The ambiance is what you'd expect of a Diner comfortable booths etc. Service was a bit lacking - the burgers come with either fries or choice of veggie from veggie menu. I chose sweet potato fries from the veggie menu. The order came with regular fries. After informing the server that the order was wrong they took the fries and brought back a plate of about 15 sweet potato fries, the portion was much smaller than the regular fries portion. Really tasty breakfast food (and the coffee was good too!). I don't think you come to Silver Diner for something unique - you come for how consistent and reliable it is. Corned beef hash -my stepdad said really good Eggs with sausage and bread - perfectly cooked eggs and the white toast was definitely a splurge but with it. I don't love the sausages here so I probably would just get bacon next time. Other than that, everything was perfect. I would recommend this place before a mall shopping trip! My meat eater friend noticed how much the menu has evolved on the healthier & Vegan/Veggie offerings. Let me get to the end before the beginning! This place was so good we came back the next day! It was an easy walk from our hotel but if u want to drive, they have plenty of parking. We were seated immediately the first time (yesterday). Today there was about a15-20 minute wait. The restaurant has the feel of a regular dinner but the food has an upscale twist. They have more selection, food seems to be healthier (?), and they stay open pretty late. Silver Diner is also great for groups, and their prowess really shows when you can order an array of appetizers and entrees for the entire table to try. Their burger isn't as juicy as you probably want it, and lacks a lot of flavor, but it's passable. The fried shrimp has a really tangy salsa that's super exciting to eat. The shrimp itself is average. As for the sweets, they were great. I don't think I've gotten the opportunity to eat at a diner since I went vegan. Most diners are animal-product centered with little to no vegan options, so this place was a breath of fresh air! I ordered the beyond meatballs "mac" n cheese. To be honest, I was a little hesitant to order it; I didn't know what to expect because the item description said it didn't have actual pasta on it. I'm happy to say that it was super tasty, though! It had a surprising depth of flavor and I happily ate every bite on my plate. I also really enjoyed the avocado toast I got as an app. The rest of the people in my party ordered non-vegan options and enjoyed their food as well. My girlfriend liked the mofongo burger, and one person in my party who ordered liver was not only happy that they had liver as an option, but was impressed that they cooked it properly. Food was absolutely amazing we both ended up getting the same thing except with her chicken and waffles she got French toast. In addition to the chicken being fried to perfection the waffles were not hard but soft and fluffy. I also noticed that inside of the waffle there was little pecans. My husband and I have had breakfast here at least three times now. We have had a good experience during each visit so far. The food is consistent, delicious and fresh. I would classify Silver Diner as a good family restaurant where kids are welcome. There was a line out the door on our last visit (probably because power was out in McLean) but the line moved quickly so don't let a line deter you. We were very thankful Silver Diner had power and was open! My favorite breakfast dish is the country scrambler. You can't go wrong with a delicious gravy on everything. I got a hot chocolate and a grilled cheese and both were very good. I like the shoe string French fries too. Whatever seasoning is on them makes them very tasty. Staff is pretty friendly but they check in on you a lot until you're done eating then they leave you alone waiting for a chance to ask for the check. My jukebox at my table didn't work but it was still fun to listen to what other people played on theirs. My silverware had a few pieces of caked on food which was a turn off though. read more
