It's a seat yourself establish with a diner feel to it. Plenty of parking since it is in the same shopping center as Safeway. Two bathrooms that were okay. I came back again for their breakfast menu and was not disappointed! I ended up ordering their Smoked Salmon Benedict and it was yummy. Great portion size. Technically I would say 3.5 stars but I only stopped in very impromptu around 1015AM on a Monday with a bfast sando on the brain so I can't comment on much else to bring this review up to a 4. I was in the area, had to kill some time, had not had bfast so searched (where else???) Yelp and found this place. Perfect - a self proclaimed NY Deli with bagels advertised in the side window, open in the am so figured they HAD to have bfast bagel sandos and walked in. Walking in you get the feel of a very old retro diner - something you would find tucked away on a side street in NYC. Sufficiently clean and neat but not immaculate or beautifully appointed and decorated. Definitely nothing fancy - let's just say, you're not coming here for the ambiance. That morning, the place was not bustling with customers at all - I was the only one there. You can order and pay at the counter (Einstein Bagel or Panera style) or there's actually a full service sit down dining area that is most of the restaurant. The workers were young and super nice. No complaints regarding service. I ordered my bfast sando - a bacon egg cheese (swiss) on a lightly toasted onion bagel and got a bottled juice (see my pics) - $12 which I thought, especially after unwrapping the sandwich in my car was a more than fair price for how big and paxked the bagel sando was (definitely no skipping going on!). AND it was piping hot and delicious - but also in all fairness, how can you screw up a BEC bagel sando?? The bagel "flavors" were slim pickin's that morning, In their display baskets, I had a choice of 1 onion, couple plain, and a couple raisin bagels. That was it! The girl told me someone had come in and cleaned them out that morning. No idea if the bagels are made there fresh - highly doubt it. But the onion bagel for my sandwich did taste fresh and was classic NY-style chewy and doughy. As I said, I was laser focused on my BEC sando - so I didn't get a chance to even read what else they offered on their menu. I didn't even look at or ask for prices. Would I go out of my way to come here again? No. If I was in the area passing through and had a hankerin' for a BEC sando or a sit down made-to-order bfast, would I come here again? Possibly. I'm just not sure how much business this place does being tucked away allll the way at the very end of the shopping center - this place is truly tucked away and out of site - you basically have to know it's there- which begs the question: how often do their deli meats and fresh (fruit and veg) ingredients turn over or how long do they sit "on the shelf"? The price I paid was VERY reasonable and fair for what I got. So I assume the rest of their menu items are also fairly priced. I would stop in here (but only if I was in the area) to get a BEC sando over one at Starbucks or Panera or Einstein's, hands down. But I would have to come back during lunch or dinner to try their deli sandwiches or other menu items and see how busy this place gets in order to recommend it further. Absolutely amazingly delicious deli items. I was running errands and decided to stop by for lunch to go. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner items. I ordered a grilled Pastrami Reuben on rye which came with sauerkraut, melted swiss, pastrami, and Thousand Island dressing. He said I was gonna enjoy it, and I certainly did! The pastrami was the king of the show and it's the best pastrami I've had in years. Man, it was loaded and perfectly made. I also ordered a Potato Latke, perfectly crispy and fried, with a side of sour cream. Yummmmy! Service was welcoming and friendly. They asked had I been there before and we had nice conversation. I did a to-go order and the process was great. The website was easy to navigate, when you go into the store there was clear signage, and the food was hot and ready to go when I got there. I ordered the macaroni salad, pulled bbq chicken poutine, and a slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake was excellent, the macaroni salad was good deli style and wasn't dry, and the flavor of the poutine was good and a huge size. My only complaint is there was way too much bbq sauce. I tried this restaurant as I was craving a good ol salmon and lox bagel, and while I would usually go to a different spot, I was curious about trying a new business. My pilates pal suggested that I try this deli. Upon walking in the place, smells like breakfast heaven a lot of open displays with delicious offerings definitely got my appetite and mouth watering! I saw that they are running a breakfast special for pumpkin pancakes and two slices of maple bacon for $20. I did not allow myself to get distracted, so I quickly went up to the register and needed a little bit of time because the offerings and menu are plentiful. I let the gentleman know this was my first time