Great place to get great deals on outdoor merchandise. Their carry camping, skiing, fishing, cycling, pet accessories, etc. In the back of the store the have bargain bins and thirds selection. You can get pretty good deals. Once I got a pair of Ecco angle boots for $9.99 retail value was $120.00. Spyder jacket for $49.99 retail value $300.00. I think I've been lucky quite a few times to get great deals. If, you sign up online for their mailing list you receive additional off coupons. For a sporting goods store I do like to visit this store. I love the products and brands they carry. While they have quality stuff you can still occasionally get a good deal. Unfortunately every time I visit the service has been pretty poor. If you have a question while shopping staff on the floor are non existent. During my last visit was in search of ski socks. After wandering around searching for 10 minutes with no luck finding any I finally spotted an employee. Without looking up or even pointing me to the ski sock area I was given a generic we must be sold out as did not have many left. So figured i would browse a little more and then head to another store. Around the middle aisle I find a terminal were you can search their online catalog. Figured what the heck and searched for ski socks. Well what do you know it shows many pairs in stock in the store and they are on sale for a pretty good price. I settle on a pair that are on sale for $10 and order them. The instructions tell me to go to the cashier, give them my name and pay. So now I am on a mission as I know there are ski socks somewhere in this store and I am going to find them! Sure enough I find their ski socks in a back corner, and they actually have quite a few to chose from. I grab the pair I just ordered for $10 and head to the cashier. The cashier rings me up and the socks come up as $22. So I figure this is an easy fix as will just explain I had ordered them on their terminal in the store and it shows they are actually on sale for $10. Based on her expression and response I could tell my simple fix did not make her happy! So after explaining several times that they really do have a terminal inside the store since she did not know this or believe me, and then much discussion explaining the instructions it provided me after I ordered them, she checks with the cashier next to her. Well based on the 2nd cashiers response and apparent desire to do all she could to not get involved, this unfortunately did not make her happy either! So after a pleasant 5 minute discussion were it appeared I had now put everyone out, they call the manager over. She scurries over, does not acknowledge me, mumbled something to the cashier, waves her magic manager card over the register, and walks away. So while the service was poor, I am happy to say I got a good deal on a great pair of ski socks for $10! read more

You can always expect to find a decent selection of clothes, hiking gear, backpacking gear, running shoes, and some sundry home items. You can also find hunting gear, climbing gear, ski gear, and other gear for various outdoor activities. It's not necessarily cheap merchandise, but you can always find a good deal if you know exactly what you're looking for. They also have a section that is always open for used/return closeouts. Sierra Trading Post is like the outlet of outdoor sporting goods store! Although the selection of clothing / goods is limited, prices here are drastically lower than going to the name brand store! You're not going to find a lot of sizes of the same shirt or the same pair of pants at this store. Accept that fact and explore what they have to offer, and this store won't disappoint. They have name brand clothing like Patagonia, Columbia, Marmot, The North Face, etc. at prices you can't believe. And they have a wide selection of outdoorsy things you might need like ski pants, waterproof jackets, base layers, athletic tees / shorts, winter coats, hiking boots, and many more. But again, the caveat is you have to look! And be sure to try on the clothing! Some brands say Medium, but fit more like a large (or vice versa). Don't just rely on the tag. They also have tents, sleeping bags, and other camping equipment at reasonable prices! If they don't have what you're looking for, check online! You can buy it online and get it shipped o the store for free! You can also wait a few weeks or so to see if they added any new merchandise. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy shopping here. Love this company. Have been shopping with them since 1998 and they are still my go to for shoes . The only problem with the Reno store is their limited inventory, are very small compared to the CO stores. So when ordering shoes I order two different sizes and have to return one of them after trying them on. Last time I was there there clerk was quite rude about the return, saying my account showed a high rate of returns. My advice stock your store with the higher end shoes and stop judging your customers. read more

