Super cheap, fairly decent fast food, a must stop if in the area. Service was great, super friendly.

If you are a local, skyline is a nostalgic 10 because you grew up on it. The food is cheap, tastes decent, and the restaurant is very laid back making it the perfect safe spot for a bunch of teens to chill or families with noisy kids. As a visitor (and I'll probably be banned from Ohio for this) I don't get the fascination. The chili is sweet, closer to spaghetti sauce than chili but that works out well because they put it on spaghetti. It's also fun to see how much cheese they put on the thing but in the end it's just spaghetti or hot dogs. Despite that, you need to eat here and I guarantee you won't regret it because you either live here and will fight anyway who bad mouths your chili or your a tourist like me and have to try it once just to say you did. read more

Skyline Chili was at the top of my list for things to try when we were in the area. Very glad we did. First of all our server was great he was super attentive and even brought out some extra crackers for our baby. I ordered a regular size 5 way and one cheese coney. My wife got the skyline dip. It was very good in my opinion. The noodles in the chili was interesting and changed the flavor from what I'm used to. I really liked their hot sauce and added a good amount to my food as well. Definitely gonna order some for the house. The coney was overflowing with cheese as it seems everything does there but it kept a nice balance of flavors and textures. The vibes were a mix of diner and fast casual, retro feel with the decor. My wife liked her dip as well. I will definitely be back next time we're in the area. read more

Something you have to try when you visit Ohio. Came here for one thing only the world famous spaghetti chili. The chili was unique with spices maybe nutmeg or cloves. It tasted more like a meat sauce than actual chili. Served with a warm bed of spaghetti and heaping of cheese made a good combination. Don't leave Ohio without trying it. read more

Worst Skyline I have been to in my life. I have been coming to Skyline restaurants since I was a kid. I am in my mid 50s now. Look at this four-way, there is no chili on it. It is all spaghetti. Angelina was our server and we had to go find her to place our order. *** She was sitting at the bar on her phone. Maybe it's a generational thing but I don't think you should be on your phone while you're working, especially when you have customers sitting there waiting for you to come over and you're on your phone. Skyline is a Cincinnati icon. Any time I get a chance I stop. This one was across the street from our hotel. We sat down and were not greeted by either server. Both were moving through the tables but neither acknowledged us. We caught the attention of Bri, a bubbly, knowledgeable server who was not supposed to be our server but she jumped right in. Everything was perfect after she arrived. I had the 4 way. Spaghetti, chili, cheese and onions. I knew what to expect with this and they were spot on. My wife had never been here before. She ordered the chili cheese fries and the coney bowl. 3 got dogs, chili and cheese with no bun. She really enjoyed this. To finish it off we had funnel fries. This was like fry size funnel cakes. Thinner and crisper than a funnel cake so it was actually much better. This would be a 5 star if the service didn't start so slow. read more

We are from California and have heard of Cincinnati Chili. My friends in Ohio met us at this location and when the waitress heard it was our first time, she got us samples of the chili to try before buying. It's not quite like Texas chili, but it's still delicious in its own right. If you are not into cinnamon, or whatever spices they put in, the taste may not be for you. The texture isn't quite like Texas chili either. Being my first time, I ate the chili with spaghetti and "lighter" cheese and enjoyed it. Maybe next time I'll go for a chili dog. read more

