July 10, 2026, 9:02am. We arrived to have breakfast. Server Iris said to sit ourselves. Iris arrived shortly, introduced herself with a pleasant smile and took our coffee order. Once back with the coffee, she took our orders. Our orders arrived in a timely manner. Our breakfast meals were of generous portions including crispy bacon and plenty of sausage gravy with my biscuit. Our food was to our expectations! Note: if paying with a card, the processing fee of 3% is added to your bill; no music playing as we ate-so different with the muted atmosphere compared to other "blasting" restaurants and lastly, a bit chilly inside with the overhead fans is use (yes, we are on the senior side of life). Here's a cI'm giving this place 2 stars. We were seated quickly, which I appreciated, but unfortunately the rest of the experience didn't live up to expectations. They were clearly understaffed, and the wait times were very long even though the restaurant wasn't busy. The staff themselves were sweet and polite, and I want to give them credit for being kind despite the situation. However, the food was very underwhelming. It just wasn't good, especially considering how long we waited. The quality didn't match the time or the expectation. Saw the kitchen nightmares episode and decided to try it since it wasn't too far. Food came out fast and was really good. Our server, Liz, was the best server we've ever had. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my friend got the chicken fried steak with fries and mac and cheese. Both of the dishes were really good. What a fantastic late breakfast stop I made here. The best cooking is the simple classic done extremely well. Simmer Down hit that for me. Granted it was a single visit, but from the first interaction with staff to the first look at the plate I knew I was enjoying something special. Eggs (scrambled), bacon (crispy) and hashbrowns (wow). Yawn not, my friends. I'm a baconator, a serial bacon killer, an unabashed orderer and devourer of the swine strips. My bacon sat patiently unattended while I scarfed down the best hashbrowns! Seasoned well. Crispy on the outside and deliciously tender inside. I was sitting alone but made noises like I was passionate with another lol. The eggs were fluffy and beautifully plated. And the bacon? The baconator left licking his lips and happy. I'm going back. See you there -- I'll be the moaning solo eater with the hashbrowns. This is probably one of only a few who has country cooking in Georgetown, so I go there a lot. Moved from Weatherford where there is a to of choices, not so much here in Central TX. The food is pretty good, the service is lacking as many other reviews has said. Once your food is delivered, don't expect to see your server again until they figured you should be finished and drops the bill on your table. I love grits, but they are made way too thick here. I took mine home and patch a few places on my stucco wall. Their drink glasses are very small, so drink sparingly since you won't get a refill unless you go to the kitchen yourself. Last experience here was awful but my friend picked this place today. Interior had been touched but nothing spectacular. Disappointed the transformation was not more impactful. Went for a late morning breakfast. Restaurant wasn't crowded but still waited 10 minutes at the door to be seated together with another party.,Should have been the clue to leave. Waited and waited and waited for everything. 15 minutes to get a straw for our drinks. Half of my breakfast entree was delivered with my friend's breakfast and when I asked where the rest was, the waiter said he had to check and acted surprised. Really? My friend and I were finished when the rest of my breakfast arrived at least 15-20 minutes later. Waiter could have cared less. Sausage patties were extremely well done and obviously reheated since they were like rocks. The 2 pancakes were silver dollar size. No offer of a refill on our drinks. Asked for a box for the portion of my breakfast just arrived which was another 10 minute wait. The only time the waiter actually stood there was when he delivered the check and stayed until we paid. Too bad I didn't have the cash to not leave a tip. Skip this place. Both food quality and service are terrible. read more

Finally got to the cute restaurant across the street, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the two-egg (over-medium) breakfast with bacon, hash browns, and rye toast, with a little side of sausage gravy (I like it on the hash browns). EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection, served timely, hot, and delicious. Hunter, our server, was awesome: attentive, articulate, amiable, all top notch A+! Stopped here on a Sunday morning, not realizing they do buffets on sundays. Fine by me. Everything was good, but the service & friendliness of the staff is what really shines. They were more than helpful, checked in multiple times, even offered me items that were on the menu & not on the buffet. Excellent experience I was not expecting. Everything was "sir", "thank you sir", etc. I'll definitely keep this place in mind next time I'm in Georgetown! read more

