11.8.24 at Windward Mall parking lot

Food truck Friday in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii... Ko'olau Night Market happens on the second Friday of the month. It's too bad that November 8, 2024 was the last event for the year. Simply Ono (food truck) happened to be at the Windward Mall parking lot. I read a review stating that Simply Ono had been in Mililani. Wow! I'm so happy that it was on the Windward side where there's lots of free parking! I ordered the Prime Rib plate for $22.50 (including tax). It was juicy and tender! My green salad was fresh and the rice was just right! Thanks for being reasonably priced, convenient, and quick! I watched "uncle" patiently and carefully slice the prime rib! "Auntie" was so nice - she wrote each order in her notebook, treated each customer with kindness, called us each by name, and had a sincere smile! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! I felt the Aloha Spirit and really enjoyed the homestyle meal! I also appreciate the fresh rosemary seasoning!

June 2025 End cut was really seasoned and tasty. Salad was so good and the mash was homemade.

Prime Rib Plate was so ono. I like the end cut and the seasoning was great. The homemade mash potatoes were great as well and can't forget the Japanese potato salad. First time trying this wagon at the Manawili Night Market and I'm glad I tried them. Can't wait for the next night market.

Celebrating the first day of Fall... Found this truck at the Mililani Town Association Autumn Festival Craft Fair at Recreation 5 and what a lovely setting to celebrate the first day of fall...I should've started here first before exploring into the craft area as I heard but didn't realize the massive portions they dish out. On the menu tonight is Prime Rib, Rack of Lamb, Okinawan Shoyu Pork, Furikake Crusted Island Mahimahi and what I got is Beef Stroganoff over pasta and Garlic Bread and I got the last order for the night yeah!!! One reason I should've eaten first, there was much more seating and now the obvious the massive portion given...I could've walked it off and not fall into the lurking food coma. These delightful couple working hard non stop filled the container to the most ultimate brim that I've never seen anywhere else...and to think there's pasta under the coating of Beef Stroganoff was quite overwhelming but I did give it the Simply Ono try. So nice and creamy like I'd remember this old school classic which is one of the reason I ordered it as I can't recall the last time finding it on any menu, it's loaded with chunks of beef and so much mushrooms this was a total comfort meal and no there wasn't any room for their dessert Warm Bread Pudding with Creamy Vanilla Sauce sadly... Thank you!

Salad Nicoise

I was just looking for a small bite to eat for dinner, as I had a large lunch and wasn't too hungry. So I headed to the Hawaii Kai Farmers Market at Kaiser High School on a Tuesday. They're open from 4-6pm. Simply Ono was one of the food trucks there, and as I browsed the menu, I spotted the Salad Nicoise (Mahimahi, capers, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, green beans) for $8.00. I've had this salad before on the mainland and it's delicious, so I thought I'd give it a try. The salad did not actually have any green salad, like previous ones that I've had. This was much more heartier, with chunks of mahi-mahi, cubed potatoes, green beans, etc. It was very delicious! It came in a bento container along with a taro roll, which was also very yummy. It was the perfect amount of food for me. I had read that it's a mother and son team. They were both extremely friendly and the guy was hilarious! I would definitely return to try some of their other items.

Shoyu Pork plate $16

3 words: Okinawan Shoyu Pork ($16)! Every last Wednesday of the month, Pearl Country Club has a night market and this food truck is always there. I've come here twice now and have gotten the same thing. The pork is tender, falls apart and has such good flavor. Portion wise, I do wish they gave a little more because I can eat the whole plate in one sitting. (Hehe) I love the Japanese potato salad as well. Potato salad isn't something you find at many places since mac salad is so popular here so I'm so glad I can get my potato fix here! My mom has gotten their corn chowder with garlic bread ($7) and she's loved it! It's nice and chunky with tons of corn. The garlic bread is a nice added touch to dip and eat. The couple that runs the food truck is always so sweet. You can tell they put love and care into their food. The wife individually wraps each fork with a napkin and a twist tie. The husband makes the food and serves the food. They're always so nice & happy to serve you. If corn chowder or shoyu pork isn't your thing, they're also known for their prime rib! I honestly don't know how I can try anything I'm so hooked on their shoyu pork.

