This was my first time venturing into this diner and I truthfully didn't know what to expect as I've had mixed experiences in diners outside of NJ. Upon walking in it totally had a retro diner feel and I sat at the counter. The server was super friendly and greeted almost immediately upon pulling up to the counter. The biggest difference I noticed between this diner and NJ diners is that this menu was super limited (for a diner) as NJ diner's menus are like text books . They had a new summer menu and the shrimp watermelon salad caught my attention (& the server highly recommended it) so I said let me give it a shot. The salad itself was delicious with all ingredients being super fresh (& they promote fresh local ingredients which I love) and there was a great harmony between the well seasoned shrimp, watermelon, feta, mint, pomegranate seeds and tomatoes. I'd totally order this again. Overall it was a great experience and I'll definitely be back to try some of their "real" diner food (fries and shakes etc), yet today was a healthy test run, and the Silver Diner passed! read more

Very cool and fun atmosphere. Great music mixture of old rock, big band and pop. All day breakfast and brunch makes me think of IHOP. Chicken and waffles was on point. The white gravy with sausage was nom nom, just needed some biscuits. I got the shrimp scampi which I won't get again. Hunger won over and I ate the whole plate not after adding a lot more salt and pepper. Meatloaf as pretty as it looked was also just "okay". With a menu bigger than Cafe Tropical and options for all types of dietary restrictions, this place has something for everyone. They have several delicious gluten free options on the menu, and you can substitute gluten free bread or buns on a lot of other dishes as well. If you're not sure about a dish, their allergen menu is comprehensive and a great resource. My go-tos are the impossible burger with GF bun, quinoa coconut pancakes, and the three cheese omelette. Silver Diner always hits the spot, whether its for breakfast, dinner, or breakfast for dinner. Went here for dinner the other night, placed our order and while waiting for our meals to arrive I see out of the corner of my eye a mouse run right by our table! My friends and I instantly get up to leave after seeing this and when telling our server (standing near the entrance) why we were leaving, he asked if we would like to switch to a different table... This place needs a deep cleaning! The first thing I noticed was how sticky and dirty looking the tables and seats are. The jellies on the tables are covered in dust. Can you please remove the Seeburg jukebox from the tables. They are in dying need of a proper cleaning. The letters are coated in ketchup and mustard. This place can get crowded especially on Sundays when all the saints are out of church. However, they are very good at getting you seated as quickly as possible. Food: They have a great selection of food. I haven't been disappointed with food. If you have a sweet tooth the banana stuff french toast is a great option. The caramel French toast is a hit or miss. My son is a huge fan of Silver Diner so we go pretty frequently for pancakes and other fare. Usually we go to the one in Merrifield which is consistent with online ordering and pickup. Tonight I went to the Tysons one to support a fundraiser. Ordering online is straightforward and substitutions and changes per order is easy. We ordered about 90 minutes ahead of time and scheduled our pickup time. We ordered pancakes and an omelet. I arrived a minute early, called, have them the name of the order, which was verified twice, and gave them my spot number for them to bring it my order. Other cars came and went and after 20 minutes I went in and there was my order just sitting there, which was handed over in a minute. After sitting out for 20 minutes plus the drive home, by the time I got home everything was lukewarm at best. The order was correct and tasted okay but a hot meal was what we wanted; overall a really disappointing experience. I'll stick to the Silver Diner by me in the future. read more

Silver Diner? Ehhh Bronze Diner maybe...If it wasn't for my love for old-fashioned 50s American diner retro style dining, I wouldn't even bother coming here. Service always seems to be disappointing no matter how many chances I give them. They start off strong with a good intro, deal in on the specials, and then basically leave you alone. Your food hits the table, and they don't come back to check on you or anything. Really? Bruh, like food was good... And honestly I'm tryna leave ya a good tip but you're not really helping me or yourself for the matter. They have a great menu filled with a lot of healthy, savory, fresh dishes, and even smoothies and milkshakes galore. I have some favorite dishes here that I can't get anywhere else, like the Teriyaki Glazed Portabellas. I love the combination of the mushrooms with butternut squash and asparagus, and the garlic seasoning topped with black sesame. I would really recommend this dish, if only it weren't a seasonal item. I like that this diner also serves alcohol and has a wide selection of cocktails, wines and other beverages. At least there's one thing that's nice; they are open until 2 AM on some nights for the all the late night peeps out there. Hope the service gets better. read more

