The food here is always great! The service is quick and friendly. The ambiance is cute and a taste of Japanese culture

This local sushi spot has been my family's go to for years! The sushi is always fresh and flavors on point as well. This visit we got the lion king, e14 roll, dragon roll, spider roll, bad ass roll, katsudon, and hamachi kama. My favorite here is always the e14 roll and bad ass roll but you can't go wrong with any of the options here. Prices are reasonable and you'll definitely leave full.

This is an updates review. We went in for a late lunch yesterday. Around 2 PM, and it was very quiet, which was very nice. It's a very intimate setting in terms of space. It's definitely on the smaller side, almost to the point of tables and chairs being very close together and it just seemed like it could be a very cramped space if it were busy. The service was amazing. I have some dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating. When it came to the adjustment of recipes and such. The actual food was definitely of quality. The fish was excellent. Just kind of melted in your mouth. The pricing was very fair, and it was a very nice experience in general. I'm giving it a 5 star. Because I'm writing it based on the customer service, the quality of the food and the ambiance. I personally prefer a place that's a little quieter and not so busy, so I'm grateful for that.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I grew up in San Leandro and always went to Kaisen don or sushiland. So when my friend recommended me this spot, I was super excited. The food and service were really good! We were greeted and taken care of very well here. The food was also very solid! I would definitely come back!

Tsuru was such a great find! The vibe felt just like a classic, cozy sushi spot -- simple, inviting, and perfect for a night out. We went all in with sake bombs (fun and lively), three different rolls -- including my favorite, the Lion King -- plus garlic edamame, plum wine, and a 6-piece chef's choice sashimi plate. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and easygoing, and the atmosphere made it feel like the kind of place you could make a regular stop. Definitely recommend for anyone craving quality sushi with a relaxed, welcoming energy.

I was actually bringing a friend to Sushi Delight around the corner, but I guess they're closed on Mondays despite Google giving me Monday hours for them! Happy to learn of a new and maybe slightly better sushi spot! The older waiter guy might be construed as cranky or not friendly, but he was fine and he got the orders right and even placed the correct order in front of the right person. Two of us had Bento boxes and one of us had the chicken teriyaki rice place. We shared the calamari appetizer. The calamari could have used more seasoning as it was bland even with the provided sauce. The Bento boxes and rice plate were all really good. The tempura selection is much better and plentiful than the other restaurant. The miso soup had more tofu and seaweed in it. The meats were just as good, too. Bonus points for the little section in the Bento box filled with pickled cucumbers and sesame seeds. Another great touch is the cute little dessert orange! We were surprised and pleased for this! Also, they offered to box up our leftovers for us and they did so artfully! That's great service!

I usually go to a spot around the corner but on this day it was closed so a couple of friends and I decided to come to Tsuru. We were so glad to come here! The service was fast, the food was good and the fish was SO FRESH! I think I might I might have a new sushi spot and is definitely recommend!

Went here because Kakuna sushi wasn't open yet and I have to say it was just very mid. And expensive for what you get. I ordered the 49er and the spicy tuna roll and katsudon. 49er was alright, the spicy tuna roll was my favorite because of the creaminess from the avocado. Their rolls are tiny though, so like I said it's expensive for what you get. The katsu in the katsudon was not crispy at all and the rice to chicken ratio was totally off. 75% of the bowl was just rice and I ended up not finishing it because of the shear amount of rice. It's ran by a cute couple though

Phenomenal Sushi - the crab hand roll is mouth watering! Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Special sashimi by special chef today.

Tsuru serve top quality fish, hamachi are very fresh and tasty with little kick with thin slice jalapeño. Very delicious combination. tonight is Friday is busy, waitresses are friendly and quick, especially the new waitress, I like their Saba, very unique flavored and fresh. San Leandro Roll - salmon w/ avocado & cream cheese ($9.50)

Located right along E 14th, this cute restaurant has a decent selection of items on their menu. I had just come off of a 2-3 day fast and wanted to eat something lighter and clean. This spot was definitely "lighter" and "clean" eats for what we ordered. Ordered: - Green Magma Roll (White tuna w/ soy sheet & avocado sauce) - San Leandro Roll (Smoke salmon w/ avocado & sour cream) - Tempura (2 shrimp, 1 zucchini, 1 eggplant, 1 kabocha, 1 broccoli) - Chicken teriyaki & vegetables donburi So I'm a little upset about the donburi because I realized that they never even gave us our soup and salad that were supposed to come with it. Also, just FYI - the donburi and entree plates are exactly the same thing according to the server... The only difference is one is served in a bowl on top of the rice, while the plate serves each item separately.. but also the donburi comes with more rice, so I would assume the donburi has slightly more value at the same price.. Anyway, the chicken was pretty dry and they didn't give much veggies. Also, not a lot of teriyaki sauce to help with the dryness. It's not a terrible dish, but I'll probably never order that again. I enjoyed the tempura and it's light flakiness. The veggie items were ones that I favored. The San Leandro Roll is basically a Philly roll. Nice rice to ingredients ratio. The Green Magma Roll was a little different as it topped an avocado sauce, and I liked the bite size portions of these. Wanted to try a different spot than my usual area of getting sushi closer to Bayfair, but I can't say this was totally worth it. Their prices were honestly off-putting. A 3-item bento box was over $33 or so and their sashimi platters were out of my range of willingness to even look at for even just 6 pieces. The prices alone will deter me from coming back here. My favorite item there though was actually the complimentary hot green tea! It warmed my soul and was just what I needed to help me forget that we apparently didn't get our miso soup and salad. Other than that, their quality of sushi seemed fresh.

