A favorite for Vietnamese food in the area that's for sure. Can't wait til they open their new location soon. Even tho it won't be in CV..I don't mind driving to the Stack. Was feeling under the weather after a week of traveling so I decided to take a trip to my favorite pho spot, pho auntie 7. My bf and I came an hour before closing and it was packed, but were able to get a seat as soon as we walked in. They have plenty of seating for large groups or smaller parties. The food here never disappoints! Ordered the large rare beef pho with extra beef on the side, the shrimp spring rolls and the fried potstickers. The pho is the best I've ever had. The broth is flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The soup is packed with meat and noodles. The spring rolls are fresh, the ingredients they use really make a difference in quality of the food. The fried potstickers are crunchy and delicious and the sauce they paired it with was sweet and balanced the flavor of the potstickers. Even though it was busy, the kitchen was quick and we had our food within minutes of ordering. This place has so much more than pho, I'll be back to try more from their extensive menu! read more

I love the chicken salad here. I am allergic to sesame so I always order it without dressing. Normally a salad without dressing is bland and gross, but this chicken salad is flavorful and a nice experience to eat even without dressing. They're not stingy with the chicken either, it's totally loaded up. The spring rolls with shrimp are also good, they're generous with the sauce when you do takeout. My husband and I had free time without the kids so we opted for pho and went during lunch time on a Tuesday. The parking lot is small and shared with a convenience store, so if it's full you'd have to find street parking. The place itself is a decent size. There were a few people in there already but we were seated right away. Ordered the nem roll which was delightful and refreshing. And the dipping sauce went well with it. The pho broth was good. The meat is sliced pretty thin but they give a good portion even for a regular size. They even have a kids menu which is convenient. Pho places with a number in their names are usually a safe pick. It stood true for Pho Auntie 7. I ordered their bun bo hue. Their broth wasn't the best I've had but I wouldn't say it's bland like some of the other reviews I've read. They included shrimp paste on the side so I'm wondering if they didnt add it to the broth in case I wouldn't like it. Anyway, the saving grace was the definitely amount of meat and tendon they put in. I felt like there was meat every time I went for the noodles. A bit iffy about the prices though ($8.50 for viet egg coffee?!?!). Service could've been a little bit better. No one came back after we got our food and we have to wait awhile to pay. On the flip side I can say it's good they're not rushing people out the door after they're done eating. read more

