I am so sad to write this but must for my fellow people who love Thai and Lao food. I will not be ordering from this place again. Having eaten both cuisines my entire life as a Southeast Asian and having made both myself growing up. Service was good and staff were friendly. 1) pad Thai: ok, but didn't have enough tamarind flavor. Generous amount of chicken and tofu. This saved our meal. 2) Laos style papaya salad: worst I've ever had. The papaya is shredded wrong, was missing an ingredient, and I've never had it served with purple cabbage. A must skip. Ok - hear me out. This place is so strange because it's more of a grab and go place INSIDE of Castro Village Bowl. But we got the pad see ew and the fried rice here with a drink (total $44) because we were starving and didn't have time for dinner before meeting up with a friend group to bowl - and I was pleasantly surprised at the value of what we got?? Pros: - The 2 dishes we ordered, came with HUGE portions - I was so surprised because I expected it to be overpriced (since it's inside the bowling alley and the place also services bar food/fried food fitting for a bowling alley) - Tasted pretty good honestly! not bad. it didn't hold up well later in the night or the next day, but not terrible. - decent amount of veggies and meat in the pad see ew! - Pretty quick service, food came out in less than 10 mins, and they gave us a buzzer so we knew when the food was ready Cons: - obviously service can be a bit hit or miss, but it's a bowling alley, so set your expectations accordingly Overall, I wouldn't come out of my way to eat here - but it is refreshing to not only be stuck eating fried bar food at the alley read more

I had seen reviews and they made me curious about Thai & Lao food served in this bowling alley. They also serve traditional bowling alley fare as well. But for the adventure I need to find out for myself for all the hype. I narrowed down my order to Pad See Ew Chicken and Thai Ice Tea. I made it to a "to go" order. It was packaged well. Having it a home was probably choice than the bowling alley for obvious reasons. I wanted to be overwhelmed by the food but found it to less than I can get at local Thai restaurants in town. I guess I had high hopes. The Thai ice tea is what you ordinarily expect. Also, the dish prices are slightly higher than those in town. Ok, went into the bowling alley for the first time in years for a friend's birthday last week. Was super hungry, so we grabbed a few things from this spot. It's grab and go or eat at the tables near the lanes. I got a corn dog and my friend got the red curry. Both came out fairly quickly. I expected the corn dog to be good, and it was really good. My friend's red curry was exceptional. Like, good for a Thai restaurant I would actually seek out, good. I actually went again today to try something else, but didn't realize they don't open until 3. That said, with this knowledge, I'll be back again another day for sure. read more

I didn't have time for lunch so I ended up picking up some food here before meeting up with a friend to bowl. Variety is nice, you got your classic bowling alley food and snacks along with their Thai and Lao offerings. I ended up getting a hot dog and the fried rice. For the speed the quality is nice and you can eat at the spectator row behind the lanes. The prices aren't great, they don't allow outside food so if you're hungry you'll have to pay a small premium. $9 for a hot dog and $18 for the fried rice, at least the canned soda was $1.50. I'm not expecting Costco prices but still a punch to the wallet. Also they will charge you an extra fee for credit card usage, what's more annoying is there's a sign for $5 minimum but they still tack on an extra fee. Overall it's fine in a pinch and the quality is decent for the location. Not loving the prices and CC fees I'll try to eat before getting here next time. read more

My family and I came by not really expecting much from this place. We were excited to try some of the lao dishes we grew up with and were pleasantly surprised with quick service, good food, and a fun environment. We ordered the angel wings, beef jerky, lao sausage, papaya, and khao piek. All were made fresh and quick. I was very skeptical about getting Thai food from a bowling alley, but the menu looked good and I was shopping in the area so I tried for the first time today. Ordered the eggplant with chicken. I ordered without asking the price so was a bit surprised at how expensive the dish was(almost $20) but gotta say the taste was pretty good. They said 15/20 mins wait but it came out in 10. I definitely recommend checking this spot out. These for places I love to find. I order the papaya salad Laos style, kapiet and shrimp rolls all were delicious. Shrimp rolls were seasoned with lemon grass so it was tasty surprise. I'm definitely going back any chance I get. No pics of shrimp rolls because we ate them in the car! Just went by the other day. Thai/Lao food was still great! Delish nam khao (crispy rice "salad", but actually DIY lettuce wraps). Super bummed to find out they no longer serve laarb, but the Lao sausage was really good and so was the red curry! I did try the curries in the past a long while back and was disappointed by the lack of flavor, but it was great this time, very flavorful! The curry is a lot more liquid than the Thai curries I'm used to, but maybe thin curry is a Lao thing? Also the best thing I found out is they finally have a direct line for ordering take out 510-314-0440! No more having to ask the bowling alley employees to trasnsfer me to the cafe, which was a huge pain, yay! read more

