    Spicy chicken
    Norma L.

Driven by this place on my way to work, so decided to stop in for lunch. It wasn't busy. I order spicy chicken and a san leandro roll. The spicy chicken came out with a plethera of rice under it and nothing else, not even two sprigs of brocoli for color. However it did come with Miso soup and the traditional iceberg salad with the Kewpie/sesame seed dressing. The San Leandro roll was good and was topped with crawfish. If you a need to get a quick fix of japanese food, this is ok, but if you really want traditional Japanese probably try another place.

So how do I start this review ? Well, we arrived and no lines or customers just us on mother's day We were craving for Japanese food and our normal go to place closer to home was busy so I remembered years ago best sashimi place called Rock n Roll sushi and this is why I have to make this review to give them honest feedback and so we can return and get a better experience. I suddenly realized that my friends were correct, it has been awhile since the old owner ran the place and we were surprised that no one was dining at 7pm just us. New owners confirmed indeed. Here we go and sorry if it is a little longer than usual reviews. Have to be honest and help them improve. ..... We were seated. It was just us no one else was there. Finally took our order and we asked for tea. Tea was served luke warm. Replaced 5 minutes later and was good :) Server came back and dropped the dish we will use and OMG ! She placed it on our table stacked as shown on the photo. Dish was cracked and sharp on the edges old and not appealing at all and the small dipping sauce dish were the blue ones for Chinese food lol. The ginger was dry and wasabi was so so. While waiting and tasting the 3 dishes we ordered, the other server was killing small flying bugs and flies with an electronic fly swatter and jt was making zapping noises. Then she was sweeping the floor with the broom a d dust pan leaning on the entryway of the sushi bar and out in the open. Food was terrible and hope they improve it for other customers. Read along. Food arrived and the sushi was placed on an old wooden dish and by the looks it was not appealing and hope no bacteria in it. We will find out in a few hours but so far we are okay :).. The sushi rice is not Japanese way at all please improve. Try it and see. The seaweed they use on the unagi hand roll and california roll was chewy like rubber and wont cut no snap to it while chewing etc. . (How do you mess up these two basic dishes) The agedashi tofu was okay so kudos but ! Yes, but again. It tasted more Chinese than Japanese including the sauce. Hope this helps the owner with an honest review and help improve moving forward. 2 stars due to agedashi tofu was good and plenty of parking spaces.

Haven't been here in years and honestly would come back again for dinner! My boyfriend and I were really satisfied with the services we got and were surprised about how generous the servings were. I got the 3 piece venti box with teriyaki chicken, mixed tempura, and Alaska roll. My boyfriend got the ton katsu entree which has more than enough to katsu for him and I. One thing I would add would be that it may not be the best sushi spot I've had but it hits the spot. Dinning inside is best for smaller parties 2-4 people. They do not have to much space for big groups

My first time here and it's ok. The service was great but the food was so and so. I had better. The chirashi sashimi was too thick and not fresh enough for me. The bento plate was huge though., money worth paying for. The vibe was ok. I might try it again.

Their place is clean and customer service is very welcoming... the food doesn't disappoint me at all very fresh and flavorful I would definitely recommend

Salmon teriyaki and shrimp tempura roll bento
    Billy L.

Stopped here during lunch for the first time. What attracted me to this place is their prices. Bento boxes start at $13 for two items and ramen starts at $12. That is cheap compared to other Sushi/ramen places in San Leandro/San Lorenzo. I got the two item bento which included miso soup, salad, veggie egg roll and choice of entrees. Keep in mind some entrees charge an additional $1. I picked the teriyaki salmon and shrimp tempura roll. My salmon was delicious. The teriyaki sauce is on the sweeter side. The shrimp tempura roll had cucumber inside and unagi sauce on top. I was not a fan of the unagi sauce. It tasted different from other unagi sauce I've had. The egg roll was not good. It taste like those cheap cabbage filled egg rolls you get at the fast food Chinese places. I would definitely come here again try other items or their ramen.

Rock and Roll sushi is the closest Japanese restaurant within walking distance for me. Their 6-piece oyster set is quite good for the price and always fresh. However the head of their Ama-Ebi Nigiri could be crisper. My all-tike favorite is the Hamachi Carpaccio, but for those who aren't into spice I recommend removing the jalapeños. Their green tea tempura ice cream is refreshing and just as I requested, with a light batter. I do wish they had more flavors to choose from, though. On the downside, I asked for a Chardonnay but suspect I was served plum wine instead, or perhaps they needed to open a new bottle. The owners son was very attentive and got all the orders right. Overall, I appreciate the friendly service

    Ramen

This place has very generous portions and affordable prices. The main downsides are that the flavor isn't there and the fish isn't the best. We got the 3 combo with Teriyaki chicken, salmon, and gyoza, ramen, the 14 piece sashimi, lion king, tammys treat, and 1 more roll. The bento was MASSIVE! The size of 2-3 regular bentos! It's a steal! The ramen bowl was also very large and filling. Service was very quick and food came out quick.

Take out bento box is raw.

Absolute bull. I already have stomach issues, and ate half my meal only to find out the chicken is raw. I used to love this place but since the ownership changed 2 year ago, this place has gone to shit. Congrats, you just lost a regular customer. Not coming anymore.

