What a cool spot to hang out at if you're in the area! Great selection of beers, surely something for everyone. Being the middle of summer and warm out, the shandy really hit the spot. The outdoor seating can get a little warm so bring a hat or follow the shade. Staff were friendly and prices reasonable. We noticed a small stage for live music. They even have some charcoal BBQs on site if you wanted to grill something up, and if you don't they have a food truck on site. My only gripe there was the quesadilla had a very minimal amount of cheese, barely enough to hold the tortillas together. It was only a snack between beers so not a huge deal but worth mentioning. read more

When you pull into the long driveway of this quaint brew pup, your blood pressure immediately drops and calmness comes about your being. Nestled back into the woods sits a brewing building with a beer bar. They have rotating suds (6-7) on the taps, including some not-so-traditional options like hard rootbeer and hard ginger beer plus some non-alcoholic options too. The seating is all outdoors. They have bags of popcorn for snacks at the bar (for purchase) There is also an on-site food truck. They offer up good food at California prices but quite tasty I'd say. The Fish tacos from the food truck were incredible. I saw an order of the loaded twisty fries come out with pulled pork that smelled absolutely amazing! Outside they have occasional live music, grills to make your own meals and plenty of seating. There's also some hiking trails to explore and a disc golf course. Really cool place to have a cold beer and let the everyday stress melt away while sipping it in the gentle woods. Oh, and very dog friendly too. read more

This is my favorite brewery! Good beer in the forest is the best. It feels like you're getting to hang out at a good friend's property. Everyone is so friendly and they have a variety of beers that will satisfy any palette. They also have a variety of mocktails as well! I love that they serve their beer in reusable glasses instead of plastic like a lot of other places. My current favorite is the summer shandy. The Meyer lemon is so bright, refreshing and perfect for summer. The sour is also a refreshing summer sipper. They provide all sorts of games like corn hole, ping pong, and disc golf! I also love that they now have a food truck on the property for if you get hungry. Every time I'm out in the Lost Sierra I want to stop here and for one reason or another, it never happens, but it did recently and it's as awesome a venue as everyone says it is and you all NEED to stop. On a great summer adventure we finally made The Brewing Lair our last stop. The brewery itself is very small and there's no indoor seating, but there are SO MANY beautiful little venues and a huge lawn where you can sprawl out and enjoy. They have a lot of picnic tables with umbrellas for shade, large trees with adirondacks beneath them for cozy couples, and a game yard at the bottom of the property that's totally shaded with ping pong and other yard games to enjoy. They even have a lower parking area with a hiking trail up to the brewery AND a disc golf course! The brewery offers a great selection of their brews (by the pint or flight) and they also have a sizeable menu of NA drinks as well. I tries the Thai chili NA drink and it was light and refreshing. I was hoping for a bit more heat, but I id enjoy it. It's worth noting that many of the beers are hop forward styles, so if that's not your thing a pint over a flight might be the call. They also have locally made kombucha, cold brew coffee, and freshly made rosemary sea salt and sweet and salty popcorn too. If you get hungry there's a food truck on site with pub style grub like fish and chips, tacos etc. We'd planned to enjoy that but unfortunately the yellow jackets have just been brutal and they were swarming all over everything, especially anything edible, as soon as it hit a table. We did our best to avoid them but they wouldn't leave us alone and we ended up leaving. I'd love to return during a live music night or other evening activity. The whole place just felt fun and I know anyone who discovers it will fall in love too. read more

This place is a nice oasis of fine beers located in a forested area of Plumas. It's quite a long drive from Sacramento to get here, but it's definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the area. During the summer, the tiny food trailer parked to the side becomes the Ricochet Cafe. There's a swag shack with all the usual microbrewery swag, and more. (I laughed at the special knitted glove for holding a cold glass in very cold temperatures.) The Belgian Tripel ale was quite a nice discovery for my taste buds. Bursting with flavor, it hit the spot after the wintry long drive. There were a lot of nice outdoor sitting areas. However, it being winter, the tables that were near the new fire pit were more popular. The Brewing Lair is well worth a visit. read more

The Brewing Lair is a fun outdoor hang out and brewery nestled off CA-70. They host a regular rotation of ales and IPA (tending on the hoppy side mostly but I'd really enjoy seeing some experimentation). The barkeeps are pretty chill and perhaps most impressive are the wares in the gift hut like the handmade growlers and mugs. Awesome items for the trip home! There's a good amount of outdoor space perfect for a warm afternoon in the sun or shade. An open grassy area is complimented with a music stage frequently hosting a range of talent from across the West Coast. They have disc golf course surrounding the grounds though it can be challenging to locate through the bushes. read more

Stop by here the Saturday of Father's Day weekend. They had a food truck, which was a plus for a brewery. As well as multiple lawns areas with chairs, tables and benches on patios, lawn games, and even ping-pong. Loved the multigenerational atmosphere! I totally enjoyed the ginger beer, as the rest of my crew had IPAs. They also had some very creative nonalcoholic bevies, as well as flavored popcorn! This is an awesome spot tucked away in the forest off of Highway 70 near Portola/ Blairsden. They have a ton of great outdoor space and do all of their brewing in a cool building on site. They also have a disc golf course and activities like hula hoops for the kids and ping pong tables. I had the Trail of Tastes which is a flight of all 6 beers they make plus I grabbed the ginger beer and we tried the shandy. I went back and forth on five stars vs four. I only decided 4 stars because all of the beers lean on the hoppy side. Even as an avid IPA drinker, they were a bit hoppy for me. I wish there was a wider variety of beers. The sour was fantastic! Best beer by far! The NA menu here is also pretty decent. If you are in this area, I would recommend checking out the Brewing Lair. read more

