I ordered a regular "pho train" (special combo noodle soup). It took 25 minutes to be served. At the time, the restaurant was not busy. Most other customers who arrived after me had already received their food before my bowl arrived. I understand that some preparation time is expected, but 25 minutes for a regular pho order under light traffic seems longer than typical. A simple heads-up about the wait time would have been helpful. This is not about taste, but about service consistency and communication. I hope the restaurant can review their order workflow.
The food was delicious, super fast service and attentive staff! They have a wide selection of dishes, if pho isn't for you, the have it all! They also offer complimentary dessert bar, a soft serve station and fruit cocktail. They were showing sports, F1 and each tv had different shows! It was clean, quiet and very comfortable!
Nice restaurant with a spacious area. It is called PHO but they do have a lengthy menu with a lot of selection. We chose pho with a giant rib, very reasonable price, medium for 19.95. Big bowl is 22.95 The meat was tender, however the broth was very bland, like salty water. Broth is a big key for pho since meat is just meat, people enjoy the flavor of the broth while eating pho. Service was slow, took awhile for the pho to arrive which is a right way for the pho restaurant. It was a nice outing but I am not that hurry to come back. The have compliment dessert which I think it a good idea, low cost but it makes people enjoy and feel not ripped off making extra money for the dessert.
My husband and I try to avoid going to Joe's Pho because of their prices. We know their food is good, but we just can't justify $20+ for a bowl of pho, INSANE! We were in the area and it has been years since we ate at the original one, probably since they first opened. So since its been so long, we thought we would stop in this newer location for a quick lunch on a Monday afternoon. They were fairly busy, but service was still great. We were greeted and seated right away. Our order was taken in a timely manner. We ordered the Oxtail pho, banh mi xiu mai, bot chien, and an avocado smoothie. Our food came out pretty quick minus the bot chien which the server said usually takes awhile. Oxtail pho was as good as we remember. Oxtail was fall off the bone, actually, all the meats in the pho were very tender, which we love. Banh mi xiu mai was all right. I felt like something was missing, but I can't figure out what it is. Flavor was there, but maybe too much egg for my liking or sauce was not thick enough. Overall, I would pass on this one. Bot chien is something I always get if I see it on the menu. I love mines crispy, and this was indeed crisppppy!!! I would get it again. Avocado smoothie was decent, I wish it were colder, but even after putting it in the fridge, it still never got cold. Strange. They offer a quite a few things for dine in customers. They have complimentary shrimp chips, che, pandan waffle, and even fruits. I guess that can make up for the expensive food. I wouldn't frequent going to Joe's, but I guess we don't have to avoid going there either. We can splurge for some good pho once in awhile. At least you know that you won't be disappointed in the flavor.
It takes a lot for service to tick me off. On this rare occasion, I was quite incensed. I was craving pho when I was down with a bad case of flu, and ordered oxtail combo pho. So you know it's the fancier kind of pho. It was really good too, with fantastic broth, delicious meat, and it was hitting the spot and alleviating my symptoms. Waitress was super nice, brought me hot tea, and the pho came out super quick after I ordered. Everything went smoothly....until I wasn't even halfway done with my bowl when I got up to go use the restroom. As I started to walk to the bathroom, I noticed the busboy went to my table and dumped trash into my bowl. I don't think I've ever been incensed with waitstaff like this. As if I were a screeching car, I made a U-turn straight back to my table and told him I wasn't even done with my lunch yet. My bowl was clearly still half-full with noodles, broth, some meat and veggies, and I was even saving the tastiest parts for last, such as tendon, one of my favorite things to eat when I order pho. It was THE GOOD STUFF, and I didn't even get to eat that! I grew up in an immigrant household, and we don't believe in wasting food. Staff all seem to be immigrants, so they should understand. Busboy's excuse was so lame, and mumbled something like, "I didn't know, you just walked away." He got the hostess, and then the hostess got the manager, and their excuses were also pathetic. They said, "If you need to go to the bathroom, you should have just told us." Excuse me, I'm not some school kid who needs to ask for permission from the teacher to go to the bathroom. This is a large restaurant, I'm a solo diner, and I'm sure they have better things to do than to keep track of customers going to the restroom. If I haven't paid for a meal, and my food isn't finished, it should be safe to assume I'm still working on it. I was really upset at them, and at least they let me go without making me pay. Normally I'd feel bad for being that angry with restaurant staff, but in this case they needed an earful. They made stupid moves, they shouldn't expect me to remain polite. I've dined solo on many, many occasions, and I have NEVER had my food dumped prematurely like that. I guess I've just been lucky. Or in this case, unlucky. The perils of solo dining, I suppose.
Clean- chopsticks are in individual paper wrappers, for example. Food was decent, would be good in a pinch (although pricey)! The beef in the pho was actually tender so credit for that! Otherwise the broth and noodles, and other dishes we tried were OK (good, not great). Service was great! Everyone was very nice. Plenty of tables, it's a large space and could be good for large groups.
Joe's Pho added new menu items. Their flour cake we tried was so nostalgic for me, bringing back memories of a Vietnamese restaurant I used to frequent with my family in the South Bay as a child and teen, then with friends in a South Sac location of that same restaurant during my college days. Not all Vietnamese restaurants serve this dish, so I was excited to see the vivid photo of the flour cake that caught my eye on their menu! My mom had a culinary clever idea to use lettuce to turn it into a flour cake lettuce wrap, since we already had lettuce leaves with our entrees. This plus the salty and sweet sauce made me devour the flour cakes! This is a must try when you're at Joe's Pho! For my entree, I chose their filet mignon pho. It was a cold and rainy evening, so it was a perfect choice to warm my soul. Due to the spacious style of this restaurant, even with large parties, the ambiance is never too loud and you can speak to each other without shouting, which is one of the reasons we enjoy dining here. Being able to dine with comfortable spacing is a plus! Also, as usual, since we are frequent diners here, the servers who know us took care of us. It blew us away to see how packed the restaurant was when we were there and to see the door swinging open nonstop! Evidence of why Joe's Pho is a go-to Vietnamese spot! Let our bellies speak!
Pros: BOGO Banh Mi deal is unmatched. Hope they keep this promotion ongoing! Banh Mi was packed with protein and the spread used on the bread is fire! Condiments/veggies in the sandwich applied in surplus. Cons: Wait time for takeout was slightly delayed but not inexcusable. Customer service at the point of sale was lackluster - cashier gave us the millennial stare, failing at key moments to offer recommendations or properly field questions about the menu. -Posted December 2025
Came to Joes today, food was delish the broth was amazingly good by itself didn't need to add anything at all!!! My favs are the shrimp spring rolls and Thai tea sooo good can't go wrong with that, service was great, the only reason I was a bit disappointed was due to the free desert bar it was empty they only had canned mixed fruit no ice cream no whip cream. I will still come back for the yummy broth
Cold rainy days call for warm soup and comfort food. We found ourselves at Joe's Pho for dinner where no reservations are necessary and seating is plenty. We were provided complimentary shrimp chips as soon as we sat down. The egg roll appetizers were crispy and freshly cooked. Soup and rice plates are average compared to other Vietnamese establishments. Food is quite pricey in comparison. There is a station with complimentary desserts which I never get because it always looks like it's been sitting there the entire day.
Joe's Pho is a very large restaurant located in the San Leandro Plaza. They can accommodate large groups of people. House music playing inside. Two separate multi-user men and women restrooms. The menu offers pho, rice plates, pandan waffles, etc. This review is only for their iced coffee. Strong bold and milky.
Hubby & I dropped in for lunch today for our 19th hole. We were seated by a hostess and given a glossy menu with tons of pictures. Great selection of Vietnamese food including pho and cold vermicelli noodles bowls. Yes, our standard go to items at any Vietnamese restaurant - 1) hubby with his large combo pho 2) me with egg roll and grilled pork vermicelli. With two grilled shrimp. Pros: * generous portion sizes - hubby said plenty of meat in his pho. I enjoyed the grilled pork in my dish. * once we ordered, it was a short wait for our food. * plenty of tables in a vast setting. * plenty of parking. Cons: * prices on the high side for lunch. Hubby's pho $19 large. Mine $22. When finished you pay at the counter providing your table #. Located at shopping center where Safeway is the anchor store.

