Mapo tofu amazing and Mala beef was so great!! They should have a line out the door. Such a sweet spot

My brother and I enjoyed the venue itself- it's cleaner than other Chinese-buffet type restaurants. I ordered the beef fried rice, my brother ordered the wanton soup. The food came out within 5 minutes of when we ordered; this made me question the freshness. The wanton soup tasted strongly of pepper, like the chef dumped in the whole can of McCormick black pepper. My rice was burned and flavorless. Two stars go to the venue and the solid menu.

5 star for takeout beef lo mein! Generous portion that I can split between two meals. Not too oily and very much the comfort food I was looking for. I was honestly iffy about trying this spot but definitely excited to come back to try more items on the menu. Not a fan of the interior ambiance as it's windowless and all dark but it's a great place for takeout!

First, don't expect bells and whistles at this no-frills South Austin restaurant. Second, don't expect Chinese food, as this is Szechuan! Szechuan food is more flavorful from due to its powerful peppercorns, dried chili peppers, and garlic. Expect tons of potent flavor and spice with every bite. If you are looking for good Sichuan food, look no further. Must try: The Mapo Tofu and the Spicy Stir Fried Chicken.

So good. The spicy jumping fish is incredible. We've been picking up here the last couple years and have only had great experiences.

By far the best Sichuan spot in south Austin. The food is so good. I never order without adding their mopu tofu.

This probably the best whole in the wall. The food taste so authentic and they have options many other places don't!

Anyone know who has the best GARLIC EGGPLANT in Austin?

sichuan river on gateway at 290 has an impressive, traditional rendition fortified with ginger. but i suspect that asian cafe on 183 at spicewood springs will have a very good one.

The place reminded me of Ling Wu in the Grove area because the decor looked similar. Maybe they are owned by the same people? Firstly, I was impressed with the fact they had a FREE parking garage nearby since this is in the downtown area and next to Whole Foods. It took me a bit to find it as I'm directionally challenged, but I did and was just running a bit late. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. I got the Singaporean noodles, a mezcal drink, and a sake. The serving size was big so I had plenty to take home. We shared many of the other dumplings and dim sum items. Everything was very good! The place wasn't too crowded so after we paid our bill we sat around for a while longer to chat and catch up. Usually someone would come by to see if we needed or wanted anything further, but no one did so we kept chatting and left. I'm happy to know of a central location with easy parking as a future place to meet people. I wish they had a happy hour because the bill for 3 of us was unexpectedly higher than usual.

There is now a waitress that you can place an order instead of the QR code system. The business have taken customer feedback and made adjustments to their business which I appreciate. Our Waitress is Amanda is Super friendly and provided great service. She was attentive and checked in with us often. Neat fact about Shanghai is they make the dumplings fresh and daily in house. No frozen dumplings and you can definitely taste the difference. This is the only dim sum place that I love and go to. They do not disappoint and for the most part is really consistent with their dim sum. The price is comparable to other dim sum places in Austin. My regular 5/5 favorites * pork shrimp sumai * shrimp eggplant- * pork puff * shrimp chive pan fried dumplings * black bean pork * chicken feet * fried shrimp ball * sesame balls Something new added to my favorite: * fried chicken dumpling - they were so kind to give us this complimentary dim sum and I am so glad they let us tried it because I usually don't order the chicken dumplings. I am surprise how good these fried chicken dumplings are. The texture of the chicken is bouncy yet juicy. And the flavor of the chicken with the veggies was really good. Do I recommend this place? Yes Best dim sum in town! Authentic. Made freshly daily. No weird fillers. Fresh dim sum. Go get itttttt!

The place was clean with lots of locals eating at this spot during the busy dinner hour. We bought 3 plates, 3 appetizers, and some broth w/noodles all for just under 80. Fed for people to satisfaction with leftovers!!! The broths were flavorful on their own and the noodles made just right. The chop Suey's, were so meaty! Almost as much meat as noodles!! Loved the scallion pancake and "beef burrito". Definitely a do over.

You order at the counter and they deliver the food table side. No frills on the service, which is why it's affordable. We ordered: pork XLB, pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings, scallion pancakes, steamed pork buns, and suan tsai spicy beef noodles. The suan tsai spicy beef noodles with pickled greens stole the show. WOW. Perfect amount of heat in a flavorful broth. The pickled greens really balanced out the heat in the perfect way. I could eat this every day and be happy. Noodles were thick and perfectly cooked. I was inhaling the soup and scallion pancakes (also incredible) and left the XLB sitting too long. By the time I got to them, the slightly thicker wrapping had absorbed all the soup. Still good flavor though! The pan fried dumplings were also good, but just overshadowed by the soup in my opinion. I didn't try the steamed buns (not typically my jam), and my husband said the bun itself was great, but the meat needed some flavor. Nothing to photograph as we ate almost everything! I'll be dreaming about the pickled soup tonight as I roll into bed.
