I ordered the Giant Philly Cheesesteak and a Mini Club Supreme. For the Philly Cheesesteak, I went with provolone cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, lettuce, mayonnaise, and half with jalapeños. The staff was so kind as to wrap the sub separately, one with jalapeños and one without. As for the Club Supreme, I got it "Mike's Way" -- that's with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, oil, vinegar, oregano, salt, plus mayonnaise and a crispy strip of bacon. The Philly Cheesesteak was perfect, nice and warm, super delicious. Unfortunately, the Club Supreme didn't taste as great this time, though it's usually my go-to. The service was friendly and quick. There's a 2-hour free parking lot across the street in the Harris Teeter garage, or you might get lucky with street parking right out front. read more

This is a nice location. My recommendation is do your sub Mike's Way. The quality of meats here smokes Subways. Also they give you a proper amount, which is a decent thing. Cheeses and vegetables are also quite fresh. I like that bacon on top! This location is clean and organized. The staff are very helpful. Efficiency is always on display. You will pay more here, but that does mean you'll get better than the competitor mentioned. As for the bread it's decent, although I wish they'd get rid of the tipping thing at the register. Ordered a sub today and made it VERY clear that I do NOT like fresh tomatoes on my sandwich. Asked for ketchup instead. They said fine. Got home . . . found what you see in the photo. No ketchup, and what's worse three slices of tomato that I had to remove myself. I could cut them some slack if they were busy, but I was literally the only customer they had. If they botch a lot of sandwiches the way they botched mine, I'm not surprised they have no customers. I am only giving this place four stars for their food. I guess this place just recently open and they need to work on their employees knowledge on how to make the sandwiches and what goes in them. My husband and I both got different subs and my bacon was on his sub along with my extra pickles, jalapeños and banana peppers. Now we weren't completely paying attention while they were making the subs so I guess it wasn't their fault. However it was annoying to deconstruct part of our sandwich so we could have the right ones. Please note the inside is completely new and looks pristine. I don't know what it is, I just really like sandwiches. There is just something satisfyingly simple about it--and let's not forget the opportunity to eat a bunch of carbs and cheese. As a sandwich fanatic, it's no surprise I find myself at Jersey Mike's from time to time. But let's address the elephant in the room: This location is just a 5 minute walk from one of my other favorite sandwich chains, a Jimmy Johns. I often have to debate with myself on which one I want, so to help you all make your decisions, let's do a quick rundown between the two locations: At Jersey Mike's, I really like the big sub roll, and am a fan of the verrrrrrry thinly sliced tomato and onion and the shredded lettuce. Adding peppers, vinegar, and salt and oregano makes for a simple, tangy, crunchy, chewy sandwich. They keep the oil and vinegar separate here so you can cut out the oil, not an option JJ's has. But the main downside is the service here. I've personally had pretty uneven experiences: Sometimes they seem pretty quick, other times it seems to take eons for a single sandwich when I'm the only customer. Some employees are really friendly and helpful, others seem annoyed by your presence (if they even come out from the back of the kitchen). They also don't have that many toppings, so when you order a veggie sandwich, you can't do as much to add some variety. Jimmy John's makes a damn good sandwich. Their bread is not as good as Mike's, but I still like it. They have more topping options--I usually customize a #6 veggie. But most of all JJ's is known for their quick and accurate service. 30 seconds after ordering it, you have exactly what you wanted, with every add on, substitution, and deletion. 9 times out of 10, I think Jimmy John's takes it for me. Consistent, quick, efficient, and accurate service goes a long way, even when what I am craving is a Jersey style sub drowning in vinegar. read more

I don't know why this place isn't getting more love - very good sandwiches and service here. The price is maybe a little higher than competitors like Subway and Jimmy John's, but I do think that you get a better sandwich here. They offer a number of standard cold subs, plus a few hot items like cheesesteaks. The turkey, Italian, roast beef, and "Jersey Shore Favorite" are all great options. If you get them "Mike's Way," with oil and vinegar, lettuce, tomato, and onion, they really are great. The cheesesteaks are also nice, though they don't travel well. I will say that you should avoid, at all costs, the chicken parmesan sandwich, which is notably terrible. They offer a few chips as well - mostly Frito-Lay products. The service is pretty fast and friendly, though it may take 10 minutes or so if there's a line. Be aware that parking is a little bit odd here - maybe that is factoring into the reviews. The Dunn-Loring Metro "Kiss and Ride" is right around the corner from here (by the Starbucks), but you can't park there. It's for Metro pickups and drop-offs only. Likewise, across Avenir Place is another lot (by the Harris Teeter) that is specifically designated for the grocery store. You can't park there either, at risk of a tow (according to some very assertive signs). So the right lot is actually by the corner of Prosperity Ave and Halstead Ln (by the District Taco). You get two free hours of parking, even when the gates are down, and if you turn right and park all the way at the end of the garage, it's a pretty short walk up the stairs and over to Jersey Mike's. But, it is a little counter-intuitive the first time that you do it. The location is much better for foot traffic. read more

