Changes the menu everyday?! This quaint but very pleasing restaurant offered us a nice breakfast this morning. Wondering how well they do on a daily basis, I was impressed with my biscuits and gravy and the French toast. The French toast was plentiful big and fluffy paired with a whipped butter and maple syrup. The biscuits were just as big in size and I'm glad I settled with only one instead of two! The chicken gravy was so flavorful and had a beautiful color. Seriously delicious. All of it! The cinnamon roll coffee was not to sweet but also not over bearing in coffee or espresso taste, just executed nicely. I love I got to see them purchasing local, they have an Amish van pull up front with a delivery of their fresh quality ingredients like eggs and bread! I have to return soon to try more dishes, I'm impressed.
Egg white omelette was slimy and wet. In addition, it was way too SALTY. I couldn't even taste the egg. There was so much salt I didn't even finish it. The other person I was with also had an omelette with the same problem. I like that they carry local raised meats but they charged $50. For 1 egg white omelette with nothing else, 1 egg white omelette with cheese, and 3 local small breakfast sausages. Crazy.
Small but cute little brunch spot. You order everything through your phone or their iPad kiosk. I got the cinnamon roll with extra icing, as well as the biscuits & gravy. Both were delicious especially the biscuits & gravy.
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now. And I finally made the time to do so. I didn't realize how small it was until I walked it. It was a quiet quaint restaurant. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich, with a side of hash browns . The sandwich was huge . It was pretty tasty. Also I ordered the oatmeal pie latte (cold) which was phenomenal. And I ordered the cheese blintzes which was tasty! I thought the overall experience was okay. I would rate the place at least a solid 7. I definitely would go back to try more menu options. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was very nice and attentive.
Skillet has been on our list of brunch places to try for quite some time. We finally gave it a go, and had heard that there is usually a wait because the inside is rather small. Well, that is a bit of an understatement -- the inside is very crammed, and there's only about 5 tables. They do have a tiny bar area, but they weren't letting any parties sit there. The wait time was only about 25 minutes when we went. They don't take call aheads or reservations -- just check in on an iPad when you arrive to join the waitlist. They have a rotating menu, and it's quite small -- not like your typical brunch place. They don't have physical menus, so make sure your phone is charged so you can scan the QR code. The online menu is a little goofy on the phone browser because you have to click on each item to read the description, then go back to the home page and select again. The prices are also quite a bit higher than you'll find at most places, which fits with the niche farm to table theme. But $5 for a simple cup of coffee? Hmmm. I guess they have to make up for only being open 3 days a week. We started with cheese blintz for the table -- crepes filled with sheep's milk ricotta and crème Anglaise, topped with blackberries. These were the (only) star of the show and definitely would recommend trying them. My SO tried the biscuits & gravy, touted on the menu as blackened chicken breasts in a peppery veloute over a griddled "cat's head" biscuit topped with scrambled eggs. I'm not sure if it was the veloute or what, but the chicken looked like it came straight from a can and should be served to a cat -- maybe that's how they decided on the "cat's head" biscuit? Do not recommend. I tried the farmhouse ranch cheese burger. It's comes with what appeared to be Lay's kettle chips. The ranch cheese was actually really good, but otherwise the burger was average and not worth the $23 price tag. The others at the table both got the breakfast sando, which had scrambled eggs and cheddar on griddled hot cross buns with a maple mustard. Want to add bacon? You can get 3 slices for $10. The service was a bit lackluster, which I didn't quite understand since they serve so few patrons at a given time. For example, we ordered coffees and had cream and sugar. We had no silverware or anything to mix the coffee with. Eventually, we asked for silverware but they didn't bring it out until we got our meals. Also, it was just all around slow. Lastly, the claustrophobic box of a restaurant had such poor air flow and it was so hot that everyone at our table was sweating by the time we got our food. In fact, it actually felt better outside the restaurant than inside. Overall, pretty disappointing experience at Skillet and definitely won't be back. The only thing salvaging this from a 1 star review are the cheese blintz, which I would get again in a heartbeat, but seeing as we won't be back, that doesn't really matter.
This is one of the best brunches I have had anywhere. Only open Fri / Sat / Sun from 8:30 - 1:30 on a first come first serve basis, the wait is definitely worth it and my wife and I always make a point to get our "Skillet fix" in whenever we are in town or passing through. Service staff are friendly and extremely well trained. Tiny but incredibly charming dining room. Highly recommend - and if the hamburger is on the menu, don't hesitate! It's one of the best anywhere!
Delicious breakfast at this little hole in the wall located in German Village. Focused on fresh ingredients, the menu is constantly changing. Everything we had was delicious and the service was exceptional and friendly.
Hubby surprised me with brunch out at Skillet in the German Village on a recent Saturday morning - what a treat! There's no room for waiting in this tiny space, but you can go in to join the online waitlist via QR code. Then, you can walk around the neighborhood or wait in your warm car. The wait seemed to go fairly quickly. Skillet's space is quite small and has a rustic, urban feel with exposed brick and a view through to the kitchen. The amazing aroma of breakfast food permeated the space as well as the surrounding neighborhood for several blocks! My companion and I shared the cheesy potatoes. I was expecting crispy fried potatoes with cheese, but they were fingerlings with no crispy edges to be found. That said, they were delicious - the cheese mixture used was absolutely heavenly. We opted for a fried egg on top - a must-have! Our server told us the portions are generous, and boy was she right. Even with sharing a dish, we still brought some leftovers home. We also shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding cake which was scrumptious. The cake was a bit dry on the outside, but the inside was moist and flavorful. A very nice sweet treat for any time. Overall, we were impressed and will be back! I would love it if there was a way to join the waiting list without having to walk into the restaurant and subject diners to an icy blast of cold air, but spring will be coming again soon!
Location; Trip to Ohio, I was told to try this place it is small and cozy, with limited seating. No large parties, make sure to put your name early may be a wait. On this trip just had a small wait. Only reason received the rating as once we were seated, we were informed the ordered system crashed and we needed to order on the to-go app, which make sure you order everything you want initially it was a bit hectic with the ordering system. Food; the food was really delicious, for this I will go back to try again. Once we sat we were asked if we wanted anything to drink, we both ordered coffee with cream and sugar, we did get the coffee swiftly which was really good along with the cream, but no sugar or anything to stir it with. We tried to get someone's attention for some sugar and a stir stick sadly. The food; I ordered the Cheese Blintz, a small order and it was delicious so yummy with a side of bacon which was crisp and heavenly. Who I was with ordered the Biscuit & Gravy, holy goodness it had the best taste with a spicy sausage gravy that was so good. Aduly Beverage, I did order the Watermelon Rise, the food came out and still had not received my beverage I did ask if I paid since now I am confused with ordering online which I did order. The Watermelon Rise, which if maybe received prior to the meal it would have been better, but sadly was disappointed and could not taste any Tequila I am thinking mistake and it was just watermelon juice. Service; Everyone was super friendly, just seemed a bit hectic from the servers and kitchen.

