What a cool bar to hang out in! Was in Graeagle for a wedding and desperately needed a pregame beer. Stopped by this bar because it was close to the wedding venue. Never knowing what to expect of a small, locals only type of a bar, I sat in the back and kept to myself at first but within minutes, the bartender and the locals sitting at the bar started talking and including me in their conversations. This place is great!! Every single person there was nice, fun, and pleasant. I also loved the ceiling!! Full of $bills$ that patrons have decorated and hung from the ceiling. There were only a few beers on tap which was fine by me because they had a Pilsner and a hazy option. They also have a full bar and the bartender was quick. read more

After checking out Johnsville and Eureka Lake, we stopped here because of the Yelp reviews. We just felt like we had to check it out. We found out this establishment has been in business since 1864 and we were told it is currently the fourth oldest tavern operating in the state of California! It was previously part of the Mohawk Hotel which sits next door and is in major disrepair. The bartender also told us this was a Eureka Peak miners hangout and part of the local community built for them. She told us of railroad barons coming to vacation in the area and staying at the hotel. The ceiling on the older part of the building is covered with dollar bills that visitors have defaced to leave a lasting memory. We did it too! We also discovered that some of them are 100 dollar bills!!! The locals and the bartender were very friendly and gave us some suggestions on other local points of interest. We are glad we stopped in and joined the many other people who have walked through the doors of "The Mo"! read more

This time the band was Battleground, from Reno and they kept us entertained all evening. The staff are great, wonderful, helpful and friendly. The establishment is clean and inviting. It's one of the only bars in the area, so there's always a fun crowd -- great atmosphere. Very friendly staff as well -- Thomas behind the bar is one of the nicest guys you'll meet in the area. Charlotte isn't going to like this but I have to let you all know my experiences at Mohawk Tavern. Our favorite dive bar decorated with so much love and history. They've got a pool table, corn holes, jukebox., flat screen TV, comfy bar stools and high top tables in semi lit room, spacious outdoor patio with all the colors you need in hanging baskets and planter boxes but that's all easy to access maybe not that lovingly. What's incredibly hard to come by is simple and honest conversations with hard working folks who genuinely accepts who you are and where you are from. The other day after a long hike my husband and I had a freak accident and came limping into the bar to chase away our pain. Charlotte made a 'his and hers' ice packs with clean bar towels to wrap and extra bar stools to rest our legs. She's only met us a few times in the past. It's a very friendly, fun, nice local pub. The kind of local "dive" bar you'll be happy to find anywhere. Cheap drinks of all kinds, a couple of local microbrews. They do a tipsy ride home if you're staying / living within a few miles. They have this cool things thing where you can write a message on a dollar bill and staple it to the ceiling. I'm a combat veteran with a service connected disability. I have a federally registered service dog who assists me in my day to day life with my disability. I entered the tavern with my dog, he had his service vest on. The bartender said no dogs allowed and when I told her it was a service dog, she said she did not care and said she would not serve anyone with a dog. I tried to explain and even show her the registration info for my service dog and she would not allow us to be in this establishment. As we left she said, I won't serve pizza next to a dog. I have been at the bar many times and never had any issues before and have seen many dogs inside the bar that were not service animals. If this is the way the Mowhawk tavern wants to treat veterans, I'll find another place to spend my money. This being said I understand many people lie about their pets being service animals and it ruins it for people who have real and verified service animals. If the bartender had an inch of compassion I would have showed her all the relevant licenses for my service dog. This establishment should review the CA ADA laws and inform their employees that they were violating state law and could have significant fines for doing so. read more

The bartender Kim is very knowledgeable and made us feel at home. Not to mention she makes the best damn Bloody Mary with a homemade spice mix. The Mohawk is the best place to discover why Plumas County is the coolest part of California. The regulars are welcoming to tourists and the summer crowd. All the employees are super friendly and deliver up great cocktails. This is not only a " beer and a shot joint" but a place for great drinks. The only down side is that Kim, who makes the best Bloody Marys in the world is off on medical leave. Kim get well soon, we need you! This is a 5 star bar every day of the week. When I think of the Toby Keith song "I love this bar", this is the first place that comes to mind! This is my absolute favorite bar of all time. My family has had a place in Graeagle for almost 30 years, and I've literally been coming up here since I was born. Since I'm a country girl at heart, I fit right in with all the locals who frequent this joint. In recent years, Graeagle has been "discovered" and thus has a lot more tourists, especially during the summer. There are always 50+ year-old golfers at the Hawk that hit on me relentlessly, but alas, this is just part of the Hawk experience if you're a young gal. Still, I love it when country's playing on the jukebox and laughing while watching the golfers try to dance.
