We finally got to try Da Bald Guy yesterday--this has been on our list for years, but we always seemed to miss them since they close at 2 PM. When we arrived, it was almost closing and everything was sold out except for the spicy pan-fried ahi poke. That actually worked out perfectly because it was exactly what we had been wanting to try. Oh wow--it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold, savory, and had just the right amount of spice. We took our food over to Kahuku Beer Garden and enjoyed it with some beers, and it honestly hit differently in the best way. Definitely worth planning ahead for next time so we can try more from their menu.
My sister and I tried this food truck and got the 2 item combo. We had the boneless kalbi and the pan fried poke which i was kind of skeptical of the pan fried poke because I was scared the fish might be overcooked and the sauces will taste weird when it gets cooked but it was soooo delicious! The kalbi was so soft it literally melts and same as the pan fried poke. We shared the plate because it has really big portions but it came with Mac salad and rice as well. Service was fast and staff was friendly. They also have a couple benches for seating in front of their truck to eat. Couldn't forget about their kalbi of how soft and tender it was.
The peeled garlic butter shrimp ($20) from Da Bald Guy was one of the best bites I had during my recent trip to Honolulu. I love a good garlic shrimp, but I've only ever had it hot and thick on the sauce. At Da Bald Guy, such is not the case. For starters, the shrimp is peeled, leaving the actual shrimp itself to catch all the flavor. It's not heavily doused in sauce. Instead, the use of garlic butter is more intentional where you can taste the sweetness of the shrimp. Sensationally good. No notes. If you find yourself driving to the North Shore, do yourself a favor and stop by Da Bald Guys for their peeled garlic butter shrimp.
We just visited a tour from Kualoa Ranch and made a stop here as it was the midpoint to going to North Shore. It's located with a ton of other small trucks and eateries, so it's a nice pit stop just to wind down and relax! There's a convenient parking lot on the both sides of the whole area. When we visited around 1pm, it wasn't too crowded. More people waiting for their order and just 2 people ahead. The menu listed that they don't do combos anymore (sad!) and they ran out of galbi for the day. We really wanted to try the galbi! So we ordered the pan-fried poke, shrimp, and steak plates. It did take awhile for our order to be ready, since we were also killing time trying to find a table, find drinks nearby, etc. I mainly had the pan-fried poke which I do really enjoy the sauce, but I found it to be nothing too special. The idea of it sounds pretty neat, but I feel like the pan-fried poke was a bit too over done, it almost could have just been grilled fish at that point lol. The steak was pretty flavorful, and the shrimp had all the garlic bits that were pretty flavorful as well. The mac salad was also pretty nice, but pretty heavy and creamy. It is overall a heavy meal, which we all almost went into a food coma haha.

This time I wanted to try the garlic shrimp bc I've only heard good things. My niece and her boyfriend were visiting and I wanted them to experience this food truck. They ordered a combo plate with the garlic shrimp and steak. The food was delicious. They actually rated it the best meal that had while they were on the island. That should tell ya something. The shrimp were big and cooked perfectly. Seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of garlic and the extra sauce made for the best rice. I was happy with the quantity of shrimp too. Definitely a worth it meal in my book. I also got a teriyaki spam musubi to try. Also good. I like how they wrapped it. Just a slight variation from the ones I typically eat. Will definitely be back. I still want to try the salmon. We got in line just at the right time bc when we turned to sit down after ordering there was a long line that had formed behind us. Our food got done quickly and we sat down at the picnic tables to enjoy it. It was busy so we shared a picnic table with another family. Hopefully you don't mind doing that bc space is often limited.

