We finally got to try Da Bald Guy yesterday--this has been on our list for years, but we always seemed to miss them since they close at 2 PM. When we arrived, it was almost closing and everything was sold out except for the spicy pan-fried ahi poke. That actually worked out perfectly because it was exactly what we had been wanting to try. Oh wow--it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold, savory, and had just the right amount of spice. We took our food over to Kahuku Beer Garden and enjoyed it with some beers, and it honestly hit differently in the best way. Definitely worth planning ahead for next time so we can try more from their menu.
My sister and I tried this food truck and got the 2 item combo. We had the boneless kalbi and the pan fried poke which i was kind of skeptical of the pan fried poke because I was scared the fish might be overcooked and the sauces will taste weird when it gets cooked but it was soooo delicious! The kalbi was so soft it literally melts and same as the pan fried poke. We shared the plate because it has really big portions but it came with Mac salad and rice as well. Service was fast and staff was friendly. They also have a couple benches for seating in front of their truck to eat. Couldn't forget about their kalbi of how soft and tender it was.
The peeled garlic butter shrimp ($20) from Da Bald Guy was one of the best bites I had during my recent trip to Honolulu. I love a good garlic shrimp, but I've only ever had it hot and thick on the sauce. At Da Bald Guy, such is not the case. For starters, the shrimp is peeled, leaving the actual shrimp itself to catch all the flavor. It's not heavily doused in sauce. Instead, the use of garlic butter is more intentional where you can taste the sweetness of the shrimp. Sensationally good. No notes. If you find yourself driving to the North Shore, do yourself a favor and stop by Da Bald Guys for their peeled garlic butter shrimp.
We just visited a tour from Kualoa Ranch and made a stop here as it was the midpoint to going to North Shore. It's located with a ton of other small trucks and eateries, so it's a nice pit stop just to wind down and relax! There's a convenient parking lot on the both sides of the whole area. When we visited around 1pm, it wasn't too crowded. More people waiting for their order and just 2 people ahead. The menu listed that they don't do combos anymore (sad!) and they ran out of galbi for the day. We really wanted to try the galbi! So we ordered the pan-fried poke, shrimp, and steak plates. It did take awhile for our order to be ready, since we were also killing time trying to find a table, find drinks nearby, etc. I mainly had the pan-fried poke which I do really enjoy the sauce, but I found it to be nothing too special. The idea of it sounds pretty neat, but I feel like the pan-fried poke was a bit too over done, it almost could have just been grilled fish at that point lol. The steak was pretty flavorful, and the shrimp had all the garlic bits that were pretty flavorful as well. The mac salad was also pretty nice, but pretty heavy and creamy. It is overall a heavy meal, which we all almost went into a food coma haha.
I saw this place on TikTok and was trying the kahuku shrimp at all the viral places. This place was good. I ordered the shrimp peeled and I think I should have left it on. The ribs were fatty and hard to eat. They were very sweet but still good. The shrimp was good and the mac salad was the best thing on the plate. I would recommend to try at least once to knock them off the list. Grab a plate here and then walk to Giovanni's to see who has the better of the two.
A must stop every time we visit Oahu! This time we were lucky to catch them twice at the pearlgate food truck event and at the usual spot in north shore. Only downfall of catching them at an event is the limited menu, which didn't have the Kalbi (our favorite), furikake crusted salmon (another fave) and the pan fried poke. We were in north shore and barely made the cut at 11am for the Kalbi and ordered the last 2 plates! Honestly everything is good, but my two favorites are the Kalbi & furikake crusted salmon. Both are always cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Until next time!
So I have my favorites when visiting Oahu, and this is a must for me!!! Furikake crusted Salmon and kabli plate is fire. Must get extra sauce (and I like extra spice on mine too). The fish is so crispy even though it's drenched in sauce. Seasoned well, cooked perfectly, never dry and that crusty skin is tasty! Kalbi is tender and flavorful, with large potions. The bf and I share a plate and it's plenty for both of us. Everything is made to order and fresh, and they are quick to get your food to you. Ever since their Netflix special they are so popular, they sell out of the fish every day so make sure to get there by noon. Friendly staff and always so nice too! There's plenty of outdoor bench seating or you can take your food to the indoor beer garden for some shade. Plenty of little shops around to get some kick knacks too.
Da Bald Guy was at the Moili'ili Summerfest, this review is based on that experience. And HO my wife and I got two plates, one Pan-fried Poke and one Cajun Garlic Shrimp, and both were moono'ono. Both extremely solid 9/10. If you like poke, you'll probably like it pan-fried. The spicy ahi flavor is familiar, but the change in cook method adds a different dimension. If you like shrimp, and can handle a smidge of spice, you'll probably like the Cajun version. However, the limiting factor could be location. If you're in the area, or see them at an event, try go fa sho!
