    French onion soup
    Allison K.

Went on a Monday night, it was filled with people who I'm assuming are regulars. Waiter didn't come back to take our order for like 15 mins which was slightly upsetting since we were both hungry, but after taking the order the food came out within 10 mins. The French onion soup was divine, filled with bread chunks and gooey mozzarella. The blueberry pancakes were fluffy and delicious, and bacon & eggs were standard. My boyfriend got a shepherd's pie to try out, which was savory and homey. Excellent local diner, will return to try their corned beef, chicken pot pie, and apple pie a la mode!

Great family diner. Very friendly service, extensive menu. Solid omelettes, fluffy pancakes, delicious coffee. Service was friendly and prompt, restaurant was busy and we left happy. Tried a little burning everything- French toast, Greek omelette, chicken tender platter, side of pancakes (plain and chocolate chip), home fries. Will return!

California native here. Came after church on a Sunday and it was packed but we were seated immediately. I really enjoyed the chocolate pancake and omelet. You can't really go wrong! Service was friendly. Parking in parking lot

The service was lovely. The staff treated us like old friends The food was served quickly and the portions were generous, hot and prompt. It was busy when we arrived and we didn't wait long. They have a smooth operation going on for a crowded Saturday morning. There's lots of tables and booths and it's a warm environment. Not too loud. The menu has many offerings. It's great for a quick bite to eat with old school favorites. My pancakes were delicious and their Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts was yummy. I'd return for that combination any day. The service was fantastic. I didn't snap a photo of any of the other dishes sadly. We gobbled them up too quickly

The food was delicious and the service was exemplary (my coffee cup never approached being empty). I had the ham, mushroom and cheese omelet with fried potatoes (I added onions to the omelet). It was a little pricey but it seems that everything is these days.

Greek salad w gyro meat on top. Enough for several to share. Greek dressing was spot on too.

Quality AND value. Take a look at the photos as everything was amazing. Reminds me of the fabulous Greek diners up in NY yrs ago. I see why it is crowded all the time but they sat us fairly quickly at 2 tables as we had 9 in our party without reservations after church.

I grew up in McLean, and it took me over two decades to finally visit one of the oldest places in town! I came for breakfast on a Thursday morning, and was quite excited to try it out. When we arrived, we were sat down pretty quickly (the place was quite full for a weekday morning). I ordered the heart-healthy omelet, which was honestly just average. I was a bit disappointed, as I had pretty high expectations. Pricing is pretty normal my McLean standards.

This is a local place that is much like a diner. The food is not remarkable it is just plain. Pretty busy after church on Sunday. Nothing bad. Nothing remarkable.

This is one of our go-to spots for a meal. The food, service, and admittedly the decor here is from a bygone era--in a good way. Cozy booths line the walls, staff are attentive and warm, and regulars are abundant. The portions are not oversized like many diners, but the price is also commensurate with their smaller, more reasonable size. A similar omelette to one that's $16 at Silver Diner is a little smaller here but also only $12 and a bit less oily. The food is delicious and fresh. They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. Rather, they take basics like breakfast staples, soups, salads, sandwiches, and comfort foods and just do them well. Coffee is a solid diner brew and they keep the refills coming. Don't miss the chicken lemon soup. It's Greek comfort food. We often take a quart home. Their pancakes are fluffy and flavorful, eggs always perfect. The chicken tenders are one of my favorite orders. The Reuben/Rachel or club is my go-to. The salads are crisp and simple with dressings that taste homemade. My husband loves the chicken parm dinner. I wish there were those a-little-of-everything breakfast plates here because I love variety and it eases the breakfast menu decision fatigue. But honestly, I just make my own from the a la carte options and get exactly what I want so its not a huge loss. One thing to note: ditch entitled or rude behavior at the door before dining here. Someone mentioned a beef about a "country club" attitude. In 70+ visits, I've never seen that, but I have witnessed school manners: please, thank you, taking off your hat at the door, not yelling at people, being patient with an elderly person moving a tad slower. This isn't weirdly enforced by the staff per se, but just so commonly practiced among most here that boorish behavior would stand out.

