Not sure if I just ordered the wrong item, but based off of the reviews I was very excited to try this spot out. They have a pretty good menu from sushi, rice bowls, and ramen and the prices are actually not bad for the Bay Area. The service was pretty quick, but I can see how it can get crowded very quickly based on the small space. The person who took my order was also making the rolls. I ordered the Samurai roll and like others have mentioned the sushi sizes are great, but the roll had NO flavor. I was very disappointed and sadly will not return.

I was looking for somewhere to grab a snack and came across Joy Sushi while shopping at Target. Decided to grab their Egg & Spam Musubi which was about $8 for two pieces. At first, I thought the service was slow and wondered what was taking them so long - I didn't realize that they were making it fresh! It was delicious and 100% worth the wait. Not sure what sauce it comes with but it's perfect for dipping and not overly sweet. I personally got take out but they also have a dine in section with a good amount of seating available. :)

I got takeout from Joy Sushi. It was ready pretty quick, which was very nice. It's a smaller location right next to the Target. Pricing was very competitive and slightly lower than many other places I've seen. The salmon on the Lion King was a bit firmer than I'm used to but it was still tasty.

Okay so first I want to thank joy sushi for trying to accommodate my medical inability to eat rice. They made my rolls without it for me, and I know it can be difficult to do. But they tried! And they were really sweet about it. Their service was some of the best I have had when it comes to my food restrictions. So it makes me sad when I say, the food looked bimb, but just was not good. My Lambada roll was so salty (the crab was salty) so I wasn't able to dip it soy sauce or it made it eye twitchingly saltier. My wife ordered two rolls. While one look amazing, it was just lacking in flavor. The other roll she had was deep fried with tempura batter. It was MASSIVE it size. But once she tried to pick it up, it literally looked like it deflated. It went flat and she had to use a plastic for (all that was available) to eat it. We purchased a canned soda from their cold case since the soda fountain was out of order, the soda still, wasn't very cold and we were handed small thin white plastic cups to pour our soda into to share. Again no ice since the fountain was broken. There was no music and they had maybe a total of 5 tables to use to dine so the one obnoxious family (not establishments fault) that was there, were sooo loud. It made even much more unenjoyable. I am sorry Joy Sushi, I wish this was a better experience. I almost feel bad, because you can see that they try really hard.

I've been a fan of Joy Sushi since first going to their San Mateo location back in 2011. They've always had good sized portions (rolls and entrees) and their prices can't be beat! When they opened a location at Bayfair Mall, I was ecstatic to see an affordable fast casual Japanese spot open in the area. It seems like the owner is a woman, and she runs the entire show. Kudos to her! It's not easy running a business in this area of San Leandro. I've been witness to a little riffraff here and there. All that aside, the food is consistently good the 2 times I've been here. The fish they use for sushi rolls is fresh, and I appreciate that they offer more than just your usual bento boxes and rolls. They also have Korean tteokkbokki among other options.

First time here and this place wasn't bad. I like it but I didn't get sushi. I went with the bento box with 2 sides. I had the fried rice, macaroni salad with chicken katsu and spicy chicken. First off, the spicy chicken was full of flavor which made me want more extra sides to it like maybe some veggies. Chicken katsu was crispy. My reaction from the crunch was ohhhh this is good! Way better than a Hawaiian bbq spot. Next time I need to try the sushi! Ohh and the cashier lady was very nice too. When eating in, I'm all about the service and the quality of the food. This place did not disappoint at all and I will be back!

I got a sizable order from Joy Sushi and had door dash deliver. I got the tempura shrimp, sweet and crunchy chicken , a large rice and large salad. Everything was excellent . The food was fresh and yummy . Give this place a try you will be glad you did. Bon appétit

They've changed how they make their rolls. It's mostly just rice now and very little of the filling inside the maki rolls.

We had an appetizer, two rolls, one regular salad and one seaweed salad - I particularly like the seaweed salad with the sesame seed oil you haven't had it, you should try it. The appetizer is great. You can see many pictures of it in the other reviews and enjoy the roles as well. Service was good. We came in at the end of their lunchtime, and they were pushing to get us served and out, maybe a little to much. It's a little bit of a hole in a wall, but a good one - give it a try if you're thinking about it.

Portions on the boxes were plentiful and the rolls were decent sized. Spent about 200 (including tip) on 8 people (each getting an item) not bad. Only problem was that I did put instructions on a couple items and they were overlooked (make spicy) so I went inside to get spicy mayo on the side. I could tell why they didn't answer - it was packed! The staff was doing a great job at pumping out orders for to-go and dine-in. Food was good. Service was food. The added .5 stars definitely has to be that they didn't forget an item.

MY FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT…read more I wish I could gatekeep but it's just too good! Amazing sushi, fresh fish with so many great options on the AYCE menu. The ratio of rice to fish for their nigiri is on point. You can actually enjoy the fish without getting full off rice. Their omakase box is delicious. For the AYCE sushi restaurant, it was good but not exactly mind-blowing. The fish and seafood variety didn't taste like the freshest quality, and after a while, a lot of the rolls started tasting the same. For around $45 AYCE, I personally think there are better options out there. Some of the skewers came out burnt. Takoyaki was 1/5, you can skip on taht. But that being said, the service was really good. The lady serving us was super friendly and attentive, and overall the staff was kind and welcoming. However, there was only one other table besides ours at the time, so I'm not sure how service would be during peak hours. Now the cafe side, I loved it. The vibe made me feel like I wasn't even in Hayward. The sandos were really good, and the matcha looked amazing. I'd definitely come back for the cafe experience alone. My biggest concern though is the elevator situation. It wasn't working during our visit, and I heard it hasn't been working for quite a while. It honestly made me wonder how elderly or mobility-impaired guests are supposed to dine there. That definitely seems like something that needs attention.
