Hands down, one of the best burgers I've ever had. The burgers here are literally everything a good burger should be: Thick, juicy, a little bit messy and down right DELICIOUS. I ordered the lunch special: build your own burger (I did a cheddar cheese burger, cooked medium, lettuce, tomato, red and grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and AI), fries and a drink. The portion of fries was small and they were warm but not hot and fresh. For my drink, I mixed the strawberry watermelon drink with the blackberry lemonade. Delicious, refreshing, and not too sweet. This is one of the best burgers in the area. I have been here a number of times now and they consistently put out an amazing product. Whether you choose to have it on a bun (which is soft and tasty) or in a salad bowl, it's a winner every time. They also offer several bundles now (pairing fries and a drink) which makes the pricing a pretty good deal. I think there is room to make the experience even better by adding fresh cut fries. A nice place to eat if you are near Wolf Trap for an event. I went here as a reasonable place to eat before a Wolf Trap concert. When we arrived, it was mostly empty. Ordering at the kiosk was cumbersome, but the cashier took our order at the counter. The food came out very fresh and they use real chicken here. The fries were also good. I ate here with my mom and daughter after walking through the lights at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. There was only one other table around 7:30 when we arrived. You can order at the counter or there is a self-serve order kiosk. My daughter had a kids meal cheeseburger. I had the 9 year anniversary burger-bacon, mustard aioli, lettuce, tomato, 2-year aged cheddar, cooked medium. I got the combo with fries and a soft drink. I loved the blueberry soda-first time trying it! The fries were ok, probably would have liked the Parmesan truffle fries more. My burger was spot on -cooked medium-and delicious! Big Buns was a delicious quick service restaurant that I'd love to visit again. The service here was pretty quick as you order at the counter and then they bring the food to your table, and the inside is your typical fast foodish burger place. The food was incredible though. The Fricken Good Chicken Sandwich was delicious, big, and definitely worth it for $13. The fries were also really solid and I liked the Maine Root drink options at the drink machine rather than the typical Coke and Pepsi options. Came here for lunch, and while I really wanted to like this place, I just wasn't impressed with the sandwich I got. I knew it came with onions, but I wasn't expecting it to be the main ingredient. While the beef did taste good, it felt like it was competing with all the onions inside which had strong flavor- even taking some out didn't do the trick. All the options looked good, but I 'settled' on the Anniversary burger (with a side of Cajun fries). As with all great burgers, it's a race to devour it before the structural integrity of the bun collapses. I easily could have used a fork...but as a hamburger purist, I refuse to use such utensils in these circumstances. Unfortunately, my to-go order was missing items (kitchen appeared pretty swamped and behind schedule); I called the store after arriving home and was promised a refund on my credit card "within the next day or so". A week passes and no refund. I call the store again and am told not to worry, it'll get corrected soon. I wait. Another week passes and still no refund. I call the store again. The manager says he'll take care of it "tonight or tomorrow". Another call -- I'm told to wait a bit longer and "check my statement". You guessed it, still no refund. Surely correcting fulfillment mistakes (via refund or credit or something else) should be more straightforward than this?! I can't speak to other locations, but avoid Vienna. DAMN, how did I happen to overlook this place as a burger and fries and fried chicken sandwich shop for alllllll these years?! SO GOOD. I'm going to call this a fast food+ option because clearly it's beyond McD's and Burger King but not as pricey as a sit-down full service burger joint. This place is "just right" - order at the counter, go grab a seat and they'll bring the food out to your table when it's ready. Drinks are self-serve - Main Root colas and fresh fruit juices. They also have shakes. And they serve beer, wine and boozy shakes and slushies/crushies too! This location which is in downtown(ish) Vienna off Maple is a bit tucked away in a shopping center (so parking is plentiful and no issue) and though it had a steady stream of customers coming in (we were there for a late lunch on a weekday), the place was never too busy or too crowded. Plenty of inside seating including counter seating (there's also some outside seating when weather permits). Service is EXCELLENT and considering it isn't full-service, the staff is attentive and responsive. They bus tables immediately and keep the place tidy and clean. The wait for food after you've ordered is not excessive especially knowing everything is freshly made to order and comes out piping hot off the grill. So worth the wait. Everyone in our party of 5 had a burger/fries/drink combo. The beef patties were big and juicy, the burgers come on brioche buns that were soft and fresh and not oversized or overly bread-y. I had BB's NoVA take on the Nashville Hot fried chicken sandwich called The Shirlington Hot. KILLER GOOD. The chicken was big, crispy coated just so and juicy inside. It truly does have a bit of a kick to it so if you're at all skittish about heat and spicy, beware. The creamy cole slaw was just enough and not too messy to be able to pick up the sandwich with your hands and the brioche bun you can tell is freshly made and delish. I love that this burger place has burgers AND chicken sandwiches. They also have burger bowls if you want healthier options I guess (?) but, really, if you're going to have a burger, gotta go traditional and all the way with a bun! This will now become my go-to option when I'm hankerin' for a fast food(ish) fresh, made-to-order, hot and juicy burger meal where I can sit down and enjoy my meal (with or without company) in a casual, trendy, clean environment where I don't have to shell out big bucks for a full-service sit down experience. I've been meaning to post my review of Big Buns for a while, went there today, so here's my review. I ordered a burger with American cheese and ketchup, which is my go to burger for tasting the burger without all the noise of other toppings. I also got cheese fries, my party also ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a second burger with egg and all the toppings. My go to test burger, was average. The bun a very good bun to accompany a burger, so great start. The burger itself was under done for how I ordered, which was a little disappointing, but that happens. For a $10 burger, pricey for a fast casual burger joint, was not above average as the price would warrant. A solid 3 star burger. The fried chicken sandwich, we all took a bite of, was definitely disappointing. Not much flavor compared to my top chicken sandwich go to restaurants. I ordered cheese fries, which lets me review both the fry and the upgrade to cheese fries. Again, the fry was a little under done so it was not soft in the middle like I like. The flavor of the cheese was very good though, so that was good! We also got a milky way shake, which was good. A chocolate shake, with caramel and candy miniatures on top, a fun delicious dessert! Overall, I would say average burger joint, but not a stand out. If in the neighborhood, craving a burger, I might consider stopping by, but a bit pricey for an average burger. read more

