Foster's has been a standby for us for several years and one of our fave burger joints. The burgers are chargrilled so you get the backyard BBQ type flavor that you don't get from a griddle/flattop. Although we enjoy Foster's there are a few suggestions which would take them to a full 4 star review- - the bun on the burger is always cold. Not warm or room temperature but cold. Recommend throwing the bun on the grill for a minute before putting the burger on it - the fries are inconsistent in terms of crispiness. Fries aren't bad but can be soggy on a pretty regular basis - It isn't cheap...if you get a cheeseburger meal with fries and drink you are looking $17-$18 and closer to $20 if you tip. - went recently and noticed a sign on the register that you get 3.5% discount if you pay cash. I told the cashier I'd pay cash and don't think I got the discount. It's on me that I didn't go back and question it but workers need to be aware of what Mgmt is offering. We came back to the area our hotel is in after a day in DC and stumbled upon this little gem after looking on Yelp for something "local". We are so glad we found it! I had a burger (cooked perfectly!), and onion rings. My wife had the boneless wings and fries with cheese and my son had a basic burger and fries. All of our food was cooked just right and didn't take too long. The atmosphere is fun and laid back with seating options both inside and outside. They have started charging for a lot of the items that used to be free 'add ons' like ranch dressing. We found out when we were charged and when we asked to take them off the bill, the woman refused. Very rude. I don't think the owner realizes that the ones left in charge are being very unpleasant. We spoke with the manager and he said something like "it's not going to hurt you". If you don't want any more business, this is the way to go about that. No one needs rudeness. read more

When I was in my teens, which was many years ago, burgers were often fixed over charcoal grills. Fosters continues this tradition to today. The burgers are large, half pound, and each is ordered to each customers specification. My wife comes here for the handmade milk shakes. I am grateful this restaurant can modify and still operate during this whole covid pandemic. I ordered from Fosters Grill for the first time through doordash, so it was delivered. The food arrived nicely packaged, good presentation. The burgers are hefty in size, nicely char grilled, and I had the cheese fries and a vanilla milkshake. Everything was really great. They have a lot of options to add on the burger. It was amazing. Next time I will only eat half and save the rest. The char grill is what makes this burger special. And its a thick patty, not thin. I only tried the cheeseburger and cookie and I would say the burger is normal it's nowhere near the best but not a bad burger, similar to a homemade burger. It is maybe comparable to red robin, chilis, applebees, and cheesecake factory burgers but the bun they use here is not a brioche bun I believe it's a standard potato or yeast bun. Five guys, glory days, smashburger, peri-peri original, red apron, and possibly burger 7 offer better burgers in the area. read more

If you have not been here before (it was our first visit) know ordering is fast casual, you order at the register take a number and they bring you the order when it is ready. So here is what I liked: Burgers Onion rings Wings (tried Southwest and mild) Staff (from the woman who greeted us as we entered to the young man who took our order to the young woman who brought items -- friendly, accommodating, understanding of a first time visitor, helpful) Relaxed and friendly atmosphere I was less thrilled with the strawberry milkshake (think strawberry quick from back in the day) and personally bothered by the extensive use of styrofoam. Interestingly they do apparently have an app so you can pre-order making the stuck the '80s excuse for styrofoam use less acceptable. Thankfully, they appeared to have salads made with lettuce other than iceburg. I know the styrofoam is a franchise thing and the local owner does not have control but it still bothers me. While they do have beer and wine this feels more like a family or teen sport team hangout than a meeting friends after work sort of place. Do I see myself visiting here again? Yes, especially if I am in the mood for a burger, onion rings, or wings or looking for a relaxed place to meet and munch in Vienna, just not with happy hour drinks in mind but maybe after church or a team game. read more