I returned two items, and they only reimbursed me for one. They owe me $104 and change, and they keep ignoring me about it, even though I call and email them every day. They keep sending me a form email, or falsely claiming on the phone that they reimbursed me for both items, but it is a lie. Only one reimbursement reached my bank. They have to have the returned item for 3 weeks now, but are obviously intent on keeping my money. This company is lazy and corrupt. They tell you they work out of your home, so they can't put you on to talk to a manager most of the time you call. Do not buy from them unless you are absolutely sure you're going to keep the item, because they may keep your money and lie, about it, rather than even investigate what happened. Sierra Trading Post isn't my go to place for outdoors items. But it does offer good items for hiking, overnight camping, hiking shoes, camping equipment, clothes, and more. I do like some of their clearance items and usually go there for the deals. I have only shopped here a hand full of times. There is plenty of parking for this shopping center but when it gets busy at Whole Foods it does get a bit tricky with parking. Just a side note. For the most part the deals that you can get at Sierra Trading Post are good. But like I said it is not my go to place. Inside the store it is very spacious and lots of items to look at. They have a women's and men's clothing section. They also have a shoe department which carries a good arrangement of fairly priced shoes and boots for any occasion. But mostly outdoor hiking boots both men's and women's. But my main take away from this store is that they do have some good clearance items. They have terrible shipping services, worse than any other company I've ordered from before. Their shipping contract with FedEx is FedEx Ground Economy, which is a cheap and incredibly slow shipping service. Once your package arrives at it's destination city, it will sit in FedEx's possession for several days before it is transferred to the USPS. Then, you have to wait for the USPS to deliver your package. On top of this, when you call FedEx and enter your tracking #, the automated system will tell you that your package has been transferred to the Postal Service, but when you track your package at FedEx.com, the tracking information shows that your package has been loaded on a FedEx vehicle and is our for delivery... but the package never gets delivered because FedEx isn't the company delivering it! My latest delivery has shown on FedEx's website the past three days as loaded on a FedEx vehicle and out for delivery, but FedEx doesn't even have package. You need to do better for your customers Sierra Trading Post. read more

I was so excited by my first visits to Sierra Trading post more than a decade ago - that I made my friend pop in here because I wanted to find a few things. Sadly, I did not find the bins full of bargains that made me fall in love with this store. My friend found some sandals that made her incredibly happy and we met some cute dogs. So I have been shopping on this website online occassionally. They tend to have good deals and sometimes free shipping codes so when I found out they have a storefront in Reno and I was in Reno for the rib festival I figured it would be worth checking out. This store is very hit or miss, you can find some great deals or you can waste your time going around the store. Luckily when I went it was a holiday so they were offering an additional discount. I ended up finding a pearl izumi cycling jersey in purple for about $25 and a 3 pack of pearl izumi socks for $6. I went with my boyfriend and he found some athletic clothes and polos for cheap. I am a fan of this store but it is similar to a Marshalls for athletic gear and you really have to look since it is hit or miss. read more

I've tried shopping here twice and neither time was fruitful. The brands are hit and miss and I do not feel the prices are excellent. I went in last weekend to find some hiking shorts. They have a variety of brands (most I do not not recognize) and then common brands like Columbia and Burton. Most of the shorts they stock have elastic waistbands. (Um...i'm a 34" waist and do not need an elastic waist band.) Using the Amazon app 80% of the items were cheaper on Amazon than in the store. There are other stores in the area (Sportsman, REI, Patagonia outlet) that have better deals and selection. read more