Big Buns Damn Good Burgers also has bowls.  This is what we tried when he visited this afternoon.  The bowls can have salad or quinoa as a base or both.  We thought this was a different way to enjoy a burger but we weren't sure what to expect.  What we got was pretty straight forward - the burger we ordered on top of quinoa and salad instead of on a bun.  I think I was expecting something a little different like the ingredients for the burger mixed up somehow with the bowl base, in pieces, somehow a little different than just exactly what it seemed to be straight up burger on top of the bowl.  I have to say that the burger and toppings were really tasty.  The meat had a lot of flavor as did the mushrooms and fried onion straws. What would have made the bowl even better was if there was something to mix with the salad and the quinoa like a dressing or jus or something because once you enjoyed the great burger, the rest was a little bland.  Next time I might ask for some of the pepper mayo or something to stir in.  The restaurant is very clean and open with both booth and open table seating.  The service was very friendly.  The location has plenty of very easy parking. read more

Big Buns. Big booty works for me, but today I went with the Truffle Fries with Velveeta cheese. This place has been here for some time. I believe the last place was a burger joint too. The manager greeted everyone who walked in, but he wasn't smiling from what I saw. Nevertheless, he was polite and this goes the distance with me. The natural fruit juices were a nice touch. I tried all three, but like...loved the combination of Strawberry/watermelon and Ginger/Pear together. Loved the feeling of the ambience. If I hadn't been taking my food to go, I would have sat at the bar and enjoyed the basketball game....even if I don't follow NBA anymore. The place wasn't very busy, but the tables were clean from what I saw. If you need napkins, the paper towels are on each table. This comes in hand if you are the sort of person who eats with there hands. I prefer to use silverware for almost any meal. I will be sure to come back here with my wife. Fricken' Good Fried Chicken ($12.99) 4/5 This was a solid chicken sandwich. The chicken was so juicy and had a nice crunch. The sauce on it was pretty good and gave it good flavor. There was avocado in it which was pretty good but cut a bit big so it was spilling out a bit. Overall a pretty good chicken sandwich but you can get something just as good for a couple bucks less around the area. Parmesan Truffle Fries ($8.99) 3/5 These fries were fine but kind of average. The parmesan truffle gave a light taste and the fries were crispy. The chipotle aioli was pretty light too but a nice doing sauce. I rated this a little lower cause of the price and I honestly would not get them again cause it was pretty expensive for how much you get and it wasn't anything special. Mexican Churro Shake ($8.55) 3/5 I was a little disappointed with the shake. It was pretty much just a normal chocolate shake. They did put in a churro in it but it was very hard and difficult to eat. I was hoping for a nice, soft, and hot churro to contrast with the cold shake. This was pretty expensive for an average shake. The shake wasn't bad but there wasn't anything Mexican about it and it didn't seem like anything more than a normal chocolate shake. read more

Got some great deals at Big Buns Damn Good Burgers in Vienna...2 Anniversary Burgers, 2 Fricken' Good Fried Chicken Sandwiches, 2 orders of fries, and a variety of Maine Root fountain drinks. And, yes, everything was pretty damn good. Actually, they were EXCELLENT. Our burgers and chicken were cooked perfectly. We loved the grain mustard aioli on the burgers and homemade ranch on the chicken sandwiches. Plus, I don't usually like fountain drinks but really enjoyed the blueberry soda and blackberry lemonade. Big flavors, and over the top options. I haven't had a meal at Big Buns in several years (Ballston location). So to see this pop up out in Vienna was a pleasant surprise. The cashier was kind and didn't mind that everybody coming in was just trying to digest the lengthy menu. The dining room is clean and the drink station has more than just sodas. I'll be trying those next time. Ordered the anniversary burger which comes with cheddar, applewood-smoked bacon and grain mustard aioli. I asked for medium rare and they actually cooked it with a pink center. This was a juicy burger. The unicorn strawberry shake was for the novelty (and you get the blow-up drink floatie). So under each of those massive marshmallows is a proper straw for a thick shake. Overall, strong start. Delicious burger that comes out really quickly. Overall, Big Buns was a very enjoyable experience with good food and good service. We came in on a Friday night to a packed house. Lots of families and friends, definitely a place that's well lit and a good amount of setting. I was recommended the anniversary burger by an employee and it did not disappoint. A very generous sized burger that was juicy and filling. The fries were good too but for my preference, were a bit under cooked. I was hoping for some that were crispy but these were a touch on the soggy side, but it didn't impact the flavor at all. We devoured our burgers and left feeling Uber satisfied. A good recommendation when you want a good burger! Only reason for a star removal was unfortunately, the price is a bit steep. Two burgers, two fries and a drink and a water ran the tab to $40 pre tip. I'm sure it had to do with a premium burger and premium fries but it still so hard to fathom spending that much on burgers.
