I've been stopping here with my son at least once a week since late July '21, when we moved in around the corner. The owners are serious about high-quality tea, great on its own or mixed, with or without boba or other additions. They go to the tea estates to source their Chinese black tea. As a tea-lover, I applaud this, and I enjoy discussing tea culture with them. The owners run the shop in colder weather, when people forget they offer special hot drinks, and hot teas, caffè lattes, and Vietnamese coffee. In the hotter months, the staff expands. The decor is subtle, the music never interferes with thought or speech, good amount of outside light. The tea mocktails are some of my favorites, usually juices or purées with green tea, sometimes jasmine green. I'd love some Moroccan tea, made with gunpowder green tea and fresh spearmint (peppermint is too strong), but it's not from Asia. Drink sizes are 16 (hot and cold) or 24 (cold only) oz. There's teaware, full leaf teas found on the menu (we love ancient black at home for iced tea), baked mochi treats, and tea jellies. We bring our own tea tumblers, more rigid than the plastic cups they use. There are often tea "barista" classes on weekends before they open for customers, should you like to learn something more exotic. On weekends and Mondays, they open at noon, otherwise it's 11am. read more

I drive by Sinceretea all the time either going to/returning home from the main street of Japantown (Jackson Ave). Street parking only. They offer inside and outdoor seating if you prefer. The decor is simple and clean. The pricing is a bit pricey but that's what you pay for quality tea. *Pink Lady: organic green tea, rose jam, guava juice (added house-made rose jelly +$1.00). What an amazing experience! We just got to enjoy workshop one of three in learning the intricacies of tea. Of the three core types of tea (black, green, and oolong), the first class focuses on black teas. Jenny (store owner) is great at walking us step-by-step through different techniques in making tea, ranging from cold brew to making our own tea concentrate and mintea hibiscus specialtea. This is a great chill environment to learn about the nuances of tea! If you enjoy making your own tea, or just wanna learn more about tea, this is a great beginner class introduction to black tea! This is a hidden boba shop that blends in with their neighbors and community. I've always drove past but never took a chance to try it out until today. I stopped by on a Thursday around 4pm. It looked like a slow day. The interior isn't huge but if you're looking for a place to sit down and do some work, this is a great spot. I ordered a Berry Merry which is green tea, tasted like jasmine, strawberry puree, and randomly orange juice. I ordered it less sweet and it was perfect for me. The tea was strong and slightly bitter, then you taste the sweetness of the strawberry puree. The orange juice was pretty subtle but it did pair well with the drink and added a slight tartness. Next time I would try some of their toppings. The service was pretty fast, it took less than 3 minutes for me to receive it. As I was ordering, I saw samples for drinks and some of their snacks. The entire room smelled like their egg waffles and it was extremely tempting. If I didn't have dinner soon I would've caved in. The interior was cozy, clean, neat, and aesthetic. This shop is a great place for studying or dates. It's mostly quiet with students here. Unfortunately parking is limited to 15 minutes outside so find streetside parking elsewhere. This place made me feel so excited! First, when I walked it I was greeted by both a man and woman who were sweet and friendly. I was so excited to see samples - that's always fun! I sampled both the tea and mochi egg puff and was sold. Ended up ordering the black sesame egg puff which was delicious, and a custom tea. I went for the Peony Tea zero sweet pandan jelly and rose cream with a salted plum. YUM!!! The creams and jellies are homemade - not too sweet, just right. Actually had a hard time ordering because the whole menu looked magnificent :-). In terms of the ambiance, the space it self was well lit, bright and spacious. We ordered through the QR code and waited 20 mins for my drink. The only reason I even got my order is because I asked the barista what was up with drinks. Everyone else who came in after me received their drinks and I saw that they stopped working on my order. After sometime I went up to them and asked, the reason they were holding on to it is because they had no more boba. I was there for so long why didn't they just ask ?? Waited so long for nothing. The drinks we got weren't even yummy and definitely not worth the money we paid. All together we paid around $19 plus tip. Could improve their recipes and service. read more

Sinceretea is a small shop located on a busy street. There isn't any designated parking, but the curbside parking is usually empty. Their online ordering system makes it a breeze to do pickup. Ordering in person is done on a kiosk at the shop. The system is the same as online ordering so it may be beneficial to order ahead of time or while in transit. They have a variety of drinks on their menu! However, the prices are higher than other shops in comparison. I usually opt for the Dark Roasted Oolong Tea with a splash of cream. It has a smooth flavor with a light (but obvious) oolong taste. It's always a refreshing drink to come back to after visiting other milk tea stores. This is one of my favorite boba spots in San Jose! They do a really good job at making the tea the star of the drink, and their other seasonal drinks are delicious too (love their coconut pandan one). My go-to is usually the lavender green tea, which is the perfect amount of lavender flavor without overpowering the tea flavor. The toppings are pretty good too. They have screens where you can order, and service is quick. Everyone who works there is super nice and cares about making sure you enjoy your drink, even offering to remake it if needed. The shop itself is on the smaller side. Ambiance is minimal and cozy, and it's a nice place to study or get work done. It's probably one of my most frequented boba spots! read more

