Red curry with fried tofu and rice
    Juicke C.

New Year's Day lunch in CV. Surprisingly there are a few places open for lunch on this day. Luckily, my favorite local Thai restaurant is open today. This is my version of Cheers where the wait person knows me and my usual dishes I order. It has been cold and rainy and I'm getting over a cold so my go soup is Tom Yum with chicken. The sour tangy taste helps my sinus and I enjoy that flavoring. For my entree was the red curry with fried tofu. Like the soup, I can drink the curry by itself. I really enjoy curry. Just curry over rice could be enough for me. Together with the lunch entree comes salad and drink, Thai ice tea. Always pleasant and enjoyable dining experience.

As an Asian girl who eats a lot of Thai food, this restaurant is superb! The ingredients used were fresh and authentic. You can taste the love in the food and feel the coziness throughout the restaurant! Great prices and portions. The ambience is like dining at your grandmothers house. Chill and comfortable dinner spot. Parking in the back! I'm from SF but will be back whenever we pass through the East Bay!

Super affordable hole-in-the-wall Thai spot that I found while looking for lunch specials in the area. Tried the lunch yellow curry which only comes with the entree, white rice, and surprisingly a drink: Thai iced tea or a Thai coffee. Wish it came with a side salad or soup instead of the free drink, but for $12ish, I can't complain too much. Curry was flavorful, not the best I've had, and could have used more protein, but I was satisfied and finished everything. Service was friendly, ambiance is a converted house into a restaurant-- charming but not upscale by any means.

Delicious with very fair prices! Came here for lunch on a weekend and it wasn't crowded, so we got seated immediately. We got thai tea, chicken satay for appetizer, pad Thai, and red curry with pumpkin. All the items from the lunch menu were very affordable and the portions were good. We were so stuffed and took the leftover food.

The price hasn't changed in years thank you big portions with a salad and drink during lunch this is my favorite Thai place in Castro Valley. I ordered one Thai tea and one Thai iced coffee but got two Thai teas instead I will have to try the coffee another day :' (

The Pad Thai cuisine at this small restaurant in Castro Valley was quite good. While the place isn't fancy, it can accommodate a maximum of 35-40 people and lacks outdoor seating. The service was decent. We tried the vegetable spring rolls, basil stir-fry tofu, and Pad Thai noodles, all of which had generous portion sizes and tasted delicious.

Best kept secret for great Thai food. Limited hours so check before going. Moderate prices and fresh ingredients .

Longevity in the restaurant business is tough so when looking for a place to add to my takeout list as a new resident to Castro Valley, I had to give this place a try. I have been in Castro Valley for about 7 months now and have gotten take out from here at least 5 times and every single time, my wife and I have been greeted and treated with love by the owners. Were there a few times where I had to wait a little while longer because of how busy they were or issues in the kitchen? Of course yes, stuff like that happens. I am a patient and understanding person. What is always consistent is the warmth that the owner just seems to emit, it must be the Thai culture and personality as having traveled to Thailand more than a handful of times, I felt the the love from the people. Now for the food. We usually order pad see eww, crab fried rice, angel wings and a few currys. The food always comes super hot and delicious, havent had a bad experience yet with the food. Honestly, what keeps me coming back is the lady that runs the place, I adore her and the love she treats people with.

Definitely generous and more than enough for one person, with plenty of noodles, chicken, and toppings packed into the dish. It's a solid value if you're looking to get full without spending too much. That said, the flavor didn't quite hit the mark for me. The pad thai leaned noticeably on the sweeter side, to the point where it overpowered the savory and tangy elements you'd typically expect from this dish. I was hoping for a better balance between the tamarind, fish sauce, and lime, but the sweetness kind of dominated each bite. The chicken itself was okay. Nothing particularly standout, but cooked fine and mixed throughout. The Thai tea that came with the lunch special was decent and a nice touch. It had that classic creamy, sweet flavor and paired well with the meal, even if the overall sweetness of everything combined was a bit much. Service was smooth and quick, which is always a plus during lunch hours, and the setting was casual and comfortable enough for a quick meal. Overall, I'd say it's an average experience. Great portions and value, but the execution on the pad thai could use some balance. I'd be open to coming back and trying other dishes to see if they're less sweet and more in line with traditional flavors.

My partner and I usually come for the basic comfort items like Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew, Lao Sausage, and/or their sampler. Occasionally we'd get their papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, or other entrees to share, but I do feel that they don't execute those dishes as well as the basics we frequently return for. I may be critiquing them harder than others on their papaya salad and Nam Khao because my mom does it best (no bias...). However, their portions are large and the flavors are great all around. I think they do some items better than others, but I have yet to be disappointed by any of their food. It's always great to try something new on the menu and be pleasantly surprised. But aside from the food, the customer service and ambiance encourages us to come back every time. They're kind, patient, and attentive all around. Whether we're just picking up food, dining in at peak times or during the quiet hours, they always deliver a great experience. Their dining room is fairly large and they have a softer lighting that compliments that TLC decor well. Through and through, Chai Thai is consistent and reliable.