Prime rib style filet mignon

So tasty, high quality, reasonably priced, really nice couple. I loved the chunky herbs they used and I got a huge chunk of filet for $18! They were at UH prep rally at the Varsity Building. We will be coming again next week if they return!

Our first encounter

At Koolau Night Market at Windward mall, and know how you just get a feeling to stop at a food place? This is the place! We saw Aunty and Uncle and already knew we was going get dinner from here. We got 2 baked spaghetti, the prime rib and shrimp pasta. We didn't get home to Nalo until 830p, but the food was still warm...My kids macked the spaghetti!. So grateful we happened to come by, and now we hooked. If you get a chance, go early and check them out.

Turkey Plate. Ask if they cooked it or store bought
GLENN F.

Went to say hi to Harris and Cora today. Get to scratch Turkey off my craving list. Going sleep after, no calls please! (That's my feelings before I got home, ate my plate and served the other Turkey lunch to my mom and aunty) Putting Turkey back on my craving list. (I'm wishing I didn't buy a second plate for my mom and aunty) This salty, turkey meat is not freshly cooked, it's processed, water has been injected into it to make it tender, and it's the kind that is pre-cooked purchased. The stuffing is even more salty, I couldn't even taste the flavor of it. I'm sorry, I can't recommend the Turkey plate from this lunch wagon.

Ahi Patties

With the dine in lockout in place we decided to try a lunch wagon and eat in our car. Simply Ono is a mom and son operation. Very friendly owners. Located near the John A Burns School of Medicine I had the Hawaiian plate #2 and my wife had the Ahi patties. I have to concur with my wife the ahi was a bit spicy. My plate which consisted of lau lau, lomi lomi salmon, beef. stew, kalua pig and rice. The all items except the lau lau is of average taste. The lau lau is deserving of a four star rating. It had a the right mix of pork, pork fat to luau leaf ratio. It had no butter fish. But it was still good.

We finally got to try the Roast Prime Rib plate after hearing so many friends say how delicious and what a great deal at only $11! The verdict is in, not only is it a great deal, but our gang from the office really LOVED it!!! You can't beat sitting down to prime rib cooked to perfection! It was so tasty and juicy! You gotta eat it there after it is plated up! Not only did we love the prime rib, the dressing on the salad was delicious too! The salad was fresh and thumbs up to their salad dressing! Our co-worker chose mashed potatoes for his side and boy did it look good! He REALLY enjoyed it! I think I'm going to try the mashed potatoes next time. Creamy skin-on mashed potatoes! Yummers!!! Roast Prime Rib Au Jus and Horseradish with Mashed Potatoes is a Thursday special! There are a lot of other menu choices to satisfy everyone's palate and budget! Simply Ono is located in the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Cafe Waiola. Breakfast 7:00am - 10:30am Monday - Friday Lunch 10:30am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday Saturday & Sunday - Closed (Open for Catering) There is metered street parking outside. Bring coins to feed the meter! We all loved the Roast Prime Rib Au Jus and Horseradish with Mashed Potatoes. Hope you do too! Is it Thursday yet???

New York fried steak

I never knew that the John A. Burns Medical School had a public cafeteria until I was invited to lunch. It's on the ground level and quite spacious with two eateries, one being Simply Ono. There's a lot of public parking, metered. They have a rotating menu so check out their website for daily specials. They have a variety of plate lunches from fish dishes to sandwiches and soups. I tried their seared ahi with a wasabi sesame sauce, served with rice and green salad. I was impressed with the amount of fish for $9.50. It was really fresh and nicely sliced pieces of ahi. I also had the brie and pear sandwich, which came on wheat bread for $4.50. I could have made this at home to be honest but it was still dang yummy. They had a perfected ratio of ooey gooey brie cheese to bread. A few more slices of pear would have been nice, but it was simply ono. Overall, I was more than satisfied with our food choices. I will say, I think most of their items are made ahead and re-warmed when ordered. But that does make the process speedy. Service was ok, you basically counter order. Good value though, I'd come again.