I've been here once yearssss ago and they did a major facelift - super cute and dainty. This is literally the closest boba place to my place.. which means easy to access! There's street parking on Taylor or on the residential streets. So excited about this cloud series! They have 3 flavors: Jasmine, peony, oolong. I went with the Jasmine one with boba. FYI this already comes with the strawberry foam so no need to add extra. The boba was made well, the perfect chewiness. I like that it has a good blend of tea flavor even though it's a blended ice drink.. and if the ice melts, it still tastes pretty good. My sister got the peony plum tea; it is super refreshing but it lacked ice.. there was no option to select ice level on the kiosk.. so we added more ice when we got home. Not sure how long this cloud series will be around but def will be back to try the other two flavors! read more

I discovered this place through the Japan town Farmers market. I saw they had tea jelly and was really excited. They offer samples so you can try a few types before committing. They were sold out of the oolong jelly before noon if that tells you anything. I loved everything I tried but opted for the jasmine green tea jelly with coconut milk. It was so good. It has a nice floral tea flavor. The roasted oolong has a more intense tea flavor if you like more flavor. I'll definitely be getting more tea from them in the future. read more

The tea was....not good. I don't think this place specializes in milk tea, so don't come here for that. I got a dark roasted oolong with whole milk and it was so watery and tasteless. The boba was decent. The lavender lemonade was alright. The golden spring drink (their "specialTea") was bitter and watery too. No pineapple flavor at all, like it was from a can. The workers were kind and we got our drinks pretty quick but gosh...what a let down. I really wanted to like Sinceretea since I live in the area, but it's just okay to me. Don't get me wrong, the teas and coffees are good, but I don't think it's anything to write home about. The workers are friendly enough and I've seen them explain items in detail to customers who are curious. Since they do speciality coffees, it makes me wonder why they only open at 11am (12 on weekends). I came here after being recommended the tea class by a co-worker and seeing their seasonal drink, the CocoPandan. When I bought it and took it home, I found it refreshing but noticed a peculiar aftertaste from the pandan that made it less enjoyable than it could've been. I assume this was likely due to the sugar level, so I decided to try giving this place a second chance. This time I decided to bring some of my stuff so that I could do my own work in the cafe. There's very calming music that plays (though also the occasional ad) and a nice atmosphere, and their wifi is also pretty good. I also got the rose cream latte, but messed up my order and forgot to specify that I wanted iced. The barista was really nice about it and gave me the iced version free of charge while still letting me keep the hot version, which was really nice. The rose cream has a very nice, sweet taste to it, but does not combine with the coffee and as a result you will be left with two different flavors. This is probably the only flaw within the place, but is cancelled out when combined with every other aspect. Overall, this is a really nice place and I would recommend going here if you're near Japantown. read more

I'd venture to say that the black tea quality is better than Chi Cha San Chen's in neighboring Cupertino :) Sinceretea specializes in premium quality teas and has a minimal menu featuring a diverse interpretation of teas, from minimally crafted loose leafs to fun specialty tea-centric mocktails. In terms of mocktails, I love the Pink Lady with rose jelly! The pink lady has a jasmine green tea base layered with flavors of rose and guava! All of their jellies are exclusively made in house and just blossom with flavors! I especially love the rose jelly, definitely have rarely, if ever, tasted a jelly so fragrant! I think I order this one regular sweet, which isn't too sweet :) If you're looking for a more classic tea, I highly recommend their black tea with cream and boba, if you're in the mood :) The black tea is round and bold without having too astringent or flat of a finish (which is more characteristic of lower quality teas). The rose lemonade was pretty good. Nice and refreshing on a hot day. The rose jelly is also really good and added texture to the drink. They also put in little rose petals at the bottom which added an extra rose flavor. If you go to sinceretea I would recommend getting their fruit teas over their milk teas. The only problem I have is their price. Even for the bay area it's around $6-$8 for a drink which is pretty steep in my opinion. read more