I loved the store but when I went to check out I had the most unhelpful, inexperienced check out people I've ever dealt with. I wanted to use my TJ Maxx credit card but I didn't have the card on me. I had just used the card at TJ Maxx an hour earlier and they looked up my number by calling into the system. They gave me a temporary card so I planned to use it at Sierra too so I could earn the reward points. They told me they could not accept it because of security. I usually try to stop by here if I'm driving through to head back to North Dakota, and I always find something cool that has been on my list. Shopping here is like a weird mix of the REI used gear sale and a flash sale, but that's a good thing! The prices tend to be cheaper than REI for the exact same or similar item. While I don't recommend coming here if you're looking for a specific item and that item alone, it's a great store in which to browse. If you need to stretch your legs or just want something along the lines of a certain outdoor product or random home good, you've come to the right place. Be prepared for a women's clothing section that needs some serious improvement, but the other clothing sections always seem to have a great selection. Come here without being a brand snob or loyal user, and you'll most likely leave surprised and happy! With that being said, don't come here if you need a lot of advice or help choosing a product. I've only been to this location a few times, but I always find myself googling a product because the staff seems slightly clueless. Because of my last experience here (tried to shop them during the Christmas season, but they closed earlier than their posted time), I don't think of them first. However, a quick online search for something I wanted listed them along with 2 others (REI, Cabellas). No luck at REI, Cabellas, or Scheels, and Sierra Trading Post was my last stop before giving up. While not the exact item, they did have something similar; and while not the ideal color/size, I bought it anyway, about 1/3 off retail. I had purchased a ton of items online and was able to return them here without fuss or hassle. The store, itself, is a hodge-podge of everything outdoors. They do not have the collection of things online, but there is a lot and prices are cheap. They offered me the same deal that I would have received had I purchased something online even though they didn't carry the item in this store (and gave me free shipping to boot!). It took awhile to sort out my multiple returns, but so what? It was easy, the return policy is very liberal, and there is no fuss. I'd shop here regularly were I to live in town (or, at least, return here regularly, after purchasing stuff online). The people who helped me did so with a smile. Service is definitely 5-stars. Attitude is 5-stars. The only reason I don't give the entire store 5-stars is because it will completely hit or miss (mostly miss, I imagine) if one goes to the store in search of something specific. If I wanted a particular jacket in a particular size, the staff could find it for me in the warehouse or at another store, but I wouldn't hold my breath that they would have precisely what I had wanted. This is the TJ Maxx of outdoor clothing and gear. It'll never be the same place twice. Note: They are moving down the street next to Whole Foods Market in August 2011. Worst service ever! We entered the store and stopped before a very poorly groomed cashier named Ryan to return a sweater purchased last week. He abruptly said we had to go wait in line. I was unaware there was a line. I found the start of the line, that had no one in it. Ryan just stared into space. After several minutes, another young lady came to a cash register and helped us. While Ryan proceeded to do absolutely nothing. I will never shop here again. And in fact, I am going to return the remainder of the purchases I made last week, because I refuse to support a store that allows its workers to be so rude. read more

I've been visiting this store for years, but I've never bought a single item. I've come to realize that the prices really aren't that great, and the inventory is very, very limited. This is, in general, a true outlet store - full of second-quality merchandise, overstocked inventory and unsold returns. One major problem is that if you're around average size in anything, STP won't have it. Since so much of the stuff is end-of-season returns, most of the sizes in the store are XXS and/or XXL. Not so great for a typical large-sized-guy. My other complaint is that when you compare apples-to-apples - say, Gramicci pants at REI - there's very little price difference. And remember that you have to buy the colors and styles that no one else wanted. If I was really saving even 25%, I could live with the lime green shirt or the pants that are so last decade, but to actually save, maybe 10% by holding your nose? No, thanks. read more

I was floored to see Vasque hiking shoes, and North Face hiking boots selling around $50 vs the $80+ you pay for them at REI! They had my size in everythink I asked for. I actually think they had a better selection of hiking shoes/boots sandals and running shoes that REI. They even have a few pairs of cowboy boots! They also sell hunting clothes, ski clothes (not ski gear) and just random articles of clothing, including expensive Norwegian ski sweaters that usually run $250 for $150!! So if you need some new outdoorsy stuff stop bye this place before REI, you won't be disappointed! read more

If you have a lot of time to kill and are looking for some great upgrades and additions to your wardrobe, this is the place to go! You can find name brand items at over thirty percent off of the retail price, the down side is no one will wait on you and you pretty much have to dig through the inventory to find what you are looking for. I went into Sierra Trading Post last week for the first time in a while. Ross Brothers bought them a year(or so) ago. It is no longer even remotely worth my time, my gas, or even the calories spent walking across the parking lot. "Home Accessories"= cheap kitchen crap. The store, which used to have loads of quality gear, to the point the racks were crowded together, was almost devoid of cloths. What was there was comprised mostly of "WHO MADE THIS???" type stuff. Like many of the other Yelpers stated, you have to remember that it is an outlet store, so you really shouldn't expect the same level of selection and variety at your standard outdoor outfitting store with the three letters. That being said, you can find some nice deals if you enjoy hunting for bargains. I have found good quality hunting/fishing garments and gear everytime I shop at the outlet. Shoe selection is a little light, but for clothes and stuff there are some real finds if you look around. You do have to know your prices, but if you like shopping at Ross and Marshalls you will like this store-except their focus here is to support your active outdoor lifestyle. read more