Since Corona virus is happening and cant dine in the restaurants till maybe april I needed to leave the house for awhile so I saw this lunchwagon on yelp as well as frolic hawaii website so decided to check them out if they give alot for the price the owners are friendly and polite. I had the ahi patties with ponzu sauce mac salad and rice and my husband had the Hawn plate #2. Had beef stew laulau, lomi salmon, and kalua pig and rice. The patties were a little spicy but I could handle it. The beef stew I tasted it was good ask my husband how was the rest of the food he said the lomi salmon could have a little more salt but other than that was good. Will be back to try their different menu on the different days. Sorry took out the lau lau.

New York Steak Katsu ($10 incl tax): really is ono!! Skip the soggy brown rice and get white rice instead.
Jack W.

1. VERDICT/VALUE They take credit card and while some meals will cost you, $10 or less gets you most meals (and they're pretty good) fast - what's not to like about that?? 2. FOOD With the choice of two food trucks (Koi and Simply Ono), I thought I would give the one with no line a try. Isn't that a bad thing? Not in this case! New York Steak Katsu ($10 including tax): comes with your choice of white or brown rice, your choice of salads, and of course, a deep fried strip of New York steak. The brown rice was too moist (i.e. soggy) and the mayo in the mac salad made up for it somewhat, but HUZZAH - the steak was just right! Crunchy crust mixed with tender steak on the inside...even my co-workers were raving about it and wanting to get another plate of their own of it! 3. SERVICE It's a food truck - no long conversations here, but the service was nice, fast, no unneeded upselling, and as I mentioned, takes credit card unlike some (who carries cash these days?!). 4. ATMOSPHERE In this case, there wasn't any seating around Simpy Ono being a food truck and all. You're surrounded by happy people looking forward to getting some great grindz and that's always a good thing. Will be trying other dishes again soon!

I just discovered this cute food trailer "Cafe Parkside" on Yelp as I was looking for restaurants…read morein Kalihi. Not sure where it was located in Kalihi, but I was determined to find it. I was at Richies Drive inn when I remembered to check out this place. It was about a couple lanes or two further down North King Street heading west and sure enough you can spot the cute food trailer in the parking lot. Did you know the family built this wooden cafe on the trailer together?! The Kids helped built this with the direction of their father. They are parked near the street in the shared parking lot with the Pawn shop & Jackson Hewett Tax Servive. It's across the Kapalama Post office but before the old Pizza Hut location and I think after Palace Saimin You would only see the cafe on the trailer from Tuesday-Friday from 11am -5pm. There are some picnic benches and chairs under the canopy tent while you wait. In the beginning they started out in Waimanalo but for now they are here in Kalihi. They are known for their Steak and Shrimp plate and their two huge pieces of boneless fried chicken. They have some regular items and some specials of the day. Best to call ahead and place your order. The fried chicken would take the longest about 10 minutes wait time. They have some other items which sounded good like pot roast pork which is not offered all the time, hamburger steak. Kalbi, loco moco, bbq chicken, etc. On a hot day, shave ice and slushies and slushes floats would be refreshing. They have lemonade and orange aid slushies , but I got an orange aid slushie float with ice cream. I decided to get the fried chicken since I had some time to wait. it was huge as the photos posted and it was $12! It was hot and crispy in a seasoned flour battered. I couldn't wait to take a bite as I was driving, but I just tried part of the fried batter. It was seasoned so it was a little salty for me perhaps I just ate the batter part. The chicken gravy given was really good but having two humongous boneless chicken, I may need more gravy than the large portion cup given. Chicken tasted better after pouring some of the gravy over it. The gravy was yummy and not the brown gravy, but the light tan gravy! I'm looking forward to try more dishes like the rib eye steak, pot roast pork or some other specials. Please support this family own business! Daily specials are posted on their Instagram page @cafeparkside808. They were so nice and down to earth. I was grateful for their great & friendly service and they even offered to bring my order to my car since I wanted to wait in my car. They have some regular customers now but could use more customers since they are a new business. Prices were reasonable with generous portions. Still need to try more plates but I'll give them a rating of 4.5 stars rounded up! Thanks for reading my reviews =)

