We went to Simmer Down Friday evening for dinner. We were there the previous week and were pretty satisfied with all of the improvements. Friday evening was just as good - or maybe even better. The service has moved to the "GREAT" level. Hunter was our server and he did a great job. I believe that with Hunter and Corbin serving, we could not ask for more. The menu has slowly started to add some of our favorites back. I greatly appreciate it! While the service and food are where I believe they should be, I do have a "problem" with the way that we were charged. There was an UNADVERTISED 3% Credit Card Fee added to the bill. We had not experienced this before, were not "warned" of it by the servers or the menu or even a sign on the door. While I understand that credit card processing does cost - you either need to warn customers (I for one won't come again knowing that it will cost me more that the advertised prices), or add the 3% into the price of the items. Most people do not carry cash anymore. We use our debit or credit card and pay it off. None of the other restaurants we go to have this UPCHARGE. I suspect that they have included it in the price of the food. Please consider adding your UPCHARGE to the foos as I don't intend on carrying cash just to come to your establishment. read more

We overheard that it was their busiest night ever, but the servers checked in with us, and we were happy to see such a lively atmosphere in this family-owned establishment. Things have changed a bit for the Simmer Down Café (thanks, Gordon Ramsey) and they are adapting well and quickly. Please give them time to adjust. Everyone is trying their best. The atmosphere here is awesome. It feels just like it serves, comfort food in a comfortable environment. The staff were friendly but honestly the service could improve a little. It took a bit to get our food but our server wasn't very friendly. They weren't rude but just seemed uninterested in serving. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and tomato soup. The tomato soup was amazing. I will admit that it was better than I was expecting. Creamy, tomatoey, with little bits of finely grated cheese mixed in. The chicken salad sandwich was disappointing however. Barely any lettuce, pain wheat bread, one tomato, the chicken salad itself was a bit runny and plain so it soaked the bottom piece of the bread. My suggestion to the chef would be to use a higher quality multi grain bread and maybe ask if you wanted the bread toasted or not. I just feel like this menu item could be so much better to, something to match the environment. Overall, I enjoyed the experience, and I'm sure their other food items are amazing. This place is a nice area. Sort of hidden and 100% relaxing. Service was good but not great. It is a laid back breakfast place so maybe that is their style. it was my first visit there. I had the French toast and bacon. Not a bad meal. Orange seemed like it was regular store bought OJ which is fine. Just a fan of the more natural stuff. Very affordable. Our Ladies Lunch group from Sun City had lunch here today. There were 14 of us. Our server was fabulous...got our orders out in good time, all right, followed up to be sure all was good. We were seated shortly after we entered the restaurant and our drinks ordered ...then we had many choices of food ... My choice of fried potatoes ,smokies,French toast, fresh fruit salad and omelette ordered as you leave the buffet line....everything delicious. Of course, I had to try the coconut cream pie from the assortment of desserts...awesome! Also, my friend enjoyed her food and loved the moist cookies! Not for me... Obviously, based on the crowd, the place has appeal to some folks. To a lot of folks. But it just didn't make the cut for my family. To be fair, I did not realize that Sunday was buffet only service. If I had realized that I would have chosen a different spot. I don't hate buffets in general, but I don't love them for most breakfasts or brunches. A few places can pull them off because of unique and plentiful offerings. But that was not the case here. The breakfast side was normal breakfast offerings. The lunch side was typical lunch offerings. Nothing unique or different. So served in buffet style only meant they cooked in mass for the sake of... Enough about the style of service, on to the food. It was ok. Most things were edible. Nothing blew me away. Nothing made me think... "I must return!" Even the kiddo said "I've had better" and she is 8. And we agree. I am willing to try it again on an evening that doesn't involve buffets. Mostly because I believe in second chances and I am curious about some menu items. But it won't be anytime soon. If you happen to be close by, and are hungry, certainly... give it a try. I have driven past here every day since moving to Georgetown three months ago and only recently noticed the sign up high, thr same basic colors as the building. I was looking for a place to eat halfway between two places and decided to pop in for breakfast. Not sure what it was like before but it felt a little 80s although I liked the chairs. The omelette station was a lovely addition to the muffins, chicken & dumplings, pasta, sausage, potatoes, French toast, and the list goes on and on and on. Coffee flowed like the Mississippi with the servers never leaving your cup dry. The bar was stocked, the seating was spacious and the family vibe would bring the grinch to tears. For a Friday night this place was DEAD. There was one large party and a few couples. I had the chicken fried