Never got food waited over hour to never be served coffee was watered down and cold would never go here again

Edited to remove assumptions... What happened to this place? We moved to town in November and this quickly became one of our go to spots. Wife and I paid a visit tonight and it was really disappointing. As we walked towards the front door there was a strong smell of marijuana. I saw someone get out of a white Isuzu Rodeo, exhaling a cloud of smoke then walk into the kitchen. I love meatloaf and make it often. If I see it on a menu somewhere I'll likely order it. During this visit to Simmer Down they had meatloaf on the specials board so I had to give it a shot. It came with two sides which I ordered mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The meatloaf was...um...well...really bad! It had this weird mush texture which occurs when you mix it too long. The ends were obviously burnt/overcooked. This was without a doubt the worst meatloaf I've ever had. It should be a crime to serve meatloaf that bad. The mashed taters were barely room temp. A few bites were seemed like they were "right from the fridge" cold. I guess the stoner cook suffers from short term memory and forgot to microwave the taters. The star of the meal was the creamed corn. Kinda hard to mess that up but these were really good! The creamed corn is the only reason this got 2 stars. Well that plus the fact Yelp won't let you give 0 stars. While we're sitting there eating you could hear bass from a car stereo. It was so loud it caught everyone's attention. A few folks from the table next to us even walked to the windows to see where it was coming from. Apparently the stoner in the white Isuzu decided to go back outside and be Mr. Cool attempting to impress his stoner friends. The thumping of his stereo became totally annoying to the paying customers sitting inside trying to enjoy their dinner. Anyway, we paid the ticket and walked out to our car. By then the guy in the white Isuzu Rodeo had left but some other friends of the staff pulled up in their black Honda truck with more bass thumping. Apparently Simmer Down has become a place for kids to hang out. This explains why every time we go there there's a ton of empty tables and have never had to wait to be seated. If Simmer Down wants to remain open they need to have a major overhaul. read more

We were proud that they had a great meal and that Georgetown has a great option for a comfort style meal. We have only lived here 3 months, but we frequent this restaurant. read more

Went here on Mother's Day and it was not even that busy waited to be seated for at least 30 minutes looked at the menus. There wasn't anything that good. I visited this restaurant for a birthday lunch on Friday. I had heard rumors that Gordon Ramsay had dined/helped here, and wanted to see if he had any lasting impact. The inside of the diner is a mixture of tables and booths with a lot of upscale decor featuring neon. There's also a large patio area, weather permitting. I'll have to admit I was in a mood to eat, but nothing on the menu looked appealing at 2:00 in the afternoo-- and I hadn't even had breakfast that day. I felt like there were no middle ground entrees that were healthy or at very least less unhealthy. Eventually we each had a baked potato with butter and cheese and shared sides of macaroni and fried okra. The baked potato was small for the price and just had butter and cheese. There was a loaded baked potato on the menu that cost more but we decided against it. The mac and cheese was good but institutional grade. The fried okra was tasty but on the edge of lukewarm by the time it made it to our table. Service was somewhat erratic, very pesky at first to take the order and then poorly followed up there after. It gave us the feeling that we needed to hurry up and get out. They do serve breakfast all day so maybe that would have been a better bet. But there are other restaurants in in near Sun City that are better than this one. I doubt I'll be back, though. Neither recommended nor discouraged. read more

I came here because of the publicity that this place received recently from the media. The first thing I noticed was the decor. It is dull and unattractive. There are many tables. The service is atrocious. There was not many people inside and I waited at the front podium to be seated for about 10 minutes. My son actually sat down in the little sitting area in the lobby. When an employee approached the podium, he asked me if my whole party was there, I said yes, and nodded towards my son. The employee then said why aren't you sitting with him, you should be sitting with him! I said I'm good. Can I have a booth please? He then let us to a booth and begin to tell us a scenario he had in the morning because he didn't know he had to work, and then when he realized he had to work, it made him angry at his girlfriend. This was totally random. His eyes were squishy his body language is erratic. We ordered 3 orders of hashbrowns and fruit. It took about 25 to 30 minutes to get hashbrowns and fruit. And then he only brought us two orders instead of three. We didn't say a word. The hashbrowns and fruit tasted fine. We waited about another half an hour, and then I got his attention and asked him for the check. He then apologized for not coming back to the table and took our payment. He was still speaking quite erratically. In a nutshell, the environment/decor is poor, the service is even worse. The food was fine, nothing special, but not bad. I will never be back. read more

