My husband, our dogs and I were originally going to a different rv park which seemed a bit sketch. We found this one and instantly fell in love. Absolute highlight of our trip. We stayed two nights in the rv area and was helped out by Larry who personally guided us to our spot. Very clean including the restrooms, cute store, fantastic restaurant (be sure to make reservations ahead of time, it can get busy). Loved the park decor and a great location to explore from.

Best kept secret in beautiful Dunsmuir. This was my first experience visiting Jubilee Railroad with my wife and parents and we had a wonderful experience. The train caboose was great and clean such a unique feeling living and sleeping in a train caboose. The food in the train car was amazing.Definitely will come back again and make more memories. Btw taste the water Dunsmuir is known as "Worlds cleanest water" and it does taste great. Highly recommend visiting the local waterfalls and seeing some amazing views. Highly recommend visiting in September when the Hot Air Ballon Festival in Montague is happening which we just happen to book our stay that weekend.

My husband surprised me by getting us a reservation at this place and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. It was so cute, as we pulled into the park there were about 10-15 colorful train cars and cabooses. Each one was your "room" for the night, and you parked along side of it. They were super cute inside! All wood, several windows, large bed, nice sized bathroom and decorated with train pictures. The park was really clean with lots of families biking, playing in the pool, or just walking around the park.

Wasn't too sure what to expect, but was totally enchanted! Frank was great, checking us in, loading firewood into my car and escorting us to our charming creekside campsite. Had an incredible 5-star dinner prepared by Chef Adam in the lovely dining car with excellent service provided by Suzie. The food was so good, we went back for breakfast and then took our friends to dinner there!

Staying in the caboose was really a lot of fun. It was clean and nice and warm. The grounds are very well kept, and we enjoyed our stay. The only negative was our Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant. My salad was quite good, as it was a pea salad, but I had no time to finish it before my entrée arrived. As most people know Thanksgiving dinners out can be amazing. They can be lackluster or they can just be ho hum. I would put ours in that last category. I didn't get any cranberries. I like my gravy on my stuffing not on my potatoes, which tasted like that came out of a box. I would go again because the area around it is beautiful, but I would figure some other way to eat.

It's such a fun stop!! I've never stayed in a train and it's definitely better than I imagined. The diner is great. It has live music, full bar and great food! The crispy Brussels sprouts has a fried egg on top which actually tasted really great! I was told they just redesigned the whole menu. If you have been here before, definitely worth coming back to try the new menu!

Such a cute spot! My friends and I absolutely loved this hotel. Comfortable beds, very friendly staff, delicious menu options. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night! I would definitely return and recommend this place.

First time visiting. The lodge grounds are big and beautiful. We loved the creek running through the grounds with butterflies and frogs. The little waterfall with the lily pads was delightful. The rooms are spacious and have comfortable beds. Lots of windows. In the room there is a Tv, microwave, and a fridge that kept our drinks nice and cold. We had dinner in the restaurant which is on the grounds of the lodge; ambience on point with live music. Pricey but worth it, and our server was superb. There is so much to see and do. Games to play and there was even a movie night with fresh popcorn being served. The lodge is not far from several waterfalls. We visited Hedge Creek and it was glorious and magnificent, small hike. Also not far from Historic Dunsmuir. Friendly town where we ate breakfast and dinner on our last night. Overall, all that we did and saw was worth every dollar. We plan to return in the future for more adventures.

Beautiful area to stop.

We wanted a nice stop 1/2 way between Bend and Sacramento and the Railroad Park did not disappoint! The honeymoon car was roomy and full of interesting touches. The hot tub was clean and hot. But best of all was a great dinner in their authentic railroad car restaurant. Excellent bar and table service. Excellent food. The sax and rhythm jazz duo was perfect. Loved the bossa nova & posh classics from the 50s. To top it off there was a Halloween haunted car (it was 10/29) it was lots of fun. The Adam's Family Movie was playing on a big screen in the courtyard among the gas heaters. Five Stars. A real gem of a place. 10 miles south of Mt Shasta. Gorgeous trails and waterfalls nearby.

This place is incredible, especially for families with young kids! The dining car doesnt have a big menu, but the food I did have & drinks were great! The kids menu was perfect as well. We stayed in caboose #20, the only one with a deck overlooking the pool. It was perfect and the main hangout spot for the other families we were with. The pool area/picnic tables were in the perfect location as was the little stream and bridge the kids played in. For reference i have a 3 and 2 year old. My nephew even caught some tadpols and frogs! This is a great spot for families, cant wait to come back.

