Frickn chicken and gravy all over, but on the side
Edie S.

Someone ELSE waited and picked up food for us from here so this is not a full experience but food alone this was incredibly good. Frickn chicken was crunchy but still juicy, and the mushroom gravy was really tasty. Peppery and wonderful flavor on the food, but I doubly I'd be able to wait in an hour in the sun and another hour to get my food. Hope they find a brick and mortar soon. Great food!

Us in line like 8-10th in line

Okay, let's start with location. So Fat food truck opens for business at least 2 times a week, every Friday at Ali'i Place in town, and Sunday's in Gods Country- Waimanalo! They open from lunch, I think in town they get there at 10AM and Nalo is 11AM, till sold out. Because they are famous for their chicken and all their other foods, it's best to go before they even get there and just wait to be one of the first in lines. The faster you get to being the firstest in line, the sooner you get your food and no need to wait in line in the hot sun. U might want to have an umbrella handy just in case. Be advised that food is made fresh! So, with that said, we literally waited for them in Nalo from 930 AM lol that was a little too dramatic, cuz they didn't pull up till 1045 AM. Also, be advised that their spots are subject to change at last minute, so if they say they going be close to Nalo beach park entrance that may change and they might go across the street of 7-11. Because we was waiting at the beach park parking lot, they spot changed last minute to across 7-11 and everybody raced to stand in line and park right close to them. Even though I know I was the first to get there and wait at 930 AM lol we ended up being like 8-10th in line. Wahhh :( !!! That's how fast everybody raced to be in the front. She started taking orders at 11, and we didn't get to order till like 1120, 1130, and didn't get our food till 1220, 1230. So be advised, you may have to wait for their arrival, wait to order, and wait for your food. Was it worth the wait?? Hmmm I would say yes, it's worth the wait to try. The food was really good. We got the famous, mushroom gravy all ovah fricknnn chicken, the furikake frickn chicken and the Hawaiian laulau plate with long rice!! All the chicken is the same. Again, all the frickn chicken is the same, just depends on your order and the dressing. So our orders were same chicken, just with furikake and the other with gravy all ovah, and no matter cuz all was good! Furikake chicken was good and gravy all ovah was da bomb!! They had other stuff on the menu like poke bowls, and they have specials sometimes, like last week, I think they had brisket beef stew. Bruhhh pictures look so good and the Hawaiian plate is one of their specials too. Now getting to the Hawaiian plate, wife is Hawaiian, so when we got to the Hawaiian plate, she wasn't a big fan of the long rice, but she said the laulau was good. It was a bumbucha laulau!! All in all, all was good. The wait was worth it to try, buttt... if you ask me, I don't know, I'm not sure, if I would wait another 1-2 hours again, or maybe I would, if I'm hungry. But if you haven't tried em yet, go get em. Support local!

Combo plate ($19) frickin (fried) chicken and pork belly long rice. YUM!

So Fat Catering is a solid option for plate lunch. Huge portions and their frickin chicken (fried chicken) is probably the best I've ever had. We normally go on Fridays when they park at Alii Place since my coworkers and I are all in office. I normally do combo plates ($19) with poke or pork belly long rice. If I can get my hands on it, I want to get the beef brisket stew! Hopefully one of the next times we go. Be aware that it takes a while! Lots of people do large office lunch runs so this can create a 45-60 minute wait. We now place our order early (10:30am or so) and come back later. Cheers to So Fat!

Yuuuuum. Had to go bank and saw the truck. Usually I go late and they pau already but this time I could put in an order for frickn chicken, and then just after i got out, it was ready. Perf timing. Even after walking back to my office and eating...still crispy! Nice and salty. Meat juicy. Mac salad lacks flavor, so think if got greens, I'll go green next time. Really shoulda gotten the combo and tried the pastele stew...next time. Pretty sure I found my new Friday lunch...

Fried chicken plate, gravy on the side.

Oh goodness. First timers. Arrived at 9:47 am at Alii Place and 9th in line. Truck on time and we were able to make the first round of orders. About 45 minutes for two chicken and one braised ribs plates. Second round of orders taken about the same time.... 45 minutes. Talk about efficient for two people. Friendly, appreciative, organized. Food was so delicious. Can't to have a reason to cater from them. So much food I had it for lunch the next day and it was still delicious! Thumbs up, try it out!! Be advised... cash only and BYOBag!!