I randomly stopped by this spot the other day- It's like an elevated diner. I ordered desserts- some items for dinner. It was breakfast time- My omelette- was pretty greasy- I had them scramble it. It wasn't bad. Just very oily. E loved all of the food that I brought back home for dinner and dessert. Apparently, they have Sunday brunch buffet. We arrived at 10:30am so the restaurant wasn't crowded or noisy which provided a good ambiance for a first date. The twin servers were great! And the food was a delight-- one full breakfast buffet AND a lunch buffet. So I also enjoyed meatloaf, real mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and sweet tea. My husband and gave this place another try. We heard the restaurant had some improvements recently and wanted to give this place another chance. We went in for the happy hour 1/2 price appetizers and discounts on drinks. We went around 2pm. There was only 1 or 2 tables of other customers. The staff were pleasant but our waitress kept disappearing. We found out she was in training. We ordered the pork sliders which were very dry no taste and seemed to be old. We ordered the fried mushrooms which were edible. The queso not bad but the chips were not cooked. Lastly the smootherd fries. They were under cooked. The waitress in training never came back. We had another server finish up with us. He kept reminding us what a great deal we were getting for happy hour. So Unprofessional! I would not recommend or come back to this place. so bad. read more

There was almost as many waiters as there were full tables, and several parties that came after us were all sat and had their orders taken. I had to get up to find a waiter and tell them we were leaving because we had sat there for 35 minutes. They waiters sat there with blank faces and just said "ok", no apologies or any care. Simmer Down cleared of church pew seating No more Tea Parties, got rid of the church pew seating, no more ice cream, the big China hutch at the entrance is gone so now the view all the way through there is really nice and cleaned up everything bar area fully seated, and the bar itself is clear of all paraphernalia and debris used only occasionally. (may short staffed). ok. food took way too long to come to our table of 4. ordered very basic menu food. no appetizers or cocktail. total price was $78.00 & change!!!!!! no option choice on their rickety old handheld to give the % tip I felt reflected the service. % for use of my credit card was too high. basically, never going back & a lunch for 2 adults & 2 elementary kids should not be $78.00. we had to ask for soda re-fills and at $14.00/ for 4 sodas.... skip the sodas!!! Absolutely the worst service we have ever received. They charge you higher prices than are stated on the menu, and lie and say it's on the menu. When you ask to see it, the waitress rolls her eyes and went and grabbed a menu, and when we asked her to show us where it was on the menu she brought, she said oh, it's not actually on there. And then when I gave her $40 to pay for my $22ish meal she gave me $8 in change, shorting me $10. When we asked to speak to the manager to finally correct the issue we were told that the manager was busy and would be out whenever they could. There were only 2 other tables with customers in the whole place, and two servers, and the service was still extremely slow, and most times our server was nowhere to be found for drink refills, napkins, etc. It's sad because the food we received was actually pretty good. read more

The service acted like they didn't want to be at work and complained about being tired. The restaurant was not busy at all. The food was subpar. I had been to Simmer Down in the past and it was such a great "local" place to eat with great food. My husband got the smash burger and it was NOT a smash burger. It lacked flavor and was dry. I got the Southwest egg rolls and you could tell they got them out of a frozen box and fried them, barely, it was so disappointing. The restroom was very dirty as well. Such a disappointment. We went for brunch. While the smell draws you from the parking lot the buffet style breakfast is limited. They offer a made to order omelette but the Buffett options are slim. They didn't offer bacon and we had to ask a manager to make some. The original menu has so much but during brunch we could not order from the menu. I would love to come back to try the food from the menu but Sunday Brunch is a no for me. Service was absent. We were seated and after that we were on our own. I saw a drink fountain and get my own drink in the waitress corner. The place was not busy but with limited staff it's impossible to get service if no one works there. read more