Only downfall of catching them at an event is the limited menu, which didn't have the Kalbi (our favorite), furikake crusted salmon (another fave) and the pan fried poke. We were in north shore and barely made the cut at 11am for the Kalbi and ordered the last 2 plates! Honestly everything is good, but my two favorites are the Kalbi & furikake crusted salmon. Both are always cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Until next time!
So I have my favorites when visiting Oahu, and this is a must for me!!! Furikake crusted Salmon and kabli plate is fire. Must get extra sauce (and I like extra spice on mine too). The fish is so crispy even though it's drenched in sauce. Seasoned well, cooked perfectly, never dry and that crusty skin is tasty! Kalbi is tender and flavorful, with large potions. The bf and I share a plate and it's plenty for both of us. Everything is made to order and fresh, and they are quick to get your food to you. Ever since their Netflix special they are so popular, they sell out of the fish every day so make sure to get there by noon. Friendly staff and always so nice too! There's plenty of outdoor bench seating or you can take your food to the indoor beer garden for some shade. Plenty of little shops around to get some kick knacks too.
I saw this place on TikTok and was trying the kahuku shrimp at all the viral places. This place was good. I ordered the shrimp peeled and I think I should have left it on. The ribs were fatty and hard to eat. They were very sweet but still good. The shrimp was good and the mac salad was the best thing on the plate. I would recommend to try at least once to knock them off the list. Grab a plate here and then walk to Giovanni's to see who has the better of the two.
This was an alright plate for me. I'm not the biggest fan of garlic shrimp so maybe I should've gotten something else. The shrimp was super buttery and heavy, not my vibe. The garlic was good though. Also shrimp to rice ratio was way too off for me, had me eating spoonfuls of straight rice. The Mac salad is absolutely Gods gift to this green earth. Idk what's the special sauce in it but man it's so good. Creamy but not too heavy. Super good.
Some of the best plate lunches on the island! I try to stop by whenever they're at the What the Truck events at Waikele and Millilani. Service is usually quick but get there when they open to avoid lines. Must orders include the super tender Braised Boneless Kal Bi and the creamy and spicy Pan Fried Poke. Definitely follow them on Instagram to stay up to date on their monthly pop-ups.
This year, my new foodie friends and I planned to start our island food tour here. The area has changed so much! There used to be just a market, and maybe one or two trucks and/or food shops to choose from. Now it's a mecca of food trucks, so there's a lot to choose from. Luckily, we were early, found parking and were able to order. We shared the kalbi and the shrimp. Both come with rice and one scoop mac salad. The kalbi was so tender! The shrimp were buttery and full of garlic flavor! We didn't eat all our rice because we were planning to eat throughout the day. Staff was very friendly! Lots of people coming up to get lunch. Not sure if Da Bald guy was working, but it was all so good! Mahalo Bald Guy!
I'm so grateful he does pop ups in town because venturing out to Kahuku takes a bit of planning. So far my favorites would have to be hands down the Ribeye and Shrimp plates. The ribeye is super tender and both plates have so much flavor packed into it! I tried the Braised Boneless Kalbi and it is good and super soft! But the flavor isn't my cup of tea; I prefer my kalbi to be LA kalbi style so just something to keep in mind if that's what you were expecting Each plate can easily be shared between two people which gives you more room to try other items hehe I highly recommend coming super early for his pop ups because the lines gets ridiculously long. He is always our first stop of the list because you just can't risk certain items running out! (Trust me, I had this happen to me the first time and I was a very sad camper with what was left) read more
Da Bald Guy was at the Moili'ili Summerfest, this review is based on that experience. And HO my wife and I got two plates, one Pan-fried Poke and one Cajun Garlic Shrimp, and both were moono'ono. Both extremely solid 9/10. If you like poke, you'll probably like it pan-fried. The spicy ahi flavor is familiar, but the change in cook method adds a different dimension. If you like shrimp, and can handle a smidge of spice, you'll probably like the Cajun version. However, the limiting factor could be location. If you're in the area, or see them at an event, try go fa sho! read more
The hype is REAL. We had been trying to come here for the past three years, but between the early closing time and things selling out fast, we somehow missed it every single trip. This year, we were determined to make it early enough to finally try the Bald Guy, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was honestly divine. We tried the pan-fried poke, kalbi beef, furikake crusted salmon, chopped steak, and spam musubi, and every single thing was incredible. It was so good that we ended up eating here twice during our trip. Also, special shoutout to the mac and cheese because WOW... it is ridiculously good. My personal favorites were the poke, chopped steak, and kalbi beef, but truly everything we ordered was amazing. The staff was also super kind and helpful with all our questions. Just a heads up, they do sell out of certain items before closing, so definitely try to get there earlier rather than later. Cannot wait to come back! read more