I've been buying from Sierra Trading Post online here and there for a few years now, found it to have reliable deals on basic men's clothing and outdoor stuff. So I was stoked to find out one of their few retail locations was here in Reno ... ... until I checked it out a couple of times and found that the selection was smaller and the prices weren't necessarily any better than shopping online. The one big advantage is that you can physically inspect and try on clothes here. If you like Carhartt jeans and pants, they sell "irregulars" that are $10-15 below the normal retail price everywhere else, but they have some small defect ... order online and you have no idea what that defect is going to be. Could be some restitched inseam that no one would ever notice ... could be a half-inch rip in the front of the pants that has been sewed over. So you don't have to roll the dice on that here, but it seems the variety of sizes and styles is much less. My final conclusion is that it's one of those stores that isn't reliable enough in the bargains to make a separate trip for, but if you're near it for something else and have time you might as well cruise through and take a general peek. Brotip: Stop by one of the local hotels or motels that have the racks of tourist flyers (like a Motel 6), there's a coupon there for a free Hanes Beefy unisex T-shirt if you spend $25 read more

Because I am a class A bargain shopper, I tend to not bother with the store, despite its many good deals, because I know I can usually find what I'm looking for at its online store for less...especially if I wait for one of STP's many online sales. That said, if you're in Reno and in need of outdoor gear, check this place out before you head up the street to REI. I absolutely love this store. And I really don't dig shopping. They routinely have massive sales, like 30 percent off and clearly move merchandise quickly by design, rather than squeezing maximum pennies out of every sale. They have great outdoor gear and very reasonable prices and also some nice clothing from companies like Carthartt and Columbia. The store is roomy and provides a nice combination of spacial maximization along with enough room to walk in the aisles. It's also very big. If you shop at at Sierra Trading Post online or via telephone from their catalog, you can return those items here which makes it very convenient. I've done it because the shoes I bought were 2 sizes larger than standard for the size and it was a breeze. They have a nice selection of outdoor gear, fairly conventional clothing, snowboard/ski gear, cold weather gear and gear for other sports like canoeing, rock climbing, etc. I've found the cashiers can be very distracted, but once you have their attention they provide fairly prompt, good service. The selection in the store can differ greatly from online or in the catalog, but realize you can order such items and have them shipped directly to the outlet store, one of only two, and save a bit. The store also has orange tag (I think that's the right color) items in the back that are 10-20 percent of retail, but ineligible for exchanges. This is one of the places that sucks up a fair amount of my disposable income. From the comfort of my computer I can order everything from running gear to long undies, to field glasses and elk calls. Unfortunately, sometimes stuff doesn't fit and you have to return it......So, whenever I'm in Reno I try to stop by the outlet so that I can try stuff on in person. Only go if you have time to explore all the racks. I've often found great deals in the men's section. Ummm, if anyone at HQ is reading this - Girls need cool outdoor camo gear too! Part of me really wanted to give this one star, but don't want to be completely biased. We went in looking for ski apparel, and found zip. It's kinda like an outdoorsy version of Ross. Maybe it's more hit or miss, and we missed -- big time. They did have a bunch of stuff, so maybe you'll have better chances than we did. They had some fleece pjs with moose on them, sigg-like water bottles, some ski jackets, helmets, gloves, fishing stuff, so maybe we were just looking in the wrong place. This place loses a star. First, the good. Great prices. Just awesome. Yeah they have some questionable stuff, but they also have some amazing outdoor gear. Exercise stuff, camping stuff, and fantastic winter clothes and coats. My wife and I got a ton of really nice stuff for not very much money. Makes me very happy. They have an even bigger sale on tomorrow, so I highly recommend checking that out. No for the bad. Customer service is mediocre to bad. When I first came in one employee was roving around and getting in the face of other employees in a loud and obnoxious fashion. No customer needs to see that kind of nonsense. Then today they were running a 25% off sale. The coupon clearly said winter wear but two employees insisted it was "outer wear" - like coats - only. A third said all winter weather (sweaters, etc) was on sale. Ultimately we got the appropriate discount, but we had to dispute the issue with the cashier before the sale price finally applied. Most stores have systems that either automatically take the discount off or use a bar code coupon that automatically hits the correct merchandise. Here, they just had a lame flier and then we had to rely on the cashier to manually take 25% off the qualifying items. Lame. I look past that for the great deals - get on their e-mail lists and you will get some awesome stuff sent to you - but its still annoying. read more
