From the moment you walk in, you can tell the ownership takes real pride in presentation, cleanliness, and customer service. The food portions are beyond generous, and the prices honestly shocked me in the best way possible. On Tuesday, I had their breakfast platter -- two eggs, bologna, bacon, light rice, toast, and coffee -- all for just $15. The cook did a phenomenal job, everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and full of flavor. It was so good I came back the very next day! On Wednesday, I ordered a two-egg sandwich with bacon on an everything bagel with toast. Once again, they did not disappoint. If you're ever in the Fairfax area and want an incredible breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this is the place to go. Expect great food, more than enough to take home, and prices that will make you smile. This place is a great affordable and delicious option if your in merrifield and need a quick bite. The food comes out quick and it is so good. The service is amazing as well! 1/17/23 Second time here and there will be more. I was introduced to this restaurant last Saturday on January 7th. The first thing I ended up trying were the delicious Cheese Danishes. Something I loved eating as a kid. I noticed on the first experience the staff spoken Spanish and some English. The owner spoke English and possibly a few other languages too. I got the idea this is the restaurant of choice for a lot of Contractors coming or going to working. For years I years I have driven by this shop and I always thought it wasn't busy, because it looked empty. I also never saw anyone go inside the building when I drove by, However, looks can be deceiving. I am glad I was wrong about this place. I enjoyed speaking Spanish, but I definitely have a ways to go on my Spanish. As of right now, the ladies are too much for me as far as speaking their native language. I ordered the hotcakes with bacon and hotcakes with eggs for my wife. I found the food delicious. I also bought two Cheese Danishes and two Cherry Danishes. The bulgogi hero goes super hard! They lightly toast the bread and dress it ever so lightly with a spicy aioli. It even tastes good when it's not piping hot. Went and got a steak and cheese with fries. I would say that the Steak and cheese was not terrible. The bread was nice but for 12 dollars plus it was a small sammich. There wasn't a lot of meat at all. The steak was good enough but needed a lot more for 12 bucks. It desperately needed some crushed red peppers. Why places don't have crush red doesn't make sense. The fries were pretty good. Again, portion was small. For 16.00 plus it wasn't worth it and I doubt I would go back. AL'S steakhouse in Alexandria Va is wildly better. The most delicious and packed Italian cold cut in the area! Compared to Jimmy Johns right around the corner, the subs here are nearly 3x the size and flavor. I've only tried the Italian cold cut sub, fries, onion rings and cheese danish here but this place has been so good that my boyfriend and I stop by almost weekly! The sub itself has 3+ layers of meat, cheese, lettuce, onions, and a delish pepper relish. I've even saved half my sub overnight and the bread did not get so soggy since it was really good quality and thick. Onion rings were the really good thick cut, crispy type but I would say the price is a bit steep. Def would recommend tho! Somehow the ladies cook the fries to perfection where it's lightly crispy on the oustide and fluffy potato-y on the inside. Would highly recommend a hot sauce and ketchup mix to dip in. The ambience of the restaurant is almost like an old-timey diner with a few booths spotted throughout. Really easy to romanticize a solo midday lunch here. Only issue for some people would be the hours of operation but as long as you stop by before 2 during the workday, you'll have a delish lunch and most likely leftovers! read more

Unexpected little shop in Merrifield run by Korean ladies. We used to live in the Halstead and walked by it often but never came in because it is mainly a breakfast and lunch place. It is actually somewhat roomy inside with several tables. There is a good basic breakfast. There are also snacks and drinks that they sell. The Sub Stop is a local staple in Merrifield. And, I love it, except for one thing: the hours. The hours of this place are mostly impossible. Even as a teacher, they are often closed before I am off work, which is crazy. Now that we got that out of the way, everything else about the Sub Stop is awesome. I like it because breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and other places in the immediate area are either fast food (like mcdonalds, dunkin donuts) or too upscale/sit down (silver diner, teds bulletin, ihop clones). In terms of their breakfast food, you can get a typical but real sandwich, cooked fresh. A bacon egg cheese sandwich on rye is $3.59. There are platter options as well that are served cafeteria-style. The lunch sandwiches hover around $7. The menu is 100% clear: they have rye, kaiser rolls, sub rolls, croissant, wheat and maybe another option. I saw biscuits there but I think they are for platters only. The layout uses alot of space for chips and bottled drinks. They have cigarettes and gum there if that is your thing. There are some tables also if you wish to sit down for a few minutes. I initially started writing this review because it is the weekend and I do not know their hours today. I just grabbed breakfast there and will attach a pic of the hours. I bet if they revamped the place a little to appeal to the halstead square types they might get more business. Alternatively, they can push in the direction of becoming more of a minimart like 7-11/CVS since I don't think halstead or dunn loring have a place like that (nevermind, I guess harris teeter is right there). Minimally, I think they should at least get a new sign. I could easily see people living next door and never knowing that it is there. Nice casual sub shop with a great, hearty veggie sandwich! It's nothing fancy but it is made with crisp, fresh ingredients, and though it's stacked tall it's not so overstuffed it's falling apart. It's good to have a non-chain option in the not-yet-gentrified block between Mosaic and the Dunn Loring metro. My only qualm is that like some other reviewers mentioned, they keep banker hours here. Sub Stop is clearly catering to the breakfast and lunch crowds, so hopefully that treats them well, but I wish I could patronize them more. Didn't think I'd return but Never say Never right. This place happens to be located right next door to the garage I take my car to. Bought a coffee, there are 2 on the burner and not labeled as decaf or regular. Coffee wasn't as hot as I like it but needed a cup of Joe. They also have more of a creamer selection than I had remembered. It's the container with pump, I chose the hazelnut. I also ordered egg n cheese on whole wheat bread well toasted. The person who took my order didn't include cheese originally but when I asked where it was the cook held up a single piece if it and added it to my sandwich. I have been coming to Sub Stop off and on over the last 5 years and will say as far as your typical deli shop goes, it is in my top 3 for the Merrifield area. The place is a deli counter, go up, order, pay, wait to be called. They have a small buffet of food that I cannot comment on because I am a sandwich guy and would never dream of ordering anything but. There is also an assortment of chips, candy, baked goods (the blondie bar is yummy) and fruit to compliment the meal. Beverages are fountain (coke) soda, coffee and mix of bottled items including tea and energy drinks. There is always a special of the day which includes a particular hot sub, fries and drink for $9. My favorite go-to is the California Chicken. Chicken breast with provolone cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mayo and sprouts stuffed inside a wheat pita. It typically comes on a sub roll which is good too, but I like the pita since you taste more of the food content and less bread. If youre in the area, come by for a quick lunch, bring your coworkers.