We were so excited to find a Foster's near our hotel on our recent visit. You know what's sad... is I know what Foster's can be and this isn't good enough. In fact, right down disappointing. The Foster's in Cape Coral , FL is so much better. My guess is because the owner still cares. This store might have just given up. The buns were too firm. Were they old and stale or just not properly prepared? The hamburger meat was from a pre pressed, pre cut sort of patty verses hand patted, fresh. You can just tell. Not good, no flavor. A waste of money. Where is this owner?!? Care already! The fries were fine but oil needs to be changed... again, you can just tell. The store was clean, I guess. Someone was mopping the whole time we were in there. The entrance rugs were pulled and folded on a bench where people sit... at 8:20. The store doesn't close until 9pm. Overall, not a great experience. We were the only customers from 8:20-8:55 on a Thursday night. read more

To be fair, there are cups for sanitized vs unsanitized pens but that wouldn't be needed if we didn't have to write down the order. Then the fountain drinks are open to the public...gross. I've heard about this place from friends and have seen other locations. I stumbled upon this one when looking for another place. The inside is cute, it has a local feel to it. You order at the counter and the girl working was very helpful. Never being here I wasn't sure what to get and she explained how to order. You first choose your entree, then add toppings and sides. There's an order sheet to guide you, kind of like when you're ordering sushi. I got a Lil Charburger with some toppings and a side of onion rings. My boyfriend got the Original Charburger with a side of fries. Food came out and it seemed sort of small portioned in my opinion. The flavor of the burger was really good, really "charred". Some of the best boneless barbecue wings we've ever had. It's a great value and they also came with a hefty side of fries. We stayed in VA for a weekend getaway and are still talking about these wings weeks later. We ordered through the phone and picked up our meal 15 minutes later. The warm, friendly staff serves good food from a decent-sized menu. The menu is a good size, with comfortable-burger-restaurant basics at good prices. I enjoyed my burger and fries. The milkshake was enjoyable also, but it more melted from the start than I like and didn't have quite as much flavor as I like. The restaurant has a couple of dining areas -- one that looks like it would be the default for parties -- plus the bar seating. There're several TVs around the restaurant, as well as a small arcade in the back of the restaurant. In general, you order at the front; however, if you're sitting at the bar, you can also order from there. Although the food didn't particularly stand out to me compared to other burger places, it was enjoyable and I'm sure I'll be back. Fosters is one of my favorites. I visit the restaurant in Manassas and in Vienna. I like the atmosphere, the outdoor option, the cleanliness, the friendly staff. I like the value for the price. I especially like the menu which includes a good sized burger with the trimmings, fish and chips, and other items for the non-burger fan. I am a burger fanatic. You won't find me at McDonald or BK unless I really have to. Whenever I am out in CA or Vegas, I always stop by at In N Out Burger. Around here, I went to the original 5 Guys and they are my favorite to go for a burger. Foster is another place. The burger is cooked perfectly and you can really taste the freshness. This is a charming, fast-casual burger place that would be great for kids. The food is good and the prices are reasonable, though I am afraid that Foster's faces some stiff competition. This place feels a little like a bar, with beer and wine offerings. But it's also very family friendly, and set up as a fast-casual place. You order and pay at the cashier, serve yourself at the soda fountain, and your food is brought out to your table. Unlike the newer fast casual burger places, the Foster's burger patty is, unfortunately, a pretty bland, formerly frozen burger that doesn't have a ton of personality. That's too bad, because the bun and toppings give the sandwich some personality. And the fries are great. If they upped their burger, they could really compete with the newer burger chains. This place is a pretty typical hometown burger joint. There's nothing terrible and there's absolutely nothing special about it. Definitely a lot of rowdy kids in here when I've been here. I think, while the food was tasty enough, the fact that I've not been back here more than my initial couple of visits (and I live very nearby) is a testament to how "meh" Foster's is. Nothing sets it apart, and there are way too many great restaurants (even if you just count burger places) in the D.C.-metro region to worry about going back here much. I have gone to Foster's many times for lunch. It has been in regular rotation with my lunch group for a couple of years. The burgers are pretty good, but a little pricey for what you're getting. You can eat on the cheap when they have the junior burger discount one day a week (I think it's Tuesday). The service at this location is pretty much non-existent. You fill out an order slip and write you're name on it. They ask you to point to the table you're going to sit at and write a number on the slip. Later, someone will bring your food out to your table and start calling the names on the slips. That's pretty much it. Still, I'm going there to get a burger, fries, and a drink. Once that's brought to me, I eat and leave. The lack of service really is not an issue. read more

