It's been a few years since I stopped in at what is now just called Sierra. The registers are now in front, rather than the side, but the "Grocery Outlet" vibe remains. The store is large and bright, with clearly marked aisles and a lot of merchandise offered. If I were smarter, I'd stop here before REI or Patagonia. I picked at the edges and came out with an extra ice scraper, small snow shovel, and a pair of exercise hand grips. Who knows what I'll find the next time? read more

Whenever I'm in town from the Bay Area, I love visiting Sierra Trading Post, as I am already a fan of the TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods family of brands. I really wish they would open a Sierra branch in my 'hood in Northern California! Sierra is like the "sporty" arm of the TJX family of stores. You can get camping gear, clothing/shoes for men, women and kids, home goods, toys, snacks, pet supplies, and so much more. It's like a treasure hunt every time! There's also clearly marked red tag clearance items in each department. On my recent visit on a Saturday morning, I found good name brands in clothing and shoes, such as Columbia, Eddie Bauer, Levi's, LL Bean, and Crocs. All at discounted-from-retail prices! The store was recently remodeled and everything was neat and tidy. The cashier was pleasant and the line moved at a reasonable pace. There weren't a lot of workers roaming the floors to ask questions, but then again, this isn't a typical department store, so don't expect Nordstrom service! I traditionally love this store. Manager gets a big ZERO for customer service. I purchased some dog treats that I found out shortly after purchase, were hard as a rock. My dog couldn't chew it, I took a bite and confirmed they were as hard as the felt. The manager refused to take the return saying, "it's our business model to only accept returns we can resell." I told her the product was unusable/uneditable to which she replied, "do you want me to throw that out for you?" For whoever this woman's manager is should give her a lesson in managing a brand and how to continue to drive customer loyalty because she clearly missed that lesson. read more

Went here for the first time after coming down from South Lake Tahoe. They have a store there. This store is part of the TjMax family it is geared toward outdoor wear. They also have fishing poles and kayaks and camping gear. There jackets are cheap I bought 3 while I was there and the service is great the staff was helpful and friendly. read more

Sierra Trading Post is a must-stop shop when in Reno. Sierra Trading Post has all of your outdoor rec needs at amazing prices. There was a clearance sale when I visited so we got name brand sweatpants for $10-20 each, snow pants for $22, and a Samsonite carry-on suitcase for $59. While it took a while to check out because there were only two people working the register, the customer service we recorded was great. One of the items we bought didn't have a tag, but the sales associate was patient and looked through the system to find the right code/price. Overall, I can't believe it took me so long to visit Sierra Trading Post. I truly could have spent all day in this store and will definitely be coming back! read more

This store had the worst customer service! They have an issue with staring, following, and unfriendly rude behavior, and also racism. We have a big family with 5 children, and as an Asian family, I understand that there can be racism or some staring. But as soon as my family and I entered the store, the employees started following us around. They would just follow us around, pretending to work, but clearly staring at us all the time. Even when we made eye contact, they wouldn't acknowledge us. How is that minding their own business? The least they could do is ask, "Do you need help?" or "Do you have any problems?" But they just stared at us, as if we were zoo animals. When my son went to the bathroom, a female employee rushed to the bathroom as though she thought my son was about to commit a crime. I saw the panic on her face. We may be visitors, but we come here every single time we visit. We didn't come to spend our money to be treated this way. We just wanted to buy ski socks for our daughters. What did we do to deserve this treatment? Some may say it's in our heads, but we've felt this way every visit, even back since in 2022. The employees have always been rude and treated us like potential thieves. This isn't right. It's not right to buy products and leave with a foul feeling. We didn't speak up back then because we thought it was a misunderstanding. But after several visits, we realized it wasn't a coincidence. Nobody should have to keep their thoughts to themselves when they feel something is wrong, which is why we tried to speak with the manager, Tariq H., on 02/07/2025, our last visit here. We simply wanted to express our frustration. What was worse was Tariq's response. He didn't care about our situation. As the manager, wouldn't he at least apologize on behalf of his staff and the store? He just kept nodding, saying "uh-huh" as if he was in understanding our situation. And the funny thing was that I saw him playing around with a price sticker, fidgeting his fingers with it. He wasn't paying attention, and didn't even apologize once. He was talking to the other employees through his earpiece while we were speaking. His behavior was unprofessional. I've never met a more "idiotic" manager. He avoids responsibility and doesn't do his job properly. He doesn't deserve to be in this position. He claims his wife is also Asian, but that shouldn't matter in this situation. The arrogance of this man is just over the top. He clearly thinks customers are just people who buy things from the store, with no regard for their experience. I made the mistake of thinking this issue could be resolved with a simple conversation. A manager should address customer concerns and try to find a solution, but Tariq just ignored us, thinking it would solve everything. We didn't want to fight, we love Sierra Trading Post for its quality products. We also shop online purchasing several products. But why should we leave the store feeling regretful and determined to never return? The least Tariq could've done was listen and apologize on behalf of his employees. We ended up returning the items we purchased because the whole experience left us with regret. Sierra Trading Post has great products, but the employees and the management at this Reno store are tarnishing the reputation of the brand. If I were the CEO, I would seriously reconsider the management and the staff at this location because their behavior is damaging to the company's image. The employees and the manager need better training in customer service, and Tariq, in particular, should not be in a managerial position if he cannot take responsibility for his team or treat customers with basic respect and professionalism. I hope the store takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the experience for future customers. I also hope this store finds a better manager who can properly train their staff to treat customers with care and respect. And if you're an Asian, I recommend not visiting this store location for your own good. read more