So much flavor, and very generous portion sizes. I love a limited menu that still offers a variety of choices. The shrimp was packed with flavor! Tons of seating was available at comfortable picnic style tables with umbrellas, also surrounded by shade trees as well. read more

11/10 we make it a point to visit Da Bald Guy's at least 2 to 3 times per our 7 day visit to Waikiki each year! We originally stumbled upon this place in 2022 just looking for some food on the north shore not realizing they were part of a Netflix show hype, but man was it the best random "let's try that" we ever had. Super bummed they stopped the combo plates last year but as of Jan 2026 they are back on the menu!!! Recommendations in order 1. Pan Fried Poke in Spicy Mayo (10/10) 2. Kalbi Beef 3. Grilled Steak 4. Garlic Shrimp If you're a couple or duo, highly recommend getting a combo and splitting for the best variety! The portions are quite large and my gf always has some saved for left overs later in the day. Worth the drive and while up there make a day trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center! We've been wanting to stop by Da Bald Guy and around 1PM, they were already sold out of the kalbi and furikake-crusted salmon plates that we wanted to try. Clearly popular dishes, so definitely come early. That said, the pan fried ahi plate we got instead definitely more than made up for it. The ahi was super fresh, soft, and flavorful, with a perfectly light fry. The house spicy sauce drizzled on top tied everything together really well without overpowering the fish. The white rice was fluffy, and the mac salad was nicely tangy and balanced, not overly heavy. Portion sizes are generous, I easily got two full meals out of one plate, which made it feel very worth the price. Even though we missed out on some of their signature dishes this time, the food was so good that I'd absolutely come back earlier to try them next time. Definitely a spot worth checking out. Bonus is that there are picnic tables near the truck to eat at! read more

I had heard so many good things about this spot from TikTok and locals, all saying their plates are some of the best. When we arrived around 12:30 pm, they were already sold out of the galbi and furikake salmon plates. The only options left were the seared ahi plate, Cajun shrimp, or butter garlic shrimp. I went with the butter garlic shrimp plate, and I had no regrets. The shrimp was very firm and fresh, coated in a rich butter garlic sauce. I loved how the generous amount of sauce soaked into the fluffy, soft rice, creating a spectacular combination. The mac salad was the only slight disappointment,it didn't really stand out or have much flavor compared to the rest of the plate. It was still good, just a bit lacking. I also tried a bit of my gf's seared Ahi poke plate and it was good as well. The Ahi was seared and covered in this spicy mayo type of sauce whiched paired well with the rice. I'll definitely be coming back. Such a cute spot on the North Shore to grab a bite and really take it all in. read more
We heard about Da Bald Guy food truck from friends, and saw him on local cooking shows. Heard some days they sell out, so we got there around 11:15 on a Thursday. My dad got the Cajun garlic shrimp, bf got the garlic shrimp, and I got the furikake salmon. Entrees are $20 each - portions are huge. Both Dad and bf said they preferred Da Bald Guy shrimp to Giovanni's because it was less oily and more flavorful. Furikake salmon was great. We probably could have taken leftovers, but we ate it all. Parking was not bad in the shared lot, and staff were friendly and fast. We were able to sit in the shade next to the neighboring truck, and we explored the market and coffee shops after. Definitely recommend the next North Shore trip/any visitors passing through. read more
THE BEST. MAC. SALAD. IVE EVER HAD!!! We came here after seeing it on Netflix and we were not disappointed at all!! We got the kalbi, garlic shrimp, and the steak. The kalbi was by far my favorite!!! Melt in da mouth flavor. The garlic shrimp was my second favorite, and the steak was still tasty but a little well done in my opinion. Will definitely be coming back and will always be ordering the kalbi from now on. read more
I have heard of da bald guy's truck for a while now. I have seen it in town during a few selective events and festivals and I've seen videos discussing how this spot is a must visit on the north shore side. So when my friend, who is leaving the island, asked me to plan an itinerary of eats on the north shore, I made sure that it was a stop that is included on the trip. I heard that sometimes they can sell out and/or get quite busy. We luckily came on a Wednesday morning, so there were barely a wait and they seem to have everything on the menu. They have shaded seating (outdoor because they're a truck) near by. Only a few tables though but there are more seats at the sugar mills side, a short walk. We ordered the combo plate with braised kalbi short ribs and furikake salmon. Man, I really wanted to like this but the braised kalbi was very fatty and greasy, like overwhelmingly to a point where it masked the actual flavor of it. The furikake salmon was good, my friend and I devoured that, but the kalbi was definitely a struggle to eat (and they're KNOWN for the kalbi!). PLEASE note that it just simply isn't OUR preference, it wasn't BAD perse, just not appealing to us. I am sure there is some basis to why everyone else likes it so much. read more

