    Chawanmushi
    Stephanie C.

Came here for our anniversary. Reservations were fairly easy to make. It is a small restaurant, and it seemed like most parties had made a reservation. The chawanmushi came out piping hot. It was delicate with crab on top and shrimp at the bottom. We loved the ikura nigiri, delectably salty! The premium set was also a great deal. I was very full at the end of the meal. The fish was fresh and there was. Decent fish to rice ratio.

This place never fails in terms of service, quality, and variety. I honestly haven't found better sushi in my area. There's something about the intimate nature of the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff that continue to bring us back. They put exceptional amount of care into every piece of sushi while personalizing the plating to conserve table space and better showcase the fish. We recommend ending your meal with their miso. We are so thankful for their service and their delightful food

The nigiri special was good. It also came with a negi hama roll as part of the special. In fact, all of the fish was fresh and delicious and I consider myself a sushi snob. My taste palette looks for the right amount of smoky flavor from torching the fish but some pieces were over done. And I couldn't get much of the sushi rice flavor but that's just me. Still seasoned well nonetheless. I also appreciate that this Japanese restaurant has chawanmushi. You can't get that dish just at any Japanese restaurant. Oh and do not skip on the Yuzu cheesecake it was so good and moist with bits of fresh Yuzu. You could pass on the Matcha cheesecake because that one was kind of dry to me. We made reservations but arrive 40 minutes early. We walked in ten minutes before opening not realizing so we waited outside. The tiny wooden sign at the bottom of the window said closed but the lit up open sign was on. It's simple enough inside but it is small. Our table for four was by the door and I felt a bit cramped. I took the window seat but the sun was beating on me. My work colleague was on the other side of the table and cold underneath the vent. Lots of people came in for takeout and sit down. I can see why they prefer reservations. I saw two guys at the sushi bar and there was one server. I would come back again if I'm in the area.

Fresh and high quality nigiris! I appreciate the seasoning in the sushi rice and the fish. You don't need to dip it in soy sauce, it's that good! You cannot beat the rice for the quality you get. I also like how you can choose the dish for your nigiri set. Deducted one star because the food took 30 mins to come out and the restaurant wasn't even full. Was hoping it would be a quick lunch spot, but I wouldn't be able to come during lunch break.

High end bougie sushi. We started with miso soup, and ordered the sashimi and nigiri specials. Everything was delicious! Very cramped and small hole in the wall spot in downtown Hayward in walking distance from Hayward bart. We got a dinner reservation on a Wednesday night, and thankfully got seated quickly. The staff were wonderfully courteous, and I enjoyed everything that we ate.

Mujiri is a small hole in the wall restaurant that has a cozy and small interior eating area. Despite the half hour wait, I truly believe this is one of the best sushi places in the area. The nigiri combo is priced at a base of $28, with upgrades such as ikura and uni available. I appreciate the waiter describing which nigiri is which fish (captioned in my pics). The chefs season each nigiri perfectly, and the pickled ginger is refreshingly sweet and the wasabi they use is a premium Japanese product that uses real wasabi seeds, which definitely makes a difference. They also sell oysters individually, something I don't see often, so I ordered one of their steamboat oysters and it was the perfect size to satisfy my craving.

Stumbled in for a quick lunch and fell in love with Mujiri!! We were recommended the nigiri combo, which is such a bang for your buck! You get to choose seven different fish, and it comes out so beautifully. I wasn't expecting much, but the fish was so fresh and so soft that it really surprised me. We also ordered the mackerel nigiri, Uni nigiri, and toro roll and absolutely loved everything. They really put the quality and care into the food! The restaurant itself is cozy and intimate with limited seating. Parking is easy with street parking and lots nearby. Servers are also very friendly and attentive!

Ok, Hayward. I see you. Came here hungry and got the nigiri combo with chef choice rolls and chawanmushi. Both were excellent! I usually would get sashimi but I heard their rice is really good so got the nigiri and it didn't disappoint. Everything was fresh and so flavorful, I didn't want to put any soy sauce. The chawanmushi was perfect as well. Although, I didn't leave completely stuffed, I was satisfied and I will definitely need to come back. Ambiance is unassuming. It's very small and easy to miss. Lots of parking across the street.

