This is a very nice local restaurant. I prefer to support local businesses whenever possible. The breakfast here was good. Overall, it is a nice home style cafe. My only concern was that I have wanted to eat here a few times when the restaurant was closed for a private event. read more

We brought friends to try our newest foodie find and most of us loved what we'd ordered. The chicken fried chicken plate was 5 stars, the old timer smothered hamburger steak was 5 star, the BLT was 5 star, the only dissenting vote was the fried catfish...2 stars...our friend loves catfish and she's very picky....all of the sides were tasty, mac n cheese, fried okra...we ate so much that there was no room for pie....next time. I really don't want to review this place as being great, because I'd like to keep it slow, so we don't have a wait when we do go there. This place is like a hidden gem and we're not willing to share this place. lol. So far, the food has been good except for the Old Timers. Unfortunately, it came out overcooked and like a hockey puck. We told our server Bailee, and were given a complimentary slice of Key Lime Pie. My family loves their key lime pie now. We've had their Sunday Brunch twice now and it's not really bad for the price. I think it's $12.99. The first time we got the buffet brunch, they served roast pork loin. It was delicious. The second time we had meatloaf and it was ok. I really like their potato/eggs/sausage dish. The potatoes are very yummy. You can order biscuits and gravy, toast, or pancakes from the kitchen. They serve french toast in the buffet. If I had a choice, I'd prefer if they would put the syrup on the tables instead of at the buffet. I'd like to put it on my french toast after I eat the other food on my plate and don't prefer to have syrup on all of my other food. The first time I ever ate there, I was determined to try the country fried steak then changed my mind and got the fried pork chops. The crust was crispy, but I was given an "end", bone-in. It definitely wasn't like a center cut pork chop. It was a big piece and it wasn't dry. Their biscuits are really good. The country fried stead (I tried it the 2nd time) was ok. It wasn't the best I've ever had. This won't deter me from going again, though. Overall, I like the place. And I apologize in advance if this is offensive to anyone, but my first thought was this was where the older population go to eat. I ordered Biscuits with Sausage Gravy and coffee for breakfast. What I got was two biscuits sliced open with pieces of breakfast sausage sprinkled over the biscuits with cream gravy on the side??? I've NEVER seen that before! When I asked the waitress, she told me "that's how the chef makes it" !!! If a restaurant can't make Biscuits with Sausage Gravy CORRECTLY....I'd never go back !!! . 5/25/17. Went back again today to see if the BISCUITS WITH SAUSAGE GRAVY was any better! It was NOT! We are staying in the local Army Core of Engineers park, Cedar Break. We decided to go out for breakfast and picked this place from Yelp. It is a buffet with more then breakfast food. First visit to this restaurant under the new owners. Came in on Sunday morning and 9:30am. Not very busy at all, probably a dozen or so tables with customers. Immediately we were not greeted at the door or anyone else. Since the seating area is very open I felt like we were on display so I finally walked over and asked if we needed to seat ourselves. A young lady apologized for not being at the door. The person seating us informed us that on Sunday the don't have a breakfast menu service. They offer a Buffett only for $8.99 before 10am. We agreed and were sat down. We got up and started to proceed to the buffet line, generally the typical breakfast fair such as sausage links (no patty sausage) French toast squares, fried potatoes, fresh fruit and then they had an egg/omelette bar. The egg omelette bar was very good. I can't say too much for the Link sausage, they tasted like they were possibly from local fast food restaurant, the French toast squares are also cold. That was about it for the breakfast buffet. Very sparse and pretty disappointing. The egg omelette bar like a stated earlier was good however when I walked up to place an order it felt very uncomfortable as if I was bothering the guy making the eggs as he was speaking to another coworker which left me standing there feeling like an idiot. The omelet I had was good and pretty much saved my visit. Lastly, all the normal condiments should be on the table already, this means catch up, warm syrup if there are pancakes or French toast on the bar. Overall the food was just decent. I would say they still got some kinks to work out as far as their service and attention to detail go. 1. Customers must be immediately greeted at the door, every employee on the floor should look up and make sure the customer is it knowledged when they walk in the door. 2. Make sure all the items on the breakfast bar are warm. 3. Never seen a breakfast bar without bacon and patty sausage. 4. All condiments need to be on the tables. 