The coffee and paninis were a-okay. $20 bucks for lunch is pretty steep. I was surprised by their more extensive patio on the side of the building, at first I was disappointed because I assumed the tables out front was the extent of outdoor seating. read more

I like the vibe of the place, but the coffee had a flavor I did not really like. I can not describe it, but it was kind of "earthy"... man, I hate that word, but it is what describes it best to me. I had the iced coffee, but maybe the other stuff is good. Big thumbs up for the people that work there though! Really helpful and seemed cool to chat with. read more

I like this coffee shop. I came here in a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy. We were lucky to get to sit in the side patio. The interior is kinda modern style and looks pretty nice. I ordered a vanilla latte and it was really good. I enjoyed my visit there and I will come back for breakfast sometimes. read more

Parking lot fills up quick , by 8am it's full. The place was surprisingly big. Walk up to the counter to order. There are yummy desserts in the counter, but you have to tip toe to see the macaroons (from Bite macaroons) in the high counter if you're 5ft 4 in and under. The vanilla latte (mildly sweetened) was really good, the black currant macaron was ok, the big sea salt chewy chocolate chip cookie was really good & the stuffed avocado was good if you added salt & pepper. There are plenty of seats. I'd be back for their coffee and try other desserts. read more

Great neighborhood spot! I like coming to Siphon on Saturday mornings for a flat white and a breakfast taco. Nothing too fancy, but it always hits the spot. Spent most of last Sunday working on my computer here, drinking Americanos, and eating their empanadas. The coffee is good, and the pastries are scratch made. Nothing is cheap here, but I was impressed with both the food and coffee. I wish the place had a little more space. Also, the stools, which comprise most of the seating, are not so comfortable. Try to grab one of the leather chairs if you're in for a long work session. Last, there could be more sockets But if you need a place with great coffee and good pastries to fuel long session with your laptop, this will fit the bill. Others have complained about parking. It's possible that it's bad. I was lucky to grab the last spot in the lot when I rolled in. read more

When a coffee shop is named after a type of brewing, the expectation for that brew is really high - I think Siphon does a great job at it! Siphon brewing results in a really pure cup of coffee. I usually dump a sugar or two in mine, but I drank this black - the coffee had just enough sweetness where sugar wasn't necessary. Plus, the apparatus they use is just so damn cute. The interior of Siphon is pretty modern, and there are plenty of windows that let in lots of light. It's kind of intimate in the sense that a lot of the seating is close together, but the windows really help open up the space. There's also outdoor seating for those rare nice days in Houston. One knock on Siphon is that service is just a bit on the slow side - fortunately, you can just grab a seat, and they'll yell your name whenever it's ready, but you'll probably listen attentively since sound resonates a little TOO well in here (i.e., it's a little loud). Additionally, a siphon brew takes a while, especially how they only have 3 machines, but I think it's definitely worth the wait. You can have the option to have a siphon for 1 (I poured 2 cups) or 2 (probably 4 cups?). Siphon for 1 is $7, siphon for 2 is $11. I really dig the atmosphere of Siphon, and I anticipate coming back to have a relaxing cup of coffee. read more

This is strictly a review of customer service. The quality of products at Siphon Coffee has always been excellent in all my visits. This is specifically a review for the morning (10-11am) of January 18th, the three girls working the registers- complete and absolute unprofessionalism. She took our order with an annoyed looked on her face (we literally just got there, so something must have happened before). Kept asking us "is that it" as if we were taking forever- it's not like we were ordering a whole bunch of items, or that it was busy. The order came out with issues- and one of the ladies thought we were "cutting" and said "we go in order here" rudely. We were simply asking where our order was because they said the same exact name of another order, and was just simply clarifying it. The rest of our order subsequently came 45 min later (no exaggerating here) as it seemed like they were purposely trying to delay the rest of our order. Apparently, they don't do this because we saw people who came after us get their orders. Additionally, while waiting for our order, we could clearly here them talking about their customers and how "dumb" everyone is because they don't know where to put their dirty dishes (where there clearly isn't a sign anywhere). Stay away from this place- customer service is horrible. read more