Joe's Pho opened 3 years ago where Avenue Fashion was. Cavernous space with gray walls, minimal decor, small undersized uncomfy steel chairs. Sign at front station reads "wait to be seated". Stood a minute, then sat myself at a table. An associate later moved me to another table. Ordered from associate. Food/coffee arrived within 10 minutes. Paid later at cashier station. Amigo server brought food to tables. Wore gloves on both hands. American classic music playing semi-loud in background. 4 flatscreens on walls with different channels on. Offerings (Vietnamese): Vermicelli salad bowl, banh mi (sandwiches), special items: (crepes, soups, noodles, pho, salad), rice plates, Viet. fresh rolls, coffee, drinks. Sips: black Viet coffee (6.50) hot, no sugar -bold, strong brew. Pretty good Bites: banh mi. Buy one get one free (11.95) -pork belly had 4 pieces, meatballs had 3. Both still "hot" off the grill/steamer. -big baguette, not traditional one, fresh & crunchy. No cavity to hold ingredients. Served like a hot dog. Protein on top. Fillings at bottom. -didn't taste pate, mayo schmear? Fillings of jalepeno slices, carrot pieces, cucumber bits, cilantro, daikon. -banh mi has crispy crunch from bread, veggies. This place is pretty good! Decent pho, lots of options to choose from, and they offer free shrimp chips. My main gripe with this place is how expensive the drinks are. Like $8.50??? For a drink??? Insane, I feel like most boba places do not even charge that much. read more
Came here for lunch the first time and we were greeted right away. They provided warm towels for your hands and gave shrimp chips as a free appetizer. We ordered the Bun Bo Hue and it was good - good portion for the meat sizes but I felt like there was barely any noodles! I would come back here again to try out the Mi Quang (since I feel like there's not a lot of Vietnamese restaurants that has Mi Quang). Once you're done eating, you pay at the front counter. There is a large parking lot infront and it's connected to other stores in that plaza. read more

