Not sure if I just ordered the wrong item, but based off of the reviews I was very excited to try this spot out. They have a pretty good menu from sushi, rice bowls, and ramen and the prices are actually not bad for the Bay Area. The service was pretty quick, but I can see how it can get crowded very quickly based on the small space. The person who took my order was also making the rolls. I ordered the Samurai roll and like others have mentioned the sushi sizes are great, but the roll had NO flavor. I was very disappointed and sadly will not return.

I got takeout from Joy Sushi. It was ready pretty quick, which was very nice. It's a smaller location right next to the Target. Pricing was very competitive and slightly lower than many other places I've seen. The salmon on the Lion King was a bit firmer than I'm used to but it was still tasty.

I was looking for somewhere to grab a snack and came across Joy Sushi while shopping at Target. Decided to grab their Egg & Spam Musubi which was about $8 for two pieces. At first, I thought the service was slow and wondered what was taking them so long - I didn't realize that they were making it fresh! It was delicious and 100% worth the wait. Not sure what sauce it comes with but it's perfect for dipping and not overly sweet. I personally got take out but they also have a dine in section with a good amount of seating available. :)

I ordered spider roll, and the lobster baked, the rice kept falling apart, it wasn't sticking to the sushi. I never tried this kind of sushi where everything falls apart. I can't pick it up without everything falling off. Not happy, very disappointed with my purchase. I definitely don't recommend this place for sushi.

Okay so first I want to thank joy sushi for trying to accommodate my medical inability to eat rice. They made my rolls without it for me, and I know it can be difficult to do. But they tried! And they were really sweet about it. Their service was some of the best I have had when it comes to my food restrictions. So it makes me sad when I say, the food looked bimb, but just was not good. My Lambada roll was so salty (the crab was salty) so I wasn't able to dip it soy sauce or it made it eye twitchingly saltier. My wife ordered two rolls. While one look amazing, it was just lacking in flavor. The other roll she had was deep fried with tempura batter. It was MASSIVE it size. But once she tried to pick it up, it literally looked like it deflated. It went flat and she had to use a plastic for (all that was available) to eat it. We purchased a canned soda from their cold case since the soda fountain was out of order, the soda still, wasn't very cold and we were handed small thin white plastic cups to pour our soda into to share. Again no ice since the fountain was broken. There was no music and they had maybe a total of 5 tables to use to dine so the one obnoxious family (not establishments fault) that was there, were sooo loud. It made even much more unenjoyable. I am sorry Joy Sushi, I wish this was a better experience. I almost feel bad, because you can see that they try really hard.

I've been a fan of Joy Sushi since first going to their San Mateo location back in 2011. They've always had good sized portions (rolls and entrees) and their prices can't be beat! When they opened a location at Bayfair Mall, I was ecstatic to see an affordable fast casual Japanese spot open in the area. It seems like the owner is a woman, and she runs the entire show. Kudos to her! It's not easy running a business in this area of San Leandro. I've been witness to a little riffraff here and there. All that aside, the food is consistently good the 2 times I've been here. The fish they use for sushi rolls is fresh, and I appreciate that they offer more than just your usual bento boxes and rolls. They also have Korean tteokkbokki among other options.

Great value and sushi tastes fresh as well! I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and loved it! Will go back again to try their other rolls. Friendly staff provided great service as well!

First time here and this place wasn't bad. I like it but I didn't get sushi. I went with the bento box with 2 sides. I had the fried rice, macaroni salad with chicken katsu and spicy chicken. First off, the spicy chicken was full of flavor which made me want more extra sides to it like maybe some veggies. Chicken katsu was crispy. My reaction from the crunch was ohhhh this is good! Way better than a Hawaiian bbq spot. Next time I need to try the sushi! Ohh and the cashier lady was very nice too. When eating in, I'm all about the service and the quality of the food. This place did not disappoint at all and I will be back!

I got a sizable order from Joy Sushi and had door dash deliver. I got the tempura shrimp, sweet and crunchy chicken , a large rice and large salad. Everything was excellent . The food was fresh and yummy . Give this place a try you will be glad you did. Bon appétit

This is my 3rd or 4th time at this location. So far, I have had nothing but a good experience. Ordering is very easy. I typically order online and just go pick it up so that it is easier and faster. The staff is very kind and friendly. The food is fresh and decent size. My husband and I love the Dragon Roll and I love their Sunshine (so zesty). Highly recommended! The miso soup is very nourishing. I have never dined in but the place looks clean. There is plenty of parking available. It might be difficult to find a parking space right in front of this place because the parking lot is for the entire plaza. However, there is always parking available somewhere.

My friend Holly drove all the way from Sacramento so I was keen to make the trip special in every way. Conveniently located, the restaurant accepts reservations, and there is an option to be seated at regular tables or in a lovely traditional Japanese styled seating area, where you dine seated cross legged! The only hitch is if you do plan to enjoy this seating you must come with socks. Lucky for us, we were able to buy a couple pair of nylons to enjoy the traditional set up! For dinner, we chose the omakase option, which is the chef's choice of some of the most fresh delicate and buttery sushi I've had in a long time. The size of the nigiri was just right, proportioned well with not too much rice and garnishes where it actually made sense as an enhancement, versus a detractor from the freshness of the fish. I also took a chance to order an appetizer of fried chicken knees! They were tasty and exactly how you might imagine them as gristly chewy and very satisfying for an adventurous eater like myself! We finished our meal with a lovely mound of mochi! The staff was so kind and very accommodating, especially after learning my friend had traveled so far to dine with them. I will definitely come back and wish them great success as an exceptional sushi experience in their local area.

We enjoyed our experience there because we did not feel rushed and the food came out in a timely order. I dislike when the appetizers come after the food, so it was nice to feel settled in and gauge how hungry we were before the entrees came out. On this particular occasion, we got a variety of dishes including some bento boxes, sushi rolls, some sashimi for me, and fried appetizers. I'm not usually a big fan of raw salmon based on a couple of negative experiences I've had at other restaurants, but I remember changing my mind after eating it at Makiyaki. My niece saw I was enjoying my food and even asked to try some of what I was having! It was a memorable moment for her as she had never eaten raw fish. She felt particularly proud of herself as a reformed picky eater. Things I like about this place is that parking is right in front. If you're not able to find it right away, there's plenty around the block or across the street at Safeway. The place is small and cozy but was able to accommodate our medium-sized group after the weekend dinner rush. Our server checked on us an adequate amount of times. We didn't feel ignored, but also not suffocated /rushed, and our food came out on time. They have some alcoholic beverages, soda, and hot tea. I would come back for an intimate dinner with friends and top it off with ice cream from either of the shops in the parking lot.
