With not many places to eat in Chester, I came across The Ranch House and, after reading the reviews, knew I had to give it a try. I'm so glad I did--it ended up being the best food I had during my entire week-long vacation! I had the recommended French dip, and my father ordered the cheeseburger. Both were absolutely delicious, and we went with the standard fries, which were cooked perfectly. We also ordered wine, and I have to give them credit for the generous pours--they definitely didn't skimp! The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portions, and the whole experience was fantastic. If you're staying in Chester or simply driving through, I would HIGHLY recommend stopping at The Ranch House. You won't regret it! read more

Local spot - unbelievable eats esp after a long day at lassen. My favorite type of place to eat and honestly just hang out. Bunch of locals, everyone knows each other. My favorite type of place. Food was also unbelievable. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. I feel like most big burgers get really saucy or messy in its own way but this really didn't create that much of a mess. Cute vibe! We sat outside since we had a 6 lb pup. Service was beyond slow... other tables were getting water, drinks, refills on ice tea.. all before we had our order taken. Granted the bartender brought us beers... but after that was a complete struggle. Ignored.. even after we asked to order. It wasn't terribly busy. Our bill was also an issue ... the menu and prices that were charged did not match. We were told... oh it's summer menu prices that start today. Hmmm... really summer started several weeks ago. I could probably get past everything else.. but prices on the menu that don't match what your charged... not acceptable! We were visiting my sister in law and brother at their lake house at Lake Almanor and stopped in here for lunch. So cute! We loved the outdoor seating. Such a cute patio with ample table coverings and in late August, just getting out of the sun was so comfortable in the shade here. There are games set up outside (permanent horseshoe installed in the ground) and the sand pits around them have construction trucks placed for kids to dig and play. So fun! My boys would have loved that when they were a little younger and so would we because they would be busy and happy while we eat good food and drink some beers. The beer selection here was good! The Ranch House was surprisingly amazing! We stopped by after spending the day at Lassen. We just looked for the restaurant with the highest rating. When we got there, it seemed like the neighborhood dive bar, so we were worried about how the food would turn out. It didn't matter, we had a nice day at the park, and the staff was friendly. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and caesar salad. When the food came out, it was amazing! Despite the variety in the menu, everything was made in-house. The best part was as we were cashing out, the owner stopped by and chatted with us about other places we should visit. Everyone was very friendly. My only regret was not ordering a tri-tip sandwich. Yup, they nailed it. We were passing through town and wanted to find a cute and quiet place to eat. They were busy but prompt, and our bartender/server couldn't have been nicer. I had every intention of taking pictures of our meal, but it was so good, and I was so hungry we forgot. The appetizer (fried pickles) I did get a shot of. Party of 12. We called roughly hour before arriving, staff were welcoming of our large group, and gave us a heads up that there was only one cook. We never would have noticed though. Wait was not long at all, food was all hot and delicious. Waitress was on top of it, and we never waited long on any request. The ranch house and their staff did amazing. Try the Asian tacos if you like some crunch. I thought they were delicious. This is a bar and food place with a lot of soul and local customers, plus a few tourists. We were able to eat outside, which was nice. But after being served our food and drinks the server disappeared. The food was good the ambiance was nice and typical for the area. The chef came out and asked how the food was and he was very inviting and warm. 1. We received our order and the waitress added one extra dish (which we got charged for) and because of the circumstances (recent forest fires and hardships) we decided to take the dish anyway after the waitress kinda tossed it on our table and said, "it was on the ticket", but we did not order it. My husband and I looked at each other with no words. 2. The bill came and my husband looked over at me "jokingly", as he always does, and said, "I thought you were paying?" The waitress stands there and says to him," are you sure?" After he pulls his card out to pay. She looked pretty serious, although it was all a joke, I found it pretty rude that she brought up that question in that manner. I'm pretty sure being married to my husband for 18 years, he's sure he is paying with our money?! With the experience we had with the waitress staff, my family and I can't seem to wrap around this situation and come back here again. Customer service goes a long way. Because of the added dish and not admitting it was their mistake after we said we didn't order this and turning a jokingly conversation into a uncomfortable situation. This place could have been great but missed the mark with MAJOR food delivery delays. Super friendly staff, dog friendly and very fun atmosphere but the food was very delayed. We made resos for 7pm and sat down at 7:30, no biggie. We ordered fried artichoke hearts, buffalo wings and a quesadilla as an app and also placed our dinner order for a burger, wedge salad and pulled pork sammie. It took a full hour for the apps to arrive and we didn't receive dinner until 9pm. Very very slow. The staff comped our drinks but it was a bummer to have to wait that long. read more

Arrived around 7 on a Saturday night... no indoor table seating available so we sat outside on a warm summer night (no complaints about that!). We played horseshoes on one of three pits while enjoying a cold beer while some classic tunes played on the radio. Awesome, relaxed vibe. Service was quick and friendly. Food was tasty bar food. Beer selection was decent (2 IPAs on draft) and we enjoyed our visit. 4 stars for what it is - a friendly bar with good bar food and fast, efficient servers and a cool outside area with tables and horseshoe pits. Ranch House is a fun spot! It definitely is a local hotspot where everyone behind the bar knows the name of everyone on the other side of the bar. If they don't know you, rest assured, they will by the time you leave! Everyone is super friendly, especially the owner, who's there everyday. The decor is kind of like an old hunting cabin, with taxidermy birds and fish, and a bison head, a tiny bit tacky, but really fun for a restaurant in a small mountain logging town. I personally love it! They also have great outdoor shaded dining options. During the summer it's always packed. They often have fun off menu specials that are worth trying. The last time we were there their two specials were a Rib Dinner and Street Tacos. The Ribs were tender, fall off the bone, with great flavor, both from the smoke and BBQ sauce. My Dad is a pro when it comes to smoking and grilling, and it surpassed even our high standards. The street tacos were good, but nothing to write home about. The take on a French Dip with Tri Tip was definitely a good one. But! The real MVP was the Mac n Cheese Bites! Oh man, not too cheesy, lightly battered, fried with a side or ranch dressing. There were 5 of us celebrating one's birthday. One of our party's drink was forgotten. We didn't take long to decide we all wanted the French dip sandwich. We an hour and 40 mins for our meal to be served and that was after I went inside to ask about it. Ate dinner at this bar after driving from my lodge while taking a trip to Lassen Volcanic Park. It's a friendly, casual bar with a wide array of drinks and American food. We ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Fish & Chips. Both were very delicious. The pulled pork came with tons of tender, savory meat, and the fish had a strong beer taste to it.