I saw a lot of great reviews about this house turned restaurant. It's a tight spot but well worth the wait. They were out of a lot of menu items by time we were seated. However, the burger I had was one of the best ever. You could taste the fresh, quality ingredients in every bite. Our server was also helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Whether you're looking for breakfast or lunch, this place has something for everyone! read more

Wow, if you've not been here it needs added to your list. I had the Sando and although the poached eggs weren't as runny as I would have preferred the flavor in the dish was fantastic. I'd definitely have it again, although I'd request runny yolks, more like their instagram photo. Definitely check out their insta to get an idea before you go. My daughter asked for a grilled cheese ( not on the menu) and they happily accommodated and it was great. My wife had griddled biscuits and fingerling potatoes. We all had some of the potatoes and equally delicious. In the end we shared a griddled cinnamon roll which we were all impressed with. Start to finish, this is a fantastic restaurant. read more
Amazing breakfast just on the edge of German Village. The huevos rancheros and pimento cheese omelette were fantastic. The pimento cheese was sweet and spicy. The dining area was intimate and very pretty. And the service was quick and extremely friendly. Highly recommend. read more

I'm pretty torn between a 3 and 4 star on this one, but overall I'd say the experience was pleasant. For a late Sunday morning, we found easy street parking, no wait for a table, and all around very quick service (almost a bit concerning how fast the food came out). Note that this spot is small and has very limited indoor seating, and if you come with a party larger than 4 you'll probably have a hard time getting a table. Loved the rustic / home-y / southern vibes from the space. Menu is pretty limited and while initially when the food came out I thought the portion was small, I was quite full when all was said and done. What'd we eat you ask? Well, I did the lamb chorizo gravy and biscuit. Lots of flavor and depth to the gravy, but not much lamb chorizo. Kind of one of those things where you think you taste it, but don't really see it anywhere. I almost considered ordering a side order of sausage but an extra $6 seemed a bit pricey. By the time I finished the biscuit did it's job and filled me up. I'll say their in house chipotle sauce was excellent if you wanted more flavor and a bit of heat. My wife on the other hand did the cheese omelette and added the $6 sausage to be chopped into the omelette. I think without the sausage I'm not sure either of us would've enjoyed just a cheese omelette. Their house coffee was excellent. In terms of price, it definitely seems pricey for what it is (+$20/per person after tax and tip), but at the same time I try to justify in my mind it's really a farm to table spot which likely markets it up as it is. I can see how the reviews on this one are pretty mixed and am still scratching my head at how it's at 4.5. Anyhow, I'll go right in the middle on this one. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