This was an alright plate for me. I'm not the biggest fan of garlic shrimp so maybe I should've gotten something else. The shrimp was super buttery and heavy, not my vibe. The garlic was good though. Also shrimp to rice ratio was way too off for me, had me eating spoonfuls of straight rice. The Mac salad is absolutely Gods gift to this green earth. Idk what's the special sauce in it but man it's so good. Creamy but not too heavy. Super good.
Some of the best plate lunches on the island! I try to stop by whenever they're at the What the Truck events at Waikele and Millilani. Service is usually quick but get there when they open to avoid lines. Must orders include the super tender Braised Boneless Kal Bi and the creamy and spicy Pan Fried Poke. Definitely follow them on Instagram to stay up to date on their monthly pop-ups.
This year, my new foodie friends and I planned to start our island food tour here. The area has changed so much! There used to be just a market, and maybe one or two trucks and/or food shops to choose from. Now it's a mecca of food trucks, so there's a lot to choose from. Luckily, we were early, found parking and were able to order. We shared the kalbi and the shrimp. Both come with rice and one scoop mac salad. The kalbi was so tender! The shrimp were buttery and full of garlic flavor! We didn't eat all our rice because we were planning to eat throughout the day. Staff was very friendly! Lots of people coming up to get lunch. Not sure if Da Bald guy was working, but it was all so good! Mahalo Bald Guy!
I made the drive to get here when it opened at 6am and on a rainy day. It's about 70 min from Waikiki to this food truck area. I ordered the combo of boneless kalbi and the pan fried poke. Got it on top of rice and Mac salad. The boneless kalbi is amazing. Most tender kalbi I've ever had. Texture was just amazing. Melted in my mouth. Rice cooked just right. A bold creamy feel for the Mac salad. The fried poke isn't my cup of tea but I can see why people enjoy it. I would come back for a kalbi plate and try other dishes next time. We didn't come early enough. They ran out of garlic shrimp and furikake salmon right when we got there. I would have never ordered the rib eye steak. But I'm glad I did. It was amazing with the onions. It was something new and tastes wonderful. Service was quick and painless. Even on a busy Tuesday. It's a food truck with shared picnic tables. Get some good food with a back drop of the ocean. Last time we took it togo and ate it by the beach. But this time we were starving and ate it there. My first time was Sept 2022 after I watched Netflix street eats Hawaii. Great story and I got a shirt with dad & son's autograph. You need to watch it! Thank you Dabaldguy! read more
Luckily last night was Mae Mae family night. So I didn't have to travel all the way to Kahuku to try Da Bald Guy . Every year first Friday of May Mae Mae schools has its Family night . It's a big draw to the nearby community and schools . So I decided to order boneless Kalbi , rice and Mac salad . It was not bad the Kalbi was very soft and tender. Da Bald Guy is a food vendor within the Kahaku Sugar Mill complex. Da Bald Guy might be the more well known vendor on site: he generates his own social media content, and his food is the subject of other creators. If you are in Waikiki, this shopping center / this one vendor is not a destination in of itself. But if you are touring the North Shore, this is a good casual food stop. On this occasion, I ordered the boneless kalbi plate ($20.00) and a can of Coke ($2.00). My total reciept was $22.00 before gratuity, as no tax was indicated. The dish is marinated short rib, cooked in Korean kalbi sauce. It is served on a bed of white, steamed rice, and comes with a scoop of macaroni salad. I liked that this was boneless: It's easier to eat and you don't feel like you're paying for bone weight. The meat was tender, savory, and rich in texture. If I had any criticism, it is that the rice (on this occasion) was a bit overcooked. Then again, this is a food truck (not a kitchen). read more
Da Bald Guy is definitely getting added to my rotation every time I visit OAHU . This food truck is worth the hype and the drive up to the north shore . We visited recently on a Friday afternoon and luckily there were only a couple standing in line In front of us . We placed our order with the sweet cashier and waited only about 10 minutes for our food . Here's what we ate: KALBI AND GARLIC SHRIMP COMBO PLATE: First off, the portion is HUGE . This did me and my kids to the point of a kanak attack, but we couldn't stop eating until the box was empty lol . The kalbi was juicy and super flavorful . The meat just deteriorated in your mouth because it was too tender . The shrimp presentation was beautiful and served in a delicious garlic butter that is drenched over the fresh steaming hot rice . SOO GOOD !! 100/10 We loved that there were a few cafeteria style tables to sit at in from the of truck itself, but since it was a rainy day we ate in the car . Overall, I would totally recommend Da Bald Guy to friends and family and I am coming back to try the rest of the plates soon !! read more

