I had tried to go to Rikas Empanadas next door but was told the kitchen was closed. More on that later. Went next door to Silver Spoon. Saw grilled Reuben sandwich on the menu - wow! Sounded great. Since onion rings were $7.99 and fries were included with my Reuben I asked to substitute onion rings. For $3.00 more, I scored - until I got the sandwich. It looked beautiful and the onion rings were great. The server brought me ranch dressing for them - perfect. I bit into the sándwich. Huge piece of fat. OK, it's pastrami. That has fat. Took another bite - the meat was so tough I couldn't chew it. Flavor was good (and I was REALLY hungry), so I took another bite - fat and tough again. I ended up with a gross stack of unchewable pastrami that should have gone down with the bread and sauerkraut. I told the server and asked if they could do anything about it. I wasn't looking for a free meal but it seemed like half off the sandwich (since the other half was inedible) was fair. She came back and gave me 10% off. Picture (sorry, it's gross but seriously?) I understand this isn't a Jewish deli but shoe leather would have been a better choice than the meat they served. read more

This place is a gem. My wife and I are trying all the spots in town since we moved here in May. We are empresses with how friendly and prompt the service is. We were greeted at the door by the owner Ken, who seated us right away, and after that we had 3 servers come up to us and ask if we have been taken care of. The place is also very clean and tidy. When we asked if they had Champagne and they replied yes, we knew we found our breakfast spot. The food is fantastic and the people are even better. Try this spot and you won't be disappointed. When I leave LA to return home to Las Vegas, I like to leave DTLA early and have breakfast in one of the foothill communities where there are many one of a kind mom and pop diners at which to stop. This time it was the Silver Spoon. I seated myself and a server came over with the menu and asked if I wanted coffee. She brought the coffee and I was ready to order. I got the spinach corned beef skillet which is new for me because I generally end up getting an omelette. The skillet come with two eggs any way and toast or hash browns. I opted for rye toast. The skillet was brought in a very timely manner and it was topped with my two over easy eggs. The skillet was good. The pieces of corned beef were just the right size although it was a little heavy on the potato side. My coffee was refilled without the need to ask. Service was very friendly and I was on my way after about a half hour stop for breakfast. read more

My wife wasn't feeling well around Thanksgiving so we ended up staying home instead of our usual family Thanksgiving routine full of delicious food. She however was feeling a bit down and was craving a delicious Turkey Dinner. After searching around on Yelp for a diner that had something comparable, I found they had this on their menu! I ordered a cobb salad and my wife had the Turkey Dinner. The portions are insanely generous! We also ordered the Fried Zucchini and it was delicious also. My wife really enjoyed her Turkey Dinner and it hit the spot. I tried some also and it was great. The salad had quality ingredients and was very satisfying also. The sauce was extremely delicious on a generous portion of tortilla chips smuthored with cheese and two perfectly cooked eggs on top. This restaurant has many more delicious food items that are "FIRE" on their menu. Outstanding service with a variety of food choices at great prices that are worth every bite. All were delicious! Hits the spot! The portions were so big, we both ended up taking two big boxes of leftovers home. They have a wide selection of any breakfast food you could want and everything is very fairly priced. Attentive service too! I have eaten at this restaurant for years NEVER AGAIN! A group of 32 attended lunch yesterday. Our waitress was fantastic but this man came at the end of the meal. He yelled at the waitress about the tickets and trying to take over collecting tickets and money. He made it more confusing and stressing everyone out. I found out he was the new owner. I spoke to him and he wouldn't listen. I told him he was the rudest, meanest owner I had ever run into. Many of our people also complained to him and he kept spouting off about all these tickets HE was stuck dealing with. We all told him we would never return to this place again. He is an awful person! We all made sure our waitress was very well tipped and gave her our condolences for having to work for such a JERK! The food is good but the owner is nasty! read more

I have often wished that there was a New York style diner here in Glendora where the food was good and the service great and the price reasonable--kind of like the place the gang from Seinfeld frequented. I guess the Silver Spoon was so obviously similar that I just didn't see it, because I have been here before and never really realized how great it is. Actually, I think the main reason is that I typically go in to this place when I am visiting someone at the hospital across the street, and so I am perhaps in a somber mood when I am there. But I went in there today after I had a doctor's visit nearby and I spent some time looking around. Some observations: This place is meticulously clean. No grease or grime on the ketchup bottle or salt and pepper shakers. The table and booths are perfectly clean--the place was cleaner than the medical offices I had just visited. Everything is meticulously maintained. The service is prompt. My omelette arrived five minutes after I ordered it. The menu is expansive--they have just about everything you could possibly want in diner-type food. Normally I don't like diner coffee because it is too weak; the coffee here is really good and strong. The food itself has always been great on the half dozen or so visits I've had here. I recall their sirloin steak is fantastic and a bargain at the price. Today I had a cheese, avacado, bacon, tomato omelette with hash browns and sourdough--for ten bucks. It was was as good as it gets. The waitresses are always there for you when you need them, and otherwise they just come by to top off your coffee. They are really nice and unobtrusive. I texted by daughter while I was there and I told her we needed to start making Silver Spoon our default place when we just need something fast, good, and reliable. This place is a real Glendora treasure and I am resolved to eat here more often, even when I don't have business at the nearby medical facilites. read more

I actually live in Korea, but I came to America for a quick vacay, and I was craving some good ol' American breakfast. I Yelped a couple places, and Silver Spoon popped up... and I'm glad it did. It was exactly what I had been craving. I was helped as soon as I walked in. The waitress I had was extremely helpful, and she even made some suggestions to help me decide. I decided to go with the 1, 2, 3 (1 egg, 2 bacon strips, and 3 pancakes). It was incredibly delicious. My 1 sunny-side-up-egg was perfectly sunny, my 2 bacon strips were perfectly crispy, and my 3 pancakes were perfectly fluffy. I also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. It was heavenly. The biscuits melted in my mouth, and the gravy was quite flavorful. As for the service... like the food, I was not disappointed. The servers saw to it that my delectable hot coffee never saw the bottom of the cup. The coffee was consistently fresh, which is something I really appreciate.
