Cute little restaurant, across the street from Joe's. Came here because we heard they had Bo Ne, which we usually have to go down to San Jose to eat. This is definitely a newer generation, trendier place than the usual Viet restaurant. It was reasonably busy when we came on a Wednesday, but still plenty of open tables. - sweeter, tomato based sauce - more focus on a variety of meats, including a meatball, a sweet pineapple sausage, and some small slices of ham - steak is not precut into slices so it was a little hard to eat with chopsticks - egg was already fully cooked when the plate was brought out sizzling, so I couldn't dip my bread in the yolk - no onions (the regular breakfast plate had some with the beef, but the filet mignon version did not)

Food is improved quite a bit. Fried chicken still isn't great but the BBH is a lot better. Just missing lemongrass and pork foot. I'm now looking forward to their beef stew.

Came here for dinner one night over the weekend. The restaurant had plenty of seating and there was no wait for table or food. There was lively Vietnamese music playing in the backgrounds. The restaurant had a wide variety of pho, bahn mi, rice plates, sizzling plates, Vietnamese coffee, and matcha drinks on its menu. We tried the pho - the soup was really good, and the bahn mi bo kho - the soup was also really good as well and went well with the baguette. I want to try the bo ne and Vietnamese coffee here in the future.

Came here unplanned just was craving pho! Very clean environment. The service was great, quick and attentive. I ordered the brisket pho and shrimp tempura. Everything came out in good time and it was a very filling meal. I will definitely be back if i am back in the area

Easy parking and clean restaurant. Service was fast. First time here with my husband. We ordered the shrimp and pork rolls. The rolls had pork belly inside, which was a nice surprise. It was fresh and delicious with the peanut dipping sauce... yum. My husband ordered the BO NE or Vietnamese Breakfast skillet. He enjoyed all the meats. However, the sauce was a little too sweet. It came with a fresh baguette and side salad. A complete meal. I ordered their grilled pork with egg roll and shrimp. The portion was huge. The nuoc mum was very good and everything satisfied my cravings. I recommend this restaurant. They serve authentic Vietnamese food.

More like 3.5 stars but going down to 3 because I found the broth of the short rib pho to be almost inedible. I ordered the short rib pho and was looking forward to it because it was advertised as an "18 hour" broth. However it tasted nothing like that...all I tasted was msg and some faint spices. Very disappointed! Even after adding the juice from 3 lemons I could not drink any of the soup. Definitely sticking to pho seven or R&D cafe. Also the short rib was meaty but most of the meat was overcooked and chewy. My husband got the vermicelli bowl and said it was ok.

Saigon Yum opened recently 5 months ago where Roti Indian cuisine was. Interior renovated from a buffet setting to a dine in eatery. Many tables for dining in. Large mural on far wall depicting street scene in Vietnam. Offerings: appetizers, pho, banh mi, dyi beef noodle soup, kid's menu, Bo kho, appetizers, vermicelli, smoothies, drinks. Some categories have only 2 options. Pho & banh mi have the most choices. Bites: house combo banh mi (9.50) take out. -quick courteous service at counter. order seamlessly, efficiently processed. Got food in 7ish minutes. -6"+ baguette filled with mostly pork belly, head cheese, pork loin proteins. Not overloaded with daikon, carrot shreds, cilantro, jalepeno slices. -baguette was crunchy fresh. Flavas a nuanced mix of spicy, sweet, savory, & tart notes. 4ish stars (banh mi only): Worthy. quality: good amount of proteins, fresh veggies. Quantity: reasonable pricing... Note: small parking lot. Full during peak hours.

I had such a great experience here! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We originally planned to dine in but had to switch to takeout last minute, and they made the change so easy. The food came out really fast, too! The space itself is adorable! lots of natural light, cute wall decorations, plenty of plants, and a nice mix of booths and tables. Definitely a place I'd love to come back to for dine-in next time. Food-wise, everything was delicious. I loved that they offer a build-your-own pho perfect for picky pho lovers like me who want specific meats. The broth was light yet flavorful, and they give a generous amount of noodles and meat. We also tried the breakfast skillet with sausage, egg, and a toasted roll. It was so tasty, perfectly seasoned, and not greasy at all. I also ordered a fresh young coconut, and it was the actual coconut! It was super refreshing and sweet, and after I finished drinking it, they cracked it open so I could eat the coconut meat which was such a nice touch. Prices are a bit higher for the area and compared to the city and we get the same amount of food but that's the only thing I could see making it better. Overall, Saigon Yum totally lives up to its name everything was yummy! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

    Bun Bo hue (terrible)
    Billy L.