It's been great coming here and finding essentials to make the adventures easier and pleasurable. Staff has been attentive and helpful when I interact with them. Have not been here for awhile and will avoid it for at least 6 months. Very disturbing as I tried on a few things in a dressing room that was dirty and disgusting. I mentioned this to a retail associate there who was very young with long dark hair and glasses. She said she didn't get to it yet..lol, obviously. When I returned items that I wasn't buying to her, she told me to put them on the clothing rack with no thank you . I guess they should have been dropped on the floor with the other stuff left by prior shoppers. The selection has greatly deteriorated. I found one item besides food that was of course interest. The check out was unpleasant, too, with a long wait as only 2 cashiers and 7 people ahead of me No store personnel have been friendly over the last 7 years of my visits and this stays the same. We were on our way to Whole Foods and noticed Sierra Trading Post. In our three years living here we have never once stopped in. We had no idea they were associated with TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods. For those of you that know TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods, this is a store like them but with more focus on the outdoors and active lifestyles. They have everything from clothing, shoes, bathing suits, bbq tools, camping equipment, etc. We actually found swim trunks and a swimming suit which were both on clearance. We spent about 45 minutes just wandering and were impressed. We plan to come back on a regular frequency to see what else they get in. We definitely recommend!! read more

Randomly stumbled upon this store while in town and shopping at Whole Foods next store. We had never heard of Sierra so figured it was worth going in and checking out. Turns out Sierra, formerly known as Sierra Trading Post, is a discount store similar to Ross and TJ Maxx (which now owns Sierra) but for outdoor/sporting goods! They had such a big selection of jackets, shoes, athletic clothing, base layers, etc. I found so many good deals that I had to limit myself on what I actually purchased! I rarely come to Reno but will definitely have to stop by again in the future if in town! I wish we had one of these in Las Vegas! read more

Where have you been all my life Sierra Trading Post?! So my friend needed emergency yoga clothes since we decided to do an impromptu class on our trip to Reno. It was kind of late on a Saturday night but Sierra was open till 9pm which saved us. I was wondering why I had never heard of this store before. A quick study on their history tells me that their first ever store was established in the 80s right here in Nevada! They specialized in buying and selling closeout goods in the outdoors and fitness department. If this sounds like a similar business model to the Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores, you'd be right. They decided it was a great fit and were acquired by the TJX Companies. I felt like the deals here were way better than what you find at your regular Marshalls. On top of that, there was a clearance section in each of the men's/women's clothing and shoes department. I found a pair of Merrell hiking boots for $30! A Google search at the store saw them going for $75 - $140 at other retailers so I was quite happy with my find. One other thing that impressed me was their yoga mat selection. It was just one basket but they had many different brands including real yoga brands rather than just the random stuff that you can find at Marshalls. They had Manduka branded mats that were heavy duty or light for travel. They were hovering around $60 which is really good for those mats. We were there pretty close to closing time. They had announcements at 8:30pm and 8:45pm informing customers that they were closing soon. We managed to pay at about 8:55pm and the employee that was helping us was still very friendly and gracious which we really appreciated. read more

I LOVE this store. I'm always able to get most, if not all of the things I'm looking for when shopping here. They operate similarly to TJ Maxx/Ross (and are owned by the same company), so it is a little bit of a grab bag, but the stuff there has been great. I've gotten a ski jacket, hiking poles, boots, clothes... everything you need to get outfitted for a day in the mountains. Glad we have this store here in town! read more

