I liked this place in its old incarnation (except the drunk chick telling my cousin, "I fucked Tyson in your sister's bed"), and I like it now. It's beer-only, so don't come in expecting some fancy mixed drink. Cuz you won't be happy. The drinking garden/smoking area out back is still about as dingy as ever, but it's nice to be able to go share a cigarette with a friend with beer in hand. The beer selection here is great, too. From light tangerine-infused beers to your good old fashioned porters and stouts, they've got something for every taste in beer. Even my cousin's non-beer-lovin' girlfriend was able to find something that she liked. Anyway, it's better than paying to get into some Redding club where a bunch of white kids who think they're hard are bouncing around to old hip-hop hits. If you are a Bud Light or Coors Light drinker, this is probably not the place for you, though. Big beers are a specialty here. As a "hop head," I fit in great! I dissed Alehouse Pub in my original review......largely writing it off as soulless, as you can see below. Since then I believe it's changed ownership, and the new owner has managed to infuse enough character into the joint so that it now feels much more like a neighborhood pub. It's become my favorite local place to grab a beer on Friday afternoon with friends or family, and it was TL who reminded me that I'd thumped Alehouse Pub's nose with the accusation of mediocrity in my original Yelp review. By far the best beer selection in town, including a generous mix of IPAs and other intensely hopped ales. Another plus is that the beer selection is constantly changing, unlike many of the bars around town where the proprietors seem to have signed lifetime contracts in their own blood to tap a few select beers, at least half of which are of the domestic sparkling rice water variety. read more

Came here on a Friday afternoon. Seemed liked a dive upon walking in but I was very impressed with the beer selection. Bartender complimented me on my choice of an imported German beer. Little things like that are nice and to let you know you aren't seen as a douche for ordering something other than a bud light. Liked the patio out back. Not sure if it would be my type of crowd at night but it was a nice time. Will definitely try and get there again one of these days. read more

This is probably one of the coolest hangouts in Redding. Beer only but they have a great selection. Plus their staff is super knowledgeable (if you care about that stuff). The only reason I'm giving it a four is it does get kind of loud and in the summer it stays pretty warm inside. read more

Good stuff here at the Alehouse Pub! The owners have spent a lot of time and money making sure that this small friendly bar doesn't have that "hole in the wall" look. If you are looking for a Coors Light, DON'T GO HERE! They have dozens of very nice specialty beers for all tastes. My only star reduction comes off of the Beer&Wine only liquor license. It has been some time since the last time I was even up in the more northern part of California. More of the state of Jefferson area, as some of the locals call it up there. Not that this is any good to the part of the story of how I found this place. Saturday, I had been driving and spending the whole day in the hot car while getting up to Redding, Got off the freeway and just was so thirsty and needing something to drink, right then and there. Driving along one of the main drags in town I found this colored building right next door to Bleachers ((Which i Still call the old Chuck E. Cheese)) Upon walking up to the door, I could see from the patio they have shade and misty cold hair blowing on you. ((Already for the win)) but when i opened the door it was dark, spooky and just said Welcome. Plus good cold air. However, what I found to be funny was the same song that day was on repeat a few times before the barmaid noticed. :) When I think of a pub normally I think of more than just beer, however that alone is not the case here. It's beer and a lot of it. 20 plus taps. Which is awesome it reminds me of the Torrie in SF. They had a little bit of everything tap wise and a lot of good local brews to the CA and OR area. I was a bit sadden by the selection on the cider that they had to work with. Only a pear and raspberry but hey not everyone is me. Also didn't catch the brand that it was. I did like that our barmaid knew her stuff about the different beers and was able to match up something tasty for my friend. Who was pleased with his beer. I love that they have all of the different size glasses outside of just a pint. I saw that samples cost 1.50 each. I guess people had been taking advantage of the system and it had to get taken away. ((However I could see that in an area like this)) It would be totally cool if this place could get a few more flavors of cider and sign me up I will be back when I'm in the area again. I approach my enjoyment of Real Ale differently. I'll ask for a "a refreshing light summer drink to start" or " a brown ale or ESB, with a good aftertaste." The bar staff here know their beer, I have not been disappointed, this is one of the best brown ales I have had in the US (I am British). Just want to update our review. We are now VIP's. My GF became my wife. We enjoy some of the best beers in the country here. Great ownership, great staff, great patrons. We have attended several ticketed events where they really pull out the stops and put on some fantastic beers and serve food. We have never been disappointed. We just attended their 10th anniversary party. Found some new favorite beers and had a great time. If you enjoy quality beer, knowledgeable and friendly staff, friendly patrons, and a casual atmosphere, this is the place in Redding. read more

The Redding Ale House Pub is a great beer joint on the main drag in Redding, CA. 18 or so beers on tap, via a spectacular draft system on top of a beautiful bar. Alehouse Pub, formerly Red, White & Brew Pub , has been completely remodeled and cleaned - it is very nice. Outdoor beer garden is always open - you can smoke, relax while enjoying fine ale outside. Beer selection: Great (mostly) Northwestern selection of beers on tap and a pretty good grab bag of domestic premiums, mex and euro beers in bottles. A great beer joint with a real "pub" atmoshphere. Great service, great beer, chilled glasses (for Redding's Sizzling Summer Nights), and couple of large LCD T.V.s for the sports fans. One of the best selection of beer on tap that is constantly rotating depending on season. So if you come in every once in a while there is always something new to try. The breweries that they have are a lot of California and regional area ones such as Drake's, North Coast, and Speakeasy, which says a lot about the quality of beer brewed in this fine state. Subtly retro, with dim lighting even during the day like by-gawd real bars used to have, but not so dim that you can't find your own ass. As others have mentioned, the place has a great selection of brew on tap. The bartenders have been friendly and attentive, and the hard-core butthead customers seem to gravitate toward that infamous bar just blocks away that offers so much job security for RPD officers. The best bar in Redding period. Come here if you enjoy great beer without the hassle of waiting from crowds or the annoying drunks. Alehouse has at least a dozen amazing beers on tap that changes often and come in 16 or 8 oz glasses. I prefer the 8 oz glasses so I can try out more beers. They don't serve food, but I could care less. The bartenders are nice and remember you. Once you're a regular, they try to recommend beers on your taste. There is outside seating. And they have special events for holidays (which I haven't been). read more

If you are a beer snob as I am this bar is for you. So far this has the microbrew selection I have been able to find in Redding. It is a nice place to watch the game and have a few beers, and every week new kegs are added. Usually on Saturday night there is some sort of entertainment going on. The staff is very friendly and most of the customers are good natured.The downfall of the place is that it is a bit small, it gets busy very quickly, and the parking can be tricky. read more

When I go out for a drink I go to the Alehouse. I love the atmosphere, it is really chill and has the best beer selection in town by far. I order saying... "I want something unusual and really hoppy." The employees know beer and give great recommendations- I am never disappointed. However, if you like Coors light... bummer because they have NO CRAP ON TAP, you can buy a shirt that says so.