I saw the ad for Saigon Yum's grand opening on Facebook and waited about a week to give them time to settle in before trying it out. I came in around 12:30 for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty aside from what looked like friends of the owner. One of the servers I recognized from Pho Seven down the street, where I usually go for bun bo hue. I originally wanted to try the bun rieu but was told it was not available yet, which confused me since they open at 10am. I took a few minutes to decide and ended up ordering the bun bo hue. The veggie plate that came out first only had bean sprouts, jalapeño, Vietnamese coriander, and a lemon. No mint or any other herbs, which the server confirmed they do not carry. When the soup arrived, the broth immediately tasted different from what I'm used to. The bbh here really missed the mark. The bowl had a lot of bamboo in it, which I have never seen in this dish before, and all the pork pieces were very fatty and chewy. None of the beef cuts like brisket or shank that you normally expect. The only thing I actually enjoyed were the pork meatballs. I'm Vietnamese and had lots of good bbh when I lived in San Jose. So my expectations are kind of high when it comes to Vietnamese food. For $18 it just was not worth it, especially when Pho Seven makes a much better version for $13. Even Joe's Pho across the street serves a better bowl. On top of that, the iced tea they bring to the table was lukewarm with hardly any ice, which was not refreshing at all. Overall the meal was disappointing. The prices are high for what they are serving and the quality just is not there yet. I do not see myself coming back anytime soon.

I came here during their grand soft opening. I was very optimistic about a new pho place and new possible rival to Joe's across the street. It was their first day, so I definitely gave them some grace. They didn't mention about the grand opening special that was going on, they forgot my drink orders, they gave me the wrong drink and had to remake it, they were missing essential silverware, etc. Growing pains, I get it, and I won't fault them for that especially for their very first day. Service you can fix, but food. Food quality I can't let slide. The vermicelli noodles were very clumpy. The grilled meat (not sure what animal it was) was just under room temperature. I should have complained, but I waited about 40 mins for it and was very hungry. The broken rice combo was a fail. You can see in the photo I posted that the egg meatloaf was undercooked. Like very undercooked, I think they forgot my order and rushed it out. The pork chop was thin, hard, and not flavorful. Honestly, the only thing I liked was the passion fruit smoothie. That was only thing that that tasted solid. As of right now, I'm staying away from Saigon Yum. But I might come back in 6 months and hopefully find their food to be of higher quality. I don't want their business to fail, but my experience was very much not enjoyable.

    Steak skillet with Pandan Coffee

We've been coming here once a week for the past month because the food is just that good. So far, we've tried the steak skillet, beef stew with noodles (we had both of those twice now), caramelized pork belly banh mi, and the BBH and every single dish has been a hit. Nothing has disappointed!! On top of that, the staff are always so nice and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The restaurant itself is spacious and has a really comfortable, inviting vibe. Highly recommend!

Ok spot to come for vietnamese food. Their bun bo hue is a little different. A little more salty forward flavor and also includes some bamboo shoots in there too. Crab ball good flavor but was cold. Noodles cooked just right but portion is lacking some meat. Beef could also be a little more tender but I dont mind a little chewiness. Banh mi ba chi, ok flavor but a little small. Feels like its missing something like pate as its a little plain with just mayo/butter.

Then, as much as we loved the banh mi, the banner and the sidewalk sign advertising them as a new lunch option last year seemed almost like they were really, really trying to pull in more people any way they could. Every time I walked past this place, it was either empty or there were one to two tables with guests at a time. So when the word finally broke a few days ago that the owners have sold the place and are closing, I felt really sad, but wasn't surprised. It's definitely the end of an era, and is one of those longtime San Leandro restaurants in this strip of E 14th that has a comforting, early 2000s vibe -- and is now gone, like so many before them. It's frustrating, especially because the likelihood of them possibly getting replaced by a chain or yet another taqueria or Chinese place is high (though they apparently don't know what will be moving in after them). Dropped by yesterday with my husband for a final lunch. He got the bun bo hue and I got the yellow curry stir fry and fried rice. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious, and the restaurant was nearly entirely full with people having their own last meals and saying their goodbyes to the owners. While the owner was incredibly nice, service was terrible. She was overworked, working the counter, packing up to-go orders, taking table orders, bringing out food, AND bussing tables alone. The party next to us was a little frustrated that she still hadn't come by to take their order and went to the counter to flag her down. I don't know how much longer Le Soleil would've remained viable if service has been like this for months. It's a sad situation, but I wish nothing but the best for the owners, especially if they decide to open another restaurant in the future.