Needing to have a brew after driving for an hour from Reno on a warm summer day, we decided to drop by after ordering some food from the nearby Ricochet Cafe. The service was with a smile and a hearty greeting. The beers were cold, reasonably priced, and tasted just fine. Not my favorite by any means, but pretty good. The kicker is the setting. Amidst the tall pine trees of Graeagal, you can't help but being awed by the nature around you. All sorts of different tables and chairs gives everyone the kind of ambiance that you and your group can imagine. The only reason I didn't give it a five-star is that it was not really exceptional. It was really good, but nothing that made me want to jump out of my seat and say wow. read more

It was fun to get away for the day recently for a beautiful drive to Blairsden. We knew we wanted to end up at The Brewing Lair - it had been on our radar for quite a while. It turns out that it is an especially good place to go for a beer during these Covid days. With gorgeous, relaxing views and plenty of green space between picnic tables and chairs from which to enjoy them, we picked up a couple IPAs from the tap room window and made our way across the grass to an available area to sit. Leashed dogs are welcome so we brought ours. We also picked up a pizza from a nearby restaurant and brought that, too. The parklike setting was perfect to enjoy a beautiful afternoon and several others were taking advantage of it, too, by bringing picnics, laying on blankets, or playing ping-pong. It almost felt like we were at a campground. There is even a fire pit available for use. We hope to get back here again as the weather gets nicer and perhaps even enjoy live outdoor music as restrictions start to loosen. read more

What a cool concept. Brewery in the middle of the woods with a slack line, disc golf course, ping pong tables, bags, and more! We surprisingly liked the black ipa most which we had never had before. Very dog friendly, but have your dog on a leash. Some pretty cool apparel. I had never heard of the lost sierras before going here. I'm going to have to do some more research on the origin of that. I regret that I have to give The Brewing Lair a bad review because I've had several of their excellent beers and I like to support small local businesses. Unfortunately, the management is shockingly unprofessional. In March, I made arrangements with Susan DeLano to provide two kegs of beer for my wedding on June 3rd. I was quoted a price and a delivery time and I accepted. We agreed to reconnect on May 17th to finalize the details and arrange payment. When I reached out on May 17th, Susan told me that she would only sell me a single keg because they are having a lot of demand for their product at their location, and they have standard policy to not to sell kegs in June. When I told her that this was disappointing information to receive with a little over 2 weeks to go until my wedding date and that that would have been critical information to let me know when we started emailing about my June wedding months ago, Susan then withdrew the offer of even a single keg. Attaching a screenshot of the March 28th email where she cheerfully entered into an agreement with me and never mentioned this June policy. The subject line of my email was "Beer for my wedding in June"! If you want beer from The Brewing Lair, by all means try to get some - just not at my wedding apparently. EDIT: The emails and your pettiness speak for themselves, Susan. I said that it would have been nice to have some advanced notice of your "standard policy" and then you refused to even sell me the half portion of what we agreed on. My first visit to this brewery and luckily my companion had been here before. I loved it! Bring a picnic snack or lunch, your kids, your friends,good dogs on leashes and try their beers on tap the day you visit. 5 beers on tap so we had a flight first. My two favorites were Brewing Lair Tripel and Deep Cover Black IPA. My companions favorite was Take a Hike IPA. We each had a pint of our favorite after the flight. Outdoor games a plenty with disc golf, ping pong, corn hole, slack line. Nice large fire pit,picnic tables, chairs and a couple of grills for DIY BBQ. Swag shack with some cool shirts and other goodies to purchase. The land is tiered so all works under the beautiful pines. Look for the turn off before the turn to Blairsden and Greagle. Hyped as a super chill brewery in the mountains, my experience fell quite short & I can honestly say I'll never go back. No one greeted us when we arrived. There were two sets of customers (4-5 people) when we got there. Looked as though there were 6-8 employees standing around. All of them made eye contact with us & nothing else. No smiles, no welcome to the brewery. I guess they were too busy to greet new guests. Ambiance? The decor is pretty much picnic tables outdoors. No music, just the soft sounds of wind through the trees. Outhouses & porta potties? Interesting choice for a business. You run water presumably to the brewery, but can't manage indoor plumbing for your guests to use the facilities & wash their hands? Cornhole boards are tattered & worn. Time to replace them was a year or two ago. Food truck on-site did not appear to be cooking anything fresh? No smell of food being cooked even as people ordered & received food. Doesn't seem to be much of a draw at all. No lunch crowd. Their beer is overpriced, hoppy & bitter; true to the style of beer they're brewing, but why is there no option on the menu for a light beer drinker? I'm guessing the owner is extremely pleased with what they have built, but I'd rather be elsewhere. Cheers! read more
