Love that nostalgia vibe with beer jokes.

I ordered a calzone with beer and they really hit the spot after a day of hiking. The calzone was so well balanced in flavor that my taste buds feel clean. The blackberry blonde beer was very tasty. I introduced it to a couple dinning in and both the husband and wife enjoyed it. The decor was fun and humorous, I enjoyed reading them when ai waited for the food. The owner Susan was warm and approachable. I enjoyed our conversation on nature and herbal medicine. Definitely I would go back when I return to McCloud for a visit!

THE LAGER PIZZA

Definitely a must visit when you're around the area. The ambience and the service was amazing. The pizza was sooo good!!! We got THE LAGER, which was named after their dog. Couldn't recommend this place enough. To bad we're so far away, if i live around here i would be here every weekend.

Came here in July 2021, while staying in Mt. Shasta. Heard of this place through a coworker, and thought to try it out. It's not the best pizza in the world, but do you get your money's worth! I got the large California Avenue pizza, and it's about the same price you would pay for a large pizza in SF, but boy do they load on the toppings. The pizza itself is hefty and extremely filling. The only critique I would offer is that I wished the crust was crispier, as it was a tad soft. Overall, would recommend! Money worth it! Would come back again for sure.

We went here for dinner on 10/17/2020 after visiting McCloud Falls. After hiking all day we were starving & in need of some carbs. When we arrived there was only one person in front of us. By the time we reached the counter there was a whole line behind us. The guy working here was so overwhelmed & it showed. I asked him if they had any blonde or Hefeweizen beers & he said "I don't know what those are", very rudely. So we weren't off to a great start from the beginning. I ended up ordering a soda. For the pizza we ordered a half cheese & half Tucci Avenue with white sauce. Our pizza took over 40 minutes to be baked & was significantly undercooked! At this point we waited so long that we just ate what we could & unfortunately threw away quite a bit. Bad pizza & even worse customer service!

Up in the Mt. Shasta area during quarantine to tend to some family property when my wife and I figured we'd stop by. Just the patio was open, so I've no clue what the inside is like. The order window had a pizza menu, but not a beer menu, which was unexpected. We didn't get his name, but the man inside rattled off a couple styles and beer names, a pale, an IPA, Mother McCloud and Mother McCloud Extreme/Xtreme/XTREME (no idea of spelling!) American Ales, a porter, and a couple others I missed. We were told the McCloud/Extreme were "like Coors" which isn't in our wheelhouse, so we went with the pale and IPA. So... they were off style, and not by a little bit. Both were noticeably tart, and the IPA was a bit brackish. It was like they had brettanomyces (Brett) in the brew. I understand it's extremely hard or impossible to remove Brett if you've brewed with it in the past, and separate sets of equipment are used. It seemed like Brett found its way into the pale and IPA. [The sidebar here is showing me a review from August of last year with the same tart claim in a Kölsch and Belgian. Maybe time for new lines?] Regardless, we still enjoyed our beers, and while my wife went with a second IPA, I wanted to try the eXtreme. I've never cared for Coors, but this was super tasty. Nice, clean, easygoing beer and reportedly around 8% ABV. Would absolutely have this again. While we were kicking back and enjoying the mild weather, people were coming in for phone-in pizza orders, and otherwise hanging out. Everyone was friendly, and had great things to say about the pizza. One person said she screwed up her dough at home, and stopped by to grab one of their dough balls. I thought that was super cool. Our local pizza places won't even let us bake them ourselves. Anyway, someone asked about their "pizza with the most stuff on it" or something similar, and the Mt. Shasta pizza was suggested. "It has everything on it. It's 5lbs." You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention. We had two other people to feed at the property, so, one more Mt. Shasta pizza please. Holy moly, that was a good looking pizza. I pulled off a mushroom, and it was strong with garlic flavor. Oh hell yes. We had to drive about 30 minutes back to the property before getting into the pizza, and let me tell you, it was fantastic. It was literally the best pizza I've had in recently memory. I'm back in the Sacramento area now, and it's about dinner time as I'm writing this and, I want a pizza, but, I can't think of a place around here that won't disappoint me after this pizza. TL;DR: * Try to sample the beer first, in case one is unexpectedly tart. * The pizza was amazing, and might ruin you for other pizza for awhile.

We arrived around dinner time and had no idea where to eat. Because of Covid this place only had outside picnic table dining. We walked up to an outside window and the man who greeted us was not wearing a mask, we were wearing a mask because it is the right thing to do. Normally we would have walked away but there weren't many options for us. The beer looked good and the place had a beer garden feel. I can no longer drink so I couldn't review the beer. Our pizza was good and they didn't skimp on the toppings. It wasn't the greatest pizza but certainly not the worst I've ever had. I might give the pizza a fourth star but we were so unhappy that the man at the window was indifferent about our health and well being.

Yuck. Sorry that is not a very sophisticated review. But I have to be honest, chef wonderful, is…read more"average" at best. I am a tad arrogant, having access to the some of the best cuisine by living close to San Francisco. Now to be fair, their price point reflects what you see sitting on the plate before you. The service is polite. Ambiance is fun. I ran around in these train cars as a child while vacationing with family 30 years ago. My advice would be, go with what works. The previous owner had it going on, knew the territory so to speak. This place has "warning Will Robbinson" all over it, like sushi in Kansas. A tuckered out Fly Fisherman would prefer a great steak and baked potato. No shame in that, it is the pillar of American dining. If I want foo-foo, I will go to SFO. But then again, I think the food in Paris is "OK", (specifically their entrees) Paris has great bread, crackers and cheese. Alright, pastry, baguets, and fromage. All the offerings in Italy are amazing and the only thing to eat in the UK are chippies. The best "foo foo food" was Betlenut Pan-Asian on Union Street in San Francisco. Lost their lease however. THAT was the bom-d-idly. Hey if you want a fabulous steak, try Jacks in DT Redding. Great place, but you will wait an hour, maybe two. But it is worth the wait. Has an interesting provenance, the location and building itself, was a house of ill repute back in the FDR days, so the legend goes. Cafe Maddalena in Dunsmuir is excellent as well. This faux fusion/euro/cubano/too cool to be true... might make 2 years max. It is the epitome of "The fastest way to make a small fortune, out of a large fortune is to start a restaurant." Inherited money, I can smell it burning in the kitchen.
