We have been amazed by the amount of food truck options the island has to offer. For every meal, he didn't want to search for a really good food truck that offered unique and local flavors. During a drive on Kamehameha highway we came across multiple food truck parks. One that caught our eye was the park with this food truck - simply because of the uniqueness that they had to offer. Everything on their menu was customizable and great when you have a further travel that has dietary restrictions. I ended up tasting their taro burger with chicken and taro fries. The bunnies unique they make it in house fresh every day. In all the experience was just amazing. I do recommend you stopping by this food truck for a quick bite if you're on this road trip and visiting the island. And if you're a local, you already know of this place and probably are a regular already!

Pleasantly surprised! Will definitely come back to try more in their menu + Food: I love their burger: so juicy and well- seasoned. I tend to not like when burgers are oily but this one doesn't feel like that at all. Their buns are made from taro but I didn't get a strong taro taste. They were out of the taro fries then but would love to come back to try. + Vibe: it's located in a food truck park with plenty of parking in a lot. Plenty of tables to sit as well. Service wasn't too slow.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet: I love taro, so my friend and I just stopped here to grab their taro fries. Man these are AMAZING they gave us so much and it HIT. It was like a better version of sweet potato fries. You must get this if you like fries and/or taro. I would LITERALLY drive to Kahuku from town JUST to get this.

Really great burger! Found that the buns hold better without veggie toppings. Taro fries are a must! Service was quick and seating was nice and shady

Taro burger bun was very delicious and tasty! The burger itself was a smash burger and it was so rich and tasty with arugula and grilled onions! The fried chicken sandwich was very standard, and it had fresh veggies on it. The taro fries were crispy and thick, very filling. Outdoor seating. Plenty of dirt lot parking. Quick service, burgers made fresh to order!

This place is a hidden gem. We came when we were visiting the area and we wanted a vegetarian option. We ordered da fun guy with the double taro patty and this burger was amazing!! The taro fries were very good as well. One burger was enough for both my husband and I. I highly recommend visiting. Food truck style and sit at the picnic tables.

Taro Hut popped up in my Yelp feed while we were in the North Shore looking for new spots to try. annddd I'm so glad it did! Since we just wanted to try Taro Hut we only ordered one item. #TaroEats: ~ HUT BURGERS: DA BOMB BACON - 5/5 This was one of the best and Unique Burgers I had... Beef Patty, Cheese, Crispy Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and Pickles Grilled Onions. Whats not to like? A perfectly done burger with an exotic Island flavor profile. Everything just worked so well together. That Toasted Ube bun takes it to different level. I'll most definitely be back to try their other items...

They were packed over the weekend but we managed to get some grub in. Burger and fries goes well all around. We got just that but to our surprise no taro burger bun. I guess they ran out. The regular bun did the work of the taro bun too. The burger was juicy and the fries were tasty. I think the sauce for the fries was a tad sweet for my taste, but hey, just use ketchup or eat them plain. No worries It was fun and was made pretty quickly. Will return

My hubby wanted a burger so he ordered the spicy Hawaiian. It took a few minutes but finally the food came out and it is definitely worth the wait. The burger is juicy and the taro bun is yummy and the grilled pineapple on it just so juicy and the spicy sauce just added to perfection.

Really unique and Hawaiian experience. We had the burgers with the taro patty. The service was friendly and fairly quick. The taro fries and the Spicy Hawaiian burger were the highlights. Simply delicious! The setting was in a cluster of food trucks which was a lot of fun to take in. There are facilities (bathrooms) nearby and parking is plentiful.

Da Bomb Burger and Taro Fries. They are bomb!

I got da bomb burger and I liked it a lot. Tasted great - juicy, flavorful, and slight sweetness from the taro bun. French Fries were really good as well - taro fries were interesting so to speak. Should definitely try! The guys running the hut are also friendly and cool~ Def worth 5 stars!!

First time trying this place after following them for sometime now on Instagram! So fresh and so ono. Service was fast and friendly. We can't wait to try this spot again! Keep up the great grinds!