Good Vietnamese option. I've gotten to eat from here a few times whenever I'm in the area, had gotten it pretty regularly. Egg rolls were good, albeit pricey. The pho options were nice too, my brother and SIL enjoyed it. I'm a fan of the rice dishes and the vermicelli dishes, but again, pricey for $19.25. It's a good option when I'm there, but it makes me miss the prices I get to see in the South Bay Area. But the food is pretty solid; there wasn't a time where the food didn't taste good. I can't comment on the service or the inside as we always order to go, but my bro did mention the lady had a snippy attitude one time when he came to pick up the order. 4.5 stars Who would've thought that you could find authentic central Vietnamese cuisine in Castro Valley? Pho Auntie 7 (named after an auntie that's the 7th kid in a family of 13) is a casual spot with hard-to-find dishes like Banh Beo, steamed ramekins of chewy rice cakes that came in two different versions: a dry version topped with dried shrimp flakes & mung beans, and a wet version topped with a slurry sauce of shrimp, pork, and chive. The Banh Hoi were thin woven rice noodle bundles, served with grilled pork, sugarcane shrimp, and sausage meatballs, along with peanuts, fried shallots, and fish sauce. The meats were all done to perfection--the marinated pork was nicely caramelized, and the sugarcane shrimp and meatballs were juicy and flavorful. The Banh Cuon (one of my personal favorites for their chewy, slithery texture) were chewy steamed rice noodle rolls with a filling of ground chicken, jicama, and wood-ear mushrooms, topped with slices of cha lua (Vietnamese ham), and served with bean sprouts, fried shallots, and fish sauce. The Baby Clams was a pile of tiny clams stir-fried with lemongrass and onion, and served with large sheets of crunchy sesame rice crackers. Finally, a highlight dish was the Mi Quang, a noodle soup made of chewy yellow turmeric noodles in a savory, slightly spicy broth, served with a caramelized prawn, egg, pork slices, peanuts, and sesame rice cracker sheets for crunch. Lemon grass tofu was unexpectedly good but a real grease fest, consider that a warning for those who cannot indulge in that. The pho was HUGE and not in the nice way. Maybe because it was vegan? *shrug* Anyway the broth was bland, the tofu was the hugest slice of tofu Ive ever laid eyes on in any pho bowl. It scared me a little. After 6 hours of straight shopping I was hangry! This spot has been bookmarked forever and glad I finally got to try some Vietnamese food near home. Parking is a bit hectic but I found a spot on the street since the lot was full. Our waitress came and took our order and we were bought ice waters to our table. On the menu: Banh hoi Lemongrass tofu Nuoc mia Banh hoi was a big portion. The grilled pork was very tender and flavorful. The pork meatballs were really delicious and I avoided the shrimp since I'm allergic. The tofu was a bit tough and chewy but the flavor was there. I've been to Pho Auntie 7 a few times and it's pretty high quality in terms of the service and food. Here's what I've tried: Beef Pho (Pho Tai Chin): I rarely get beef pho, but when I do crave it, I want it to hit, and PA7 delivers. The broth is amazing, and rivals some of the top places in the South Bay. The meat quality is tender and they give a good amount. Highly reccomended. 8.5 out of 10 Chicken Pho (Pho Ga): The pho ga here is good, but on the sweeter side than what I usually prefer. It's good, but you'd need to crave a sweeter pho broth than say, Pho Ha Noi or Pho Dao in the South Bay (my gold standards). The chicken is high quality, and they give a good amount. 7.8 out of 10 Grilled Chicken Rice Plate: Ok, this one I wasn't a huge fan of this very lemongrass-forward bbq chicken. I thought the chicken was tender, but the lemongrass flavor just wasn't great here for some reason. Even the pickled veggies were a miss - tasted quite bitter aftertaste. The saving grace was the egg roll - it was bomb. 5.8 out of 10. Spring Rolls (Nam Nueng): Super good grilled pork spring rolls. Did not care for the orange pork dipping sauce, so we got a side of peanut sauce which was really good. 7.5 out of 10. Bahn Mi with Grilled Pork: So good! The bread is not rock hard, but rather soft and fresh tasting, almost like it was house-made, or at least fresh. The pork was tender, the veggies were fresh and plentiful. Overall, a premium tasting bahn mi if you're used to cheap $7 ones from quick chains (which are still good for the price, dont get me wrong) but this one is premium tasting all around. Kind of reminds me of the bahn mis from Dino's in SF, which is a fav of mine as well. 9 out of 10 During busy peak times, there can be a bit of a wait (maybe 10-20 minutes) but it moves pretty fast and the servers clean tables super fast when people finish. This place is worth the hype, but with a few caveats! We will be back, but probably just for the beef pho or bahn mi for me. read more

My boyfriend and I came here back in December when I was 3 months pregnant. I was so hungry and was looking forward to eating the grilled pork vermicelli noodle. However, I did not like how the grilled pork was marinated and did not even finish my food. There was also a cleaning cart next to our table the whole time and we could smell bleach. Stopped by for dinner last night with the fam and we agreed this place was just ok. The place is easy to find however did have a bit of challenge finding parkings. The restaurant is right next to a liquor shop and both shared a small run down lot (8-10 parkings total). We got seated immediately and not crowded at all giving its dinner time. Food came pretty quick and service was attentive. We also ordered 2 bowls of Oxtails pho - oxtails were soft and tender but taste overall was just ok. We had better definitely elsewhere. It comes with a tub of sauce and the rolls were cut in half. The Nem Nuong Cuon were good and everyone at the party liked it as well. However, this doesn't come close to Brodards. And, before yall come for me, I understand the jist of a kids meal being just for kids. But I've honestly rarely run into this issue before. I have a pretty small appetite and I like my pho pretty plain - just soup, noodles, and chicken. So I asked if I could just get a plain kids pho, which also happens to be about half the price of the regular size version. But our server said no :( So our bill came out to $40 for a plain regular chicken pho, Thai tea, and a pork crepe. On August 13, 2025, there was a fire in the attic of the Pho Auntie 7 restaurant. The business has since stated, "We are working hard to either reopen at same spot or open a new place near Castro Valley." I have been to 80%+ of all Vietnamese restaurants in San Leandro, Castro Valley, and San Lorenzo, and Pho Auntie 7 is easily one of the top three. Maybe it was the depth of flavor or a bit more richness that I was hoping for. The shop itself is much bigger than it looks from the outside, which was a pleasant surprise.
