We've been constantly seeing this place but never stopped by, and we're so glad we finally did. We had the best experience and truly loved it. We spoke with the business owner, and he attended us very well, very welcoming and friendly. I think this place is very underrated. We loved the chicken and beef ramen, and I personally enjoyed the sushi and shrimp as well. We even got a beer or two and really enjoyed our time. The restaurant itself has a very traditional theme, which makes the whole experience feel authentic. We will definitely be coming back and look forward to bringing our friends and family next time! ‍‍‍

I saw a lot of bad reviews before coming here, but honestly... I'm glad I didn't listen The service was great and the food was 100% worth it. Sometimes you just have to try things for yourself--reviews can be hit or miss. I'd definitely recommend this place, especially if you're new. Don't let the comments scare you, just come in, eat, and decide for yourself... worst case, you had a meal. Best case, you find your new favorite spot

Had an excellent experience coming down here for lunch, dropped in on a whim and was so glad I did Sam was friendly, accommodating, and amazing in getting me sat and tending to my orders. The ramen was delicious and the spicy tuna roll was a great way to close it out Definitely worth getting down here and making lunch or dinner plans!

The restaurant has very good presentations for sushi and sashimi. 2 sushi chefs work there now and 1 or 2 Cookers probably, The California roll is so flavored and fresh crab meat and assorted sashimi platter10 pc has 5-6 kinds of fish or seasonal seafood. A Great choice

Drove by it the other day and saw the "Ramen" sign. So had to tr it out today. Got the Tonkotsu Ramen and it had really great flavor. Not only it was good but the staff/owner there were super friendly and made me feel really comfortable being there by myself. Will be my new spot for my ramen fix for sure.

Really unfortunate experience. We came here just before 6 and waited 20 minutes before we were rushed out the door. We really wanted to give this place a try especially because it's a low-key casual mom and pop establishment. We offered to separate our group into two but that wasn't doable either. The party of two who came in after us ended up being seated. The server originally told us it'll be a long wait which we were okay with... So we weren't expected to be kicked out.. there wasn't any compromises either because half of us could've stayed to eat while the other half could've gone elsewhere. Anyway, this review is really just for the experience. The one good thing is they have a small parking lot!

The freshest fishes. Really love the salmon rolls. So fresh so tasty. Their Ramen is good and flavorful too

I Can't Believe it's been 14 years since I have last Eaten at Wakamatsu!!!! lol It's still a Hole In The Wall!!! It's still a Down Low Place!!! It still has its own Parking Lot!!!! And It's still owned by Joey San and his Wife!!! For the Last 40 years!!!! Imagine a Sushi Restaurant Owned by a Japanese Chef how cool is that!!!! When I entered Wakamatsu it was like entering a Time Warp!!! The place hasn't changed a bit lol!!! Service is still very Friendly and kind!!! Joey San Wife is one of the Waitress !!! Food is Basic Japanese and Quality is Good !!! I ordered a Wakematsu Special Bento Box !!! It Consisted of Beef Teriyaki Vegetable Tempura Chicken Katsu Miso Soup Sashimi Seaweed And a Salad !!! I also ordered Agedashi Tofu!!!! Food was Basic but nicely Executed!!! Ingredients were Fresh and Tasty!!! Prices are Reasonable and Fair !!! This is a Baller On A Budget Approved Establishment!!! I will return!!!

Cozy space for fresh sushi and friendly service. The spicy tuna roll was on point, as well as the seaweed salad. Hope to have dinner again here when I am back in town. Reasonable prices.

It is a traditional Japanese restaurant operating with an old couple. Please be patient and enjoy their hard work. I love the soup, fried tofu, tempura and sushi. I will be back to try out other foods.

What a great place with lovely owners. The husband and wife run this restaurant together; they are so cute! The prices here are super reasonable if you're craving sushi or bento. I came here for their lunch special bento from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. You can choose two items, which come with miso soup, rice, and salad for $12. I picked beef teriyaki and gyoza. Everything tasted good and would definitely come here again because of the value and service.

A very cozy and humble spot that I wish I discovered sooner having lived near the area all my life. The service was very kind and gave genuine smiles and the sashimi and rice tasted very delicious and fresh. I will be back :)

I got to try firefly squid for the first time which has a short 1 month season. All the appetizers were unique, tasty, and beautifully presented. After 6 appetizers we got 8 nigiris and all tasted delicious. Wasabi was grated right in front of us. Not a lot of fatty cuts but each piece was so soft and tender. My favorites were the salmon, lean tuna, and otoro. We also ordered the rosy seabass from the supplement menu and it's the fattiest and most tender white fish i've ever had. Also so pleasantly surprised by the castella tamago which was made out of black tiger prawn, yam, and egg. It had an insane is-it-egg-or-cake flavor and texture. Restaurant is small with a cozy and intimate vibe. Service is top notch. Overall it was such a great meal and great night. This is prob the best omakase i've had in the bay

The restaurant is cute inside and definitely got the Japanese decors and vibe that makes the experience better. It is quite a small restaurant that can sit probably 16ish people capacity. Service was very attentive and friendly as expected. It is a fixed menu style and the food serving size is just okay because I expect something a bit more. I do find the food taste is bland and certain dishes are just okay. Food taste and quality is below my expectation for a somewhat expensive price tag comparing to what's served. The miso black cod was bland, the eel over rice was just nah, and the mackerel nigiri was super fishy. We didn't finish some of the nigiri even though there were only 6 of them total served. We added Otoro for extra $18 a piece and it was good (I mean how could you go wrong with Otoro?!) a bit too fatty of a cut so torching it make it better. We got a bottle of their sake and it was pretty good. I am disappointed because I am really hoping CV could have more great quality restaurants. Glad to give it a try though to cross off a list.

I eat here weekly if not daily some weeks, lol because the fish is top quality ALWAYS! I am so grateful it is near my home. They have a point program so I am often granted $10 off my orders. I used them for a NYE gathering and chose some of my favs. Cherry blossom, spicy tuna, lion king and rock n roll are some I recommend but honestly they are ALL excellent. They have a restaurant in Berkeley too but I have never been. The Castro Valley market place has a good deal of seating and parking. They used to allow outside seating but apparently the adjacent owner never learned how to share in kindergarten and took them to court and won I suppose -because now they do not have outside seating. Kinda dumb-you would think the dude would want to stimulate our economy as everyone one benefits. The male ego always baffles me, cutting off the nose etc. (another topic, sigh). The CVM tables inside are large and clean and the temp is controlled as well. You will be tempted by the other offerings inside like the bakery, butcher, insanely good pizza, beard papa yummys and upstairs Puerto Rican food and Pho. Go here if you like sushi and you will NOT regret it! Tell them Cheri sent you! They know me!

The interior has that classic, old-school Asian restaurant vibe, almost bordering on a tiki bar feel. I'd heard about Genghix from locals for a long time, and now I understand the appeal. We started with the chicken lettuce cups and seared butterfish--both were excellent, and our 11-year-old especially loved the lettuce cups. For entrées, we ordered seafood Pad Thai, chicken fried rice, honey walnut prawns, Mongolian chicken, and steamed rice. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and easily held its own against some of our go-to spots. We had plenty of leftovers and they tasted great for lunch the next day. Overall, it was a really enjoyable meal, and we're already planning to go back and explore more of the menu. It's extensive and can feel a bit overwhelming, but if you're in the mood for Japanese, Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese cuisine, you'll definitely find something that hits the spot.

The sushi was also on point-fresh, well made, and gone way too fast. And the appetizers? Honestly, too many to even list, but every one we tried hit.