Hit n miss. Not ur normal Asian food cafe. It's in the bowling alley. There's a lot of stuff on the menu. Asian and American fast food. I had the chicken fried rice. Was good with a lot of white chicken meat. Good flavor. The fried rice salad was pretty tasty. I would get that again. Now the beef noodles... Worst beef meat EVER.. literally!!!I thought I got a piece of leather. Could not chew it. I push all the meat to the side and only ate the noodles. 2 out of three. Hard pass. This place is legit. We all know the typical bowling alley food like chicken strips, French fries or some other deep fried fast food knockoff... BUT What other bowling alley serves non-bowling alley type food such as rice plates, wonton soup, paid Thai and other Asian dishes, etc. Insane and blew my mind. So many options and choices and they cook it right there in their tiny little bowling alley kitchen. When you look at the bowling alley from the outside, there's an Asian restaurant that kind of connects to it so I wonder if it's the same owners that run that restaurant and they also run the bowling alley kitchen. Either way, I'm glad that they're there. It helps spice up the mundane typical bowling alley food selection to be able to choose something else. read more

I was SUPER skeptical about buying thai food from inside a bowling alley. Just thinking about it, I can't believe that I actually did it! However, I AM SUPER HAPPY I DECIDED TO EAT HERE!! My boyfriend and I ordered three things. Yellow Curry. I love yellow curry and I asked for it to be spicy. They did not fail me. I was a bit worried since one of the other reviews said it was really soupy. I agree. It was definitely more runny than I would have wanted, but it was so flavorful and it came with rice. This has become one of my favorite places to eat yellow curry! Four stars, since it is a bit liquid-y, but do not worry, it's packed with flavor. Would recommend. Thai fried rice. I appreciate a delicious thai fried rice. There are a few things in there that I was not expecting (like edamame beans?) but it was delicious. Would recommend. Fries with cheese. First of all, loved the fries. Crinkle cut, crispy, and delicious. The cheese is the melty cheese that gets put on these sorts of things. This turned out to be more like cheese with fries. There was so much cheese (which I really appreciated) that I had leftover cheese. So, I went to the vending machine and bought some chips and ate it with the leftover cheese. This was not a good combination with the thai food, but what ever. I still liked it. Would recommend. If I go bowling again, I'll probably eat here again. :} read more

Not sure what the one stars were about, but "not legit" is far from what this place is. One of the rare authentic Thai places around. Had a craving for Thai food and heard from a friend awhile back that there was a really good Thai place inside the Castro Valley bowling alley. Looked this place up and the two bad reviews had me second guessing whether I should try it but I'm glad I did. Everything we ordered was delicious. Ordered the food and began bowling one game by myself and the food was already done by the 6th frame. The customer service was great but the food was even better. Lucky Lane 33 Cafe is highly recommended if you want authentic thai/lao food! Wanted Thai/lao food, but didn't know where to go so decided to yelp. After browsing through, came upon Lucky Lane 33 Cafe which is inside the Castro Valley Bowling Alley. A few months ago a few coworkers told me about Lucky Lane 33 Cafe, but forgot about it until earlier today. Decided to give it a try even after the few bad reviews. Not sure why they gave 1 star and said the food isn't authentic, but it is really authentic coming from someone that has it's fair share of authentic thai/lao food. Customer service was great! Food was great and on the plus side, the food came out quick. We ordered 4 dishes and the total was a little under $40. Price is right for the authentic thai/lao food. We ordered the chicken pad thai, som tum (lao style), chicken pad ke mao and kapiak. The kapiak was delicious with the chicken broth; the chicken pad thai was delicious with just the right amount of flavor, and the sum tom was great! read more

I really enjoy that they have this spot inside Castro Village Bowl. You would never expect this type of food there. This food is Thai and Laotian. They have an excellent menu and the prices here aren't that bad. They even offer takeout so you can eat there food without having to bowl. What's nice is that they also have standard bowling alley American food in addition to the Asian food for those who don't favor it. They even cater for the parties that are held at this bowling alley. Their Thai iced tea is really good here! There's no boba in it, but it actually tastes authentic and isn't too sweet. The hours say the place closes at 9, but I went on a Sunday and it didn't close until 10 so I think the hours vary per night. All their food seems authentic as it's actually ran by an Asian owner. They even have lunch specials. I definitely want to try out their different dishes. read more

The cafe is inside a bowling alley, so it is not in a traditional restaurant setting. However, the menu prices are still on the expensive side considering its dining environment. The Pad Thai we ordered was bland and tasted not authentic . Angel wings were also oily and over sauced. Dishes are served on paper plates with plastic forks. It's confusing on the name of this place as there is a separate review page for DC Snack Bar (note: there is only one snack bar inside the bowling alley, but two separate Yelp listing pages). The following is also posted on the DC Snack Bar page from last month when I was there. I ordered the Pad See Eew (#17) on a Sunday night, bowling was empty and I just ordered take out so this review is specific to the snack bar. I was the only customer that I could see for food tonight and service was quick and I took my order home to eat. Unfortunately I immediately noticed the odor in my car which was not very appetizing, it just did not smell right and I should have turned around and taken it back then and there as the food was just not edible. Something about the beef was off, I'm just guessing that it was just plain old...I tried pushing the beef to the side and eating just the noodles and broccolli that came with it but the awful taste from the beef had permeated the other items, even slathering soy sauce and sriracha was not enough to cover up the bad meat. Not recommended when it all goes in the trash and not my stomach. I won't be throwing my money away here at this place again. read more

Thai food and bowling? Why not. My kids get cheese fries and I can have nam kao. It's a win win situation. Even on days when I'm not bowling I stop by for the nam kao. This is the biggest Rip Off for Thai food in town! You can barely hear, let alone speak to anyone. You are served on a paper plate with plastic utensils that are flimsy and break.