Do they cook gyoza in the same oil, or the same pans, as shrimp / crab / lobster? I am allergic to those things and I got a horribly painful all-night stomach ache after eating their gyoza yesterday. Still hurts 20 hours later.

Although I don't have shellfish allergies I feel certain that you could "call" them to explain your allergies and they would be sure to prepare your gyoza separately.

Do you answer the phone anymore?? I called for 10 minutes straight and it just kept ringing. I couldn't order online because it failed to process the order with a different card 3 times within 10 minutes and nothing.

there's only 1 phone line. if the line keeps ringing, it means we're on the line with another customer. if you hang up and call again, it might push you back in line. So i recommend just letting it ring until someone answers (sorry if some customers… Read more

They have a bunch of outdoor tables and chairs under shade in the parking lot, and plenty of free parking in the lot. The fries were crispy with light seasoning on them, and the sandwich is huge. I'm not a fan of the red cabbage, but the amount and the crispiness of falafel was great. Hummus is off to one side inside the sandwich. There was a small cup of yogurt sauce under the sandwich. They gave me two ketchup packets and also a compostable bag for carrying the food. Food was really good, so I recommend giving it a try.

So they do get really busy and it might be better to call in your order if you're in a rush since the ordered do seem to take over 10-15 minutes to complete. I ordered the falafel pita and my partner ordered the chicharron sandwich, which the owner said was his favorite sandwich. My partner said that the sandwich was one of the best he's had in a while and the spicy mayo it came with was pretty delicious. My falafel sandwich on the other hand was good, but I did get tired of eating it because there was not as much variety in the falafel pita as I would have liked. At times I felt like the falafel was dry, and since the sauce was in a cup, I had to spread it and wasn't super satisfied with it. The fries were fresh but the portions were a little small. We also ordered a bowl of lentil soup and a green smoothie. The green smoothie tasted as if there was no sugar added and had a lot of ginger in it, so it had heat to it. The lentil soup was tasty and came with bread, albeit a little lukewarm when we got it. Overall, we were happy with our dishes and want to come back to try the other dishes. There is only outdoor seating, but there are about 8 tables to sit at outdoors. The owner seems very gracious and proud of his establishment. He says that everything is made freshly there from scratch, including the sauces. They do get their bread from a local bakery. There is clearly a lot of care put in the food, and it is a great establishing. We will be adding it to our list of lunch spots.

To that I simply have to give my respects and give them a shout out. Very calm and relaxing space. Many regulars walking in picking up take-out food. There's a very kind and soft paced table service here that just reminds me of cute and quaint bistros/cafes from the days gone by. Actual dialogue between servers and patrons, questions answered, smiles passed along. A huge gap from QR code ordering and avoidance of interaction that is trying to be normalized from here on out. We ordered a couple of bottled beers, nothing craft brewed-like, just ordinary Euro/Mexican selections. I'm not as rigid as I once was, so just a good clean lager with a meal and some water is very welcoming to me. They brought nice beer glassware and asked if we wanted it poured into a glass. Sure ain't gonna turn that down, especially since it was already there. It did fit with the nice silverware, cloth napkin and candlelit table. Yet nothing was stuffy and formal, just casual locals out for a good time. Kofta Wrap ($19/4*) This wasn't mine but I did taste a piece of the kofta kebab. Theirs is a beef/lamb mix and is well mixed, almost like a firm meatloaf texture, versus a grilled burger texture. It was a good basic kofta, spiced moderately so not strong but also not bland. The inside also has a lot of lettuce, onions and cucs with a tangy yogurt sauce. I did taste a big hint of mint in my bite which I'm assuming are big hits of herbs with the salad and not the kofta itself. And it was wrapped nice and tight with even distribution so every bite got every element. I look for that in every wrap whether a burrito, med wrap and even stuffed pitas. Beef Shawarma Plate ($20/4.5*) Pretty heavily spiced, where you can feel the texture of the warming spice paste in each bite. A little strong but at least it gave you ride to another culture. Properly shaved pieces where the meat texture was still there and nothing like processed gyro meat. Served with yellow rice and an awesome salad with a tangy dressing. I especially loved the tangy green chutney that was so vibrantly herbaceous, a mint and cilantro punch that brightened the spice ladened shawarma. And I also loved the grilled tomatoes and onion garnish on top of the shawarma, just gave it a nice chef's touch. Mansaf ($25/5*) I have never tried this but as soon as I saw it, I had to try it. I was told it was probably Jordan's most famous dish. Super tender cubes of lamb, with a touch of fat on some pieces which I love. Totally swimming in this glorious creamy sauce made of dried yogurt and tumeric. The sauce was mild (spice wise), quite tangy with a noticeable milky flavor. Served again with rice but this time topped with toasted almond slivers, which added a nice texural contrast. I was also told that this was usually made with bone-in lamb, but think they did it this way to make it more restaurant friendly, maybe even American friendly. But I was just imagining if this would have been a bone-in lamb shank, I would have loved it even more. Great dish! Still have to try their extensive kabob offerings and an assortment of their mezzes whether falafels, hummus and other dips. Lots of work yet still ahead of me, but I just know that this is gonna be a smooth and fun ride. Bet.