The only downside of the experience is at the end when the waiter was boxing up all the food for us. Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. So that was kind of a disappointment for us. I think if we go again, we would request to box our food ourselves since I'm not sure why they decided to get rid of all of his lamb.

I understand that you can't as a restaurant work on the same menu all the time, but they take away almost all staples and replace them with something very questionable. Whole dish seems underwhelming and had a lack of bonding sauce or flavor profile to make it a dish. Second time I had Salmon salad and this was not good at all. Salmon itself was perfectly cooked as a medium rare on my liking and champagne dressing in mixed greens was good. But I salad had cold and slimy potato pieces and big chunks of blackish marinated onions,it was hard to eat and even unpleasant. Our server was friendly and efficient, which I appreciated. One small suggestion would be to offer a separate coffee menu when guests are seated, alongside the brunch menu, since I was not really looking for alcoholic or sweeter drink options. The food was thoughtfully prepared and overall very enjoyable. I ordered the Morning Market Board, which included a frittata, salad, and hearth bread. The frittata was simple with caramelized onion but still quite flavorful. The burrata paired nicely with the grilled bread, and I especially liked the grilled asparagus in the refreshing salad. My partner had the Sunday Night Lasagna, which was rich, cheesy, and satisfying. The only minor issue was that a spoon would have been helpful for a saucy dish like that since it is a bit tricky to manage with just a fork and knife. My cappuccino was average but still enjoyable. Overall, this is a pleasant brunch spot with a quieter vibe than expected, making it a nice place to relax and catch up. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

Carlyle is our go-to (11/10), Mikes American is wonderful (9/10), and Silverado (10/10) never disappoints. But we'll never visit Coastal Flats ("CF") again. CF was pretty busy so we ordered quickly: a CF lager, a cocktail, the community bread basket, the fritters as an appetizer, crab cakes, and a grilled chicken & havarti sandwich. Based on a recommendation, we REALLY wanted to try the fritters appetizer. Unfortunately, our entrees came out after the bread basket and we never had a chance to try the fritters... our multiple servers (their operating model) totally forgot about it and we never received the item. The butter for the bread basket was half liquid when we received it. The chicken sandwich was bland. The lager wasn't anything special. Crab cakes were as good as they should have been... for the market price of $36. But how do you totally forget about one of our orders? The staff tried to fix this by offering a free round of drinks or a dessert, but we already had enough to drink and the limited dessert menu only has three items. Hats off to the staff for offering, but with so many servers/staff constantly buzzing around and checking every table, why did this even happen? Nobody is perfect. Well, Mike's American, Silverado, and (the AMAZING) Carlyle are close. Compared to those restaurants in the same portfolio, Coastal Flats in the Tysons Mall is unbecoming of a Great American Restaurants establishment. We were disappointed and won't return. We suggest to everyone who has invested the time to read my review: go to any other of the Great American Restaurants, but SKIP Coastal Flats at the Tysons Mall as they might SKIP putting in one of your orders.

I said i didn't order this, so maybe the menu is incorrect? Either way, the server didn't apologize and didn't offer to take it off the bill and was just irritated at her own mistake. Asked another server if they have flights and they do not (unlike other breweries) but they allow 3 tastings per person at the bar (not at the table where we were). We had a caesar salad where the lettuce was soft and wet. It doesn't seem like they properly dried the washed lettuce, so I ended up with soggy rather than crispy bites. The pizza was like a dry focaccia with not enough overcooked toppings. The forager was probably the best one thanks to the truffle oil and had a proper cheesy crust. The other two pizzas we tried didn't have enough cheese to have a crispy crust, were too thick and dry, and weren't hot enough for the burrata to melt. It's not clear to me if these pizzas are par baked or just reheated but they were not good. Would not order again.