The service was amazing, our waiter was very nice and welcoming as well as patient. The vibe of this restaurant/cafe was very calm and rustic chic. It is a little smaller but that might just be because of how busy they are. I got the grilled cheese and apple pumpkin soup and it was amazing. I had never had apple pumpkin soup but it went very well with the grilled cheese and is more flavorful than regular tomato soup. My entire family loved what they got. We all tried each others and everyone liked what they got. My sisters and I got the Chais and they were the best we have ever had. I am not a fan of coffee so I just got a chai without the espresso but both kinds were very good and the presentation is amazing. We are from out of town but if we ever come back to Columbus, Ohio this will be at the top of our list to revisit. read more

Very small space but the chef provided big flavors. Unique food offerings outside of your usual breakfast traditions. Our coffees were delicious. The griddled biscuits with fresh made cherry jam was a delight. The Tamale Ranchero had so much flavor. Nice place to enjoy casual conversation in a quaint space. read more

Comfort food for breakfast? I'm there. Chorizo omelette was delicious and super flavorful. Breakfast sandwich was huge and you needed a knife and fork - perfect. The cheesy taters were phenomenal. Everything is quite rich and delicious. And greasy. Ingredients are super fresh! This is definitely a treat yo self occasion and you can't eat here regularly if you care about your cardiovascular health haha. The Cold brew and house brewed coffee are delicious. Decor is cute and rustic. Only eight tables inside so if you don't time it right, you'll be on waitlist. Super satisfying meal. read more

Kinda fru-fru farm to table locally sourced breakfast spot but good food. They might go a lil overboard in creativity since sometimes you just want it simple but delish but I'll give em A fit effort. The root beer jam not to my liking but then again I don't l like root beer lol I had a basic omelette and the hubby tried the lamb sausage along with a fried egg n biscuits - we both found the lamb sausage too wild tasting or gamey I'd say try it once but that might be it - it tried too hard to be edgy but for me it went too far. Their coffee is really robust and flavorful- that was maybe the best part of my visit! read more

Very cozy space with excellent food, cocktails and service. The smoked chop dish was completely unexpected and SO DELICIOUS. It was almost bacon-y, totally smoky, salty, unctuous and crispy and served on a cheesy, creamy and generous serving of grits. I barely ate half of it. We started with biscuits and jelly. The biscuits were very unique as they seemed to embody every possible biscuit texture in the same bite. It's a delicious mystery. Last and not least - they only have a liquor license. The cocktails are creative and deceptively boozy. This place makes me want to move to Columbus. read more
A Gem in German Village! Located in the Schumacher Place; neighboring German Village and Merion Village, this quant dining spot offers an urban edge with seasonal driven, farm to table comfort classics like biscuits and gravy and shrimp and grits. When you walk into this restaurant, you forget you are in Columbus. The cozy interior, brick walls, limited seating makes you feel like you are in NYC or Boston. You can expect a long wait time, as the restaurant is very small, so I highly recommend going early in the morning. They are only open Friday-Sunday from 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM. Although the wait time can be long, the restaurant does offer free street parking. Skillet is known for partnering with local Ohioan farmers and producers. The menu changes daily based on seasonal ingredients. When I dined at the restaurant, I had the sinfully delicious cinnamon roll drizzled in bourbon, caramel, and maple icing. It was AMAZING and worth every calorie!!! The cinnamon roll truly lives up to their slogan of "always ingredient driven with complex flavors, but never complicated." If you have a sweet tooth or looking for a memorable brunch spot, enjoy a delicious and intimate brunch at Skillet. It is truly the epitome of "Rustic Urban Food." read more

This has been on the list to try for quite awhile. Went for a Sunday brunch today around 11:30, was able to get in within a half hour. Place is super cozy with a few tables inside, great rustic atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. The menu is ever changing as they cook with what's in season. We started with the Bloody Mary, it was pickled which made it unique but it was a bit overwhelming for me. For 13$ you want a cocktail to have fresh and bold flavors but it was to the point of being overbearing with the bitterness. I would go with something else next time. Food included an angus burger with pimento cheese, bacon and greens served with kettle chips. We also split the omelet with Brussels, butternut squash and chorizo. Everything we ate was delicious and worth the price. Servings were hardy and hit the spot. The great eats alone will keep us coming back. read more

Hot sauce is spectacular! Fresh ingredients in the fennel sausage omelette. Recommend the griddle biscuits with fresh honey and churned creamy butter. Limited menu and ingredients so make to review prior. Quaint setting with for under 30 people (7-8 mixed table tops). read more