Winter decided to linger in the Bay Area longer this year (thanks global warming!), and so have my cravings for hot soup and hot drinks! We decided to go to Sinceretea after walking around in the cold for a pick-me-up. I haven't been here since they closed off the seating area during the pandemic. But their indoor seating is open now! There are a couple of tables and a bar table by the window. This is a close walk from the heart of J-town and the only boba store in the area. There is limited street parking, but I suggest finding parking near the residential areas of 7th near Esplanade. They have a fair amount of teas and some coffee drinks to choose from. They also offer alternative milks for an additional cost. Ordering is solely through the touchpad screen and payment is digital/card only. Last time I got a jasmine tea with almond milk, but this time I got the oolong tea with almond milk. Unfortunately, the downside of making tea drinks quickly is that tea isn't able to be steeped long enough. I feel like the tea flavor wasn't strong enough for me and was diluted by the milk. It wasn't a bad drink though! These days the drinks are at a similar price point as other boba shops. They used to be a dollar or two cheaper! There are also snacks like mochi egg puffs and mochi waffles that I haven't had the chance to try. This humble and underrated cafe is a nice study spot or place to catch up with a friend in J-town. I love this place. It became my favorite boba shop in a short amount of time and this review is about a year overdue. I originally happened upon it on the way home from work when I took a wrong turn to try and get out of traffic haha. And since then I have often treated myself by taking a detour to bring home some delicious milk teas. The rotating seasonal drinks are fun and bring back regulars like me to try different drinks during different seasons. I love this concept and each new drink has been quality. Building your own drinks and customizing everything is easy as well. I prefer boba places that allow you to create your own drinks. Great tea flavor, not too sweet, and the only place I know that does a variety of tasty agar jellies. I like grass jelly drink a lot, and while they don't have as a that specific one they have rose, coconut, pandan, and coffee jellies in the same texture! Which match their drinks well. Sinceretea is by far my favorite spot to visit for studying/getting work done and their refreshing teas. If you like tea this is the place for you because the owners put in the time and effort to brew good quality teas, which make for a refreshing milk tea. They can make it hot or iced, which means you can get a high quality milk tea regardless of the weather. My personal favorites are the jasmine milk tea with either their vegan coconut or rose jellies and their ancient black milk tea. But, both the dark and light roasted oolongs are close seconds. They also have special teas which are drinks that use brewed tea mixed with either juice or jams that will quench your thirst. They have flavors ranging from berries, citrus, and tropical. I like the berry merry and mango paradise. I'm not a big coffee fan, so I haven't tried their lattes but a lot of customers come in to get them. The decaffeinated drinks are not my favorite, but I do on occasion order these when I'm not feeling like drinking caffeine (these are great options if you want a drink like a lemonade or strawberry milk). Unless you like your teas super sweet, I think 50% sugar is the sweet spot for those who like the taste of tea but want something slightly sweeter than the traditional brewed tea. Some say that the price is high, but once I learned about the brewing process and how much time the owners put into perfecting the recipe for each of the drinks, I don't really think it is. Plus, every other shop around has a similar price range, but I think Sinceretea has a higher quality tea flavor profile, which makes the price worth it. Being that I've been coming here at least once a week during my quarters for the last 2 years, I'm surprised that most, if not all of them, recognize me and my friend. They will get your order done within 5min, unless it's super crowded, but even then, you're in and out within 10min max. You do order from a tablet, but if you ask and need help, the staff will step in the help you out and provide recs if you need some. The owners are super kind and I loved taking their workshops to learn about how to make the teas at home, which I've been doing for my family when I'm too lazy to leave the house. Highly recommend taking these workshops if you like brewing tea! Space: 4/5 The shop is an aesthetic interior design with good vibes, making it for a great spot to study/work or just hang out with friends. There isn't a whole lot of seating, but a decent amount for the size of the shop. Even when it's busy, there aren't many people that sit for long periods of time (other than myself and a few other regulars). So, if you wait for a bit you'll usually be able to grab a seat. They do also have outdoor seating with umbrellas for the dog/pet owners that want to hang out. As for parking, there's only street parking, but it's rarely ever crowded unless there's an event happening in Japantown. read more

I really like this place! I came by with a friend after our lunch. This place is so cute with great decor and a mixture of real plants and fake plants. They have a sample station by the entrance which was so nice because we tried it and loved it. The sample that day was the jasmine green tea with nondairy creamer at 50% sweet, and we loved it! The tea tasted so good and the sweetness level was perfect for me. You can order from the iPads or with the person that works there -- so friendly too! It seems that you click on the options you want. The milk tea options are step by step where you pick your tea base and then pick your milk of choice (nondairy vs dairy and options). I also loved that the menu also tells you information about different teas if you had questions about the taste and caffeine level.