Da Bald Guy was recommended to me by multiple friends who used to live in the area. My husband and I stopped by one morning for breakfast. We placed our order at the truck and waited about 10 min for our food to be made fresh. There are tables in the area as well! I had the Teri furikake spam - it was SO good. I mixed the teriyaki/furikake in with the eggs, rice, and spam. It was a fantastic combo of flavors. My husband had the vienna sausages for his breakfast and enjoyed it. This was a great spot for a cheap, filling breakfast with lots of flavor!! We'd love to try some other menu items in the future! read more

Solid place for Hawaiian BBQ in the north shore. Food truck with few benches for seating. Food here is loaded with an addicting sauce. I got the furikake crusted salmon with spicy sauce and braised boneless kalbi beef. The beef was flavorful and tender. Broke apart easily. Furikake salmon was covered with sauce that had a small kick. Decent crust but the sauce drenched it. Salmon cooked well. Delicious Mac and cheese. The pan fired poke was also solid and covered with teriyaki sauce and caramelized onion. Interesting dish since I haven't had cooked poke before but tasty. If you love your food drenched in sauce this is your place to go. Would come back if I'm in the north shore. Some parking spaces in this plaza along with other stores and trucks. read more

My friend and I were up north and decided to try Da Bald Guy. There's not a lot of marked parking stalls in the paved lot, but we were able to find stalls in the back on the dirt. We came around 12:45 on a Saturday, and right when we got there, they sold out of the kalbi! The two of us shared a two choice plate with the fried poke and caramelized steak. Both of these items were sooo yummy, and I would definitely come back! We were definitely stuffed after lunch and had to take a nap. There were some tables outside their truck, but they were all taken. We took our food further down where there were more tables. It's definitely worth making a stop at Da Bald Guy if you're out in Kahuku! read more

This was some of the best food I had in Oahu! It is 100% worth the hype! I was a little iffy on heading to da bald guy because it was already noon and I wasn't sure if they were going to have the plates I wanted in stock since I read they sell out fairly quick. Luckily when I went almost everything was still in stock and there was no line, however 5 min after I ordered I did see they sold out of the braised boneless kalbi. The Braised Boneless Kalbi was some of the best I've ever had! It literally melted in my mouth and had the best flavor ever. The Mac salad was also so yummy and complemented it very well. I am typically not a huge salmon fan but the crusted salmon was sooo good and not fishy. The sauces drizzled on top were amazing. The food was also made so fast, I could not recommend it enough! read more