There seems to have been a change of wait staff at the Covington KY Skyline. We love Skyline overall and used to feel the same about the Covington location. It had a warm and welcoming staff, mostly middle-aged women who were there forever. With the exception of one or two, they have been replaced by younger waiters, not so involved. Here's some key points: 1. We were not greeted, like the previous staff would do. 2. The current staff seemed more interested in talking to each. The previous staff had a manager who actually made the rounds, table to table to make sure things were OK. Have no idea who the manager is, the sign on the door says "Abby -----". 3. Had to get up from the table to find the waitress, needed something. Thinking Ally (or Elly) is one of the carryovers from before. She seemed spacey. 4. Later, wanted to make another food order. But the staff was all gathered in a corner talking about non-work stuff. We decided to check out and even then we had to verbally call-out for a cashier. Anyway, Skyline Chili in Covington was always on our "must go to" agenda. Probably no longer, terrible service and lack of friendliness. My boyfriend is from Cincinnati so I was pretty excited to try Skyline. I'd had the canned kind before but of course I knew it wasn't the same. Walking in I noticed the open kitchen and friendly staff. Everyone said "Hi" or ""Welcome!" We were seated right away. The kitchen was clean and it was run smoothly like an assembly line . Restaurant had a quaint comfortable feeling and brought back nostalgic feelings from my childhood (sometimes I miss the Midwest vibes). I ordered a 4 way with onions (spaghetti, Skyline chili, finely shredded mild cheddar cheese, chopped onions) you can choose beans instead if you prefer. I hadn't had spaghetti in years. This was really good. The spaghetti was cooked nicely and the sauce with the cheese and onions was just so satisfying. I recommend adding some of the hot sauce they have on the tables - similar to Tabasco but better!!! I also ordered the Cheese Coney and was very happy. The hotdog itself is smaller than typical dogs you buy at the store but it's loaded with so much sauce and cheese it's huge! I hope I can come here again before we leave town. read more

Gives "hole in the wall" vibes but our server was really nice! We explained we were first timers from out of town and she let us sample the chili before we took a true plunge. It's interesting! I think you need a really delicious chili to stand out in the meal, and I don't think skyline offered that. Everything was very basic: noodles, chili, beans, cheese etc were just Meh. I wanted to do this review quickly so I didn't forget the amazing service from Ellie. She made our last stop in KY/OH memorable. She'd been working here for a long time and explained the "chili game" in the area. Apparently, there's a lot of competition amongst fast food chili around here. One server here has worked at Skyline for 50 years. Anyway, the food was very good, as advertised. This was our first time here, and there is a specific way you have to order. My wife and I both had the medium-sized 5 way raw. We wanted to try everything in our chili. My son had the loaded fries. The sauce at Skyline was delicious. Ellie said it was a secret recipe. It was sweeter than I expected and had hints of cardoman and other spices. I loved it! Our meals prepared us for the long trip home. We thought the food was pretty good, but our server was exceptionally nice and friendly. She gave us free samples and explain the various options since we had never seen this type of restaurant before. Thank you for being so welcoming! As soon as we walked in the door, A young man I presume it was the manager immediately welcomed us and explained that we could either have to-go or sit inside the dining room. He was very helpful. I ordered a Coney Dog and a Greek wrap. I'm still not sure about the chili flavor, but I really liked the Greek wrap. Very tasty. Plus, not too many calories. I should mention that the menu clearly list the calories. That was really helpful. I especially want to thank our server, Christy. That explains the 5-star review. She was really friendly and explained a lot of facts about the chain to us. Since the Covington @ Roebling store is now permanently closed, this location now reigns king for post-Mainstrasse chili and coneys. I love it and have always loved it since our dear former neighbors and friends Mark and Becky turned us on to it back in the late 90's. The first time I had it reminded me of my moms legendary spaghetti sauce (got to be a shaker of cinnamon in there somewhere) along with other secret spices that bring out the unique depth of flavor. Tomatoey, chocolatey (yes!), peppery and good. It's pretty straightforward....you order it the following "ways": 2-way = spaghetti and chili 3-way = spaghetti, chili, cheese 4-way = spaghetti, chili, onions OR beans, cheese (my fav is with onions!) 5-way = spaghetti, chili, onion AND beans, cheese It's served over spaghetti noodles, by itself in a bowl or on a hot dog. Any vehicle for this thick delish, meaty delight will pretty much suffice. Slurping noises, extra cheese and onions and extra napkins all permitted. Disclaimer, I have never been here during daylight hours. In my opinion this location is the go to for late night after bar dining as not many Skylines are open this late other than Clifton! I have been here many times over the years, but since moving away from Covington hadn't been back in quite a while. We came here at 230 (close at 3am) and asked if we could still be served. They were happy to serve us. I had the sweet tea and chilli cheese fries with habanero cheese, which came out quickly and were good. The waiter was super nice and made it very clear there was no rush. Late at night on weekends there is a COV police security detail, but there was for sure no issues. read more