Palusami bowl (vegan) taro leaves, root, and coconut milk

Taro aka kalo is a special food. It's nutritious from the root to the leaf. The taro hut brings taro to the main stage and the dance on your tastebuds is memorable. The food truck had no line and the food came out hot and fast. There are taro buns and taro slices, but the star for me is the palusami plate (vegetarians, vegan, and gluten free). The taro is cooked soft and then topped with melt in your mouth taro leaves. This is all saturated in the best coconut milk in your life. There's no canned stuff here. I was told that this is a Samoan preparation and I'm ready for more! The plate looks small but it is very filling. This is not to be missed. In fact, I loved it more than anything else I've eaten in the area.

I honestly thought it was wagyu misspelled but it's actually based on a type of sauce explained to me as sweet and savory. It was a plate lunch with 2 scoops rice, NY steak, and a side salad. The steak was cooked pretty well but after eating maybe 2 or 3 pieces I stopped. This is the kind of plate that gets better with time so I left it for a few hours and was not disappointed that the sauce marinaded more into the steak. Service was quick even with plate made to order. The only thing is you pay with cash or vendor. I do hope they have a card reader soon. We were welcomed into the small hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a neighborhood strip mall by a young woman named Telani. Telani could not have been more excited to tell us everything there was to know about the entire menu and the history of the family who owned it. Telani was so genuinely interested in us and asked question after question that made us feel like we were celebrities that had just walked into a small town diner. Telani is the star of this story, but I want to mention that the other two employees left a positive impression as well, amazing service is clearly a culture at this restaurant. Our shake took a little longer than usual because they were accommodating a young boy with a severe peanut allergy. At the end of our meal, Telani walked over and handed us a personalized postcard that she had written to commemorate our visit! This 17-year-old medical student at BYU Hawaii just put my own customer service expectations to absolute shame. I cannot wait to get back to my hotel staff and share this story and hopefully inspire them to start writing some postcards of their own. I've just finished writing one of my own. P.S. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

This being my next visit since seeing that episode, I had to try it. What did I order? - Mikes Huli Chicken Plate $17: 4/5 Stars - Chicken is a nice half chicken portion, perfectly juicy, nicely slight char taste. Crispy skin? I got the #9 plate, which is kalua pork, huli chicken, and I got mac salad. The kalua pork meat itself was fine. Not gristly and not too fatty. However, barely any smoke taste to it and was fairly bland. The huli chicken didn't have crispy skin. It seemed lukewarm like it had been cooked a while earlier and was just sitting. The sauce is amazing and I do think it's delicious with the sauce. Rice was just rice. Meh. Even adding shoyu didn't add much flavor to it, to be honest. The mac salad is extremely bland. I don't know if they need to add some acid to the mayonnaise or more salt, but it was pasty and no flavor. I would honestly skip getting the mac salad next time and get regular salad! That's how bad this mac salad was. Two slices of pineapple on the plate were fresh and flavorful. I did enjoy these. Service was okay. I had asked if they still honored kama'aina discount and was told no. That's fine; I understand not all places offer discounts. I don't know when kama'aina discount stopped being offered, but back in the day I used to receive it when asking. I did notice though that two guys who ordered before me got a "mahalo, braddah" in a friendly tone but I got a terse "thanks." Guess haole girls don't get mahalos even if local. It's just uncomfortable when certain people get friendly, effusive mahalos and others get terse thanks, like I didn't want to be serving you food today. Maybe cause it was Mother's Day and they didn't want to be there? Sure didn't feel like 'ohana today. So many flies around, it made eating uncomfortable. A few fly fans on tables but not at the one where I was seated, so it was basically like constantly shooing away flies and trying to take a bite of food super fast before they came back on my food. Probably I should have taken my food away and gone to the beer garden nearby with fewer flies. Meh. I used to really like Mike's but I will stick to Da Bald Guy and Seven Brothers when I visit the sugar mill in the future.