Fairly standard sushi spot. Plenty of paid parking in the area. It was pretty empty when we came in but service was still slow and felt like they didn't want us to be there. Regardless, we enjoyed the food. Fairly good rice to fish ratio. I liked that they had a variety of fish available, particularly amaebi. Probably wouldn't come again because of the service but a decent place if you're craving sushi and other spots are closed during the mid afternoon closing hours.

Both were so good, but my tonkatsu ramen completely stole the show. This might be the best one I've ever had, and I've had a lot. The broth was rich, and the meat was so flavorful, and just so satisfying. I was already planning my next visit before I even finished my bowl. That's how you know it's good. They have so many items on the menu and everything looked delicious. I really want to try something new next time, but honestly I might just order the tonkatsu ramen again. No regrets.

The fish was fresh, clean, and cut well. No funky smell, no weird texture. Just straightforward sashimi done right. They were generous with the ginger, which I appreciated. I wouldn't have minded a little more wasabi, but that's a minor gripe and easy to ask for next time. What really stood out was the to go presentation. The platter was laid out nicely, not thrown together, and the packaging was actually cute. Little details like that matter, especially when you're taking food home. This place sits right on the East Oakland San Leandro border, easy to miss if you're not looking, but definitely worth stopping for. For the price, quality, and portion, I'll absolutely be back. This is one of those spots you keep in rotation when you want sashimi without getting robbed.

Portions on the boxes were plentiful and the rolls were decent sized. Spent about 200 (including tip) on 8 people (each getting an item) not bad. Only problem was that I did put instructions on a couple items and they were overlooked (make spicy) so I went inside to get spicy mayo on the side. Since it was a birthday celebration we ordered agedashi tofu, gyoza, chirashi sushi, sake don, salmon lover roll, unagi hand roll, salmon skin hand roll, 2 - three item bento boxes (one with salmon teriyaki, chicken teriyaki and short ribs and the other with salmon teriyaki, sashimi and beef teriyaki. The service was attentive and everything was tasty and fresh. I enjoyed my salmon skin hand roll, my 3 item bento box with salmon teriyaki, 4 piece sashimi (2 tuna 2 salmon) and beef teriyaki. I really wouldn't call this place a Japanese restaurant, but rather a Japanese-Chinese fusion…read morerestaurant. If you go in with tempered expectations, you may have a better experience than I did going in assuming this was standard Japanese fare. We went with the black garlic ramen (spicy), the lamb, beef, and black pork skewers (three skewers each), potato skewers, green onion skewers, tuna nigiri, tamago nigiri, chicken karaage, and gyoza. The skewers all tasted the same due to the HEAVY amount of dry seasoning rubbed onto every skewer, which is the same spice rub regardless of the meat. The layer of spice is so thick that it falls off everywhere as you're eating it. They also used the same spice mix on the potatoes and in the ramen, making the entire meal incredibly one note in terms of flavor profile. The flavors also clashed with the garlic ramen. The spices tasted like what I've had before in the broth at malatang restaurants and was a poor match for Japanese food. The chicken karaage was actually super delicious, but was more like popcorn chicken than karaage. It was also served with honey mustard, which made it feel like a different dish entirely. The gyoza were fine, nothing to write home about, and the sushi was good. The tuna was fresh and the tamago had a bit of caramelization going on, which was different than other examples I've had of it and I liked it. If you ignore for a moment that you're in a Japanese restaurant and came for Japanese food, you might have a good time here. The meat skewers were cooked perfectly and delicious, the ramen was prepared very well (and pretty generous in size), and the fish was fresh. But the one-note Chinese flavors took me out of this meal entirely and it ultimately fell flat for me, though my husband really enjoyed his meal. While I'm not keen on returning, it at least made a fan out of him. Important thing to note about the menu, specifically the skewers: be careful about the pricing. The wording on the menu is, frankly, nonsensical, but what it's trying to say is that the skewers are one price if you order less than a particular number of them, and a different price if you order more than a certain number of them. We didn't figure this out until after we'd already placed our order and they'd started grilling the meat, but we ended up with a slightly bigger bill than we intended. We of course didn't argue -- as Judge Judy always says, we ate the steak -- but the vague, terrible language of that part of the menu left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended).