This place was so unique. It's a really cute hip coffee shop with a beautiful space great for studying or chilling with peeps! The baristas seriously know their shit! It was really fun talking to them and learning about the siphon brewing process. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but if I was.. I think this place would be my heaven. It's really fun to see the water pushed up when they do their siphon brewed coffee. The barista told me that it was for a better black coffee flavor. I didn't try it because I'm not a fan of black coffee so it would be wasted on me. I did try their vanilla latte and it was a very delicious staple latte. My friend got the macchiato and it was the most interesting set up I have ever seen! It was split up in a foam with espresso, foam with espresso and milk , and then seltzer water to cleanse the palette. crazy! Overall I loved this place...they're all about that coffee. read more

I used to come into Siphon pretty frequently to work on Sunday's. Today as I was driving by, I found myself craving one of their green onion scones and came in. The daily savory scone had bacon, so I opted for a potato empanada as I am a vegetarian. I was under the impression the order came with 2 empanadas and chimichurri for $6. What I received was one TINY empanada that had both under salted and undercooked potatoes inside. I was very disappointed with this experience. I am including a photo to show the size. It is not justify-able that an empanada half the size of my palm is worth $6 as much as I want to be forgiving. read more

Siphon Coffee - Bei keeps telling me to take a walk, so tonight, i decided to take a long detour to the oft-vaunted Siphon Coffee on West Alabama. - Cafes Near Me - Houston, Texas

I've had this little gem bookmarked for several months and finally gave it a try this past Saturday. Before visiting Siphon, I was not familiar with siphon brewing but I am usually game for trying new things so I asked the barista to explain the process. Essentially, the owner has purchased a $13,000 brewer from Japan that uses halogen bulbs rather than an open flame to heat the siphon. The siphon makes a full-immersion coffee where all the grounds are immersed in the water at one time, resulting in a smoother, sweeter, less bitter coffee. The barista said they are the only coffee shop in Texas that uses this method and one of 15 coffee shops in the U.S. I was quite intrigued so I ordered the "siphon for one." The barista recommended I drink the coffee black to experience the greatness of the siphon. I am used to my cream and sugar but I took her advice! It took about 10 minutes for the coffee to brew, which was fine for me. The coffee came with a small glass to pour my coffee into and enough for 2 refills. I did not add cream and sugar and drank it black. I am glad I did! The coffee was quite smooth and sweet. I was impressed. Maybe next time I will add a little bit of stevia because I'm just like that. For food, I quickly scanned the display case for gluten-free and was pleased to find the Fluffer Nutter. The cookies were moist and dense and the peanut butter filling was perfectly sweet. It complimented my coffee well. Almost every seat was taken when my friend and I searched for a spot but after a couple of minutes of waiting, we found 2 comfortable seats. Since this place is next to St. Thomas University, there were lots of students studying, which makes for a quieter environment. I much prefer quiet to loud and bustling so I was satisfied. If you're looking for something quite opposite Starbucks and you enjoy new experiences, give Siphon a try! read more

Close to the Montrose/Westheimer melting pot, Siphon was next on my target list of coffee places to try. It was a bit tough finding parking around there, but it wasn't that bad. I walked in and the place was jam packed and loud. I had a few moments to look at their menu and I ordered an iced coffee with a shot of vanilla flavoring and a cappuccino. I was lucky enough to find a spot to sit at the window bar. Seriously, it was that busy lol! Finally my order was ready and I added a little cream to my iced coffee before sitting down. The iced coffee was pretty good as far as iced coffees are concerned. I liked the vanilla notes in it. The cappuccino was also pretty good as well. But I didn't get to really enjoy them the way I had liked to because it was so loud and busy. This isn't their fault of course and it just wasn't what I was expecting. If you're a student looking for a spot to work on school projects and don't mind the crowd then this place is great. But if you're looking for a more laid back kinda place then you may or may not like it, or if you don't like crowded places. Service was good and the drinks were good.. I'd definitely stop by to order something to go next time I am around here. read more