Just finished an 8 hour shift from 3 to 11 and for some reason, I got hungry. Driving back from my job, the idea of Silver Dinner popped into my head. The restaurant wasn't too crowded this night. Walked into the place and was seated immediately. MR. Ashim S. Was my server and he was very quick to fix the mistake that was made in my order. He apologized and fixed the problem quickly. This is a guy that will go far in his job. He made this night's experience wonderful. The couple sitting in front of me were not obnoxious, but the guy definitely liked to use the F-word a lot. The Silver diner has always been our go to place when we visit the DC area. Conveniently located near Tyson's Corner Center this diner is always crowded and bustling. It has a slightly upscale feel about it but is indeed family friendly. Since my last visit here I noticed that they are now using local sourced foods which has always been a favorite of mine. Not far from where we were sitting they have mobile phone charging ports. As is tradional diner style portion sizes are huge so I was indeed glad that they offered a lunch duo where you can pair half sandwich with a side of soup or salad. Vegetarian options are also on the menu. I love also that they had vegan kethup on our table! How nifty is that! My husband had 1/2 turkey club paired with a side salad. I had the vegetarian platter with noodles. Both came out rather quickly and were so good! Did I fail to mention they have milkshakes here? Also some of the best. The Silver Diner is a chain diner in this area so it makes a good place to get a great meal. Desserts too are offered in generous portions so be prepared to come hungry. No trip to the DC area would be completed for me without one visit here. read more

It's a farm fresh brunch with great food but not the high prices. The only issue is that brunch on the weekends is a bit nuts with large parties and screaming kids, which is fine if you have screaming kids (as my friend did that day.) I have gone to nearly all the Silver Diners in the Metro area. I know what they have and I like their brunch. That said, I took my kids and sister here for an early dinner the Monday after Thanksgiving to this one across from Tyson's. The kids menu offered a choice of milk, soy milk, or juice with the kids' meals. I was pleasantly surprised to see soy milk offered as my youngest is both nut and milk allergic. We ordered, and I ordered soy milk for him. The waitress was peppy and polite when at the table, the food came quickly, as did the boys' drinks. My son begins drinking and about 10 minutes after we got their meals (they did a great job of getting the kids' meals out well before our food), he stops eating and starts fussing and his face gets flushed. I let him continue to pick, thinking nothing of it as this happens from time to time. Our food arrives and my sister and I eat. My youngest is still picking at his food and trying to drink out of the straw (which didn't bend so he wasn't getting much, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise). So, 1) their kids meal offers macaroni and cheese as a stand-alone entree only, it really should also be a potential side item; and 2) they do a good job of letting you put together a fairly balanced meal on the kids' menu. HOWEVER--we went to order dessert and I asked for the chocolate cake and my oldest wanted milk (he had apple juice with his meal). She looks at me and says "do you want almond or regular?" I IMMEDIATELY ASKED, "what do you mean 'almond' or 'regular' do you not have soy milk!!!" She then says, "we have soy-almond"! I SNATCHED the cup away from my toddler, who has barely managed to get 2 oz out thanks to the non-bendy straw and check his face and throat--flushed, but not very red, no bumps, and no breathing obstructions--and let him finish eating. I tell her: I TOLD YOU THAT HE WAS ALLERGIC TO NUTS when we ordered. She was just like, well it's "soy almond" milk. FIRST OF ALL, NO TF it's not. It's ALMOND milk. Silk, Almond milk to be specific. Second of all, I TOLD YOU HE WAS ALLERGIC TO NUTS. We wait about 10 minutes for her to come back with our box and the check and I'm CONSTANTLY watching him to check his breathing and his face. She shrugs it off like it's no big deal. We immediately pack up--I keep an epi pen and Benadryl in the car anyway--and I walk out with him to go give him medicine. I see the manager at the register and tell him what happened and he literally spouts the SAME NONSENSE: It's "soy almond" milk. 1) THERE IS NO SUCH THING; AND 2) ARE THEY INSANE? HAVE THEY NEVER LIVED IN AMERICA??? THEY COULD HAVE KILLED MY SON!!! I had to stab my son with an epi pen and watch him all night, NOT TO MENTION THE 45 minute ride home in traffic where I couldn't see him. Thank God, he's never gotten to the point where he's deathly allergic. His reactions are and have always been slow. We were able to get him both of his medicines and watch him. He was crying and clingy all night, but otherwise fine--other than the itchy bumps he has all over his legs and arms. Honestly, if you or someone you know had a reaction and were seriously injured, feel free to reach out for a witness statement. These people were so lackadaisical, I felt like I was in another WORLD. Whether this is a franchise or a corporate location, every person in that building needs re-training. If the front of the house staff is too dense to understand what a deathly allergic reaction COULD be, they need to be forced to provide sealed and labeled food products to customers. There is no reason after I told her he was milk and nut allergic that I should have been provided NUT MILK in a cup that didn't let me know what was in it. My heart is still pounding. I am still stressed. My son is still dealing with the fallout--bruise from the epi-pen and the itchy bumps that he's had for a week. So, thanks for ruining my dining out experience Silver Diner. The "manager" was the icing on the cake! I didn't ask them to comp the meal, I tipped well, I was polite about it, but they didn't even apologize. Not once. Oh, and their menu STILL SAYS SOY MILK... be warned. read more