This is our second time going after the living in the neighborhood for over four years. Skillet does an excellent job with takeout. Our main entrees were separated from the sauce and the containers were sturdy. I ordered the lamb gravy with biscuits and my boyfriend got the mushroom gravy with biscuits. My meal was a bit salty, but overall, flavorful; same with his. The biscuits are the star though! They are thick, crumbly, buttery, and utterly satisfying! Also, the portions are quite large -- big enough to share. But I will say, I had TWO hairs in my food so that was a major turn off. We also got a cinnamon bun as a snack for later. Although it was very sweet, the two sauces added for a unique and tasty treat. Overall, if you're in German Village I recommend this farm to table restaurant... for takeout because there isn't much seating inside. read more

Love this place! I had heard about it a while ago from a friend who used to live in Columbus so it had been on my list of places to try for quite some time. I came on a Friday morning with two other friends and this was probably the best time to go because no line! It was a little past 8 am and there was a girl dining with her mom. Later on in the hour, a few groups came in but it never got quite packed. The space was interesting. It reminded me of a diner from the 70s with the wood paneling and the fans. The exposed brick was a nice feature too. They modernized the space a little with trendy chairs and mason jars over the lights. The menu was small but all the items looked good. We all ordered different things. I got huevos rancheros, which had two crunchy tortillas with very well-seasoned beans, an egg on top, a sprinkle of cheese, and guacamole. It was very delicious and presented well on the plate. My friend got smoked duck and andouille gravy and biscuits. Her meal was huge! It came with an enormous scrabbled egg laid on top of the biscuits. The gravy and duck were sprinkled all over the top. Yummy! It had a nice flavor to it. Really cool dish! My other friend got Hog and hominy, which was cheese grits on the bottom with a tomato gravy mixed with pork and then a poached egg laid on top. Very delicious!! They did a great job with the uniqueness of the dishes and presentation was pretty good for the most part. Prices are a little higher here, but it's local and they're using ingredients that aren't all that cheap anyway. My friends said the coffee and black tea were good too! Service was great. Our waitress checked up on us a few times. Food came out in maybe 10-15 minutes. It wasn't long, but they also weren't that busy. Parking is no issue either as you can find parallel parking right out front or just a few yards down the street. read more

I love breakfast foods so much so when i found myself actually ready to go at 8 am on a Sunday i knew it was the day to give skillet a shot! *Pre-COVID19 back in February* Their pork chops are on fire!! Really. They know how to cook their meats super well! From the right temperature to the crispy/seared crust and delicious flavors, I thoroughly enjoyed my dish and had to share it with my date since she was not a huge fan of hers. My date ordered their grilled cheese blend and though I actually thought it was a nice rustic blend of cheese, she did not like the soft cheese and it's slight sweetness component. So it's really a preference but to each their own! Note: their seasonal menu and selection of cuts are limited, so try them before they run out for the day! I hope they are doing well during these surreal times! I'll be back to try your coffees, drinks, and more! read more
Cool little restaurant we discovered for breakfast, they had really good drinks and the biscuit in the biscuit and gravy was REALLY good. The gravy itself to me was a little Bland, and the sausage was kind of overcooked but maybe that's just the style. I definitely enjoyed the vibe of the place, as it reminded me a lot of something I'd find back home. read more

Now we're talkin! This is how you do breakfast. Forget the pancakes, the waffles, or your mothers oatmeal. Yes those are all good, but everyone stays In that lane. Where's the creativity? Apparently it can be found at Skillet! First of all, the more exposed brick a restaurant has, the more enjoyable the meal will be....yep that's a thing, a scientifically proven theory. Ok maybe just it's my thing, but it hasn't been proven otherwise so I'm rolling with it. A simple space with both interior and exterior(seasonal of course) seating, I hear the wait on weekends can be brutal but you won't have much difficulty on a weekday. The menu is loaded with creative options, some of the best include: Morning bun - a pastry which honestly looks like a cinna bun. Flaky and filled with gruyere cheese, served with a hefty side of whipped butter. Cheese blintzes: sheeps milk ricotta. Yep, that's what you just ate, and it's wonderful. Surrounded by a light and airy crepes topped with berries and a dust of powdered sugar. It makes you smile just to read it :-) Biscuits and gravy: OMG...save the best for last. An absolute flavor explosion. Yes the biscuit is good but the gravy? Mr. gravy, take a bow, you are the real star of this show. The pepper takes this gravy to another level. Easily the best biscuits and gravy dish I've consumed. Did I already say OMG? This neighborhood breakfast & brunch restaurant spot is a can't miss for any breakfast lover. read more

Their Goetta is great! Goetta is a Cincinnati specific food. It's made with pork and Steele cut oats and made into a loaf. They slice it and grill it to brown it!