Went to breakfast there this morning - our first visit. Although I was using goovgle maps, it was just a little tricky finding them. Full disclosure: my flaky USB cable flaked out at just the wrong time, and the sign is not really prominent (and I wasn't very awake yet). So perhaps the 4 stars may be unconsciously related. Atmosphere is warm and congenial (the decor, that is). Good service. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with Hashbrowns. The chicken fried steak was good Not one of those huge ones, just a nice size Not melt in your mouth, but not overly tough. The hashbrowns were nicely cooked, crispy on top and soft in the middle. It came with a biscuit that was probably made early this morning, so it was pretty fresh. My wife had a cheese omelette which she said was good. Maybe some people might give them 5 stars (if I was in a better mood, maybe I would have as well). Everything was good: service, atmosphere, food). If you're like us - we go out for breakfast every Saturday, and we're constantly looking for a new place to eat - this place is worth a try. I think you'll like them. read more

We had not been there before the Kitchen Nightmares episode was filmed, but what we experienced was nice service, a clean and inviting interior, and good food. Whatever issues they may have had in the past, we didn't see them. Nice experience. If we lived closer we would make this a regular stop. read more

Went in on Sunday about noon with 2 couples and their infant children to try the place out. Nice comfortable atmosphere, nice decor and staff was friendly. The fair for the day was a brunch buffet with many breakfast and lunch choices. The 2 couples said the food was good and all enjoyed themselves, until heck out. I myself ordered a beverage (Dr.Pepper) but did not partake in the buffet due to oatmeal and biscuits and gravy before leaving home a few hours prior. The boys got cranky and I went outside to help get them in the car seats to go home. When the mother of the boys came out after paying and informed me they charged her my drink and a BUFFET. She had told them I didn't have anything but a drink but they charged her anyways. Being a retired Chef and having run a Sunday brunch for years in my restaurants 8 understand the reasoning due to some people taking advantage of a buffet and sharing. However, not all people do that, myself being one. This young couple with 2 children under 2 were charged for a meal that was eaten because of the "Assumption" made by the restaurant that everyone does that. Period. I'm giving the cost of the meal they were charged back to them and take the loss myself. I am both angry and disheartened at this. Angry because it was done regardless of the reality and disheartened that the Customer service and customer satisfaction that is the cornerstone of restaurants very foundation has become so jaded and judgmental. I will not set foot in this restaurant again myself and would like to just warn others that you need to be careful who you conduct business with and who you support. read more

Walking in, we had high hopes because the atmosphere seemed nice. we were seated quickly and they were about 80% full, but we sat at the table for 20 minutes before someone approached us. The waiter is a young man who clearly doesn't have serving experience and couldn't anticipate the needs of his customers. Although we had been waiting for a long time, he only took our drink order, 15 minutes later he takes an appetizer order and walks off without taking the entrée order. 15 minutes later without the appetizer, he asked for the entrée order. The food was taking a very long time so he kept coming over to talk with us. This would be the opportunity to start off with an apology and/or an update on how soon the food would be out. But he just infuriatingly asked us if we needed anything. The answer was always the same: "the food" We finally get our food after being in the restaurant for a full hour. We also noticed that tables around us had big gaps between food delivered for some, but not others. The lady behind us had her food for 20 minutes before her friend received hers. All of the food tasted like it came from a Sysco food truck where everything is premade. Nothing seemed homemade or specialized. Our appetizer was fine, but the chicken fried steak tasted like the meat had gone bad. The mac & cheese had an odd chemical taste to it. after eating, we waited forever again until he finally came to ask if we needed anything. We obviously needed the bill but this waiter could not understand the concept of predicting a customers needs, even with the most obvious clues. 15 minutes later, he brings the bill and it's one of those keypad types with three options for a tip when you use your credit card. It doesn't show the percentage, just the amount and sure enough, the smallest option is 20% on the total after tax and a 3% credit card charge. we were highly disappointed and will not be going back read more
