anytime soon. read more

Soft opening experience this evening. Excellent food. We opted to dine in as there were only 1 other couple in there. Savoring our meal which, unfortunately, was needlessly & abruptly put to a quick end as soon as they sat a family of 4 RIGHT BEHIND US!! I had my wife help me move our table a tad farther away but even with that, there was less than 3 feet away from the family. We opted to have our meals packed to go pronto. Sentiments were shared with the manager as well as the owner who seemed appreciative of the feed back. While I can understand they are still finding their groove, but with the variant running rampant?!?!?! There was SEVERAL other tables available for them to seat the family AND practice safe social distancing. This was a true head scratcher. 1st time here on Friday night. We ordered Kao Poon noodle soup and chicken laab. Both were very tasty, bold flavors and authentic. We ordered mild and perfect for us. Restaurant has clam, intimate ambiance. Wait staff were very attentive, helpful. Portion size was more than sufficient for 2 and filled us up. Prices were a bit more than I'd prefer, but I think prices for everything have gone up due to the Pandemic. Met the owner who was very friendly and informed us that it opened about 3 months ago. I came with my family today and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by the service. From the beginning they've been nice and super fast (granted we were the only ones at the restaurant at the time). I'm not from the area we were just here for medical reasons and my family enjoyed the food. A tad bit pricey from what I'm normally used too but the service made up for it. I would say my only complaint (which isn't really a complaint) is no fountain drinks. They sell sodas by the can which is definitely very different from the normal Thai places I go to.