A wonderful, clean, tasty, and chic coffee house! Service is usually friendly and really funny if it's the tall dude, and seating (both indoor and classy outdoor) are usually clean. Macchiato is traditional (barista explained it's the Italian style); with the one-shot with milk, another shot of espresso (no milk) and the carbonated water to cleanse palate. I'm sure I messed up the order/ process but it was a fun experience. It was a good bitter and not to the point of sourness like some places. I didn't feel like there was enough seating, but I came with a group of 4 and we sat on the bar that had little to no work space. No docking points for that since I would come here to just take in the atmosphere. The best part was the cookie: sea salt chocolate chip chunk cookie. ooo nom nom nom. a little sip here and a big cookie bite there... the perfect caffeine and sugar fix! There's a pac-man machine :) Next time I'll actually try the Siphon Coffee...when I have a table. Clumsiness and fancy glassware not for me on a bar. The workers are oh-so friendly and explained everything. Genuine smile and seemed really chill...like, if they had downtime, they'd come sit and chat with you... (just guessing though?!?) read more

Average coffee and I was less than impressed with the service. My first trip there I'm not sure how it works. The guy taking my order was very accomodative despite my ordering breakfast during lunch hours! But when my buzzer went off I had a very different interaction with another employee. I asked if the plate on the counter was mine - to verify before taking and digging in. The employee said "if your buzzer went off and this is the only plate up here it must be yours." Probably right, silly me. But he couldn't help himself I suppose. "You ordered the ham? That's ham right there so obviously that's yours." I'd had enough of feeling dumb by then. Tact is making your point without making an enemy. Especially when I asked a (too?) simple yes or no question. So a few months later I was invited to a coffee meetup here. My cashier who also served me was kind and funny, and no snarky jabs. I played it safe with a drip coffee and concentrated on the awesome company of women I was in. The vibe, ambiance and coffee were good. I'll continue to patronize this establishment in light of my most recent positive visit. read more

Mocha needs a bit of sweet for me but the artistry and smooth flavor are very nice. Free wifi with password. Variety of seating and open but not loud. Outdoor seating as well. Banana bread is good and they warmed it for me. Nice! Good pricing for the size. That helps the wallet for sure. All sorts of people so that's cool. Always nice to meet new people. Happy staff that are there to make sure you enjoy your product and your time with Siphon. Lots of bakery items aside of the coffee. So the banana bread inside tasted good but the crust was hard as a rock. Not sure if they cooked too long but tough to get through for me. I like moist bread. The mocha latte was good but not my favorite. I would come back and try different items before I decide to make the trip here in the future. read more

Stopped by Siphon Coffee due to the great reviews and decided to order an Oat Milk Latte. The staff working at Siphon were extremely friendly and kind. Unfortunately the latte itself was subpar. I don't think it was the espresso itself, but rather the brand of oat milk they used. It looked like they maybe used the HEB oat milk, which was extremely watery and did not taste great. Because of all the stellar reviews of Siphon and ambiance of the shop itself, I would definitely go back and try a less milk heavy drink or know to order another alternative milk instead of oat. read more

I LOVE this place! Whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to stop and get my ice latte here. Everyone knows there are many choices in the neighborhood but this place is always consistent and has great coffee. Although always busy, the line usually moves along pretty quickly. Parking is a little challenging sometimes. All the employees are always delightful and helpful with the menu. There's nothing worse than needing your coffee and having to deal with snotty baristas who think they are God's gift to the world. They also have amazing pastries. I have now tried the Carrot Cake and the Banana Loaf with their amazing cream cheese with a hint of orange. Both are absolutely to die for! And most recently I got the Spicy Maple latte and holy crap! I keep trying to find reasons to get back to the area just to grab another one even though I don't live anywhere near. My understanding is they make all of their flavored syrups in house and you can certainly taste that in the beverages. The place is comfy and has plenty of places to sit with your laptop, book or have a chat and talk smack with one of your girlfriends. Be aware... they are CASH LESS. read more