Came here for the first time with my friends. Ordered the Combo Plate with their Braised Kalbi and Peeled Garlic Buttered Shrimp and the Pan-Fried Poke plate. I also ordered their refreshing Mango Otai. The kalbi and shrimp plate were super flavorful and delicious. The kalbi was super tender, and the shrimp was sooo garlicky delish. The Otai was soooo good and refreshing. Definitely a must if you're on this side of town. The poke plate was pretty decent, nothing crazy about this plate. Overall, very delicious, but pretty expensive as well. You should definitely try this place out at least once or a bazillion times if you're rich lol. Staff is super friendly and helpful. There are a lot of tables throughout this who property but be respectful to the other establishments and their side of the lot. Restrooms are located across from this place and require a passcode to enter so be sure to ask one of the workers before heading over. read more

I have been to Da Bald Guy's stand at the Waikele What The Truck event many times! If James is cooking, which he has been every time I've been there but once, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Their boneless kalbi beef is the absolute best I've had in my life, it's absolutely delicious! The kalbi is amazingly tender and packs a ton of flavor, it's one of my favorite things to eat hands down I don't think there's a better kalbi. I also really like their shrimp dishes. Unlike a lot of shrimp places on island, their shrimp are peeled so you don't lose any flavor by removing the exterior of the shrimp or have to eat the shell. The shrimp are large, juicy, soft and have amazing flavor. I usually get the garlic shrimp but I've tried all of them and they are all great! I'm not even a really big fan of Mac salad just because I don't care for mayonnaise that much but I really like their Mac salad. I'm even very picky when it comes to rice but I like their rice too! I have heard so much hype about Da Bald Guy so I have been wanting to try it and finally got my chance! To say the least I was very underwhelmed, the pan fried poke was not seasoned and had very little flavor. I wanted the kalbi but it was sold out so I got the chopped steak instead and the steak was clearly not high quality, very stringy, full of tendons in big pieces and not tender at all, also not seasoned well. Waited over 20min as they were very busy but for nearly a $40 plate this was a huge disappointment. read more
Got the boneless kalbi since it's what they are known for and it was pretty good and tender. Has good flavor but tbh portion wasn't as big as I would like for $20. I would try their garlic shrimp tho it looked pretty good. Food came out super fast, like immediately after I ordered so maybe it wasn't as fresh as normal. I wish i knew about this place sooner when visiting Oahu, HI. This has to be one of the best food trucks i have ever been to on the whole island. We ordered 2 combo plates which come with 2 scoops of rice and mac salad. We selected the following below: *Cajun Garlic Butter Shrimp *Peeled Garlic Butter *Shrimp Braised Boneless Kalbi Beef *Chopped Steak w/ Caramelized Onions The cajun garlic butter shrimp was definitely my favorite. The cajun seasoning is a tad spicy but boasting with flavor. The peeled garlic shrimp is more on buttery side but can still taste the garlic. The best part about the shrimp is you dont have to peel them they are already peeled for you. The braised boneless kalbi beef was so good ! It is filled with spices and flavors and was really enjoyable to eat. The meat was soft and tender. The chopped steak was also good as well, but i recommend other choices. The rice is nothing special but the MAC SALAD is probably the best i ever had on all the islands. The mac salad has a creamy texture similar to mac n cheese but also has a hint of cajun which worked really well. Needless to say it was very enjoyable. There a couple benches outside the truck. The ambiance is nice. There are also a bunch of other trucks around, but mostly the scenery displays the country outback of hawaii. The service was excellent as well. They got our order in a timely manner. The food tasted amazing and fresh. Most people talk about the food or restaurant they miss the most on vacation it's most definitely this place. read more

I was so excited to hear that Da Bald Guy was at the spam jam festival and boy the looooong line was worth the wait. So flavorful and fresh. I hope to visit and try their other dishes in the future! read more
Only reason I'm giving it less than 5 is cuz they ran out of the stuff I wanted to try. So we had to settle for the chipotle garlic shrimp and pan fried poke bowl. I wanted the regular poke and braised beef. Even though they weren't our first choices, they were still good and worth going again for the other stuff. We got there around 12:30pm on a Saturday and thought there would be a long line, but we got right up, found parking pretty quick and ate all in an hour. read more