Went to Da Bald Guy as it was highly recommended by a friend and I could see why! It was definitely worth the drive and the time getting here as the shrimp and the salmon tasted great. Located in an open food cart area the vibes here were also amazing. A great back drop to some great food! Ordering was quick and easy and the food came out very fast! 4 stars instead of 5 because the sauce on the salmon was a bit much for me but I'm sure other would greatly enjoy it. read more
very fast service and amazing food. it is located right next to seven brothers so i would recommend parking near there. the seats were outside and it was also next to a beer garden where you can bring food, there are also bathrooms nearby that were clean, but you do need a code. read more

THE BEST. MAC. SALAD. IVE EVER HAD!!! We came here after seeing it on Netflix and we were not disappointed at all!! We got the kalbi, garlic shrimp, and the steak. The kalbi was by far my favorite!!! Melt in da mouth flavor. The garlic shrimp was my second favorite, and the steak was still tasty but a little well done in my opinion. Will definitely be coming back and will always be ordering the kalbi from now on. read more
Breakfast options are pretty limited in the North Shore but seeing that this was open at 6am, I had to check it out Da Bald Guy! I was familiar with this place because it was featured on Street Food: USA on Netflix. I was so excited to try it! We ordered a few of the $5 breakfast options which features either maple sausage or smokies served with 2 eggs and a scoop of rice! For $5, you can't ask for a better value, especially on a Hawaiian island! The absolute star dishes were the Pan fried Poke, Galbi, and Crusted Salmon dishes. The beef Galbi was cooked absolutely perfect! Very tender, succulent beef that you barely had to chew! The poke, although was fried, was still a very fresh flavor and very enjoyable! This was chef James' signature dish and it's incredible! The furikake salmon also provided that really good sushi bake flavor and the clean freshness of the fish is what makes it so tasty! The macaroni salad is the absolute best one ever tried in my life! I could eat tubs of it! Whenever you are in the north shore, this place is a 100% must! Can you believe that I didn't like poke before visiting Oahu this past week? The spicy pan-fried poke was soooo good! The sauces were just chef's kiss, so was the mac salad. I will say I was slightly disappointed in the kalbi beef, but that's just me. The meat was extremely soft and tender but the flavor wasn't there for me personally. Nevertheless, so happy we got to try and see Da Bald Guy! read more
I have no idea why there are so many rave reviews but this place is not good. I couldn't finish the seared poke, it had a weird fishy taste to it unlike fresh poke or seared ahi. The steak was okay. Ordering process was fine. There are much better food trucks on the island, I wouldn't go out of your way for this one. read more
My coworker recommended this place to me and I am SO glad it was in the same plaza as other food trucks so my family and I could all try different things. There's a seating area in the front of the truck. The truck itself is really pretty! I love the design. From the menu, I was torn between the fried poke and the braised boneless beef, but the cashier recommended the beef because she said that was what they were known for. I am so glad she recommended it. The beef was so tender and flavorful. It was delicious!! We got a second plate after finishing it because it was so good. The furikake salmon was also really good. I loved how it was crispy, the flavoring. AMAZING. A must get! We also got both the garlic shrimp and the chipotle shrimp. I loved that the shrimp was peeled, but the I would definitely pass on this and get the beef and salmon instead. Can't wait to go back next time we're in Oahu!! read more
Da Bald Guy is hands down some of the best food I've had in Hawaii! I ordered the kalbi beef and the furikake salmon. The beef was unbelievably tender, delicious with that perfect savory sweet flavor that just melts in your mouth. The salmon had a great umami flavor, with a tasty furikake crust that added a satisfying crunch over the tender fish. We ordered both dishes together which were served over a bed of rice with and side of mac salad. Super flavorful and totally satisfying. I also got to chat with James, he's a really genuine, chill dude. You can really feel the aloha in the way he cooks and serves his food. The whole experience just felt warm and welcoming. Now I'm stuck dreaming about it from a whole ocean away. read more