steak which was fine. My husband and French toast and it looked a bit weird and not fresh. The bacon was cheap and so was the sausage. The food was not hot for him. The hash browns had char and flakes of black debris. The staff was wearing street clothes. Since the "make over" they offer much less menu and more strict on side dishes which seems silly to me. Chicken salad sandwich was ok and much different from before. Food was served all day because I would get hashbrowns for dinner instead of french fries and now only fries and they feel like they came out of a bag and they were cold. the condiments were dirty. The catchup wasn't full hard to get out, the table was dirty. It took my server forever to bring me a water and a mimosa like over 15 minutes and there was nobody there. I was wondering what the heck they were doing with themselves. Overall, I'm not satisfied with the makeover or the food or the service Since they reopened are used to enjoy coming here often as they had good food for decent price and since my last visit, I haven't craved it and probably won't be going back. We've eaten breakfast at Simmer Down for quite some time and they have been GREAT and economical. They closed for a few days to remodel and just reopened. They removed the old tables and booths. No more booths, too bad! The also changed their menu, also NOT GOOD. The prices are also higher. We use to eat there at least once a week or more. NO MORE, we'll have to find a new breakfast stop. Looking for a good brunch place, that feels like "home"? Come here! I looked up Sunday Brunch places here on Yelp, and was looking for a place that didn't just have like 5 options. This place brought me back to what I think of as "brunch", before COVID! Make sure to map this place, as you will miss it on Williams Drive. My husband and I had not been out this far on Williams, and missed it, with directions..LOL, and had to turn around. We got there right at 9am, as they opened for Sunday Brunch. We thought there would be a line, but nope, we got in, and was only like 3 other couples waiting. But, as we enjoyed our brunch, that changed, people came in, in droves! It is very small inside, and our table kind of backed into the line for the buffet. Make sure you know you table number before you go up, if you want an omelet. The nice gentleman makin the omelets is first station you hit, and he has 4 burners going. He will ask you, your table number as he marks it down with what omelet you want. Then, you take a plate and continue down the buffet line. All have the nice warmers under them, keeping everything hot! Make sure to get the sliced potatoes and onions! They have sausages, link and patties (did not see any bacon). They had small little chicken tender type thing, and thought it was gravy next to it, but oh no,,something better...something I have never seen at ANY buffet (lunch or breakfast type), it was Chicken and Dumplings! OMG..grab a bowl next to it, and GET IT! BIG pieces of chicken with nice size dumplings! I tried their "Mac and cheese", and it more mac, and not a lot of cheese. They had French toast pieces, and at the end, some cantelope and small salad. We found out, but seeing other people, besides drinks you order from the server, if you want, a pancake, biscuits and gravy, and/or toast, you order that from them as well, and they will bring it out to you . We had a GREAT server names Ciara! She also was the sat us down, and she was always checking on us to make sure we needed anything! Now, if you are looking for a looong buffet, this is not it. Nice quite place that is not too busy. Buffet style on the weekends in the morning and price is solid. That being said we sat there for over 10 minutes without our server coming up to us at all. We got up got food and had still yet to see a server come. We had to request for our server to get drinks and so 20 minutes later we have drinks. My coffee cup had lipstick on it so I asked for a to go cup of coffee because it's clear she did not even look to see if the cup she was given me was dirty. We were there over an hour and saw our server twice. Nichole needs to be more attentive with her guest because her other tables were having to get other servers to help find her so they could cash out. Food is okay and smart move on the buffet. Went there to try a new breakfast place and it as sat down and our waitress was Jennifer. She was polite, professional and knowledgeable of everything that we asked. I also like this place because it serves breakfast all day. The Service Desk as impeccable and the food was extremely delicious. It all came out hot including the toast and biscuits. There was a variety of jelly and butter available along with hot sauce on request. The orange juice is beyond great as it's made fresh and the coffee is delicious with cream various creams available at the table. The environment was totally awesome and even though this might sound mean but there were no screaming kids and mostly older people my age and older and it was extremely welcoming! I've since been back three other times when I have an appointment in Georgetown and we've always asked for Jennifer. It is my new place to go have excellent breakfast or lunch as my daughter ordered. Did I mention the environment was so very peaceful and everyone that included the other customers were extremely friendly. I forgot to mention that they extend a military, police and first responders discount. Thank you Jennifer and thank you to the cooks in the back for their service and excellent food preparation!
