Who would have thunk that Etna Brewing is one of the oldest establishments in CA they even have a plaque to prove it (or great marketing). We found this place while hiking the surrounding trails, great spot to come in, cool off with a frosty beer. We already had dinner and regretted not coming here for the great looking burgers (next time) the Mexican lager they pour was outstanding, crisp, clean and a nice citrusy finish. We ended up picking up a few 4 packs. Definitely planning on returning next hiking trip. read more

2025! New Years brewery visit! Always a great time! We had the pulled pork sliders. Delicious!! Also shared the Garlic Thunder burger with tater tot's. Delicious!! We Always have great service. Watched Notre Dame win the Sugar bowl while eating a delicious meal. Enjoyed great beer and great ambiance on the patio with heat lamps and fire. Please bring back the pretzels. I went to etna brewery and it was an excellent experience , the food was good and the town gives a small town vibe. I got the Notorious P.I.G which was a pizza. Overall the waitress was nice as well. The place was great, the prices were a bit high. If I go to etna again I will definitely visit this place! read more

So glad that Etna Brewing is back in business! And it's just as good as ever! Most importantly the Blackberry Blonde is just as it's ever been. *Big sigh of relief.* They've also got some new beers which are also interesting. The Etna Ale and the Help-Hazy were both quite nice (but I'm sticking with my Blackberry Blonde as the all time favorite). Food is good (better than before) too! I got the Nashville Hot Fire Pork Chop Sandwich which had super interesting flavor. Tots were good and fried. I also thought the wings were decent. Solid 4 out of 5 on the wings. Portions were good on all of it. Again, so so glad they are back in business - now they just need to start bottling again! read more

Tried them out for lunch. Had the stuffed mushrooms and Brussels and blue salad. The mushrooms were superb. The Brussels' and blue salad was so delicious. Had the Blackberry blonde which I love. The beer is flawless and the Cubano is spot on perhaps better than most but definitely a twist on it but the pulled pork they put on it is miraculous. The tater tots also perfection. read more

Went on a huge motorcycle ride from Redding with nine riders. I told everyone we were going to Etna brewing and when we arrived, our party looked at me like I was insane because it doesn't look like a flashy restaurant. Everyone's attitude immediately changed when Lisa delivered the first round of amazing beer! The afternoon lunch went through the roof when they brought out their wonderfully amazing delicious food. I cannot sing the praises of Etna brewing enough! If you are traveling in Northern California, do not miss the opportunity to go to Etna brewing. read more

But I did try the Sno-Wooki Stout (which may have been a one-time release) and it was delicious! Apparently, they add espresso (coffee!) which adds a caffeine kick and a deep, roasty flavor to this very well-rounded stout. read more

I want give more stars, and I'm really glad the new owners saved this place from the train wreck that it had become, but setting the bar higher wouldn't hurt. First, so glad to have the brewery back in the running. Classic Etna Ale and Blackberry Blond delivered, but the IPAs (Triple sold out, so that might have made the day) were not remarkable or even in contending with many State of Jefferson which includes names like Solid Ground and Fall River now, so take note. Service was over the top excellent, and that was also way up from the fly trap gristle wrap people who owned it before. Given the talent running the place I expect the product to improve. The meats are excellent, but the house sauces aren't designed to pair with beers, and the slaw seemed to lack zest and knife-work, the beans were bland. The IPAs that I took home tasted much better than the tap, so there might have been a localized issue. Hazy and Mossback both delicious. read more