Came for happy hour and the experience of eating and drinking in a train because c'mon now who wouldn't want to. Our bar tender/ waitress Ray was awesome. She gave good suggestions on which wings to get. The blackberry jalapeño BBQ wings were freaking delicious, it was such a good sauce combo. And these weren't some puny tiny wings these were some massive ones, so yes we were definitely pleased. I loved the margarita. Our bartender made it perfectly. It was a pretty cool dining experience in the train car. Dimly lit and vintage train decor. Nice touch for October with kind of a haunting vibe. Would 10/10 recommend.

Only gripe was the tv cutting out of service. Not so crowded either. I would've stayed another night but in all honesty there's not much else to do. Room 10 in the tastefully restored midcentury motel was our choice because it offers arctic AC! Seriously, this small LG unit is quiet and effective! The two queen beds were perfect. We pushed them together to make a giant family bed for our two enormous beasts. Don't worry, we are seasoned travelers and brought king sheets to put on top for the dogs. The mattresses are memory foam! We love them as we have a tempurpedic at home. The train is far enough in the distant from this room that it's quite pleasant to hear the sound across the river. Make your coffee and stroll over to view Mount Shasta from the benches provided in the morning, but the really photo op is just after sunset when the mountain glows. Note, the pine tree sap will drip on your vehicle if you park in the designated spot for room 10. If you back in, it gets on the windshield. Nose first, not so much. We travel with windex and microfiber cloth, so we were prepared. What's nice is all the options for a stay at this resort. If you want a cabin with a hot tub it's available, or an Airstream, the have rows of them. It's a nice walk down to the botanical gardens and the river. This would be an ideal location for a group event. Many folks recommended coming back in the Fall, so hope to return again.

This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.

The staff were friendly and the entire check in process was easy. For the price, we got an individual tiny cabin with two bedrooms and a bath. The staff informed us that the lake had been drained to help fight recent California wildfires, so that made me feel a little bit better. Anyways, the cabin was clean and everything you would need for a nice relaxing stay. My biggest qualm was that the hot water did not work so we were not able to take a shower (unless it was ice water cold). All the other reviews (thus far every one 5 stars) are true and on point. There is no hyperbole and…read morethere is no way I can describe Mountain Meadow adequately. So let me take another tack and make sure that this is the place for you. First off, Mountain Meadow Resort isn't for everyone. If you can't be unplugged and off the grid, this place isn't for you. Seriously, there is no wi-fi, your smartphones are only useful as cameras because there is no cell signal, and the generator that provides electricity only runs from 6:30am to 11pm. Bookings typically go from Saturday to Saturday so if the prospect of not being able to check your texts, voicemail, e-mail and social media for a week gives you the heebee jeebees, then this place is not for you. Second, this place is remote. The resort is most definitely in the WILDerness. In the four years that I've gone I've come across black bears and been within spitting distance of a rattle snake, rattle going off, coiling and ready to strike. The nearest medical facility is 2 hours away by car. And that's not counting the fact that you could be half a dozen miles into a hike away from the resort and your parked car when you get injured. If that seems a bit too off the beaten track for you, then this place is not for you. ...Still reading? Then you must be adequately intrigued as to why people go and keep coming back to this wonderful place. And if the you're not scared off then you will likely fall in love with this place as I have. Read on if you want my attempt to add information you might be hoping to gleam from reading these reviews. This is a family run camp. Decades ago a group of families bought the place and ran it together. Their children now run the resort and while you're there you'll likely see the next generation starting to help out as well. Staff all have a direct connection to the resort via family, being visitors in years past themselves when they were younger, or being recruited by one of the first two categories. What that means is that your initial visit feels like you're an interloper at a family reunion, but on repeated trips you begin to feel that you too are part of the family, because you truly are. That sentiment permeates through and is felt not just by my wife and me but by my kids as well. I would love it if my kids worked here when they're older and if I could spend extended time helping out after I retire, whenever that is. Days can be spent on hikes, strenuous or relaxing. Obviously the former will reward you with amazing views. Unlike, say Yosemite, you could do your whole hike and never come across another group. If you do, it certainly will only be a handful. There are lakes to swim in and vistas to take in. The resort is positioned so that you can make a day hike where others will often have to backpack in and out. Sometimes you'll be tempted to backpack yourself and maybe stay over a night or two but what always draws me back is the food - homemade and delicious. Dinners are amazing. Lastly, the kids love it because of the independence and being outdoors. The "kids dinner" before the "adult one" is as much a highlight for the parents as it is the kids. More importantly my tech savvy kids being raised in the heart of Silicon Valley have no qualms with Mountain Meadow being a "screen free" place. And that alone makes our annual trip worth it.
