Came in on a slightly busy evening, and was seated practically shoulder to shoulder with strangers. The tables are so close together, you can hear full conversations of other people. The service is fine, no complaints but also not memorable. We got the AYCE, which is $40.95. For such a high price I imagined that the sushi would be high quality, and fresh. How wrong I was, their tuna and hamachi is very tasteless. Their rolls rely heavily on sauces, and large amounts of rice to fill up the customer. On the first order the rice was fine, however on our second round of ordering the rice had been overly sweetened with the rice vinegar seasoning. I felt like I was eating a desert or candy. Keep in mind you must eat all the sushi you order or you will be charged $1.50 per piece. Didn't even bother ordering the third round. We left full but disappointed with our meal.

Incredible portions every time. This is a regular spot for my family and I, the rolls are never lacking, and we almost get the same sashimi assortment every time along with the fish head. Service is fast and there's always plenty of seating.

The inside is nice, smells clean. Food overall It was pretty mid, in my opinion. I ordered the Samurai, Phoenix, Lobster Monster, Caterpillar, and Orange Blossom rolls, plus a miso soup. Out of everything, the Phoenix roll was the only one I really enjoyed. The miso soup was also disappointing. I came here because of all the hype and was considering trying the all-you-can-eat, but after this experience, I don't think it's worth it for me. I took pictures of most of the rolls, but 2 came out later, and I was already ready to leave, so I forgot to take a picture of it.

Came during an off time on a weekday for lunch, it was pretty empty inside. I was sat right away and ordering was very quick. I got the nigiri moriwase and it came in a staircase like display super pretty and cute! The nigiris were also HUGE! For $23.99 and 9 nigiris honestly can't beat the pricing here. The fish is slightly above average but nothing too crazy but I think for the price it's quite worth it. My only issue was the seared tuna had a bit too much stringiness. I'd come back again if I'm in the area and craving sushi and didn't want to spend my entire wallet!

One of the better sushi places in the area. Good sides too except for the spice edamame. The spicy edamame is bad. It's not spicy garlic, it's just an overpowering hot spice.

Ah another Kakuna Sushi location off my list. I didn't know that there were so many locations up and down the East Bay and South Bay. The decor is very modern, simple, and sparse. They have inside seating only. The service is very friendly, thoughtful, and attentive. Two Roll Special - Spicy Salmon Roll & California Roll (4/5). Both rolls were good. Salmon Teriyaki Donburi (4/5) - served with miso soup & orange slices. Support your local business.

Really enjoyed the uni and sashimi here. Both were fresh and flavorful, and those are definitely what I'd come back for. If you're a fan of uni or sashimi, this spot is worth checking out.

My family and I love coming here. The food is always so yummy and good. My daughter even loved the oranges that is placed on the plates. My son likes the teriyaki beef a lot. It's super tender and not chewy at all. We come here all the time. Price is reasonable and food never disappoints.

We came here to celebrate a birthday and we had a really great experience here. The rolls were decently sized, tasted good, and the price was good compared to average Bay Area prices. Taking into consideration of these three criteria, I would recommend kakuna. Seating inside was spacious, and service was really good. Wait staff was attentive and we were pleasantly surprised when they came out with an ice cream even though we didn't mention we had a birthday, they either were super attentive and overheard us mention our birthday or they were mind readers. I will be back and think this is great sushi spot compared to many other countless spots that I have tried.

Good food, fast service, nice and spacious for large parties. Huge menu selection. We got grilled squid, deep fried soft shell crab, and 2 sushi rolls- good experience.

The Sashimi Deluxe was outstanding! The fish was incredibly fresh, thickly sliced, and beautifully presented. Every piece melted in my mouth and tasted high quality. The portion was generous and definitely worth the price. The service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere. If you're a sashimi lover, I highly recommend ordering the Sashimi Deluxe at Kakuna Sushi. I'll definitely be back!

My friend Holly drove all the way from Sacramento so I was keen to make the trip special in every way. Conveniently located, the restaurant accepts reservations, and there is an option to be seated at regular tables or in a lovely traditional Japanese styled seating area, where you dine seated cross legged! The only hitch is if you do plan to enjoy this seating you must come with socks. Lucky for us, we were able to buy a couple pair of nylons to enjoy the traditional set up! For dinner, we chose the omakase option, which is the chef's choice of some of the most fresh delicate and buttery sushi I've had in a long time. The size of the nigiri was just right, proportioned well with not too much rice and garnishes where it actually made sense as an enhancement, versus a detractor from the freshness of the fish. I also took a chance to order an appetizer of fried chicken knees! They were tasty and exactly how you might imagine them as gristly chewy and very satisfying for an adventurous eater like myself! We finished our meal with a lovely mound of mochi! The staff was so kind and very accommodating, especially after learning my friend had traveled so far to dine with them. I will definitely come back and wish them great success as an exceptional sushi experience in their local area.
