I've had the salmon sashimi here a couple times, and both times, it was great - fresh, high quality, and with generous portion sizes compared to other restaurants (you get 12 pieces of sashimi in a single order here, whereas other restaurants usually give you 8-10 for a similar price). My partner had the bento box with spicy chicken, salmon teriyaki, and salmon sashimi. He said the salmon teriyaki was a bit dry, and he wasn't fond of the spicy chicken. I had a bite of the spicy chicken and didn't like it, either - it tasted strongly of gochujang, which was odd for something coming from a Japanese restaurant. Overall, the salmon sashimi makes Joy Sushi well worth a trip back, and next time I'll branch out and try some of their rolls. For a lunch bento, either try different options than we did or perhaps pick a different restaurant. read more

Came here for dinner last weekend with my partner and child. The place is small with space for about 4 small tables in the seating area. There are some chairs by the entryway for those ordering takeout. Overall, the food was good. The tempura was light and crispy but one of the rolls that had unagi did not have the filet properly deboned. The price is relative to the area which is next to wing stop and Hawaiian food near the Target at Bayfair mall. I would go back if I was in the area. The bento box was a good deal. I definitely over-ordered so I would suggest getting a bento and splitting a roll or two if you're on a budget. We had the fried + stuffed jalapeños appetizer, two bentos, and two rolls. Let me start by saying, I only eat COOKED sushi. So that's what this is. It's my first time eating here. I ordered the Joy Scallop Roll, Ebi Heaven Roll, mixed tempura & Baked Mussels. As far as cooked sushi goes, this is superb! Quality, portions and flavor is damn good! Wrapped well, didn't fall apart too bad. The mixed tempura, to no surprise, is mostly vegetable. Not the good ones either... yams, onions, potatoes and mushrooms? Like wtf! Not to mention the breading was so thick, greasy and tasteless! To end on a positive note, the mussels are good as hell too. Fresh and not over seasoned. Overall I'll give them a 4 out of 5 stars. For the price I'd say the quality and portions are great. Most places the portions are tiny bite sizes but this is a mouth full - tastes like sushi house in Alameda. I ordered the Lion King roll and the salmon was SO tender and the roll melted in mouth. I also order the Raider roll it has shrimp tempura, soft shell crab, unagi & cucumber inside topped with unagi on the top & unagi sauce so delicious and huge roll. Was in the mood to try a new sushi spot for me and my husband, and we sadly ended up not being fans. There is sssssoooo much rice in the rolls. Sashimi was a little stringy. Not the worst sushi we've ever had, but there are better places for us for the same money. I've seen this shop around for a few months now and finally got to try it. The person who took my order was super nice and friendly. I wasn't familiar with the menu since it was my first time and she patiently guided me through it. I ordered a katsu donburi, samurai roll, and dragon roll. They also included miso soup and edamame on the house. I couldn't be happier with the service. The rolls were HUGE! They are generous with their portion for sure. The samurai roll was loaded with crab, and the sauce was delicious. The dragon roll was stuffed with eel and crab and loaded with big pieces of salmon. Not the best dragon roll I've had but still delicious. The katsu donburi wasn't my favorite. Just like the rolls, the katsu piece was really big. However I found it a bit dry and lacking in flavor. Usually this place is 5 stars but they have a young Mexican guy that didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. He just laughed when the boss tried to teach him. My favorite one is Drunken Dragon: the combination of tuna and salmon as well as shrimp tempura is perfect with the sauce (not to mention how cool it looks!!). Tips: 1. Grand opening: 15% off if you check in on Yelp! 2. Located right next to Target, you can go shopping while waiting for your order. (It took ~15 minutes for my order to be ready) 3. Came by during a Target run. At 1pm and having not eaten anything all day, stopped in Joy King next door to order their Joy King (aka Lion King) and Raiders rolls. Ten minutes later, scarfed down most of the rolls sitting in the car with my son in the Pickup car spots out front. Love the big pieces of salmon baked on top of the Joy King! Nothing worth noting about these rolls though. I've had better! Maybe I'll go back and try their hand rolls. Plenty of parking in a shopping plaza, but don't expect VIP as the area gets really busy most hrs of the day, but I mainly come here around lunch time to shop. read more