and to please be patient with me. Of course, this place is known as a New York deli so the fact that I needed a little bit of extra time didn't necessarily help the process in patrons are lining up behind me. I ended up ordering the salmon and lox on an onion bagel, upgrading to a herb cream cheese and asking for cucumbers and capers as well, which are not included in the standard lox bagel. I asked for avocado and the gentleman said "don't push it". When the gentleman at the cash register who I assume is at least the manager if not possibly the owner told me that this bagel would cost me $20. I hesitated a little bit and I asked him. "For one bagel"? He then asked me if I wanted a beverage, which I politely declined. I don't think that was received very well either. I briefly sat down to wait for my bagel and was told to get up and go towards the exit to wait and not occupy space. The vibes were a little different than I expected. I of course got up and moved. If I may say so, the bagel was actually extremely delicious. I asked for a side of hot sauce and got a small portion I had to ask for more. The bagel itself was made quality and from what I understand, imported from New York. All in all my bagel was delicious even when it did not include the capers that I paid for. We had really good food and really great service here! The dining room does put you in the mind of a NY deli. One seats one's self and the server quickly comes to take your order our server, Charlie, made great recommendations and was very friendly and accommodating. We were greeted by Benji (behind the counter) who was very friendly. I got the pastrami sandwich and chips. Hot mustard already on the table. Complementary pickles and coleslaw (some of the best I've ever had) served before your meal. My friend got the bagel with locks and said it was good. We came late in the evening (almost closing), so Benji gave us some delicious sweet treats to end our night. If you're ever wanting really good New York deli, please check them out. It's savory, comforting and delicious to eat when the ball is soft too. I would get this to go if I am looking for a quick meal but it's hard to not pass up on this. The Reuben Sandwich was really gigantic! Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese & Russian Dressing are the only ingredients made for this sandwich. For most people I recommend getting only half of the sandwich as I had to take the other half home. The fries were also fresh as they were hand-cut fries and they had a delicious crunch to them. I hesitate to post this review. I went to chutzpah for emergency chicken soup for my son (it is indeed the best medicine). I decided to grab a Reuben sandwich (which is so meaty it could feed a family of 4). It came with delightful applesauce for my potato latke. This hidden gem has been providing a New York experience for over 25 years for a reason. The food is unbelievable, the deli is clean and well run. You can't swing a dead rat in Manhattan without hitting a bagel shop or delicatessen. NOVA? We take what we can get and this one is pretty darned good. The Reuben here was great - I can't speak for the rest of the menu, though. I bet you it's better than Firehouse subs, Jason's, or Santini's. The Reuben was juicy, flavorful, and huge. I had a choice of sides and chose the potato latke which also came with a small container of sour cream (I could have also chosen apple sauce), as well as a whole mild dill pickle. $20. A bit expensive? Yeah, a bit. But consider you would pay the same at Five Guys for the same volume of food. Trust me, you'll feel better putting this lovely sandwich down your gullet than a double burger (an admittedly good one) and a pound of peanut oil-laden fries. Crunchy tangy sauerkraut , sweet tangy dressing, mildly sharp Swiss cheese, and juicy savory corned beef - the best lunch to start a food coma off with. The latke was pretty good. Good spicy mustard already at the table. When they mean spicy on sandwiches, though, do expect the kick. I got the Esther, which was very tasty but the pickled peppers also had a kick to them. Over the many visits, I've enjoyed many of the sandwich offerings and honestly can't nail down a singular "favorite". So many, are so, so GOOD! The table condiments are very good (just DON'T ask for mayo ). There's a squeeze bottle of a spicy house special sauce that's crazy good on the Smoked Pastrami. Eric has succeeded in naturally creating a genuine NY experience not only with NY sports memorabilia on the walls but an inviting vibe the moment you enter, delicious fare including huge pastrami, corned beef, whitefish salad, tuna salad and numerous sandwiches, great salad options, beautiful knishes, potato latkes, meatloaf and probably the best pea soup I have ever had plus a solid team that is on the ball. The slaw with the pickle( photo) brought back some sweet memories and a tear or three. B & W and rainbow cookies as well! My server Charlie was this awesome and fun lady who handled several tables and yes a couple of grumpy and impatient ol' NYers seated behind me with class, patience and a big smile.
