Honestly, I live directly around the corner from this bakery - and walking inside might've been the single most genius decision I've ever made. The snowball cookie tastes like a homemade brownie with icing. It's extremely delicious. The chocolate chip cookie is topped with a bit of sea salt that is UNDEFEATED. A most fabulous place and I adore the idea and what is happening here behind the bar and in the kitchen. To for one, have such a unique place that puts such care in the sweet treats is one remarkable thing but to also have a care for craft cocktails that perfectly marry all of the Devine deserts, is unheard of. Abby and the whole team at Sin did a fantastic job for my daughter's Coco inspired birthday cake. The attention to details, the colors were everything I had pictured! Abby was kind enough to speak with me (when i dropped by without an appointment) to discuss the details of the cake design and flavor and even gave me a sample of the vanilla cake with sprinkles she 'messed' up (which tasted amazing btw). I took off one star because the raspberry buttercream filling I requested was a let down as you could not taste any hint of berries at all. The baker and I had also agreed to do a mixed filling of ganache and buttercream but there was no ganache. Having said that, the cake itself was nice and moist and not sickly sweet. I loved how you could see through to their decorating studio and watch some of the girls filling orders for cakes! This is a super cute bakery that I could definitely see myself coming here to work or study. It's pretty quiet overall. I've had their nitro and regular iced coffee. Both are pretty good! My only qualm with Sin is that sometimes the customer service is a bit lackluster. Other than that the quality of the pastry is phenomenal! I used to get a mini cake from here after each successful semester and I would absolutely go to town on it haha they also have blossoming tea, think Kirsten Dunst Marie Antoinette flowering tea...it's gorgeous and I wish I discovered it on the menu it pre-covid as I'm sure it's even more beautiful in a teacup. Recently had my wedding cake made here and the process was great and very professional. We sampled cake flavors and picked a chocolate bourbon cake with raspberry filling and vanilla bean frosting. The cake was delicious and many guests also made sure to tell us! My only complaint is (aside from the price for a small wedding cake...eek! But I suppose somewhat typical for wedding cakes in general...still in shock) anyway, we asked for a gray and white marbled fondant cake with hints of navy and silver. Sin Bakery made my cake for my July wedding. From start to finish, Sin provided excellent service. My tasting went very smoothly...so many delicious choices! I actually ended up taking my leftovers to go (there were A LOT) and went to my cousin's house for dinner where we decided on final flavors. Thank goodness we did that because Sin was my second cake tasting just that day so my taste buds were on sugar overload. I explained exactly how I wanted my two cakes. I wanted one to match my wedding invitation in terms of being a dusty pink and then also some beautiful piping to match the design. It's hard to figure out what to comment on first: Sin's talent, taste or customer service. A bit of backstory, first. My partner's 50th birthday is in August and to mark this milestone I threw him a party at our favorite restaurant. I thought it would be fun to do a 50 Shades of Grey style cake (not a fan of the book, personally) as many of our friends attending would get it and find it cute. I googled some images, and sent a query to my partner's favorite bakery just outside of Boston, only to be cake-shamed and told to take my money and my business elsewhere as they were a "family business." Yes, cake shamed, because the cake, which you'll see in the photos, involved mild references to kink. So, I googled and came across Sin. I mean, with a name like that, they not only had to be delicious, but also be open to creative ideas, right? Within hours of sending my query, with the image of the cake I had in mind (along with the leather pride flag), Marisa emailed me back to say Sin would love to help and would put together a sketch of their take on the cake. The next day they sent me a sketch of the design and I fell in love. But a sketch is one thing - the execution is another matter. I sent a friend to pick it up because I was in Boston and he was coming to the party from his home in RI. When he texted me the image, it was EXACTLY as designed right down to the rope work on the top tier. Furthermore, it tasted AMAZING - a champagne cake with strawberry buttercream. Actually, it had extra buttercream because, well, I like frosting (as does my partner, so it wasn't totally a selfish request). The fondant was very tasty too - and this is from someone who hates the stuff. But I think what made this entire experience positive is that Sin didn't shy away from doing something a little risque, and treated me with respect. Having been cake shamed previously, I was just going to do a basic cake and call it a day. Sin made my partner's birthday so very special because they did an amazingly tasty design true to their word without any hesitation at all. Went here last night for dessert as I was craving a Black Forest. Upon arrival, they didn't have it as they only had Valentines Day specials. We ordered the red wine creme brûlée and red velvet cupcake. The brûlée wasn't bad along with the truffles. The red velvet was a disappointment as the cake was too dense. I emailed them pictures of what I was looking for- EVERY picture included REAL flowers on a very simple, pastel rough frosted cake. Received the invoice, paid in full (I could've just put down deposit) what a mistake. Went to pick it up, it was plain white. Nothing on it. Showed one of the woman my email communication with ALL the pictures- you would think IF there was a question about how it was decorated it would've been asked about in the email but NOTHING- even the woman who gave me the cakes agreed. I emailed them my disappointment and was refunded $25- the cost they would've invoiced me for the flowers. Such crap- and the response I received from Jennifer was unapologetic accepting NO responsibility for the miscommunication. After all, cakes are also visual so why that wasn't confirmed is beyond me. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. I wish I took a picture of the overpriced white cake. It was recommended I go to another bakery down the street and pay again to have it decorated. Seriously?!?? What a great spot on the West Side to grab dessert, a night cap and a few laughs with some friends. We decided to stop on in after a delicous meal at Broadway Bistro. I have heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it out. They are still trying to figure out how service will work. The bar was completely full and there was a larger group getting dessert to-go so we just sat it out while we looked over the menu. Shortly after we had our own server and she promptly took our orders. I got an espresso martini, It was spot on delicious. Rich, creamy and extra boozy... Just the way I like it! We got a piece of confetti cake to split. It was a little denser that I enjoy and the frosting could use a few minutes to soften up a bit. It is full of flavor but I do prefer softer, fluffier frosting... But that is just me and my opinion. The space is lovely. Large, clean and nice decorated. I love the barstools and pops of red. The track lighting above was a bit bright for the mood. Maybe tone it down a bit with the lighting at night. Some candles on the tables could add the ambiance I feel it is lacking. It just needs a few tweaks on the inside to create that cozy atmosphere you crave when looking for a place late night. They have SO MANY TABLES that it feels a tad on the cafeteria side when you walk in, but again... Just a few tweaks, and they can rectify that easily. All in all a good way to end our night. I would like to go back and try a few more desserts and cocktails to getter a better feel of what they have to offer! If you're reading this, the most important thing you can know is to ignore any reviews of Sin before Spring 2017, at least as far as the coffee shop aspect is concerned. The cake reviews, sure. But just a couple months ago, they made the move to a real coffee shop, upgrading their offerings from the former very small place on Allens Ave. Then, even better, they added cocktails and desserts for a really great evening experience. I live nearby and stop here for coffee often - they use New Harvest, from what I understand. Seven Stars has apparently switched to a Boston roaster. If that's not true, let me know and I'll edit this review. Anyway, Sin's pastries are also tasty and varied, from the savory or sweet scones, to the cheddar biscuit to the yummy cupcakes. In vegan varieties or with bacon on top! It's also a place where you can feel comfortable hanging out with work, a laptop, a book or friends. Not too loud. Not too crowded. We worked with Abby who is not only a delight, but extremely talented. She was patient with my vague instructions and helped us choose cake flavors everyone would love. I gave her full reign of decorating the cake, and on the day of I couldn't believe how perfectly she captured exactly what I wanted (especially since I barely told her anything about what I wanted it to look like).