Overal I would rate the coffee a 6/10 it was kinda bitter, bland, overrated. The almond milk was thin and was a pinch to light . Stopped by here on a rainy day, my fiancé isn't much of a coffee drinker but I am. Saw coffee being brewed via the siphon (their namesake) and ordered one for two people. It yields about 2 cups per person. That was some lovely pure tasting coffee. I drink my coffee with just sugar, no cream, so this was right up my ally. It was rich, but not too rich, and strong. I actually felt awake and not jittery. Not what I drink coffee for but it's an added bonus. Even my fiancé was impressed with the grade of the coffee. My fiancé and I shared a BLT panini with salad on the side. Tasted great. It did cost my 25 dollars though so just be carful what exactly you order. The atmosphere is better than Starbucks in my opinion but I guess that because I'm tired of seeing Starbucks. Service is super! My, my, my! Talk about adorable and trendy! Siphon is the cutest hub for top-notch coffee, plentiful snacks, and fun people-watching. I ordered a gingerbread latte, and I was IN LOVE with it. I also loved checking out the unique coffee making techniques and overall enjoying the hipster coffee vibe. If you're planning on gifting yourself with all that is Siphon, I would definitely recommend wearing your mask between bites and sips. The coffee is alright. I like the interior and outdoor seating area. I would give 4 stars if it wasn't for the obnoxious EDM mixes playing. Never coming here again. I've ordered breakfast tacos for myself and side scrambled eggs for my pups for a couple years and they are consistently burned, over-cooked, and inedible at times. Last week I threw out a slice of quiche as it was nearly black on the bottom and top, and multiple times I've half-finished my tacos and tossed them as the were rubbery from being over-cooked, and about half the orders for side scrambled eggs for my dogs get thrown out as they are burnt to brown and rubbery. In general Houston has terrible food and restaurants, and trying to find a decent breakfast or lunch around town has been way too damn difficult. This place is just a scene for the locals who will put up with bad food to make a statement-- more power to you I guess. For the rest just trying to grab food on the go, this is an utter garbage heap. Previous: Terrible WiFi, slow and cannot get VPN to connect due to speeds and config so any traffic and sensitive data are exposed to others on the network. Eggs are always over-cooked, once even dark brown and hard on the bottom and when I asked for it to be redone, a bald worker resentfully asks what was wrong with the burnt food; gee, not everyone likes a side of cancer with their tacos. Soups made with tap water. The coffee is good. Again, no organic milk, just the cheap stuff in plastic containers. Most of the staff are legit--maybe just that one guy is a 'bad egg'. read more

Siphon is a cool coffee shop, but it gets really crowded and can be a bit noisy when there are working groups or multiple people on phone calls. It can also get noisy due to the music being played inside - sometimes they turn it up a bit loud but I'm totally here for the vibes. I don't recommend going there to work unless you have don't have Zoom meetings or unless you are okay with the slightly elevated background noise. Otherwise, if you're looking for a place to put in headphones, zone out, and get shit done this is a great coffee shop to do so. This is also a place that's great for group studying or coffee dates. They have an extensive coffee menu, a nice selection of team, and they also offer wine and beer. There's lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, but if you're going with a larger group (2 or more) be conscious of the fact that it may not be easy to find a spot - it really just depends on the time and day that you arrive. Large group areas consist of the couch areas as well as the two large tables that are inside. Outdoors has booths and two larger tables in the back area. The staff has always been friendly to me. The restroom has always been clean. I love Siphon coffee. My only complaint would be the volume (sometimes) and amount of people who are there at once. read more