A hidden-gem in downtown Hayward! Mujiri serves Edomae-style nigiri in their small establishment, dishing out beautiful sets with fresh fish. Very small restaurant, definitely recommend making a reservation just in case. The nigiri combo is the way to go, you get to choose from 7 different pieces (no repeats allowed) and there may even be specials that day offering high-end fish that can typically be seen at pricey omakase places. Worth a stop or take-out if you're craving nigiri!

Ordered some fresh sushi takeout from Mujiri. The packaging was so artsy and unique (video/pictures attached). The maki rolls were fresh and they did not skimp on the fish. We got the spicy sake maki and salmon&shisho hosimaki rolls. Both were delicious and fresh. Cannot comment on the service or ambience as we got takeout. Highly recommend !

Mujiri is a must-visit and such a great spot to bring friends for fresh, mouthwatering nigiri combos and rolls. Parking can be tough but I always park across the street in the parking lot (which can fill up quick). I always order the Nigiri Combo, which is now $32. I remember when it was $25, but honestly, it's still worth the extra $7+ for the quality you're getting. I alone can get full off the Nigiri Combo but I recommend ordering the any one of the Ala Carte Maki Rolls like the Spicy Sake Roll. The nigiri is so so delicious on its own, you don't even need to dip it in soy sauce. The staff are always friendly and will explain each fish, which I really appreciate. The interior is cozy and intimate, seating is limited. If you're planning to eat inside, I definitely recommend making a reservation in case. I've come in during lunch for one person and seating can fill up.

I always have a great experience ordering from Mujiri. The fish is always super fresh and you can really taste the quality. This time we got the 7 nigiri box and it was such a great mix of fish. Everything was so good! The restaurant itself is really charming and cozy too. I can't wait to come back and dine in next time!

It was actually a pretty good value as the bento box itself was large and the portions of salmon, unagi, crab and seaweed salad were large. They definitely could have put more rice, and the seaweed salad was a little fishy for my liking, but overall it was delicious! Salmon was torched, unagi was saucy and the crab was creamy. I also ordered the creme brulee sando. I wish the custard was the filling all the way through! It's only a custard bruleed top and the rest is cream. It was delicious but the cream was a little overwhelming.

For takeout I thought it would come out fast, but it took about 15 minutes. Iicha box (4/5): This comes with seared salmon, unagi, and imitation crab over a bed of rice. For $23 it's not too bad. However I thought the salmon tasted warm (not from the sear) and thats something you probably don't want to taste. The unagi sauce was a bit too sweet. Despite that I enjoyed it. Cream sando (5/5); I really wanted to try this and this was one of the few places in the bay that served this. The deep fried crust was crunchy. The cream filling was actually filling. A bit too sweet for me but it was a good try. I recommend coming to try their sandos.

Not many tables here, but for sat right away. Menu is pretty standard, ordered veggie tempura appetizer, a roll, sushi nigiri combo, and some drinks. My friend Holly drove all the way from Sacramento so I was keen to make the trip special in every way. Conveniently located, the restaurant accepts reservations, and there is an option to be seated at regular tables or in a lovely traditional Japanese styled seating area, where you dine seated cross legged! The only hitch is if you do plan to enjoy this seating you must come with socks. Lucky for us, we were able to buy a couple pair of nylons to enjoy the traditional set up! For dinner, we chose the omakase option, which is the chef's choice of some of the most fresh delicate and buttery sushi I've had in a long time. The size of the nigiri was just right, proportioned well with not too much rice and garnishes where it actually made sense as an enhancement, versus a detractor from the freshness of the fish. I also took a chance to order an appetizer of fried chicken knees! They were tasty and exactly how you might imagine them as gristly chewy and very satisfying for an adventurous eater like myself! We finished our meal with a lovely mound of mochi! The staff was so kind and very accommodating, especially after learning my friend had traveled so far to dine with them. I will definitely come back and wish them great success as an exceptional sushi experience in their local area.