Ok this might be the best pho place I've been to.. I got the regular size filet mignon pho and spring rolls. The beef just tastes different, it's soft, not over cooked or rough to chew on. I saw that they have the 3 color drink on the menu and most pho restaurants don't even sell them anymore. I ordered a coke with ice this time but definitely getting the 3 colored drink next time!! One thing I do regret is not ordering the fried chicken wings. We saw the waiter bring out the wings for another table and we were amazeddddddd. Do not order sandwiches from the online system if you want the daily BOGO offer! You must call in the order or order it in person. There was a 20% tip added to my online take-out order, which is ridiculous. All they do is hand you a bag! It was easy to remove the tip though. I ordered a cold cut sandwich with extra pate to go, but what I received had a small amount of cold cuts with a thick slice of pork. I didn't see any pate. It was tasty, but not what I was expecting based on the photos in Yelp. read more

Standard place for good pho. Egg rolls nice and crispy - pho is yummy. $20 for a bowl is kinda crazy but hey get it how you live. Service is decent, they're all polite. Very spacious restaurant if you're hungover wear sunglasses because it's bright in there :) read more

My partner and I went to Joe's Pho to get some food because we do like their food. We've always brought my task trained service dog with us and it's never been an issue. However, tonight we had an issue with the service dog. They asked for his certification or ID which in the USA, there are none. The employees insisted there's ID's and I showed them the laws off of the ADA's website. I showed them the 2 questions they may ask and was very polite about it the whole time explaining the laws and also saying I'm a dog trainer and my partner is an Animal Control Officer. (I'm used to getting questions from restaurants about this and I always try to calmly educate in a light manner.) They then tried to seat us in the back away from everyone else because of this. My partner said we were fine where we were because we didn't want to face more discrimination. So their response was to say they were refusing to serve us because of the service dog. I asked for the manager or supervisor and I was told they were not on sight. They did not want to provide further information than that. A complaint has been filed with the ADA and also has been reported to the San Leandro Police Department and Animal Control. I hope they will review the laws regarding service animals so no one else with an actual service dog has to go through this. I've attached pictures of us being served in October where the dog was also there. read more

Located next to the post office. The restaurant is huge. Plenty of seating. There are also jumbo televisions which was great because we were able to catch the football game on Saturday night. Pho is Vietnamese soup. Nothing exciting about soup, or so I thought! I heard the food was good and decided to give it a go. My son said it was the best chicken broth he'd ever tasted. The pho was so good we went back to back days. The 1st time I got the chicken. Delicious. The 2nd time i trued the combination. Even more delicious. I feel like it is overpriced. $33 for one adult & one kid meal is on the pricey side to me. The service was good. We were seated and waited immediately read more

This place is huge and spacious The service was ok, she came around asking if we were ok several times Food is ok. Like the shrimp cupcakes (is a savory appetizer) made with rice flour and coconut milk top it off with a shrimp and dried shrimp dusk , it was good and crispy Not sure about the soup broth which had lots of seasoning, I was quenching for thirst afterward read more

First time trying this location, service was excellent and food was mostly very good. Place is huge, I kept trying to remember what was the previous business prior to Joe's taking over, was it Payless shoes or beauty/wig shop??? Having lived in SL for 15 yrs, can't blame a girl for trying to recall. Lol Moving on, similar layout to Joe's original location. Menu offers usual pho place affairs and a good variety of drinks. I opted for young coconut juice and it was refreshing with 2 large slices of actual coconut. I ordered Vermicelli w/grilled pork, portion was generous and very nicely presented. Pork had good flavor, tasty. My table mate had regular size rib pho, meat was tender and soup tasty, nothing to complain about. The only item that wasn't on point was the chicken wings, it was bland, needed more time to absorb marinate. Other than that, the free shrimp chips were good as the free pandan dessert that comes with, yummm! All in all, good option for Pho around SL. Again, service was EXCELLENT, very friendly folks, water was filled multiple times without asking and boss lady came by several times to ask how was everything. Will definitely go back again! I don't know how I haven't reviewed this place up until now. Have been a loyal Joe's Pho fan for a few years now. Their filet mignon and combo pho always hits the spot! Only took off a star (since we can't remove a half star) because they kinda skimped on the beef this most recent time. They also now have an app for both iOS and Android! Convenient for when you just don't wanna leave the house on cozy nights! read more