Came to Da Bald Guy for their Boneless Kalbi Short Rib which is definitely a plate that standout. The kalbi, marinated well, is tender and packed with flavor. It's grilled just right. It's nicely paired with a generous serving of fluffy white rice and a creamy mac salad. This plate offers the perfect blend of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors. But, I would prefer a little less rice and more meat. The mac salad adds a nice contrast to the warm, rich short ribs, and it's a little different because it has a slight spice to it. I did want to try their Fried Poke Plate but it unfortunately was out. It a great location because it is close by other food trucks, cafes, and eateries and it can go nicely with one of the smoothies, coffees, or juices. Thus, there are many possibilities to include with your meal and note there are benches with tables for seating. read more

Just got a plate from the Magically Blessed Fest at King Intermediate. Kalbi sold out ordered rib eye w/caramelized onions. Flavor good but one of the lightest plates I've ever had. Barely any onions and rice. Rice would have bulked up the plate however it was scraping the bottom. I think it might be better to buy a plate at his usual spot but these events are packed and I'm guessing food needs to be stretched especially when there's TONS of people! I went there specifically for their braised boneless kalbi beef. Comes with rice and macaroni salad $20. The boneless kalbi beef was so tender bite after bite. Good taste too. So ono! Garlic butter shrimp was cooked perfectly and deshelled! $20 Chipotle Cajun butter shrimp was good too. $20 Spicy pan fried ahi was very spicy to me. Pan fried very good. Still soft, not overcooked. We got this and the last of the braised boneless kalbi beef as a combo $35. The mac salad, tho, I cannot pinpoint the taste. It's not your regular kind of mac salad. I thought it had a hint of poke sauce. Hopefully I'll find out because I keep trying to retaste it in my head . I got there around 1:00pm. The line was short, but they were running out of menu items. The furukaki crusted fresh fish was already out. We bought the last of the braised boneless kalbi beef. Their food is not salty which is perfect for my palate. They have condiments like tobacco, hot sauce, shoyu and such that you can sprinkle onto your food. There's picnic tables with picnic umbrellas to eat at in front of them. There are tons of food trucks around here and other hidden gem restaurants if you're willing to look. That being said the food is good but it was nothing special. I know this may be controversial. For $20 you get a large helping of white rice which is nice but just plain cooked rice. Some other food trucks in the area spice it up with the rice. The steak was cooked really well and they top it with a sweet and savory sauce that is delightful. But after exploring the island and other food trucks, everyone does this same thing for the same price (example steak shack, most steak food trucks). The one distinction is the do spice up the Mac salad and have a rule against subbing the rice for it. While I'm not a Mac salad fan this is the one difference I noticed. All in all 7.1./10. read more

Heard so many great things about da bald guy. But could never find his truck or when I do his food is sold out. You can find his food truck at pop up events, night markets, what the truck events. So most time the truck will be parked in a lot. Today it was a hot day to be standing in line for da bald guy, and he ran out of mostly everything but steak and shrimp. I should have tried the shrimp but opted for the steak. The steak was seasoned with a spice that I could not figure out what it was, I thought it was ok. I didn't care for the Mac salad. I don't know how it's flavored or what they put in it, but the Mac salad was a no for me. I wouldn't mind trying the shrimp next, but all rice. read more

Enjoyed the Boneless kalbi plate and my friends had the peeled garlic shimp, and salmon. Everyone enjoyed their plates. The kalbi was one of the most tender kalbis, but wished it was soaked a little longer. The peeled garlic shimp is really good and you don't have to get your fingers messy peeling them. Service was quick and loved the country outdoors feeling. read more