Sometimes there seems to be more space than items. my parents have gotten me presents from their online store. Recently I was given a Sierra trading post gift card. I hear great things about this establishment from the older folks in my family but man was I disappointed in the store today. Went in looking for hiking boots of a middle range quality and all that had were the ugly boots with no cushioning inside for way too much money. I could get cheaper boots of similar quality at big 5 but I don't want those! The selection of clothing is lacking. Worse than tjmaxx and Ross stores in my opinion. Sierra Trading Post runs hot and cold with their clothes for women. Today was a pretty good day. Currently they are having a sale on their what appeared to be last season, end of season clothes. The selection is pretty good right now, but overall they seemed to have gone downhill in the organization and presentation of the clothes. The clothes brands seem to be cheaply made and inventory seems to be less than when they were next to Target. Looks like they don't have enough inventory to fill the store. Styles are kind of old looking. Perhaps they market to an older, conservative consumer. Staff are always helpful. Store is always pretty empty. Parking can be a challenge if it's busy at Whole Foods. This store "ain't what it used to be". Sierra Trading Post carried hi-end out door gear. Sierra is just a glorified Marshalls or HomeGoods (I looked it up, they are all three owned by the same company). It's a real shame. Some of my favorite clothes were purchased from STP. They did have some cool Snoopy merch, and I'm a sucker for anything Snoopy. In conclusion, I will not be driving across town to visit this store anymore, there is a Marshalls down the street from my house. read more

I used to find good deals here now they are priced like most of the other stores in town. But they do have a good shoe area they just need more shoes. The sandals left a lot to be desired and I needed a pair fast so I took the one that fit the best. I was not shopping for flip-flops but for something more comfortable and stable. I found another pair of fishermen sandals in my size so I grabbed those too. They have a huge dog department so I was quite surprised that I could not find what I was looking for. Very few harnesses. All were body harnesses and no strap harnesses. My dog gets matted hair if he spends any time in those types. So I struck out there. Huge section of beds but they were all huge in size. Lots of toys but few if any were the non-destructible style. My 16lb dog eats right threw them in a couple days so I could not buy that either. Most of the clothes were in small, medium and large, it was impossible to find XL. So another strike there. I keep wanting to shop here since years ago I found a pair of MBT sandals in my size in a bin. It was the only one they had and it was $50. At the time they were close to $300. But I have never found another deal, not even close. My biggest reason for the two stars if the cashiers. Two of them stood and talked with a lady for 20 mins even when there was a line. I spoke up and the 3rd cashier told me they could not do anything about it since the customers were talking. That's rubbish. They are there to work and keep the customers happy and keep the line moving (that's how they make money). I was #2 in line and waited 15 mins holding an armful. Fitting rooms are STILL closed! Might as well shop online. Most places have fitting rooms open now and have developed a way to make it safe. Not these guys. They have a big mirror set up in the clothing section. Presumably so you can try on clothes over top of your regular clothes. I tried that and got yelled at. One of the greatest stores in Reno. I had seen the billboards for a few years but had no idea what Sierra Trading Post was until I stopped in a few years back (at their old location), and I've been hooked since. Think REI meets Ross, but much more like REI. They've got tons of outdoor clothing, camping gear, shoes, etc at amazing prices. While it may technically be an "outlet" store, it doesn't feel like it. The only thing that sticks out as being different from other outdoors stores is that the selection is sometimes limited. They usually have a huge selection of clothing, and seasonally have lots of backpacks and camping gear or snow sports equipment and clothing. Other stuff may be limited, like luggage, hunting and fishing gear, and exercise accessories. Their customer service has always been fantastic. They will take returns for pretty much any reason (think REI-style return policy), and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They will order items online and ship to the store for free (or you can do the same yourself on the website). If you are looking for a new winter jacket, tent, backpack, sleeping bag, or shoes or clothing, this is the place. As long as you don't mind last years styles, you'll probably pay half of what you would at REI. If you're really on top of it, sign up for their emails, and you will regularly get 25-35% off coupons. Apparently, the policy is to let each person decide their own mask wearing practice. So, anti masters are welcome, here The product selection and value relative to cost is quite good. I would caution against buying something such as a watch without the standard warranty card and booklet Sadly, I recently found out the store only claims responsibility for the first few months i was told to contact Timex directly but the store did not have my receipt nor any record of purchase despite maintaining a customer record for purchases So, my watch lasted only one-year! Actually, very unheard of. If you don't mind an indifferent staff, lax mask wearing implementation and minimal coverage for items such as unboxed watches, plan to shop here.