The food wasn't that bad. If you didn't already know they put A LOT of cheese on the coneys. The service is definitely the fastest service I've had in a restaurant in a while. Some of the seats are taped up, I saw some hairs on the window frame, and there were crumbs on the table. You may like this addition, but they just say "go pick a table" but not rudely. The decor is all about the Reds. They have a TV but when I came it wasn't on. When you first get seated they bring you complimentary ouster crackers. The bathroom Is definitely not the greatest. The door didn't even lock or close. I saw multiple fly's flying around. When my family and I finished our meal the kiddos got a pack of Oreos. The chili was delicious, if you like your coneys a little bit more on the sweet side. I personally thought it tasted pretty good. One more thing, free WiFi! read more

Suppose you are tired, because you've driven 580 miles, watched two professional baseball games and failed to escape an overzealous Indiana State Trooper. My friend had been raving about this place ever since we left Chicago, and I, for one, was very excited to try it out. Hey, we don't have those in California. Do you know the greatest benefit of eating chili at 9:30 pm? You get a true private dining experience, not to mention your server's undivided attention. She was utterly surprised to see customers walk in so late. You could tell the workers were ready to go home, as they've mopped the floors and all but lined up at the door. Still our waitress managed to be as nice and cheerful as all get out. We ordered their famous 3-Way Chili. It's a plate of spaghetti, topped with meat chili and a LOT of shredded cheese. Cheese is definitely the name of the game here. I had never seen this much shredded cheese since . . . Actually, scratch that. I had never seen this much shredded cheese. I also ordered 3 coneys (tiny hot dogs served with mustard on a steamed bun). They were also topped with chili, onions and . . . more shredded cheese of course. I kept thinking that I am not a kid anymore, and I probably would not enjoy spaghetti with ketchup and cut up hot dogs, but Skyline exceeded my expectations. In some weird gastrointestinal way the meal worked. I devoured the spaghetti and the coneys, washing it down with a cold diet coke. The chili was meaty and mild, and the coneys were soft and plump. I couldn't help but thinking of challenging my friends to a coney eating contest. I am no Kobayashi, but I could easily have a dozen of those. They're darn good. Forget the eating contests, though. What I really want to see is Orbit Gum or Crest toothpaste taking on Skyline Chili. I bet we all know who wins that one. I stayed at a hotel within walking distance and had long been aware of the unusual style of chili that Cincinnati has.. in fact they offer you 5 different ways!!! I am sure there are many people that would say you should never mix chili and spaghetti -- but that is just what this regional version of ways to serve chili does. The staff is super helpful in explaining all the different ways you can experience your chili and very helpful is a free sample if you are unsure. The chili is made with cinnamon as one of the spices and for some this will be a real turnoff. I think many of the bad reviews is due to not liking this regional chili experience. For me I love trying all kinds of cuisine and I can say I see the appeal even tho it is not my favorite type of chili. I asked for lighter cheese as I wanted to experience the food as a whole without a giant mound of cheese = you might consider doing the same. This particular Skyline location is awesome. I used to live right across the street from it, when I lived in Covington... and no, I did not live at the Kenton County Jail. For a time the place wasn't doing too well - I think perhaps the food prep was sub-par, the establishment was having problems retaining staff, inconsistent hours, and there may have even been some accounting problems. But then I think corporate decided to send this location back to boot camp and focus on the basics. The difference was night and day. When I went there, they'd throw in extra oyster crackers if i asked for them. The service was always very quick. They'd let me order things that may not necessarily have been on the menu, or were limited time items. And, for the location in Covington - there weren't many questionable characters just hanging around. (I think we all know who I'm talking about). In the area is the Kenton County Courthouse, the IRS building, and the correctional facility - so for the workforce lunch crowd there are LOTS of options in the area.