it took some time to get your food even tho there wasn't a line but the food was great! We love the Braised Boneless Kalbi Beef, so tender and tasty!! Would come back just for this. Definitely a go to spot when in Kahuku area. Breakfast is cheap and the lunch menu is always a hit. I got the pan seared poke and boneless kalbi combo plate. Service is always good and fast. Wait time was maybe 5 min depending if busy or not. Love it here read more
Everytime we come to the North Shore, we drive by to see if The Bald Guy is open. Never is. They sell out of their good stuff early and then close up shop. Now I understand why. Today was our lucky day! They were open and I almost jumped out of the car, I was so excited. We ordered the Cajun butter Shrimp plate and let me just telll you....woooo did that put this place on a whole different level for me. For Shrimp, we usually go to Giovannis. It's been a favorite for years. We finally found a place that surpasses our go-to. No peel shrimp, about 10 of them, spicy in all the right places, and freshly made with the perfect amount of cook time. Tender, juicy, & oh so yummy! On a bed of rice with homemade mac salad ftw! Yesss please! We will be back for more....if we're lucky again. read more
The best food truck on Oahu. Must visit place if you travel to Hawaii. Menu is simple. They provided breakfast and lunch. I tried their signature boneless Kalbi before and it tasted delicious. Currently my favorite is their Furikake Crusted Salmon. OMG! It's freaking good. The salmon was very moist and flavorful. My parents always order their Peeled Garlic Butter Shrimp. They said it tastes better than Giovannis. In addition, DO NOT miss their pan-fried poke. It's exceptionally delicious. Very friendly staffs and fast service. There're 3 tables for people to sit down and enjoy the food. I heard they just bought the food truck from JOJA and renovated it. Overall- DO NOT miss this food truck in North Shore. read more

Da best... One guy had been on my list it's Da Bald Guy and thanks to Honolulu Night Market in Kaka'ako it's been checked off. Though not my first experience enjoying his dishes it was through an event that I've been lucky to enjoy but I really wanted to get my hands on his plate. On this night he surely didn't disappoint with choices of Pan Fried Poke (spicy or regular), Chopped Rib Eye Steak, Boneless Braised Kalbi and Butter Garlic Shrimp (Spicy or Regular) and though I had intent of getting the Rib Eye it was the Pan Fried Poke since I haven't tried it yet and regular with aioli. With basically no wait as I watched in awe Da Bald Guy making it all along side staff finishing with sauce and garnishes was a very well developed system. The rice was cooked perfectly with a slight bite like you'd enjoy on a sushi so the ride home didn't get it all soggy and was still in prime bites. In the midst of the Night Market and the long lines the vibe was amazing and so was my plate. Thank you! read more

Yum! My husband and I are big fans of The Great Food Truck Race so when we found out where the truck was while on a tour in Oahu, we had to make a point to come back to try it out! So glad we did. I ordered the butter garlic shrimp and my husband ordered the braised beef. Both of our meals were delicious, and they give you so much food! Both of ours were good for two meals. My husband said the beef just melted in your mouth, so I had to try it out and totally agreed. The butter garlic shrimp was so well seasoned. Nice truck, good selection of options. Friendly staff. The only thing we were disappointed about was that he wasn't actually there when we went--but that's ok! We just wanted to see him in the flesh after watching the show. Highly recommend. read more
We finally had a chance to try the bald guy on the North Shore of Oahu on 6/17/25. We ordered the peeled garlic butter, shrimp, and boneless short rib plates. We enjoyed the peeled shrimp but prefer the shrimp with the skin. we thought the flavor was good, but it tasted more like Cajun shrimp rather than the original garlic butter, shrimp that were used to. The service was good. Their staff was friendly. The food came out quick, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the short rib was delicious. They provided some tables for those who want to enjoy their meal on site. They are located in Kahuku where all the food trucks are. Definitely worth the try and if you're in the area, definitely worth stopping by and trying their delicious food if you like your shrimp peeled, then this place is definitely for you. We made the trip out to north shore just to try the food trucks and we were very curious about this place! We were craving garlic shrimp and I'm happy to report that the two shrimp options on the menu was perfect for our group of 4 to share! Me and my husband got the spicy Cajun garlic shrimp and it was so delicious, I could eat the garlic sauce with just the rice by itself! I thought the portions were big but the amount of rice they provide is on the heavier side I must say. If you're in the area, def take some time to explore the other trucks and vendors out that area as well! We would definitely be back. read more

I picked up some garlic shrimp from Da Bald Guy's stand at the SALT night market and was underwhelmed. The shrimp was very salty and not as flavorful as some of the other locations I got garlic shrimp while in Hawaii. Not sure if maybe they are better on their actual food truck than at the night market stand as the night market stand seemed to be very chaotic with a long line but this particular time I tried it was not great. Would be open to trying from their actual truck in the future. read more