I could not be more disappointed with this Jersey Mike's location. I ordered a large lunch for a company meeting via bitesquad.com. We ordered a sub in a tub (essentially the sub of your choice on a salad), two different cheesesteaks, a buffalo chicken sandwich, a turkey mini-sub, 4 bags of chips, and 6 cookies. When we got the meal, *everything* was wrong. They put mayo on the salad. The instructions specifically said NO MAYO so as to avoid this from happening. At what does the teenager making the salad, about to slather mayo on it, think to themselves, 'Hmm, mayo on a salad. That's pretty odd...maybe I should double check the ticket.' Apparently they never hit that point, because here's the salad, covered in mayo. The forgot every single bag of chips and all the cookies. The small mini-sub wasn't heated, when we requested it to be. Both cheesesteakes had ingredients added that weren't requested and were smothered in mayo, both chipotle and regular (barf! What is it with this place and mayo?) and the buffalo chicken sandwich was doused in buffalo sauce, covering the whole wrapper, making the bread soggy. I contacted bitesquad, who contacted the restaurant. After keeping the representative on hold for a while, Jersey Mike's said they would remake the salad, deliver the chips and cookies, but refused to remake the other sandwiches as they were 'made to order'. That, is the biggest load of bull ever. What we have here is a location run by incompetent people who couldn't care less if what they're making is correct, or even good. They want to show up to work, make what they wanna make, collect a paycheck, and go home. I strongly advise AGAINST visiting this restaurant any time soon, until they have a better manager and some line employees who put a little care and concentration into what they're preparing. read more

The last three times I've visited it took forever to get a sandwich made. The crew could care less about being there and it shows. Everything gets made wrong and they'll argue with you about it. Wow. I've eaten at a lot of crappy fast food joints, but this place was pretty horrible. The staff of this place were astoundingly clueless, and I watched as they screwed up multiple orders. My husband ordered a grilled veggie wrap, and I watched as the gal behind the counter started putting everything together....without the grilled veggies. Which hadn't even been put on the grill. I brought this to her attention and she stared at me like a deer caught in headlights. It took a good deal of prodding to get them to actually make the sandwich. Poor guy 3 people ahead of us was still waiting for his Chicken Parm by the time we left. The manager came in to do something about the situation, but seemed to disappear again pretty quickly. Ordered a big kahuna chicken philly sub via BiteSquad service to get it delivered to my office. At first, we were all excited that the sub was HUGE. Too bad it was gross. We ordered it the way "big Mike" recommends which unknowingly meant loaded with extra jalapenos and drowning in chipotle mayo. It was so hot I had to dissect the sandwich entirely, it was too hot to eat and drowning in so much spicy mayo I threw most of it away. Also, the sub that arrived was steak instead of a chicken. I called up Jersey Mikes directly to see what they could do about it and the guy was rude and just kept insisting "he made them himself" I dont care who made it, they should do what they can to make it right when they mess up an order. I attempted to order but fate intervened to stop me from making a terrible mistake. I ordered a turkey wrap and before I could tell the guy what toppings I wanted, he loaded it with raw onions. I cannot eat onions as my body does not digest them well, so he could not just take them off. I was offered another wrap, which I accepted. Catering: Subs by the Box from the Avenir Pl. location has been amazing! I have used this location and delivery 11 times in the past 3 months for local high school team meals. Veronica has been amazing with each order. I'd call in the order, she'd patiently review, and make changes when the boys requested more of one or the other sub. She also arranged for and was prompt with each delivery. The boys loved the subs (especially the Club Sub) and it helped to fuel them up for their game later that day. I stopped at this Jersey Mike's the other night. The reviews already posted on Yelp convinced me it would be good. They were wrong. It was not good. It was great! The restaurant was spotless, and I was given a cheerful greeting when I walked up to the counter. That, plus the quality/quantity/taste/value of the food made me think of Mario's in Arlington except for the spotless and cheerfulness parts. There is an extensive menu with lots of tempting options. However, my choice was an easy one. Just after the description for their Chipotle (no relation, thank goodness) Cheese Steak it said, "Wow! You gotta have one!" It sounded like good advice, and that's what I ordered. The only "mistake" I made was to order a Large. Apparently, at this place, a Regular sized sub is large by any normal standards and a Large is something you might see Fred Flintstone ordering. Half the sandwich served as my dinner, and the other half was a welcome but unnecessary late night snack. For me, a 5-star rating means I will return frequently and enthusiastically recommend it to others. I'll probably order the same sandwich for my next couple visits because it was *that* good. Came in on a Friday night around 8:15PM to every employee cussing, complaining about customers wanting extra ingredients on their subs, etc. We stood at the counter for about 3 minutes and were totally ignored by all 3 employees currently working at the time. We left without being spoken to or even looked at. 2 employees were throwing their dirty gloves across the kitchen area and acting in such a negative destructive manner.