I've heard so much about this Food Truck called So Fat and I heard through the Grapevine that their Fried Chicken is really good and after finally having that chance to try this place because they were in Downtown area today and I always avoided this Truck because the Parking situation isn't the greatest I had to suck it up and find parking and being the Fried Chicken Lover that I am I finally got my hands on this elusive Fried Chicken and let's just say it was so worth the Parking and so worth the wait. This Fried Chicken called the Fricken Chicken is a Boneless Thigh Deep Fried and cut up in Strips and I will tell you that you definitely need patience because they only put a limited amount of Fried Chicken in their Deep Fryer to insure the utmost Quality and Taste and all I can say is Holy Cow this is some really good Fried Chicken. They have other types of Fried Chicken as well but if you're a purist like me the Fricken Chicken is the way to go and they say have it with Gravy and I say Hell No!! Just eat it the way it is. It was perfectly seasoned and so crunchy it was Fricken Amazing. As for me you all know I like to try a little of everything so you I had to the FAT COMBO which comes with 3 Choices and comes with Rice and Mac Salad so I got the Fricken Chicken,Smoked Meat with Sautéed Onions and the Shoyu Inamona Poke. What an Amazing Combo. Smoked Meat was delicious with those Carmelized Onions and the Shoyu Inamona Ahi Poke was Fricken Awesome!!! Ahi was so full of Flavor and having those thin Slivers of Raw Onion right on top was just the icing on the cake. This Ahi Poke easily rivals Tanioka's or any other place that specializes in Ahi Poke. Definitely gotta try their Poke too. For the $24 it may sound steep but to me it's Money well spent. It's not cheap to run a business anymore you just gotta roll with it. Nothing more than good things to say about this very elusive Food Truck. The food here exceeded all of my expectations and the Local Lady running the Food Truck looks rough around the edges but is an absolute Sweetheart. So Fat Food Truck also is in Waimanalo on the Weekends but you have to check their Instagram Account @sofatcatering for their hours of operation. I don't what the heck took me so long to eat here but man all I can think about is that Fricken Chicken and Shoyu Ahi Inamona Poke right now. It was so damn good and for the Fried Chicken Lovers out there the Fricken Chicken definitely HITS BIG TIME!!!!! Go get it!!!!

So Fat Catering can only be found twice a week - Downtown on Wednesday and Waimanalo on Sundays. They normally open about 11am and close at about 4 P.M. I've only visited the Nalo location fronting a beach park. You can pull up next to the truck, but getting back out may be a little tricky if the roads are busy. The wait can be a little long if you don't call ahead especially if you order the chicken or if someone else orders chicken. We waited about 30 mins each time, so it's a better idea to give them a call if you're in a rush. We've gotten the stew and chicken with gravy (on the side). Both were very good (especially the chicken). They take cash or credit card, but charge 50 cents more if you decide to use a credit card.

Food is amazing! 2 man crew are very friendly! Prices are reasonable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Garlic chicken w/ mushroom brown gravy on the rice! Broke da mout!

Amazing chicken! The garlic sauce over the heavily seasoned and perfectly fried thighs melts in your mouth! All of their gravies and sauces are fresh from scratch. I drool at the thought when passing thru Waimanalo every week! And remember good things take time-this is NOT fast foo

Finally got to try the friciken chicken. The truck is located across Waimanalo Beach Park with a couple of other food venders. Look for the white truck with a white tent on the side. The plate comes with a giant scoop of white rice and a small scoop of Mac salad. The chicken is served cut up like chicken katsu. The skin was crispy and meat was tender. Taste is one of the best of all the lunch wagons. Took off a star because hooking up with them can be a chore. The lady who took my order said they post on Instagram where the are going to be a day ahead and that day. But I didn't see a set time on their post. Be safe and support local.

Pork belly adobo and furikaki chicken.
Gabe C.

Waited almost an hour for my food. The friken chicken I ordered was salty and well as the spicy pre frozen poke. The Pork belly adobo was really fatty and the meat wasn't even tender. I usually have high expectations from food trucks but not this one.

This is a food truck that opens on Wednesdays in downtown and on Saturdays in Waimanalo. I came here with some coworkers around 11:30, before the inevitable 12:00 lunch rush, mesmerized by the smell of fried food a block away. Although I was still halfheartedly keto when I tried this place, I decided to carboload nonetheless. There was also spicy chicken and garlic chicken available but, seeking to more objectively judge the standard of their chicken, I got the plain so fat chicken. They have a ticket system where they call your number. I ordered right after my coworkers and, unfortunately, they got the last bits of a batch of chicken and I was forced to wait about ten minutes for mine--so it was fresh but still a test of patience. There were two enormous pieces of chicken served with a scoop of white rice and tossed salad. The breading was quite heavy and oily, but super crisp, juicy, and flavorful. It reminded me almost of the crunchy bits on chinese pork belly. It had a nice peppery/shoyu flavor and was perfect fodder for an afternoon nap. I also had a piece straight from the fridge the next day, and it was surprisingly still crunchy and moist, if a bit oily. The menu includes many standard local treats, like smoked meat and beef stew too, which I'll have to come back and try (if I stop trying to be vegetarian).

This is my first review of 2026!…read more Tonight I enjoyed the sticky rice with chicken anticucho and it is my favorite meal of 2026 so far. The chicken thighs were beautifully seasoned and slightly charred. The meat was cooked all the way through yet still juicy with bone in thigh. The purple sticky rice was perfectly done and I love the texture of sticky rice in general. The plate also came with sliced cucumbers and pickled mustard greens (reminiscent of Vietnamese pickled mustard greens - but in a much more vibrant green color). My favorite part of the meal was the tart and aromatic sauce that came in the meal. If you're not a fan of lime juice and fish sauce, you may want to use sparingly. However, I was thoroughly enjoying the sauce and when accompanied with a bit of the mustard greens, it toned down the sour aspect of the flavor profile. Overall, so delicious and I would love to find them again and enjoy more of their menu items!
