Was getting my dog groomed down the street and decided to go to the Glendora Public Market. Since the Public Market is huge, I didn't know what to eat. I was about to eat tacos but saw the long line for this place then got curious. Food: Incredible! I got the Pastrami Banh Mi and I never had anything like it. I feel like the OG toppings for the Banh Mi paired really well with the pastrami. It was also pretty packed. I only ate half and gave the other half to my partner. I also tried the calamansi lemonade and loved how it tasted refreshing! Service: Awesome. This is in a food hall, so be prepared for that. It's open and airy and the noise level is above average at times. Tom's Famous Pastrami $18.99 - they asked if I wanted a half pound or a full pound. I can't imagine eating an entire pound. I wonder if they charge more, though? I didn't ask! It's not thinly-sliced pastrami, btw, if you're expecting something like Jolly Jug or the Hat. To make it a combo, it was another $5.99 for two fried spring rolls, sweet and spicy dipping sauce, and a canned soda. I went back for breakfast and tried their Good Morning Sando $8.50 and a Tom's Viet Coffee for $5.49 Everything was pretty substantial and filling. I don't think the value is there for the prices, because there are other establishments where inflation creep brought the PoP (Price of Pastrami) to $10, but ~$20 is getting wild. Wow this sandwich does not disappoint. Came here on Saturday and ordered the lb pastrami sandwich. She cut the thick meaty slices and filled up a small metal bowl. Then she topped it with carrots, cilantro, cucumber and all the meat in the bowl. Absolutely worth 30 will be getting it again. The customer service is amazing. They are fast, friendly and courteous. I don't usually chase viral foods but if you put banh mi and pastrami together, you got me! Gold Banh is located within the Glendora Public Market and has ample parking available in the lot. There are some seats inside but I came here to grab a few banh mi to-go. I went closer to 5:00 PM and was lucky to see a small line at the time. For the pastrami banh mi, I added garlic butter (extra - $2), the "gold standard" for the toppings, and half pound. Since I was sharing, I decided to get a crispy pork belly banh mi with garlic butter and gold standard as well. The first thing I noticed right away was that both banh mi were HUGE. There was no question that the portion was shareable. When it came to the pastrami, this was honestly really good. In comparison, the pork belly was slightly underwhelming. It wasn't really that crispy versus other places that I've tried. Overall, if I had the craving, I think the Pastrami banh mi is worth revisiting. Overhyped to be honest. Their baguette rolls used for the Banh Mi Sandwiches are crisp yet soft. Their green cilantro-tasting sauce is perfect for adding onto the sandwiches. I think each sandwich or the ones I've tried (The Basic, Grilled Chicken) need more veggies in them stat. Also, I recently tried the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi and it had l fatty edges on each piece of grilled chicken. Service: The wait time can be long as they are currently training their employees. You can be waiting anywhere from 30 mins to 1hr+ but luckily I only waited 45 minutes. I went on a Sunday around 2:45 PM. If you're impatient and hungry then I would say this place is not for you. Tom's Famous Pastrami: I got the pastrami bahn mi on original bread. You can choose between 1/2 lb or 1 lb of pastrami. You can have your bread as it is or you can add garlic butter for extra. They recommend sauces/toppings with it which they call the "Gold Standard." It comes with garlic aioli, pate, mustard, mustard seeds, cilantro, pickled carrots and daikon and pickled onions. If not feel free to choose your own toppings. I decided to get the "Gold Standard" because the sandwich wizards know the best and if they didn't why would they recommend it. Honestly the sandwich looked so good, but I expected more. I went in open minded because it's not a traditional bahn mi place, but a fusion. However, I started to get sus when I saw the "Gold Standard" they recommend to get with the sandwich. The recommended toppings came with two doses of mustard condiments and two pickled items. I thought it was a bit crazy for one single sandwich. Nevertheless I did not question their master making sandwich skills and went with what they recommended. Because who am I to question a sandwich master. Sadly future me would be disappointed. I ate the bahn mi and was fairly disappointed. The crazy double mustard and double pickled items messed me up and most of all it messed up all the flavor. I could only taste mustard and pickled juices between two crispy slices of baguette bread. My mouth was confused. I left the place sad and smelling sour. I got to give it to them though the items on their own were great. The meat was tender and juicy, but needed a bit more salt to be honest. Not my kind of bahn mi sandwich, but to each their own. Overall: After trying out the sandwich, I would say this is not my kind of place. I paid $20+ to try the sandwich once and that's good enough for me.