The crust was perfectly golden and flaky -- not soggy, not too thick, just that buttery, shatter-when-you-touch-it kind of crust. Inside was creamy, savory goodness packed with tender chunks of chicken and veggies that still had a little bite. It tasted homemade in the best way, like the upgraded gourmet version of something your favorite aunt would make. But the real surprise star? The strawberry banana custard pie topped with mochi. I did not expect to love this as much as I did. The custard was silky and not overly sweet, the strawberries added a fresh brightness, and the banana gave it that smooth, mellow flavor that tied everything together. And the mochi on top? Such a fun, chewy texture contrast that made every bite interesting. It somehow felt light and indulgent at the same time. Savory, sweet, creamy, chewy -- this place understands balance. I would 100% come back just for pie... and that says a lot.

Hot pastrami on rye with fresh-cut potato chips? Clam chowder in a bowl? Yes, right in the heart in…read moreKalihi at Lei Lei's Bistro food truck at the corner of Mokuaea and Hau sts. that will be open for 2 years come March 2026. Owned by husband-and-wife team, Robert and Leah Roberts, both have always had a passion in their hearts in starting a bistro-style sandwich food truck. They left Spokane, WA to move here, with Leah's family and friends calling her "Lei Lei," which is how the name of her food truck came about. People were skeptical of their plan to open a food truck specializing in sandwiches, as they were told HI is a land of plate lunches and not of sandwiches, but they are serving a niche of followers. They serve breakfast in the morning hours that include: breakfast croissant, loco moco, and breakfast plates. Their lunch menu includes: patty melt; French dip; hot pastrami on rye; tuna melt; London broil; cracked pepper turkey, bacon, avocado with provolone; BLT; loco moco, smash burgers. They also do catering and offer sandwich platters. We've had the following as takeout: * Hot pastrami on marble rye. The sandwich also included fresh cole slaw with a house-made Russian dressing, and sautéed onions. Their most popular sandwich, it was delicious and filled with generous amounts of Boars Head pastrami, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, onions, and a creamy Russian based sauce using Leah's secret recipe. It was a hearty and filling sandwich! It came with generous amounts of addictive and freshly fried, crispy house-made potato chips! A free drink was included, and I chose a large cup of refreshing unsweetened iced tea. * Clam chowder in bread bowl. Because it was takeout, the clam chowder was placed in a separate container. The freshly made creamy chowder was very flavorful and loaded with clams, potatoes, bacon, round onions, and topped with green onions. The bread bowl was good, but you can't beat authentic sourdough bread from Boudin Bakery in SFO! No skimping on ingredients, and I loved it! Customer service is excellent and is extremely friendly by the two owners! Both are welcoming and ready to please! They know what the Aloha Spirit is and exude it to the max! Both are faith-driven and openly declare that if it weren't for God, they wouldn't be where they are. Scriptures adorn the food truck, and colorful stickers are used on their takeout containers. The open front passenger area of the truck has free Bibles for those wanting any. They advertise Hope Calvary Ohana on their truck, but when I asked if they were members, they said they were members of Anchor Church in Kaneohe, but they help to advertise Hope Calvary Ohana that is location right in back of the food truck. And diners are free to post personalized messages on colorful fish on their inner fence, as the fish symbolize abundance, evangelism, and discipleship in the Bible. Hours of operation are Mon to Sat 10a to 2p, closed Sun. Located in a busy corner of Kalihi, they have an advantage over other similar lunch take-outs, as they have around 5 free parking spaces on Hau St. The front of the food truck on Mokuaea St. is blocked by a wooden fence at curbside with two outdoor picnic tables if you desire to eat there. Love their food truck with actual colorful photos of their menu items! Lei Lei's Bistro Food Truck brings a nice change to the local plate lunch scene in Kalihi with hearty sandwiches and homemade potato chips and fries and clam chowder. Owner Leah and Robert look forward to sharing with you their Aloha Spirit, as I look forward to trying their other sandwiches as well. Congratulations to their business and wishing them continued success! Support local!

My thoughts: - French Dip on a French roll with truffle aioli, London broil roast beef, picante provolone, sautéed onions and mushrooms, and au jus: I enjoyed this! Lots of meat and the bun was soft which is how I like it. When I brought it home and opened the au jus container, I thought they didn't give enough BUT it was...whew!