Sushi: 4/5 The prices are pretty affordable and their rolls are quite big, so it's a pretty good deal. I ordered the Spicy Scallop Roll, California Roll and Sake Roll for my boyfriend and I. The filling to rice ratio of their California Rolls was pretty off, there was way too much rice for me so I ended up taking half the rice off of each roll. Overall the sushi was good for the price point. The cashier also offered me some miso soup for free which was nice. Tempura: 2/5 The tempura was pretty disappointing. The outside of the tempura was kind of tough and chewy and didn't have that light crispy texture that I've had at other Japanese restaurants. The portion was also quite small and the vegetables were kind of random, there was a broccoli and onion ring which wasn't what I expected. Service 3.5/5 The staff is really friendly, however they seem like they are still getting trained so it may take a while for them to prepare your order. I ordered over the phone for pickup and was told that the order would be ready in 40 minutes. I arrived at the shop ~5 min early to pay and ended up waiting an additional ~35 minutes for my order. I'm allergic to sesame seeds so over the phone I requested that they put no sesame seeds on my order. I think I overhead the kitchen say they messed up my order (put sesame seeds on possibly?) so they had to remake it. This is a recurring problem I have when ordering sushi and is quite frustrating since I have to wait double the time for my food. I forgive them because they were pretty kind but I hope they pay more attention to orders for those with food allergies in the future. read more

I choose the fried tofu and cucumber roll, and it is more like an Americanized fusion restaurant. Saw this place pop up on Yelp as hot and new, decided to try it. Placed my order via Grub Hub and order was ready in about 20 mins or so. Parking can be difficult as it is near Bayfair Target. Went in, Plexiglas separate the wait staff and customers, hand sanitizer available and staff all wearing mask. Picked up my order and the wait staff encourage me to order from their own website as it would be cheaper and also would be faster if I were to pick up instead of having it delivered. Will have to remember that for next time. .... we had spicy scallop hand roll, the ebi heaven roll, the nigiri mix dinner and the bento box. The rolls were decent size and good fillings in them. The spicy scallop hand roll was definitely surprising, they use the big scallops and not the tiny scallops to make it, it was solid but I would've preferred to have a it more tobiko in that mix. The nigiri sushi set was good, very fresh and a nice selection of the nigiri. The bento boxes are ok, I normally don't go for it but my family does. We ordered the Lambada roll, Tiger roll, salad and large sashimi platter on a Sunday evening via Grubhub. The food arrived fast, perfect temperature and packaged to prevent spills. The bags were sealed to prevent tampering. We asked for extra condiments and received a lot. The fish was all very fresh and wonderfully tasty! The rolls were large and the sashimi was nice sized pieces (our other sushi place shrunk down the size of sashimi slices so we were surprised!) Came across this place while my mom wanted to try something new nearby, and let me tell you IT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE. As of writing this review, there aren't many other reviews and pictures, but don't let the pictures fool you. The rolls look great and smell amazing in person. Really happy this spot has opened up! I along with another family stumbled here without realizing that they close at 6pm on Sundays. The cashier still welcomed us in and there were marked signs for social distancing (love this because some need the assistance). First thought was - kinda expensive. But, once I got my order I realized that they are generous with portion. I got a sunshine roll (fresh and yummy) and I can't remember the second one (had asparagus and eel in it). The second sushi was good, but not something i'd likely order again unless i was sharing it with someone else. Store is clean and the wait time is accurate. Service was nice too! I think this is a great addition to this area. First and last time ordering from Joy sushi. I had high expectations for this place due to the reviews but for me this place does not meet my standards. The rolls looked very appetizing from afar until you analyze the rolls after you eat one. The rice was so vinegary and sweet and then you get some skimped fish topped off with cheap imitation crab to make it more appealing. Also, the salmon skin hand roll was super weird to me... their version was not my style at all.
