3 item Bento (Chicken Teriyaki, Sashimi, California Roll) Chicken & Sashimi are at a slight up-charge.
franco C.

ordered a bento box for takeout and overall it was a solid experience, with some highs and a few "learning moments" . First, credit where it's due: the chicken teriyaki was the highlight. Great flavor, nice glaze, and definitely the star of the meal. The portions were generous, and I appreciated how everything was packaged separately so nothing got soggy during transport (small detail but makes a difference). Now for the honest part. I added sashimi and a California roll as upgrades (only a small upcharge, so I was curious to try them), but the texture was a bit too chewy for my preference. When something is labeled as an upgrade, I think most people expect it to feel a little more "premium," so that part didn't quite hit the mark for me. The rice was also slightly firm, which made parts of the meal feel less fresh than I hoped. That said, I would absolutely come back, I'd just lean into what they clearly do best: the hot kitchen items. Lesson learned: trust the chicken . Overall: good value, generous portions, and solid takeout packaging. Skip the sushi if you're texture-sensitive like me, and you'll probably have a great meal.

Three Dinner 3 Item Bento

Casual neighborhood Japanese spot serving affordable bento and rolls. The three item lunch bento is a great deal, and the portions are generous so there are always leftovers to enjoy the next day. Service is excellent as well, especially for a no frills place. Good place to catch up on sports on the large flatscreens while you enjoy your food.

Lion King Roll (6-8) one of my favorite

Staple sushi store in this little square. Always reliable. Consistent. Very fresh sashimi. We always get a lunch bento. Very Casual ambiance. Family friendly and can seat 25 people comfortably. . Friendly service. Staff will explain the items if you need clarification. You can buy the salad dressing to take home.

My second visit was for take out. Again delicious, fresh sushi. This time I tried the Poke Salad and the Rainbow Roll. I did try to call in my order but got cut off and had a difficult time getting through again. I was happy when I finally did. The person taking my order was polite and friendly. Next time I will try online ordering for pickup so I don't have to wait.

Quality/Quantity - 3 Item Bento - Chicken and Salmon Teriyaki, Fish Katsu. Generous portions of chicken, but had a VERY smoky flavor which was not our preference. Salmon - Was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp, yet it was still moist. Fish Katsu - Ummmm, you need to change your oil. We can taste the aftertaste and "burn" flavors of this fry. Sushi = Crazy Horse - My favorite of the 3 rolls. Decent, almost generous portions. Kamikaze - I enjoyed this, but my daughter said the salmon tasted "off." Playboy - Similar to the above fish katsu fry, this was probably fried in the same oil. A burnt flavor with the crab fry. Decent portions, but hard to eat due to the crab fry. Atmosphere - Not an easy place to find. Facing Safeway supermarket, they are around the corner to the left, near McDonalds. And they are NOT well lit. Open 7 days a week. See picture of business hours. Yelp and their website differ slightly. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Fail today. The waitress struggled to handle the 6 tables. My daughter believes that she is the owner...? There was also a consistent flow of to-go orders. Because we only had one interaction with the waitress after asking for service a few times, so we made sure we got everything we needed and wanted immediately. The bus girl did a better job taking care of the customers. Then they forgot one of our rolls. We should have canceled it. When it finally got to us after asking and continuing to wait longer, we were already full. Yes, we ordered one too many rolls. Price - $74 + more generous tip then deserved. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2008. Good luck.

I had higher expectations for the quality of service and food since this is a popular spot among my friends. This place is tucked away and there is plenty of parking. I phone ordered take-out for 5 specialty rolls; it was a busy Friday night. I stood in the take-out line behind a gentleman for about 15 min, we were both ignored. It seems that Minami's has a system - they will place take-out orders on the bar counter, you grab your bag, and then you pay. It was awkward being in the way of the waiters trying to walk by but I didn't want to lose my spot in line. Not a big fan of how unorganized picking up was. SF Giants Roll - (4/5) Solid roll, my favorite roll of the ones I tried. Crazy Horse Roll (2/5) - Way too much rice, this was 50-60% rice. I liked the combo of 3 different fish and a touch of avocado though. Dragon Roll - (4/5) Solid roll! Volcanic Scallop Roll - (3/5) I thought this roll would be baked, it seems like it was lightly torched since the scallop was still raw. I didn't really like the sauce since the taste resembled cream cheese, not a fan of cream cheese in/on sushi. Ichiban Roll - (4/5) Solid roll! Overall, the food is decent. In my opinion, these rolls are smaller overall and the length is shorter (less pieces). The staff was nice when I was paying, and they should figure out how to acknowledge / process takeout orders better.

Top - snow white roll Bottom - honeymoon

Feels like this place gets better every time we go and it's as close to a 5-star but not 5-star as it gets. Food is great quality and tasty but it just doesn't have the wow factor to make it a 5. Nonetheless, this is the sushi spot from here on out. Go to order is going to be kamikaze, snow white, and ichiban. Also got a honeymoon and shogun but forget which one we liked and which one we could do without. Guess we'll have to try it out next time!

scallop nigiri

mmm this is a san leandro must very homey and quaint yet the quality is so great their bento box combo is very worthwhile my go to is the 3 item getting the saba, short rib, and tempura ! as for the sushi you can't go wrong with a 49er or scallop nigiri you also get free edamame upon sitting down

I thought I had written a review last ate here which was 8 or 9 years ago. So I gave Minami Sushi again after so long. Steak bento & Chirashi is what we ordered. My Chirashi was served with regular rice instead of the sushi rice which has rice vinegar. The pieces of fish were a bit small. The Chirashi bowl was decent. The steak bento was served with a hefty portion of steak. I'm not sure if this is how they serve it here or the made a portion size mistake. It would be nice if the servers were more attentive. We had to get their an attention a few times. I would came back as a last resort.