5. Might help if they put a sign on Williams drive indicating that there is a restaurant there. While our visit wasn't a disaster they have a few areas to work on in my opinion. Well this is a cute little gem that we had no idea existed. Even with maps guiding us, we still missed the turn. Still, we stopped in here for dinner yesterday and were pleasantly surprised! We were seated pretty quickly and the server answered the questions I had about menu items and ingredients. I had the veggie omelette with grits and fruit, and my husband had fried catfish with mashed potatoes and fries. He enjoyed his food for the most part (he said the fries were a little lackluster) and I really liked my meal! The fruit seems to actually be cut in house, and was made up of more than just underripe honeydew and cantaloupe with mushy grapes. This mix had a ton of ripe pineapple and cantaloupe, along with watermelon and was really delicious. Grits were a little stiff, but it was the end of the day for them (we left 2min before closing), so that's to be expected as far as I'm concerned. The veggie omelette was perfectly done, stuffed with veggies, and absolutely delicious. We didn't get ice cream yesterday, but I definitely plan to soon, since ice cream is only $1/scoop. We got the soup and sandwich deal for a grilled cheese and cup of soup. One of us got the tomato basil which was fabulous, and the other tried French onion which was underwhelming. Sandwich was really small with cup of soup - if I could do it over I would order grilled cheese sandwich and just add a cup of tomato basil soup. That soup was excellent. Friends with us had a burger, pancakes, and chicken strips, and they said it was all great, so maybe we just ordered poorly. Also adding bacon jam to the grilled cheese was $1.60 - don't recommend. Great find. You would never know this spot was there if you werent looking. We happened to be in Georgetown and needed some lunch so here we were. Our server Bailee was so pleasant and efficient. Excellent service from such a young person is not always the case, but she was great. The menu is full of comfort food. I had the spinach strawberry salad and substituted salmon for the chicken. She worked it out and the slad was served perfectly. My husband had pancakes and sausage, go figure. They also had homemade pies, the variety changes daily. Waste of time. Never again will we try to eat there. I say try because my husband went in to get a table waited a few minutes while staff looked at him and passed by him several times before acknowledging him. We were sat in patio and ignored after that for nearly 15 minutes. No food or drink order was ever taken. The server went out there 3 times while we were sitting there waiting. I have eaten at Simmer Down numerous times and never been disappointed! This place is affordable and the food is the kind of comfort food I crave when I just want to get a sense of normalcy. They have a very good buffet that includes omelettes cooked to your specifications on weekends. This place offers something to everyone! The only complaint I have is that they have been closed on a number of occasions probably due to the unstable times we live in, but thankfully, it's getting more consistent now that things are a little more stable. read more

Horrible experience. Sat on the patio and after being greeted by the waitresses - we waited 20 minutes before she returned, only to say she forgot our drinks. No problem there, but she left and still forgot to bring them. After waiting another 15 minutes, and watching her walk back and forth beside us, we decided to help. In fact, we had to go inside 3x. Once for our drinks, second time for silverware, and last because she forgot to bring parts of our meal. We asked to speak to the owner, and he said you typically get better service if you sit inside. Are you serious?! After being obnoxious, demeaning , and sarcastic, he proceeded to make light of what happened. Sad that this poor owner doesn't realize the significance of customer service and respect. Simmer Down is a favorite for breakfast (all day) & lunch. They serve a variety of selections, all wonderfully made, and have a welcoming & efficient staff. We decided to finally give this place a try after months of driving past it twice a day. I had the short stack breakfast and my wife had the veggie omelette. Both were really good! They offer a nice assortment of non caffeinated hot herbal teas as well. The server was friendly and helpful. The place could use a little redecorating. First priority if I was management there would be to get the buffet tables out of the dining room and put away in storage whenever there is not an actual buffet happening. They are sort of junky looking. It just gives the impression that someone is too lazy to put things away when they are not in use. Other than that, the appearance is cozy and comfortable. Service is great, and breakfast was great. Update: Came in again for breakfast. Wife had veggie omelette, I had short stack of pancakes with bacon. The food was superb. The young man who waited on us was on the ball and friendly. The music on the sound system was terrible new-fangled Nashville country. Really awful and tasteless, bordering on offensive. But the food is so good that it's worth the musical sufferfest. Another update: About a week later, stopped in for dinner. Patty Melt is to die for! And wait for it.....retail friendly music! 10 out of 10 this Update yet again: Simmer Down has become our number one place for anytime I want to treat my wife to a healthy meal without having to cook at home. They had limited drinks available due to boil water advisory but I get that so not knocking them for it. We ordered breakfast from what I would say is a limited menu. Wanted to like this place because it is so close to home; and it would be great to have a go-to place with lots of food options. Service was prompt and attentive for dinner. Food: there was a lot of it in terms of choices and volume. I expected equally large depth of flavor, being southern-style cooking. Unfortunately, it was just flat in flavor. No sense of dishes simmering all day. I can tell they are trying diligently, and I applaud that. I'm hoping they will tweak recipes, and focus on tasty basics. Perhaps a smaller menu would be more manageable for quality offerings. We will try again sometime, and hope they find the recipe to success here in Georgetown.