When I first moved back to the north state, I remember having this delicious blackberry blonde beer that I absolutely loved. Etna was pretty far out of the way so I just drank their beer when I could find it and was a happy camper. Fast forward a few years and now you can find that Blackberry Blonde on tap in many places along the I-5. But if you don't head to the brewery in the small town of Etna, you are missing out!! They are so much more than their most well-known beer. This is a small, craft brewery with BIG skills. We made the trip out a couple weeks ago and would gladly make that drive again. They have many styles of beer and the kitchen serves up very delicious food! The outdoor patio area is cute and comfortable and everyone we met was so nice and welcomed us like we were family. I've been here more times than I can count, I will continue to be a loyal custie when I'm in the neighborhood. My in laws first introduced me to this place and I've never been please. It's a hidden gem in the green valleys of the Northern California mountains. It's small, but plenty of room for the crowd of locals that stop by. Everyone here is incredibly friendly and deliver such great hospitality. The Blackberry Blonde is forever my favorite beer, it will be yours too. Wow! I've been to plenty of breweries and have never had anything like it. I always pair this with the Blue Cheeseburger or the Black Forest Ham Sandwich, which is out of this world delicious! You could never possibly be disappointed when you come to this adorable and super cool place. The beers and dishes are reasonably priced. The only thing that makes me sad is you MUST have their growlers to fill up on your favorites which can get pricey. My husband and I have a growler but we live in Lake Tahoe and don't get to visit as often as we'd like. Stocking up on our favorites would be wonderful. They do sell tall glass bottled beer which makes up tremendously for it. Please make the 20+ mile trip west from the I-5 to absorb the scenery and make a pit stop at this magnificent brewery/restaurant. Free WiFi is available and dog friendly on the patio. I first tried this place about 15ish years ago, and remember it being good. Lately one of my Facebook friends has been RAVING about the food here, so I gave it another try today as I was ambling home to the coast. The outdoor seating was well-shaded, though this time, I chose to eat inside at the bar, as it was a record-breaking 100+ degree day. I was a woman with a mission, having seen the Cuban Sando in pics online, and it did not disappoint. It is spicy with both a nice kick, and great flavor as well. The roll was great, the brined meat was superb. My eating strategy changed when I saw another gal order banana pudding. I put the other half of my Cuban in a box, and dug into what is the best banana pudding I've ever eaten, which is saying a lot since I was raised by people from both Texas and Georgia. The pudding had a great subtle flavor, without being overly sweet. There was the requisite vanilla wafer-type cookie in the bottom of the cup, but the coup de gras was the addition of pretzel bits and pistachios atop this custard treat. The savory nuance of the nutty and salty flavors as well as the change in texture made an already great banana pudding phenomenal. I also wound up ordering a 16-hour brisket sandwich to go because it sounded so good. I didn't eat it until I returned home, and it did not disappoint. Unlike many briskets which are doused in sugary sauces, this brisket was seasoned with salt and pepper, which allows the natural flavor of the meat to headline the meal. The brisket had just the right amount of fat to flavor the meat without being a mushy mess in my mouth. I ordered a beer sampler, trying the perennial favorite-the Blackberry Blonde, the Heli-Hazy, the Phoenix Red, and the Export Lager. Each was a top-notch beer in its own rite, and would happily drink any of them again. My favorite was the Heli-Hazy, which had a nice light finish to it, but with a quick kick. I wound up ordering a pint of the Phoenix Red, because it is a lower ABV than the Heli-Hazy, and I still had about three and a half hours of driving to do. The Phoenix Red is a hearty beer with the mellow taste one expects from a red ale. The Export Lager was good as well, and would be a great beer for an outdoor BBQ. The Blackberry Blonde pairs great with the banana pudding! I also got a growler full of non-alcoholic root beer for floats later this week. The atmosphere of the place is wonderful. The service is great, and the staff is knowledgeable about all the food and beer they are serving. A charming addition is if you seat yourself inside, you are likely to get a front row seat to the goings-on of small town Etna. You'll know who just had a baby (on this day, it was the couple sitting in the corner as well as the bearded man sitting at the bar, who is a cook at the Italian place down the road), who just graduated from high school (the sweet girl who picked up a food order to go) and whose herd of cattle had a great calfing season this year (the guy sitting down the bar from me). Found this gem and had to rave about the delicious FOOD and tasty flight of beers. We ordered the tender and wonderfully seasoned, peppery brisket with a luscious side of BBQ beans, tangy collard greens and the absolute best pickled veggies ever. The super crispy wings were just as delightful, bathed in a special sweet heat sauce. We left in a food coma and took home some bread pudding and homemade root beer along with a 6 pack of Blueberry Ale and a Growler of Helli Hazy. Very satisfied1st timers!!!! read more

Visited the pub yesterday during our annual trip to the Trinity Alps. The food, beer, and atmosphere was wonderful as always. I enjoyed the Ortega Beef sandwich with a side green salad. Lots of food. I have been a fan of the Old Grinder for years. Bought a couple of 22oz. bottles for the cabin. Murphy, my Belgian shepherd, behaved at our table outside. Will return if I come back next year. LOVE this place! My parents have a cabin up above Mount Shasta City so we head up there on weekends for a mini-vacation during the summer. We cycle together and we also do what we call "Tour de Etna." We start our ride in Fort Jones and afterwards we drive a little ways down to Etna and enjoy some beer and food after a hard ride. The food they serve here is far from bar food. They have a pretty expansive menu with lots of vegetarian options. The food is also very fresh. I always order the Burly Beef sandwich. It has really good quality roast beef, horseradish sauce, grilled peppers and red onions on dark wheat bread. My sister is a vegan and even she had options besides a salad. They have several vegetarian options, but its even harder for vegans. She order the Hummus Sandwich with no cheese and got it in a tortilla instead of on bread. Of course the main reason we come is the beer! When they have it available, try the Sno-Wooki. I always order the Blackberry Blonde. They also have a little sampler so you can pick your favorite, or if you just can't decide between 2 beers, the servers will let you sample each for free. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is the service. We usually have GREAT service but this last time our server wasn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box. We had our meals on 2 tickets since I was treating my dad for Father's Day and my mom and sister were on their own ticket. She charged me for 3 beers when I only had 2 and charged my mom/sister for 4 beers and they only had 3. And forgot my dad's iced tea. But other than this last server, the food, beer and ambiance (outdoor patio!) are great. read more

Came in after a long hike on the PCT and was excited to try great beer. The server was friendly and very attentive. We ordered a variety of beers and some food. The beers were tasty but they were not cold. Also one of their flagship beers , the double cross, was not on tap. The chips and salsa tasted store bought. We order their $60.00 dinner for four which included six slices of brisket, half a chicken, a side of coleslaw and and side of beans. The beans were good. The brisket was mostly fat and the remaining meat was very chewy. The chicken was over cooked so very dry. We'd go back for the beer but not the food.... read more

My husband and I only went to kill time before eating dinner at another restaurant so we didn't eat much food but what we had was AMAZING. We ordered the sausage cheddar biscuit bites which come with a maple chili sauce, probably the best thing I've eaten in my life. We also got the tots with pickle salt and you can't really screw up tots so those were also delicious. They have nine beer options and I got the beer flight so I was able to choose four of the beers.
