I've been coming here on and off for years with my two friends whenever they want to celebrate something. Personally, this bar wouldn't make my top 50 list, but for some crazy reason they're loyal to it, so I show up for them. Recently, I've popped in a bit more and wow, the "changes." They finally made an Instagram, which got me excited for a second--maybe they were stepping it up. Nope. Just like everything else here, it's inconsistent. They post food specials, I come in ready to spend money, and... no food. Overheard it was a management issue. Shocking. Then there's the alcohol selection--or lack thereof. I'm not even a big drinker, and I have a better bar setup at home. Half the time they're out of basics, or waiting on the owner to maybe, someday, bring more. Call yourself a bar? More like BYOB and hope for the best. I'll give credit where it's due: I've met some cool people here, and they're the only thing keeping this place alive. But even they seem tired of the chaos. I heard this is the oldest bar in San Leandro, and honestly, I'm amazed it's still standing. Must be sheer luck or nostalgia, because it's definitely not management. Two stars because I don't hate the regulars--but let's be real, if this place wants to survive, it needs way more than an Instagram and a prayer. read more

I only came here because my buddy's a regular and told me I had to check it out. Honestly, worst bar experience I've had in a long time. Management is a mess. Handwritten "cash only" signs slapped up everywhere, hours that change whenever they feel like it, and zero consistency. The owner is the real issue--she's rude, has an attitude, and literally picks and chooses who she wants to serve. Doesn't matter if you've got cash in hand, if she decides she doesn't like you, you're not getting served. Everyone's money is the same, but apparently not here. The staff try to do their jobs, but her negative energy kills the whole vibe. A dive bar is supposed to be laid-back and welcoming--this place is the complete opposite. And the cleanliness? Forget it. The bathrooms are disgusting, the floors are sticky, and the whole place just feels dirty and run down. If this is how the bathrooms look, I don't even want to think about what the rest of it looks like behind the bar. Only reason this review even gets one star is because the regulars seemed cool enough. But unless you're part of their clique, don't expect to feel at home here. BOB'S DA BES'! It's been proven time and time again, and at this point I'm ready to let the secret out. Cunha's is a little bar situated amongst random restaurants and shops in the Pelton Shopping Center. Though usually dim-lit, Cunha's shines! The staff are fun, helpful, and friendly and the drinks always seem to be just the right balance of y'all-didn't-skimp-me-but-I'm-not-too-drunk-to-remember-this-tomorrow. (Except that one time, with this one Cadillac Margarita I wasn't ready for... But that's how I met my future husband, so it all worked out.) In the COVID-19 crisis, Cunha's has had to do a little adjusting, so you do have to order food to sit down and have a drink outside these days. (There's $1 vending machine snacks or fried chicken plates available.) They still have a TV for you and the tribe to watch the game, so boogie on down. read more

I love coming to little bars! I was very impressed for a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Nice turnout. It was a bit dark inside but that's the vibes here. I did get a couple stares, but everyone eventually stopped. Betty is amazing. She did a layered liquid cocaine shot. First time i've ever had it and it really put me on my ass. It didn't help that I hadn't eaten, but that was something else! I love that they have pinball machines and other games you can play. The layout of the bar is great for all types of guests! They have tables, bar tops, and open areas all around. Drinks are super cheap as well, so that's a big win! Happy drinking and happy yelping. read more