Vienna is full of good restaurants, sadly, this isn't one of them. You'll get better customer service at any McDonalds or Taco Bell run by people who don't speak English but are eager to serve you. I decided for the new year that i would "give up" my two biggest indulgences in order to promote a healthier lifestyle. For me, those two things are beer and cheeseburgers. The beer lasted until science fair, which drives all science teachers to drink. However, i was doing really well with the cheeseburgers, as i found alternatives such as kubideh kabobs to satisfy my cravings. Then I cracked. And i REALLY wanted a hamburger. And if i'm going to break my "diet" its going to be at Fosters. Fosters is famous for their "charburger" , which basically means crispier on the outside, but still nice and juicy inside. What i love about them is the fact you order on a little pad, meaning theres no way they can mess up what they put on your burger! The fries are awesome, boardwalk style and there is vinegar on all the tables for those of you who like that option. And since you're already eating the burger and fries, you definitely need to get a milkshake. They are basically the same consistancy of a Frosty, but have real handscooped ice cream and you can watch them make it before you very eyes. Might as well go all out. I know they have healthier options, which i'm sure are also as good, but in all honesty you're never going to catch me passing up an awesome cheeseburger for a salad. Obviously, everyone is making the comparisons to Five Guys, as that is the dominant local burger joint...but I might be in the minority in saying that Five Guys has really stagnated in quality while their prices have risen considerably over the years. With the aggressive expansion the concept of Five Guys is really starting to lose some of its charm for me. At five guys, you get an extremely greasy and stingy patty (or two) of ground beef. Yes the meat is fresh and not frozen, but it's also really dull in flavor outside of the preponderance of fat. Fosters Grille has a chargrilled patty that is a bit thicker then five guys' double stuffed "regular" burger and comes with cheese as a free extra. The burger is not greasy and has better texture and flavor then five guys...though I assume the patties to be frozen instead of fresh which can impact the evenness of the cooking. The wealth of toppings offered by five guys is not equaled by Foster's...Mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and cheese are all offered at no charge...bacon comes in at $0.75 extra. Your price includes fries and a drink, making it a better value then five guys in most cases as well. My problem with Five Guys recently is that the consistency of their fry cooking has gone in the toilet completely. Sometimes you'll get a batch of barely fried greasy limp sticks and sometimes you get the batch of divinely crispy and well seasoned fries you expected. More often then not, you're getting something in between...underdone, over greased and limp to a fault. Foster's fries aren't anything surprising, but the texture is currently surpassing Five Guys standards as of late. They come out crisp and dark, ready for a dousing of malt vinegar...though you should be forwarned, when taking your food to go, the Styrofoam container will quickly ruin the texture of your fries...so assume they don't travel well and eat in the restaurant. Finally, Fosters offers considerably more variety then Five Guys. Chicken Sandwiches, oven roasted turkey and roast beef, two salads and buffalo wings. Options like chili cheese fries, milkshakes, draft beer and fresh squeezed lemonade (yes they have lemons and a squeezer right behind the counter) provide a lot more variety then Five Guys and the "kids menu" of smaller burgers, grilled cheese, hot dogs and chicken fingers make the place a little more family friendly. Don't get me wrong, the place is quite corny with local advertisements plastered into the tables, a gigantic race-car body hangs from the ceiling and there is a selection of neo-vintage tin signs with lots of "attitude"...so it's far from perfect. But the food is decent, the prices are respectable, there's a happy hour for beer and I won't be sliding out the door on a river of burger grease...so this place gets my vote over five guys for right now. read more