Joined her cousins for dinner. We arrived early and had a table reserved. We were surprised to see that the business was constant and there were always people waiting for a table. Of course, it was the dinner hour. We arrived first and were seated. We were asked if we'd like to order drinks, which we did. She was disappointed to learn that they don't offer Iced Tea, so she got hot Green Tea instead. This was the first disconnect that we noticed. From order time to drinks being served probably took close to 10 minutes. When the rest of our group arrived, they all ordered Ice, Water which came fairly quickly. There were five of us and we all ordered three-item Bento Boxes in different combinations. We also ordered two orders of Agedashi Tofu, and the restaurant also presented us with two orders of Deep Fried Gyoza. I had Sashimi (+$1), Tonkatsu and Mixed Tempura. The Bento also came with Steamed Rice, Salad, Miso Soup and a half-slice of orange. She had Saba Shioyaki, Mixed Tempura and BBQ Short Rib (=$1) I didn't pay close attention to what others ordered and then realized after we were done eating that I had forgotten to take photos of our Bentos. The Salads and Miso Soup that came with the Bento were good. We didn't care for the way the Agedashi Tofu was presented. Somewhat deconstructed? The Tofu was in the middle of the plate with Bonito Flakes and Green Onions of opposite sides. I've never seen that presentation before. The sauce was served on the side in a plastic serving cup. There wasn't enough sauce, it wasn't hot, and the plastic is simply more garbage for the landfill. While we appreciated receiving the Gyoza, I would never order Deep Fried Gyoza because of the texture. My Tempura was pretty good but once again, the dipping sauce came in plastic cup. The sauce for my Tonkatsu also came in a plastic serving cup. There was only enough sauce for 1/2 the order. The order of Tonkatsu was surprisingly large and the pork was very tender. I didn't ask for more since I was full, and I have plenty of condiments at home. My Sashimi was okay. Three pieces of Maguro and two pieces of Sake. She really enjoyed her Bento Box and apparently everyone else enjoyed theirs as well. Overall, it was a decent meal but definitely leaning more toward what I call American Japanese than true Japanese. The menu appears to be fairly extensive, and they have a ton of rolls to choose from. The staff was friendly and many of them knew our companions.

This is me and my family's go to for sushi near home! The food is always cooked fresh and consistently delicious. They have lots of cooked/hot rolls for those that don't like sashimi grade fish. They also have delicious sashimi grade and a huge menu that'll satisfy everyone's palate. We were recently rained in for my birthday and ordered a smorgasbord of things...all delicious

R u open today on thanksgiving?

Is there any outdoor dining?

Unfortunately, they do not have outdoor dining only indoor.

Do they offer brown rice, soy paper or cucumber wrapped rolled, instead of white rice?

I do know they have soy paper, that's how I get all my rolls.

Do they use recyclable/composable containers for take out?

I went there to watch the Valkyries game, the best sub for a Warriors games as I await the start of the new Dubs season a month and a half away. I was thrilled to find that they have two new mult-big screen configurations that combine to create two ultra screens! The staff there made sure I got a great seat in view of the ultra screens. For dinner, I ordered the Fried Ribs. They were a good size and fried well, turning out tasty and tender. I really enjoyed the included side of big steak fries, which were very hot and seasoned with the right amount of salt. The service was outstanding. I felt more like a guest in a home rather than a customer in a sports bar. Also there that night was a lively birthday party with a DJ and everything. I was tempted to get up and groove with them, but 1) I didn't have an invite and 2) It was clearly a girls' night out... The Valkyries lost, but Rickey's is a winner. Stop by and you'll feel like one too.

The service has always been good, the food is pretty tasty with bar classics and cold beer. I believe the original owner, Rickey?, passed away a couple years ago and it closed. The new owner opened it up and kept most things the same. The overall vibe is still cool, it's a shame the Raiders left town to keep the fanatic spirit alive. I have a good friend that lives nearby, so will continue to stop by and support a legendary bar. Order some wings and a cold one if you're in the mood to watch sports and reminisce.

Personally, this bar wouldn't make my top 50 list, but for some crazy reason they're loyal to it, so I show up for them. Recently, I've popped in a bit more and wow, the "changes." They finally made an Instagram, which got me excited for a second--maybe they were stepping it up. Nope. Just like everything else here, it's inconsistent. They post food specials, I come in ready to spend money, and... no food. Overheard it was a management issue. Shocking. Then there's the alcohol selection--or lack thereof. I'm not even a big drinker, and I have a better bar setup at home. Half the time they're out of basics, or waiting on the owner to maybe, someday, bring more. Call yourself a bar? More like BYOB and hope for the best. I'll give credit where it's due: I've met some cool people here, and they're the only thing keeping this place alive. But even they seem tired of the chaos. I heard this is the oldest bar in San Leandro, and honestly, I'm amazed it's still standing. Must be sheer luck or nostalgia, because it's definitely not management. Two stars because I don't hate the regulars--but let's be real, if this place wants to survive, it needs way more than an Instagram and a prayer.