One of the very few awesome n friendly bars I have ever been to. If you ever come here make sure that Rick the bartender is working:) usually here like mondays or Sundays he makes the best drinks and for a great price too! the atmosphere is a little "dive" but its more like a place where people take their worries and lift up their spirits instead. We discovered Cunha's while ... believe it or not "bar hopping" in San Leandro. We were just getting tired of First Fridays in Oakland and preferred to have something closer to home. Flash forward to the present, I essentially come to Cunhas once a week if not more religiously. It's literally my favorite dive bar, even bar in San Leandro. So if I'm drinking you'll most likely find me here. It's went through a lot of renovations lately and it's better than you might imagine. When your mother said don't judge a book by its cover, she was right. This place gets lit and they have different theme days of the week. Tuesdays are poker nights. Wednesdays are karaoke nights until 10pm. They have beer pong nights too and show the Warriors game. It's cleaned up really well inside, I mean it's a completely different bar from what it used to be, but it's not boujee. It's the perfect San Leandro addition and got some sweet happy hour deals 2x a day. Even better, without the happy hour deals, your drinks are still heavy handed AND easy on the wallet. They have everything from top shelf to your college frat days and even coffee. Better yet, the Chinese food place delivers your order right into Cunhas! Weekends, weeknights depends on the day and the hour you might come into an empty bar, or the busiest of the bars. Super chill location to hang out, meet people, get drunk and super easy to order your Lyft or Uber home. Highly recommend you to stop by and plus the owners show up every now and then, and they're super friendly. Love getting feedback from guests and always looking to make the place better. Bathrooms are separated and still one stall each, but hey, we're there to drink not use the bathrooms. This place is awesome! I have been looking for a place to go hang out, grab a drink, but not overly stuffy...aka a cool dive bar. I have been wanting to check it out previously but hadn't gotten around to it. I decided to meet a date here and had a great time. The bartenders were friendly, the prices were great, and the patrons were super cool. I say super cool because I'm a queer, masculine of center (MOC) person of color (POC) who was obviously on a date. No grief was had and a couple of the guys even struck up conversations with me. I have been coming to Cunhas regularly for about seven years now and I will say that it is one of my favorite places to grab a drink in of the East Bay. From the family atmosphere to the skilled bartenders (Amanda, Bobby, and Victoria ), and excellent drinks, it is a great place to drop by for either a quick one, or an entire afternoon/evening of fun. Some other favorite perks of the bar are are the awesome music (with a great sound system), the two dart boards, and the pool table located in the back in the perfect spot. Not to mention the brand new 7 flat screens always playing all the games of the day. The first time my friend brought me here it was crowded but fun. As someone who grew up in San Leandro I thought it would be fun to go back to. Wrong. My friend and I walked in and the place wasn't crowded, but all the seats at the bar were taken. I was looking at the specials when the bartender shouted across the bar asking "if I was looking for the bathroom or something". I said no thank you I'm just trying to figure out what to order. She rudely said she couldn't hear me and I would have to go over to talk to her, along with many hand gestures. At that point my friend and I walked out and went to the cooler down the street for a beer and polite and helpful bar tender. I can find the bathroom myself thank you very much. I didn't say anything to the bar tender to begin with as I was not ready to order, so the attitude was made me feel unwelcome. read more

I mean I get the whole dive bar thing, but you can totally be a dive bar and still maintain an area without flies and drinks spilled everywhere. And plastic cups....really? I'm not really sure if they have some kinda specific screwdriver on their menu that's different, but a screwdriver is just vodka and OJ. This bar has a great atmosphere and an all around good time! We stumbled upon this place accidentally and I'm glad we did. Adam, the owner, made us feel welcome right when we walked up to the bar. All the bartenders are attentive and I was never without a drink. I judge bars by their bathroom situation and this passed my test. They were stocked with TP, soap, AND paper towels ... that's unheard of at bars! It's my new favorite dive bar in the area! When in the need of a fun time out I always go to Cunha's. I've been going to this bar for over a year and have seen the transformation. The new Manager Amanda is doing a wonderful job. All of the bartenders are friendly and attentive... they will also make any type of drink to your specifications. The crowd is mixed in age, and I really like it, a perfect balance for everyone. Everything is really clean, including the bathrooms... which lets be honest, isn't always the case at a small bar. You can bring in food too which is nice. A couple of times we walked over to the Tacqueria and ordered some things, brought them back... ate and continued our night. The music is good... I like that there is a jukebox so the crowd can pick and choose the music they want to hear. There is pool tables, larger tables for groups and darts. I've hosted a couple of parties here, and plan to do more in the future. If your'e looking for an easy night out, with no cover, good music, and great people come to Cunha's! read more

This place is o.k, I prefer the parker house any day of the week, but i decided to venture out and try check out other 'Dro dive bars. I ordered my usual, double shot of greygoose, chilled with a tomato back. It's my version of a deconstructed bloody mary. The bartender precisely measured the double shot, which I did not like. I figure if I'm paying 18.00-20.00 for a drink you should be a little generous with the alcohol. It means a better tip as well. On top of the small portion, the tomato juice I got was rotten! Eww! Not sure even what to say- they don't even deserve the one star by default, we had arrived just before 11pm to have all the doors locked and a group of ppl inside -yet the bartender yelled at the door that they were closed. All the ppl inside just laughed and no one ever came to the door. There was nothing posted that it was closed to The public due to a private party. Seemed sketchy, we will definitely Never return. Instead found a spot on Washington that was awesome and. Welcoming. The staff & regulars even came over and introduced themselves! They had music and a pool table, but more importantly good vibes! I love Cunha's. I wish that was all I could write and then 100's would flock there just to experience it for themselves, however I think it would be more pertinent to review on. It's a dive, in all senses, it is tucked away in a shopping center, hasn't been updated in a century-ish, bathrooms reek of petty crime. Sold yet? Cheap drinks, dim lights, bar buffets and karaoke on Thursdays. If you need more from a bar, try taverns, lounges, ultra lounges, bistros or otherwise. read more
